Designjet 500ps+HPGL2

I have a designjet 500ps that apple says is supported in 10.6.  I have done all system updates and I am unable to find the printer driver in the list of printers.  any help would be appreciated.

I could connect through our Windows network to my HP 500ps when I was using 10.6. After installing Lion, I can no longer print, I just get error messages. I've no idea what's going on with the network. I can print to a different HP large format printer and to our laser. I can see the server icons, but I cannot connect to the server files anymore. Anybody got a clue?

  • Windows 7 64 Bit Driver for Designjet 500ps PCL3GUI

    I have just upgraded my PC to windows 7 64 bit. We use a Designjet 500ps plotter - wothout the HPGL2 card, so the driver needs to run on PCL3GUI.
    The HP site doesnt have any drivers apart from the HPGL2 for 64 bit.
    Does anyone know a workaround i can use for this?
    Thanks
    andy

    The drivers for XP x64 were posted in the Designjet forum in a few places.  I cannot find the link where I got the version I am currently using, it is a later version than the one in the link above and has some better features for scaling prints.  I will attach it here, you can download it and unzip it to a directory.  Next go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, pick the proper port and then select Have Disk and point to the directory where you unzipped the driver.  The file includes a number of Designjet models including the four versions of the 650C (A and B versions in 24" and 36").

    Set up for HP Designjet 500ps using Mac os x 10.4.11 Does any one know where to upload
    Leopard os x 10.5 The printer will not print until I have the updated software. Ebay sell the
    disc on their auction site, but only on disc not a download which is more convenient & faster
    to get in a hurry.The software installed in the mac is working the way it should & showing up
    as it would but it seems as though there is a driver that's needed. The results in any articals
    that I have read suggest you don't need any drivers if you use HP EasyPhotoSoftware installed.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here, not "Apple Inc."
    You might have better a response to your questions by posting them in the OS X 10.4 Tiger forums: https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.4_tiger
    or in the PowerMac forums:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/desktop_computers/power_macof
    This forum is for OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Since that version won't run on your PowerMac, you're not likely to get many helpful responses here.
    In any case, I'll try to offer some basic troubleshooting suggestions:
    The PS designation on your printer denotes the PostScript printer language. Is your applications software and current printer driver configured to send PostScript (or HP-GL or HP-PCL or ???)
    Does ANY application print anything (even gibberish) to the printer?
    HP still shows a DesignJet 500 series raster driver for OS X 10.4 Tiger available to download here:

    Does the printer time-out with every program, or just one? Have you tried another cable?
    OS X 10.5 Leopard is no longer sold by Apple. It was never sold as a download, sold only on CD/DVD disc. Discs might still be available for purchase on eBay.
    OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" is the oldest version of OS X still sold by Apple, and it too is available ONLY on CD/DVD for $20, but it will not run on your PowerMac, because Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor: os x snow leopard requirements
    HP DesignJet 500 basic printer documentation is available as a pdf document and downloadable file here: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/manualsResults?sp4ts.oid=2 5301&ac.admitted=1391720518005.876444892.199480143
    How is the printer connected to the computer? Are you using a USB interface, a Centronics 'Parallel' interface, or a JetDirect network interface?
    It appears that the network timeout default for the printer was 30 minutes, but it can apparently be set in the range of anything 30-seconds and longer. The manual notes that some software does not send an 'end of job' postscript marker, so that is the reason for the time-out setting.

  • HP DesignJet 500ps 42" Plotter keeps printing in repeat strips

    Hi all,
    I have been trying to send photos to print on my DesignJet 500, it prints PDF's and larger drawings no problem but when I try a photo on canvas roll or ordinary paper, it prints the first 50mm or so and then does the same strip over and over again to the end of the page.
    I have installed a HP GL(2) card and RAM up to 160mb but this has not cured it.
    Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

  • Printing to Designjet 500ps after Maverick Upgrade

    Just done upgrade to Maverick and I am now getting printing problems.
    Before upgrade the margins on printer were 17mm top and bottom of printed item with 5mm left and right. After upgrade margins are 35mm top, 22mm left and right and 37mm bottom. Print is approx 92% of orginal. Tried printing from Indesign, Photoshop and Acrobat all the same.
    Print from older Mac with 10.4 same file margins as the should be (100%).
    Done printer software reinstall on Imac - no difference. Seems that Maverick has messed up the printing preferences.
    Can maverick software upgrade be reversed? Wish I never installed it.

    what i get is Click reopen to open the application again. this report will be sent to Apple automatically.

