Designing with web fonts | Learn Dreamweaver CS6 | Adobe TV

Web fonts have become an important part of many web designers' workflows. Dreamweaver CS6 adds support for web fonts through the new Web Fonts Manager. See how to use the Web Fonts Manager to add, manage, and apply web fonts throughout your sites.

I've been wondering for ages why DW doesn't just show my web fonts in Design View, and now I'm none the wiser. Why doesn't Design View look at your fonts (not your system fonts, your folder fonts) and display them?
With Font Squirrel you don't even need to / or shouldn't even need to go through that rather bizarre "global" Web Fonts dialog. DW should just look at your fonts folder and work out it needs to display the fonts.
I'd give this first generation attempt 1/10.

    warlock7,
    I tested this out in Dreamweaver CS6, but in all cases the drag-and-drop was functioning properly.
    If you create a new document using one of the included layouts (e.g. 3-column liquid) and insert an image in it, are you able to drag it around?

  • Using Fluid Grid layouts | Learn Dreamweaver CS6 | Adobe TV

    Designing for multiple screens can be a difficult and time-consuming task. The new Fluid Grid feature in Dreamweaver CS6 gives designers a visual way to control page layout for multiple screen sizes. It also automatically integrates cross-browser consistency through the use of HTML5 boilerplate and the respond.js library.
    http://adobe.ly/IUFngo

    Although the whole fluid grid layout feature suffers from a terrible implementation, this video explains what is needed to understand, and warns very well for all the strange culprits in this feature.
    It takes time for most designers to get used to the idea of fluidity in a visual representation of information, and let structural building blocks flow according to alternating views and rules. Let's hope Adobe Edge Reflow helps us doing that in a better, faster way.

  • Cropping Images with Opacity Masks | Learn Illustrator CS6 | Adobe TV

    In this video you will learn a versatile method for cropping images in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and CS5. Using opacity masks allows you to retain the area of the image you cropped out, modify the clipping path later, and use complex blending modes, transparencies, and knockout groups.

    Firstly great tutorial.
    Anyway I initially started a thread in the forums which lead me here regarding the use of opacity masks, I'm having real problems finding a solution to my specific problem.
    I've got 2 issues I'm trying to solve, the first is how do I show just a portion an object above another even though it sits in a layer behind.
    The second is I have an object with a linear gradient applied and I want to add yet another gradient just to a certain part of that object in order to make it fade out in a certain way.
    I've spent hours pouring through the help topics but nothing seems to fit my exact problem, sorry for asking questions here but I'm really stumped and I think an opacity mask would do the trick, I'm just not sure how to execute it.
    Thanks heaps.

    Is there a way to make a clipping mask for a many-layered image without collapsing all the layers? I'd love to keep my image as is (it's quite complex), I just want to crop the entire thing.

    How do I get that toolbar that's used at 4:57 to grab a jQuery button?  Can't for the life of me figure out where it is.  I know how to insert the object from Insert > jQuery Mobile, but the toolbar'd be cool for a jQuery-based workspace.

    This video, added 6/18/13, shows how to use Adobe Browser Lab. I went looking for this in my Dreamweaver CC installation, and couldn't find it. After an hour+ of trying to find it in Manage Extensions and other trouble-shooting, I found in Adobe's Dreamweaver forum (a post from March 2013: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5156183#5156183) that the product has been killed by Adobe. I realize things are changing fast, but it would be nice if you would review these videos before posting to see if all of the information is still current.

  • Using the CSS Transitions panel | Learn Dreamweaver CS6 | Adobe TV

    In this movie, learn about the CSS Transitions panel, which makes it easy to add impressive CSS-driven transitions to any element on the page through a single dialog. All CSS syntax is handled automatically, including vendor prefixes for all major browsers. If you prefer to hand-code your CSS syntax, the CSS Transitions panel now gives you an easy way to manage and edit transitions, regardless of where they're added.

    Painful. WAY WAY WAY too much extranious detail, wastes a lot of time explaining the obvious. this could be 1/2 the length and far better by just going thru the details that REALLY matter, not the million options explanations side trips that confuse the basic info / workflow being presented.

  • Fonts in Dreamweaver CS6

    Hi! I'm having problems with using the Myriad Pro font in Dreamweaver CS6. Although the font is in the list of fonts, the selection becomes green in css and when previewing it in a browser, it transforms into the second choise, which is Arial. Is Myrad Pro not possible to use, or is it something I have to do in order for it to work? Since I can select the font in Dreamweaver, it's a bit strange if it doesn't work?

