Designer ES2

According to this link  -  http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/articles/lcdesigneres2_whats_new.html  -  Acrobat Extended 9 owners should be able to obtain Designer ES2 as an update,  but the Customer Service of BOTH LiveCycle and Acrobat don't know how I can upgrade my Designer ES1 (v8.2) to ES2.   My Designer came with my Acrobat Extended 9 purchase.  Has any Acrobat 9 user upgraded to Designer ES2?  How?  Thank you.

Hi,
Congrats on your 25 years! That is a great  accomplishment.
Perhaps, I was a little cavalier about suggesting that you setup and use a multi-boot environment. It sounds like it is probably easier to have a Windows box nearby! And, I think Adobe should at the very least, throw-in an Win LCD license with any package that includes Acrobat Pro--it is only fair!
Big, corporations are very short-sighted in achieving their profit goals. If a manager invests too far in the future, they will surely lose their job.
Your comment:
"wouldn't it be a valid explanation for all the other Adobe products"
I believe there is a difference in maintenance of an existing product and maintaining it while developing a Mac version. Now that there will be a 0.5 upgrade every year, Adobe has its hands full adding great new features to the CS product line with each release. I would like to think that Designer is part of the CS family, albeit the stepchild, it would seem, and Adobe will continue to improve it at the same rate as other CS products. (Incidentally, releasing a new version every year is another example of being shot-sighted, in my opinion.) Adobe appears to be late in releasing Designer ES3--Acrobat Pro 10 ships with ES 2.5. I personally skipped upgrading to CS 5.5--had Designer 10 been part of it I, would have made the CS 5.5 upgrade. Heck, if Acrobat Pro10 shipped with Designer 10, I would have upgraded to Acrobat Pro 10. I'm still on the 9.0 that shipped with CS 5.0.
Anyway, my point is, Adobe has laid out an ambitious schedule and perhaps Adobe has failed to meet that schedule with regards to Designer. If that is true, I think that puts another nail in the Designer/Mac coffin.
I feel your pain and I hope I am wrong.
Stephen

  • Unable to view pdf created in Live Cycle Designer ES2-initially thought to be a user/OS issue

Unable to view pdf created in Live Cycle Designer ES2.  I initially thought this was a user / OS issue when I created a document for someone who is new to a MAC laptop.  She could not view the document through email.  Unfortunately, I began seeing the same error in my own document folders when searching for another document showing as icons instead of a list.  I can open the file without a problem although I see the error she sees only while viewing the icons in my folder.  I am using a Windows 7 PC. Now, I also know that if the document is downloaded, it can be viewed.
    Other notes:
If trying to access the form via the internet, the same error is seen through Chrome, Firefox, and Mozilla but NOT through IE
Everyone seems to have the latest or a very recent READER
The form is compatible with Reader versions 7 and up
Again, downloading from the internet to the computer appears to allow the file to open properly
Document cannot be viewed on the Galaxy Tab 2 via Chrome or the pre-installed Internet Browser, nor can it be viewed through the Reader after download to tablet. I did not try on an Apple iPad.
All parties involved are up-to-date with virus protection.
Below is a link to the exact message received when trying to open the document.

You're on to something KJ!  Yes the form was created in LiveCycle Designer ES2 which came bundled with my Adobe X Pro.  I began creating a new form yesterday and found that I could not preview the form, rendering this same "error" instead.  I ran a repair on my Adobe and at first it seemed to fix the issue but after making some changes to the form I tried to preview again and couldn't.  Here is what I get when I try to preview my forms in Designer ES2:
When I click the OK button, it then gives me that single static page as mentioned above in previous posts.
I searched Adobe yesterday trying to figure out how I could repair the LiveCycle Designer or if there was some sort of patch that I haven't gotten but was not able to find anything.

  • Redistilling an Encrypted PDF - Acrobat 9 Pro Extended & Livecycle Designer ES2

Hello There - a little help or advice please!
I have created a very comprehensive interactive form in Livecycle Designer ES2, complete with many interactive buttons (visible screen only).
This document is then completed on screen in Acrobat or Reader which all works fine.
For the end user, a copy of the completed and processed form need's to be distributed, purely as a Read Only document which allows no copying of text or images. I can apply these settings via Security Management in Acrobat which is fine, but all of the interactive buttons are still visible on screen and for some reason the email submit button is still active.
The perfect solution would be to use Adobe PDF printer as it also reduces the file size (which works fine with No security settings) however I am aware that encrypted files cannot be redistilled which is what I really need. Unfortunately I cannot have end users having the ability to copy the images or text within the read only document.
I've seen on the Livecycle ES2 forum that it would be possible to lock all the fields by adding script and hence make the fillable form non fillable, but it is removing the buttons and stopping the ability to copy text / images I am slightly more interested in. Any advice would be gratefully received especially if there may be a workaround.
    Thankyou!