  • HP DesignJet 500 and OS 10.4.6

    A few weeks ago, I upgraded from Mac OS 10.3 to OS 10.4.6 on an iMac G4. Ever since my upgrade, I have not been able to print custom sizes to my HP DesignJet 500+HPGL2. (FWIW, the printer is connectd with a USB cable, and the size I’m trying to print is 42” wide by 120” long.)
    I downloaded and installed the latest driver for OS X/DesignJet 500 from the HP site, but still nothing. At best, the printer just spits out the paper and cuts it off without making a single mark on it. At worst, the printer just ignores me.
    When I try to run the configuration utility (opening the print queue and clicking on “Utility”), the system prompts me to select a printer. BUT, the only option it gives me is the other printer connected to my Mac (a DeskJet 1220C).
    I’ve tried RIP programs (which did nothing) and selecting “Rasterize Print Output” (which spit out a full 120” of paper without a single mark). I’ve tried printing to Preview to avoid wasting paper, and it shows that the paper is completely blank.
    I can’t be the only person out there with this problem. Can anybody offer any suggestions? And if I can’t find an answer, does anybody know if it’s possible to downgrade from 10.4.6 back to 10.3?
    Thanks,
    Ben
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   DesignJet 500 + HPGL2

    I posted this message last week and figured I'd come back and post what I found over the weekend. I eventually ended up downgrading from 10.4.6 to 10.3.2 again... and losing about 2 weeks of e-mail in the process (even though I double-checked the location of the messages before downgrading). Unfortunately, the downgrade didn't fix the problem.
    By happy accident, I changed the size of my test doc from 42-in x 120-in to 18-in x 24-in. (Actually, I got tired of wasting 10 feet of blank paper every time I screwed up and printed with the wrong settings.) Eureka! It printed fine. It seems that even though the DesignJet 500 is supposed to print docs up to 150 inches long, there is an artificial limit of 109 inches on a Macintosh. It turns out that we've only used the printer for 9-foot jobs (108 inches) so far, but I didn't realize that because I'm not the primary user of this machine.
    Anyway, I've seen several discussion threads about problems between Tiger and the DesignJet 500/800, so I figured I'd post my findings here. Maybe this will save some other poor schmuck from spending a weekend in the office while his friends are at a pool party. At least I'm off the hook now. :o)

    I have a HP designjet 500ps plus, at present when printing large posters it tells me it's short on memory and has lost data.Will I need to buy extra memory.

    Try rendering the print job on your pc. Or... HP Designjet 500 Series Printers - Type of Memory Used to Upgrade ISSUE: My Designjet 500 series printer came with 16 Megabytes (MB). Can I add additional memory? How much? SOLUTION: The HP Designjet 500 series printers ship with 16 MB DRAM. You can upgrade by adding an HP-GL/2 accessory card. The card has an additional 16 MB DRAM. In addition, there is one free SODIMM slot on the HP-GL/2 card. You can purchase either a 64 MB DRAM SODIMM or a 128 MB DRAM SODIMM to install in the card. NOTE: The HP-GL/2 accessory card is a pre-requisite to a memory upgrade. A basic 500 platform is PCL3GUI, which will never run out of memory, therefore has no memory upgrade slot was added to the printer. The memory upgrade slot is included on the HP-GL/2 card, which can benefit from additional memory. AccessoryPart numberHP-GL/2 accessory card C7772A64 MB SODIMM C2387A128 MB SODIMM C2388A