    If the computer you use to view the site does not have the font installed, it will go to the next font in the list until it finds one it has.
    In order to use a font that is not on a viewer's computer, you will need to use the @font-face rule in your css and link to uploaded font files (minimum of two to cover all browsers)...

  • Can we design professional PHP websites in Dreamweaver CS6 ?

    Can we design professional PHP websites in Dreamweaver CS6 ?

    Dreamweaver is not a professional PHP IDE (integrated development environment). As such, it lacks PHP debugging capabilities and other features that a nice IDE has.
    But you can code PHP in Dreamweaver, and it does have pretty good PHP syntax checking. So yes, you can create a PHP website using Dreamweaver.
    A lot depends on what exactly you mean by "professional PHP website" and what your programming skill level is. The fact that you are asking this question tells me that your coding skills must not be great, because if they were, you would not need to ask this question. Dreamweaver is a much "friendlier" environment than a PHP IDE. You might find a PHP IDE like ZEND Studio to be overwhelming, in which case Dreamweaver would be your better choice.

  • Adding Edge Web Fonts to DreamWeaver

    I added this question to the forum about 24 hours ago and I haven't had any response yet. If anyone could possibly help me in the next few hours I would be so grateful because I have allocated this week to learning the basics of DreamWeaver and so far I have spent 10.5 hours trying to change the font of a single word!
    I am following the Getting Started tutorials which link from CS4 although they are actually written for CS6. On the third tutorial I am trying to follow item number 4 and pasting an edge web fonts family into the sample site. No matter where I try to paste it (and believe me, I have pasted it in a LOT of different places) either nothing changes at all on the browser view, or all the text on the page changes to comic sans. It is supposed to be just the title word, 'Check', changing to Sarina. Could anyone possibly post a screen shot showing exactly where I should be pasting this code?
    Many thanks
    Joanne

    Joanne, firstly, Dreamweaver will probably never show the font.
    I am not familiar with the tutorial you are following, but the way to insert a particular typeface into a website is usually done the same way Google tells you to on their webfonts page.
    To embed a font into your web page, insert a link to the font as the first element in the <head> of your HTML document.
    For example, if you are using Google's Stalinist font, you would put the following in the <head> section of your web page (before the <body> and before you link to your style sheet:
    <link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Stalinist+One' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
    Next you would add the font into your style sheet in CSS:
    font-family: 'Stalinist One', cursive;
    So, if you wanted to use Stalinist for your <h1> elements, you would do the following to define these header tags:
    h1 {
    font-size: 3em;
    font-family: 'Stalinist One', cursive;
    Now, in your HTML page, in the body, anything you gave the h1 tag to would show up as Stalinist—but only in a web browser with access to the Google page and not in Dreamweaver.

  • Problem with Web-Fonts displayed on Windows PCs?

    Hi,
    I am creating my first site with Muse, and am having problems getting the web-fonts to display correctly on Windows computers. This happens with both Chrome and IE, however you can see the rendering is much worse in IE. On my Mac (that I'm creating this on, the fonts all display perfectly).
    This consistently happens across all web-fonts, currently it is using 'Comfortaa'. There are some design inconsistencies on the website still - it's a work in progress! The temporary Business Catalyst site is http://levante2.businesscatalyst.com.
    Shots from the Windows PC:
    Chrome on Windows (hard to see the imperfections given the only thing I have to save a jpg is MSPaint on this PC and the compression looks poor anyway) - effectively the problem is that lines are jagged rather than smooth:
    IE8:
    Strangely, I did some playing around with this over the weekend, and now there is one set of headers (on the 'Food' page), though I'm not entirely sure why this is ok and the rest are not?
    IE8, Dark green on light green header is correct:
    Any help would be massively appreciated! I'm tearing my hair out.

    I think what you're seeing is simply the normal (if unfortunate) variation in font rendering in different browsers and on different operating systems and OS versions. There's a multi-post blog on the Typekit site that describes all the variations caused by different rendering systems across browsers and OS'es <http://blog.typekit.com/2010/10/21/type-rendering-web-browsers/>.
    Short of converting the text to images (which has many disadvantages versus live text), I'm not aware of any way to avoid these variations.
