Desk Top Folder Shown in Red. Why?

On the file list in Finder, the Desktop file folder is shown in Red. What does the red color mean. I was reorganising some floer and downloading some iTunes musoc and it happened. IThe desktop folder is in my user folder.
Thanks in advance from a guy that just migrated from PC to make and hasn't figured it all out yet.

You may have just added the colour as a highlight by mistake. Open the Finder and locate this folder in red. Either right click on or hold the Control button on the keyboard and click on the folder. There should be an option to highlight in a colour. Is yours set to red? If so then just click the little 'x' to the left of all the colours and it should remove it.

Desk Top Folder Weirdness

Well, something very weird is happing on my desktop. Whenever I make a new desktop folder, everything on my desktop appears inside it, along with what I originally put in it. For example, let's say I create a new folder on my desk top and I call it "Test Folder". Everything on my desktop shows up inside this "Test Folder" without my putting it in. It does it all by itself! It's driving me nuts! So, as a result, all my desktop folders contain the same exact thing, that is, everything on my desk top. Yikes!
Could someone explain what is happening, and how to solve this issue?

I think that you are revealing a fundamental misunderstanding of the interface. My guess is that, when you double-click a folder on the desktop, you are getting a window in column view. (Is the item "as Columns" in the View menu checked?). In column view, you have multiple columns.
Let's say you have a folder on the desktop called "Test", and you double-click it. The rightmost column in the window that opens shows the contents of the "Test" folder. The column to its left shows the contents of the folder that contains "Test" (ie, the desktop). The next column to the left shows the contents of the folder containing the desktop folder (ie, your home folder). In each column, the folder whose contents are displayed in the next column to the right should have a gray background to show that it is selected. Similarly, if you were to click a folder inside "Test", you would get another column added to the right, showing the contents of that folder.

When saving an html to my desk top it appears as IE; why?

I click file to "save as" putting it's destination as desk top. The html link shows on my desk top as an Internet Explorer link not FF. Is this normal; it still opens as a FF web page.

Sounds that IE is the default browser.
If you drag a link or favicon on the left end of the location bar onto the desktop to create an internet shortcut then that shortcut gets the icon of the default browser.
If you want a different icon (favicon) then you have to assign that icon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties).
You can usually get the favicon if you append "favicon.ico" to the main domain of a website (e.g. http://www.mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder or see if you can find it in "Tools > Page Info > Media".

Desk top folder won't open when I double-click on them

It just started happening, but now when I double-click on my desktop folders, they will not open. I end up having to right-click on them which can be very time consuming and frustrating, to say the least! I'm not sure if it is something I need to fix in settings or if it could be anything else...Help!

Step by step text box appeared on desk top

I have this box that appeared on my desktop - it is a rectangular shape but with rounded corners. It is a black screen with with text and a white frame. It types out exactly what I am doing on my computer - for example just them it typed out "computer" after having finished typing out the word. If I click on a desk top folder it reads "Finder Desktop and gives the name of the folder" - it's really annoying and I cannot figure out how to get rid of it. Please help! Thank you!

2" Vertical Black Border on my desk-top

What have I done for this 2" black border on the left side and right side of my desk-top to show up? Why did it happen and What can I do to un-do it?

Also, are you using a desktop image which is not in the right ratio for your display?
If that's not the case try resetting your pram/nvram.

Why does the sum of data in subfolders not add to the top folder?

I am trying to remove folders in my primary drive of my MacPro so as to free-up space on the primary drive. I have been using the Info button for each folder to see the total amount of data for that particular folder. When I add up the data contained in each folder they sum to a substantially lower amount of Gigabytes that is shown by the info button for the top folder. If you add the data shown in each of the top folders on the drive, the sum is considerable less than is shown for the drive in its info tab. Why is there this difference in the sum of individual folders and the drive Gigabytes shown? Is there data that is not apparent because hidden folders not shown in the Finder?

Suppose you had folder with three one-byte files in it. GetInfo reports three bytes in the folder. But each file takes a whole number of allocation blocks on the drive, probably something like 12K total.
Mac OS X also blurs exactly what is meant by a folder. For example, an Application is typically presented to you as one file, but if you look inside it, you would see that it may contain a hundred files in folders.
Some Users have reported better luck using OmniDiskSweeper (run as admin) to show how much real disk space is taken up by various items -- the GetInfo byte counts can be hard to deal with.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

When you installed Firefox, did you uncheck the option to create a short cut?
In order to pin to the toolbar, when you have Firefox open, right click on the icon in the bar and select "Pin to task bar".

Why? Because of something you are doing wrong - however unless you actually tell us what you are doing - and what version of iPhoto you have - and any other detail that might help no one can even gess.
Exactly how are you exporting? Are the photos successfully exported to the desktop? How are you moving to the CD? why do you think they are not there?

Why does my desk top photo disappear

I keep installing photos to my desk top and then it disappearson the next shutdown.

Might be corrupted desktop preferences...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menui bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following;
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.desktop.plist file to the Trash
Restart your Mac then try setting a desktop image.

How to remove a 'blank' folder on my desk top

G'day
I have have 3 'blank' i.e. empty folders on my desk top and can't remove them. The background is I bought a cheap USB hub and plugged both of my external ard drives into it and when I tried to back up I managed to create the blanks. I can't drag them into the trash and can't move them around 'cos they immediatley shift back to the same position on my desk top. Any ideas please?

what steps are you taking to try to create a new folder on your desktop? Does an error message of some sort appear?