I can't open the Form Tools though is what I'm saying. When I open the document in Acrobat 9 Pro I have no form tools.
I have to go to [Forms] -> [Edit Forms in Designer] in order to open the form tools.
Only when I select to open in designer I do not get the Acrobat Pro Designer, it automatically opens the document in LiveCycle and I have no option or ability to change the document designer to Acrobat Pro.
Is there some way I can "Force" the docement to open in Acrobat 9 Pro designer JUST so I can add the print button?

  • Font Issue in Form created in LiveCycle Designer ES2

I have a PDF form that was created originally from Word's Acrobat conversion tool. Now I need to add functionality thru LiveCycle ES2 and have imported the form into LiveCycle.
There is a set of text running down the side which indicates it is Times New Roman (In LiveCycle). I have made the changes but have not touched this text at all.  The form is saved as a Static PDF.
When opened in Full Acrobat or Reader, the text running down the side is no longer in Times New Roman, but Myriad Pro.  I don't understand why LiveCycle is changing the font on text that I did
    not edit at all.
My Livecycle Form Properties are set to Embed Fonts.
Trying to understand what is going on with this font and any help would be appreciated as I've racked my brain all afternoon on this trying different things.
(As part of my troubleshooting process, I reviewed the original Acrobat form and in Acrobat that same text indicates the original font used for that text was Times New Roman PSMT and if you wanted to edit it, Acrobat would substitute Times New Roman. Not sure if this helps but thought I'd mention this....)
4/18/14 UPDATE - ISSUE FIXED FOR NOW
My original process above was to import the PDF into LiveCycle to Dynamic XML. The text would appear as Times New Roman but after adding functionality and saving, Livecycle continued to convert the text from Times New Roman to Myriad Pro. Embedding fonts and checking substitution list did not resolve.
After spending the day trying to get LiveCycle to save the PDF and keep the problem text in Times New Roman, I finally reimported the original Acrobat PDF form into Livecycle all over again but this time as a Fixed Page Layout, where the document gets imported as artwork and cannot be edited. I then added functionality in Livecycle and resaved.

Does anyone have any tips on how to resolve this?  My LiveCycle form is a dynamic form.  It seems like livecycle Designer ES2 has corrupted it or designer ES2 has a bug that makes reader and acrobat print engine not recognize the pages.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • List of new features, changes, and improvements from Designer ES2 to ES3 and then ES3 to ES4

I have been scouring the Adobe website and even contacted customer service for a list of all the changes made from Livecycle Designer ES2 to ES3 and then ES3 to ES4 with no luck.  It seems like something basic that would be available.  I am currently using ES2 and need to know if anything was changed or added to ES3 and then ES4 to see if it is worth the cost of upgrading.  I do not use any of the other components of Livecycle and pretty much all the information on the Adobe website always goes back to those programs or how Designer works with those programs and it does not apply to me.
It is frustrating because it seems like Designer is an neglected stepchild of the ES Suite.

  • Livecycle Designer ES2 Windows -- Disable purple field borders?

    Hi all --
I'm new to the majority of the Adobe Suite, but not to many similar programs. I'm making a complex form in Livecycle Designer ES2 and many of the fields are close together in a grid-like fashion. The problem is the light purple border that shows up on a field when you click on it. It obstructs fields around it. I have to constantly click away from a selected field to clear my selection if I want to click a nearby field.
Is there a way to turn off this border?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you, Niall!

  • LiveCycle Designer ES2 global variable manipulation trouble

I'm using LiveCycle Designer ES2.  I've created a global form variable and would like to increment and decrement it based on the state of many checkboxes across many subforms.  Ultimately, a script on a button will query the value of this variable and decide whether to display one or more objects.  I can't seem to get the variable to update (increment/decrement) and was hoping someone could give me some pointers on getting this done properly.  Thanks in advance for your help.
    Chuck

How are you setting the variable? You could be able to set the variable by doing the following:
    variableName.value = "value";
Note that all variables are strings. So to do arithmetic, you must cast the variable to a number then cast back to a string prior to assignment.
    //increment variableName by one
    variableName.value = (parseInt(variableName.value) + 1) + "";
Also note that variables do not retain their state when a form is saved in Acrobat / Reader, so it cannot be relied on for forms that can be saved and revisited.

