Designer - RON, rev. 9.0.4.6: Version History Viewer: Query Inclusions

Good day,
Recently I started using Designer's above mentioned version. Gradually one gets to discover things that have changed, which are possibly not documented.
One very handy option that seems to fail to work is the possibility - in the Version History Viewer - to right-click on a red, blue or white bullet representing a version of an object, and then selecting either Included in Workareas, Included in Configuration and Version Properties. None of these work.
I remember in Designer 6i it worked, but not anymore, unless I am missing something. I used them very often and really miss these options. Hope somebody can give me some more information on this topic.
Kind regards,
Victor Bax
Leiden, The Netherlands

This problem is known and is being followed up. But these buttons could still be used if you invoke the version history viewer from the command line tool.
RON menu -> tools -> command line tool.
Then issue the 'vhv' command on the required object .
Once the version history viewer comes up you can click on the versions and invoke the version properties or included in configuration/ workareas information

  • Problem in Version History Viewer

We have recently upgraded DESIGNER from 9.0.2.91.9 to 10.1.2.0.2.
We have versioning turned on (was also on in 9i).
When in the 'Version History Viewer' of any element, we get no response when selecting - Version properties or Included in configuration .. or Included in Workarea ..
Does anyone else have this issue ???

    Hi Friends,
After upgrading the JDK version from 1.5 to 1.6 we're able to open up the document in both Basic & Advanced viewer of IPM.

  • Designer 6i + 9i: Java tools (Version History etc) do not work in 9i

    1.
I have installed both Designer 6i (4.2) and 9i in different homes.
6i works fine, but in the 9i installation the java tools, such as Version History Viewer etc. do not work. The java classes cannot be found.
    Any suggestions?
    2.
6i R4.2 and 9i seem to work against the same repository version, so I can use 6i for the missing parts. Will this be working still after future patches of 9i?
I need the combined 6i/9i installation because my laptop is used both for (6i) training and 9i development.

    Hi Peter,
    1) This is most probably caused by your java class path being longer than
999 characters. We are aware of this problem and it is recorded as a bug.
Simply reduce the length of your class path to less than 999 characters
and the Java tools should start OK. The offending Registry variable you
    are looking for is:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0\REPADM61\DEFAULT_JVM_PARAMS_THIN_JDBC
    JVM_CLASSPATH_DEFAULT_THIN_JDBC
There is an also one or two issues with the JDBC thin drivers used and
the 'increased sensitivity' of the 9i database tnsnames.ora file content
and structure. The Release Notes for Designer 6i Release 4.3/9i Designer
9.0.2.1.0 should more details on this and available workarounds.
I suggest you look at these and implement the tnsnames.ora workaround at
least, in order to protect against future connection problems. By the way
    - 8.1.7 works fine with respect to these connection issues.
    2) Please see this post from this forum for more details =>

  • Workflow Versions in Version History

Does anyone know how to not show workflow updates in the version history. I only want history to show actual user edits not what a workflow changes.

    You need to use
    SPListItem.UpdateOverwriteVersion()
in the workflow if it is being created in Visual Studio. However, please note that there is no way of doing this from SharePoint Designer.

  • PS2010 - Project Center aspx version history

I just had a client edit their Project Center page and delete the Project Center web part.  Easy enough to restore, but I noticed that the Version and Permissions buttons in the ribbon are grayed out, even when I'm logged in as the farm admin.
    a) how can I enable version history on PWA site pages (since they are not in a browsable document library)?
    b) what site level permission is needed to enable these two ribbon buttons?
Greg W Appelt SharePoint Designer Project Server Noob

    Greg,
My short non-technical answer would be, that the project center page, while built on SharePoint, is not part of the publishing infrastructure (SharePoint). Thereby, you will not be able to activate those two buttons.

  • Version history and last modified did not show admin's modification?

We just experienced an issue with a site page being (unintentionally) modified by an IT admin, and the page being messed up. My question is, somehow the the messed up page's "Modified" and "Modified By"
in SharePoint does NOT show the name nor time the said IT-admin modified the page. Also no versioning of page is saved from this modification by the IT-admin.
I only found this out when I opened the site in SharePoint
Designer, which then shows the last modification time and person was the IT-admin (instead of me!).
How did that happen? Is there actually an option in Sharepoint to NOT log certain user/admin modification to a page or item?

    Thanks Alex.
Looking into the mess more, the unintentional changes were all within webparts and webpart-zones. From what I found, webparts are not saved in SharePoint versioning so that might explain the lack of version history and update to "modified" fields of the
page, even after the IT-admin's modification. Is it possible the IT-admin messed up the webpart(s) from somewhere else without actually modifying the page directly?

  • Version History, item won't restore

I am trying to restore a master page that isn't currently running as the master page in SharePoint 2010.  I made a change and it got corrupted somehow and the system crashed.  I then went to Site Settings and changed the masterpage to an older
master.  Now I can move around the site again, but when I go to Version history of the original masterpage and try to go back to the previous version, it doesn't work.
I click on Version History (after checking it out). Then I click on the date and I get the drop down for
View, Restore, or Delete.  I hit Restore and it clicks, blinks away, then comes back as if I hadn't changed anything.  The current file is still selected as the current published major version.
I also tried View and then tried to restore from that window without success.

    Hi,
From your description, I know when you restore master page it seems nothing happen.
I wonder if you check in your master page after you make some changes at the first time.
To produce your issue, I made some changes in master page(such as add code “<script>alert(1);</script>” in the <head></head> section). If I checked in the master page. When I refreshed the page, windows shown message “1”. Then I followed
the steps in your case, everything was OK, I could restore master page even though major version was still current published major version. But if I did not check in the master page, your issue occured.
Also, you can test your issue via using SharePoint Designer. You can check the master page changed or not in SharePoint Designer after restoring master page.

  • Unable to access version history of master page

    Hi,
I think i totally messed up the master pages, i'm not sure what i did, but i edited seattle.html master page and published it. Now i try to access the site, i get error : "Sorry something went wrong....blah..blah "
Now when i tried to restore the version history, it throws an error shown below. Please help me to resolve this. I think i just did it in production server.. a big blunder i guess.
    Many thanks !

    Hi Alex,
    Thanks for your response.
In anxiety i was trying many different things and i found a strange thing. The first screenshot below shows how i tried it earlier. I right click (after checking out the file of course) on the seattle.html and then when i select version history, it doesn't
    work.
But in the second screenshot if rather than right clicking, i just click on the file name and then from the next screen, at the right side there is a Version History table listing all the versions. So when i select a version, the Restore button activates
on the Ribbon and now i can restore from here without any issue.
And there is another approach, we can restore through design manager. But if your entire master page is screwed up totally, then you won't be able to go to your _layouts/15/DesignMasterPages.aspx in the first place.
So i would suggest people to try the second method (from designer pane).
    Shot 1:
    Shot 2:
But in any case, i truly acknowledge your advice and it was a close shave for me :) It was very risky. I'm going ahead with your advice and in fact need some more advice.
I'm going to do the below steps and need your advice on this:
    1. I will make a copy of seattle.html and i guess it will create .master for itself.
    2. Now i right click on the seattle.html and reset to site definition. So i guess it will like what it was by default.
    3. Now I associate the copy i made with my site.
    Thanks again !
    Kind Regards,

    HI
