Designjet that will not print rich black

I'm using hp premium satin photo roll 24x100. My poster is of a nebula and dark space with stars. When I print on 8.5x11 it looks wonderful. Very rich black. When I print the large version the dark areas of space looks milky. The black space clearly is not being printed correctly. The poster looks good, but when compared to the letter size (hp glossy photo paper) it's depressing to think how awesome it could look. Is it the satin paper? I don't think so. I managed to print rich black on it from a png.
There are so many dialogue boxes and options to define where the color conversion is performed. I tried every setting and used all my color ink trying to learn this printers protocols. I'm a student @ RMCAD studying graphic desing focusing on print. I'm trying to make money on the side with this printer to help pay for school. I've tried color sync both on and off, no printer conversion w/ acrobat pdf conversion when saving both on and off. I've tried rgb default conversion, and hp premium photo satin paper on the drop down menu. I use the maximum detail option. All this to no avail, I can tell when printing the poster within 3" whether or not it's rich black or not. Regardless of all the settings I've tried the results are always the same. So, I started darkening the image in photoshop with curves saved and still no luck. It looked worse.
Why is it printing so perfectly on the glossy letter size and so disappointing when the poster size is printed?

I just replaced both black cartridges (photo and XL) now printer will not print in black. Even my test page will not print the black. I cleaned the print heads also still nothing.

Hp 3522 will not print in black

hp 3522 will not print in black - has all new cartridges - replaced black for dim printing and now none at all - retried original cartridge - all hp original cart's. Tried every hp online help's - none worked - out of warrentry as on mar this year.

Thanks - the replacement printer is being shipped -- this is a known problem for HP - and they have extended the warrantee for this product due to the black print head problem..

Officejet Pro L7590 will not print in black

I have an All in One Officejet Pro L7590. When I first got the printer 3 months ago, everything was printing perfectly. Now, out of nowhere, it will not print in black. It only prints in color. I have done all the aligning, printhead cleaning, changing cartridges, etc. I am at a loss as to what to do. Has anyone had this problem with this model? Can anyone help? Thank you.

Thank you so much for responding. After (3) HP printers all having the same difficulty and support not knowing what the problem was, (also many hours with Support) I determined it was the printheads also. The printheads don't seem to last very long and can be more costly than the printer itself if you have to keep replacing them. I changed over to a laser jet. No printheads needed. And I have not had any problems so far. Just need to replace the ink cartridges when they run out. I have the HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni.

Please read this post then provide some details. What printer model? What operating system? Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?

If you've already tried the usual troubleshooting like checking ink levels, running a Printhead Clean etc....

...then one thing worth a shot (if the printer is out of warranty) is to soak the printhead as described HERE
1) Get a pan and put 1/2" of very hot (not boiling) water in the bottom.
2) Next remove all the ink cartridges, then remove the printhead assembly.
3) Gently put the printhead nozzles down in the water and let it soak for five minutes.
4) Remove the printhead and gently dry the electrical contacts.
5) Put the printhead back in the printer and then reinstall the ink cartridges.

I've tried all the solutions listed on this forum, but it's not working, the printer will not print black ink at all.
I replaced all cartriges today and afterwards, it will only print in color, how can I fix this issue?

HP 3520 will not print in black

I replaced the HP black ink cartridge with a new one and now it will not print black at all on my HP3520 Deskjet.
The color cartridges are printing okay.
I followed suggestions from your web site and did multiple cleanings of the printhead. The air vents are clear on top also.
I believe the printer is out of warranty. I see a lot of other people have the same problem with the black ink.
Any suggestions?

I just want to make sure that you've covered all of the steps within this Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages document.
If you have and the problem persists it would be time for you to call in to HP Tech Support and inquire about a product replacement, regardless of your warranty status.

HP Printer will not print in black

I have a MacBook Air. A couple days ago, my HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless completely stopped printing black ink. The print cartridge is full, and we even took it out, put it back in, ran the diagnostic tests, cleaned, etc. The printer DOES print text in color. Frustrated, we eventually switched the printer with another, my HP 3520. This printer has always worked fine with my MacBook Air. After we connected this one, we found that IT WILL NOT PRINT BLACK EITHER! Only color! So frustrating. What the heck is going on?!