  • Validating Yes/No Check boxes in Livecycle designer ES2

    Hi everyone,
I need to validate 5 questions that have yes and no check boxes for "insured" "Spouse" and "Dependents" in one section of my form in LCD ES2 .  I am looking for a javascript code that can check if for each ("insured" "Spouse" and "Dependents")  5 questions has at least a yes or no checked under each and if not an error message is produced.  Thanks for any help you can provided.

  • Floating Fields with Designer ES2

I just did an upgrade to Designer ES2.
I created a new form with static textfields and floating textfields
then i created a button that filles the floating field with a text using javascript.
    xfa.resolveNode("form1.#subform[0].Textfield1").rawValue
    = "it doen't work";
    But it doesn't work
When i make the floating field visible, so i see the normally hidden field, the i see that the script works, but that te tekst doesn't show in my static textfield
    Anyone else with this problem?
Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?
In the previous Designer ES it worked fine and opening those forms in ES2 still work
But creating a new form with a floating text doesn't work

I reinstalled Both Designer 8.x and ES2 several times, but i have the same problem with both versions.
Now i only have Designer 8.x installed on my WinXP.
i created a new empty form and add a static text field and a button.
within that static textfield i insert a floating field.
i add a Formcalc script to the click function of the button: Field.rawValue = "hello"
i save it as a dynamic form.
preview the form and when i click the button nothing happens
Then i change the presence of the floating field to visible, so a normally hidden field is visible
Now without changing anything i preview the document en click on the button
Now i see the text in the field i just made visible, but still not in the static textfield where i inserted that floating field.

  • Using Captivate 5.5 user variable in Designer ES2

Can I use Captivate 5.5 user or system variables in LiveCycle Designer ES2 to fill form data?

Yes, I'm sure it is frustrating, and it is not good news if CP5 has some of the same issues. Two suggestions if you haven't already done so: put a request in to widget author for a AS3 version, especially since CP5 doesn't support AS2. Also, place a bug report on this site, and see if an Adobe engineer responds (occasionally they do).
    Best of luck.

  • If I use adobe reader 7.0 to open LiveCycle Designer ES2, what will happen?

    Hi,
I am planning to recommend adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 as a forms designer software to a corporate client. But it seems that the client is still using the old version of adobe reader 7.0.
So I need to know that is it essential to use adobe reader 9.0 for designer ES2, and if by adobe reader 7.0, what problem would be happen?
It is very helpful If there is some detailed information about it.
    Thanks
    En Shoku

    Hi,
When you design a form in LC Designer ES2 you can set the target version of Acrobat/Reader in the File > Form Properties > Defaults tab.
While you can target v7, you need to be aware that some of the functionality in LC Designer ES2 is not supported in Reader v7. For example in LC Designer you can set the presence of an object to 'visible (screen only)', but this is not supported in Reader v7, so would cause a problem. So for each form you would need to set the target version and then check the Warnings palette to see if there are any problems.
Check out the post by John Brinkman discussing Acrobat X, as this has a very handy table for the LC Designer/XFA Specification and Acrobat/Reader versions: Acrobat X and XFA 3.3
    XFA Version
    Acrobat/Reader
    2.1
    6.02
    2.2
    7.0
    2.3
    7.0.1, 7.02
    2.4
    7.0.5, 7.0.7
    2.5
    8.0
    2.6
    8.1, 8.1.1
    2.8
    9.0
    3.0
    9.1, 9.2, 9.3
    3.3
    10.0
You can see there are alot of changes around v7 and that if the user has Reader v7.0.7, then you can utilise the features in XFA Specification 2.4.
The other issue to be aware of is that users with Reader will NOT be able to save data in the form UNLESS the form has been Reader Enabled before the form is deployed.
The form can be Reader Enabled in two ways:
Using Acrobat Standard v9 or Acrobat Professional v7 or v8. Has licence restrictions, see EULA.
Using a server produce called Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2. Additional costs.
Here is a summary of the options available to users with Reader, depending on whether the form is Reader Enabled AND how it was enabled:
There is a post here and a PDF summary:

    Hope that helps,

  • Update to LC Designer ES2 (ADEP)???

Read an article (source below) by Niall O'Donovan re: a new version and features in LC Designer ES2. Anyone know about this??? Is this update included in Acrobat Pro v10, part of the LiveCycle Enterprise Suite only, or not yet released?
    Source: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/articles/top-10-adep-designer-features.html
    Thanks

Thanks. I was just curious as Naill's blog stated that it had been released. I had also run across an upgrade disk of some sorts  in the Adobe store for $29.99, but the link has since been removed. It stated that it was an upgrade from Acrobat v10 and listed ADEP - Designer 10.
Nevertheless, very exciting. Can't wait for the update to be released.
    Thanks.