  • BT Home Hub 5 not recognising print server

    Decided to approach the forum as I have run out of ideas for fixing this problem.
    I originally had a BT Home Hub 3 which worked fine with my HP Designjet 500ps plus using using a wireless HP Jetdirect EW2400 print server. I then upgraded to BT Infinity using a BT Home Hub 5 that's when my problems started.
    The hub does not recognise the print server in wireless mode so the following is what I tried to no avail:
    1. The printer setup was updated for the new hub online (192.168.1.75) for new SSID.
    2. Reset hub.
    3. Print server confirmed transmitting.
    BT Home Hub Manager
    4. Re-configured for Ch 11 and 12, preferred Designjet channel.
    5. Changed 2.4ghz & 5ghz to different SSID names.
    6. Unsync 2.4ghz & 5ghz.
    7. Disabled 5ghz.
    8. Tried Port Forwarding to allow access.
    9. AVG Anti-Virus elminated from possible problem.
    10. Ping confirmed 192.168.1.75 inaccessable.
    The good point, I can plot using network cable but trailing it through the house to the large plotter is not desireable!
    There must be someone else out there with the same plotter and problem so if someone could help it would much
    appreciated.

    Hi Alienr,
    Welcome and thanks for posting. Sorry you're having problems. Have you had a a look at How to set up a wireless connection?

  • Cannot change from default printer in Acrobat X by code

    pp.printerName = "\\\\print server\\printer"; works flawlessly in Acrobat 9 Standard but will not change from default printer in Acrobat X Standard unless run in the console. I've checked the printer names through the console and they are listed correctly. Javascript enable menu items is checked. I've even tried creating trusted functions (which still work flawlessly in Acrobat 9, but not in Acrobat X). All other printer settings in Acrobat X change as coded once the printer is changed manually.
    Any suggestions?

    function printFullPEng() {
    var pp = this.getPrintParams();
    var pSize = this.getPageBox("Crop");
    if (pSize[1] > "792") {pp.printerName = "\\\\print-server\\HP Designjet 4000 HPGL2/RTL (Copy 1)";}
    else {pp.printerName = "\\\\print-server\\TOSHIBA 4520C PCL6 - Engineering";};
    pp.NumCopies = 1;
    pp.pageHandling = pp.constants.handling.none;
    fv = pp.constants.flagValues;
    pp.flags = (fv.setPageSize);
    this.print(pp);
    This is tied to a menu button. As I say, it works flawlessly in Acrobat 9, but will not change printers in Acrobat X.

  • Cannot change from System Default Printer

    Using Windows XP (still, I know) and Adobe Reader XI, I am unable to switch from the default printer to another printer in Adobe Reader. I am able to do this in all other applications except Reader.
    I can change the default printer in Windows, open Reader and print to another printer, but the print dialog box doesn't allow me to change the default printer.
    I can select another printer from the drop down box. Then, I'm unable to open the printer settings dialog. If I click print, it sends the job to the default printer instead of the one I've chosen.
    The issue persists for multiple users on this pc even after creating new user profiles in Windows. I have about 10 printers installed on this machine and this happens with all of them. Different makes and models (Brother & Konica Minolta mostly) and also the default Microsoft XPS printer all do the same thing.
    TD;LR: I can only print to the Windows default printer.

    function printFullPEng() {
    var pp = this.getPrintParams();
    var pSize = this.getPageBox("Crop");
    if (pSize[1] > "792") {pp.printerName = "\\\\print-server\\HP Designjet 4000 HPGL2/RTL (Copy 1)";}
    else {pp.printerName = "\\\\print-server\\TOSHIBA 4520C PCL6 - Engineering";};
    pp.NumCopies = 1;
    pp.pageHandling = pp.constants.handling.none;
    fv = pp.constants.flagValues;
    pp.flags = (fv.setPageSize);
    this.print(pp);
    This is tied to a menu button. As I say, it works flawlessly in Acrobat 9, but will not change printers in Acrobat X.

  • Imovie missing after recovery

    I recently upgraded to maverick and it caused problems with printing to my Designjet 500ps so did a recovery back to OSX 10.8 but now there is no iMovies? How do get Imovie back?

    Thanks for your reply. I have found the solution but I think that it's a little bit strange to say the least. I'm starting to have my doubts about apple. When I try to install the optional updates I have all of the ilife applications apart from IMovie. So I used a program called Pacifist and to my surprise (maybe surprise isn't the correct word, this kind of thing seems to occur more and more with Apple!) I located the Imovie install package, which I then extracted and copied to my Applications folder. Now everything is fine!