I see that you are experiencing a issue with the black cartridge has stopped printing. I would like to help.
Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.
Printing a Network Configuration Page.
If the hardware self test prints, then delete and add the printer driver back in again.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer on the left column and click on the - sign to delete that driver.
Then click on the + sign, highlight the printer, make sure below where it says Use, it is selected on your printer name.
Then click on the Add button. (you might have to click the drop down beside Use to select the printer from the list)
Try printing again.
If the hardware self test didn't print in black, please try the following steps in these documents to resolve this issue.
Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages.
This document provides steps for manually cleaning the contacts.

Are you using Genuine HP Cartridges?
Check the date on the cartridges to make sure they are still in warranty. (not old stock)

Is it possible to make an object/colour that will not print but still be visible on screen once saved as a PDF?

I want to show stuff in a PDF that will automatically not 'print' from Illustrator.
For example create a colour to make shapes and text that you can read from the saved PDF but will not print once the PDF is printed out

from illustrator you could put stuff on a template layer (check 'Template' in layer options), but then it would only be visible on the illustrator side; opened in Acrobat the layer would be invisible.
you could do it from Acrobat Pro though. have 'Create Acrobat layers from top-level layers' checked in the PDF save options, then open in Acrobat and look in the layer properties (this is from Acrobat Pro 9):

My HP Deskjet 3520 will not print in black after replacing cartridge

I have just replaced all my ink cartridges in my HP DESKJET 3520 printer (it's wireless). It prints in color fine, but not in black. I've tried cleaning the print head, aligning the cartridges, checking the breather on the cartridges. I've also just opened up another black cartridge, thinking maybe my new one was defective. So now I've just wasted a cartridge.
so frustrated! My printer is more than a year old now to. So no warranty. when I click on the printer ink levels, it's recognizing I have full cartridges - but it's not printing in black at all.

My 6520 Photosmart will not print in black

I have been having problems with my printer not printing in black, I have the HP All in one photosmart 6520, I have went through the process of cleaning the printer head several times with no results, I have replaced the ink cartridges so they are full and inserted correctly, color seem to be okay. What else can I do, throw the printer in the trash and get a new one?I receive no error message and I am operating in Windows 7

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 6520, you are unable to print in black ink after replacing the cartridge.
I would like you to continue here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, I understand you may have done some of these steps already but I need you to complete all steps in order to resolve the missing black issue you are experiencing.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
If you are still unable to print in black ink, I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in as well as the product Warranty status: HP Warranty Checker

C4650 Will only print black from the internet. MS Word and PS will not print in black but has color.

Before you think I just haven't tried anything, let me run you down with the whole lot:
-HP PhotoSmart C4650
-Windows Vista
-Problem: My printer won't print in black --but-- this only goes for Microsoft applications it seems. If I have a page of text in black, when printing from MS Word, the page comes out blank, however the printer is actually "printing" back and forth. IF, however I print from my browser, from email, or a webpage, picture, google docs, etc, black prints *just fine.* So far this holds true for both MS Word and PhotoShop CS5. Issue: Black ink simply doesn't print from any program other than a browser.
-NO. The cartridge isn't empty. NO. It's not incompatible. NO. The cartridge head isn't dry and I am not going to soak it in water. This is a new cartridge. It's the official HP brand.
I've done a search and I've found that a few people seem to have this "only print from the internet" problem, however none of these was solved. The only advice that an HP support member gave to one of them is to "install XP service pack 2" however.. I am not running XP. A few other people get the opposite issue where they can only print color from the internet and not from the computer's applications.
I don't know much about printers but it sounds like some kind of driver issue. Yes. I've already searched for, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Whenever I have to print something, I now try to open it up in my firefox just so I can be able to print black. It's quite the hassle. Almost seems like some kind of ploy to cause people to buy new ink cartridges when it's not really empty.
-Yes, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the printer.
-Updated my windows (although idk how that would help. But I know it's going to be a suggestion anyway.)
Is there any known fix or should i chuck it off the balcony and go get a lexmark?
