Desk top pics and screensavers on Macbook

Sorry but I am finding this whole forum thing incredibly difficult to make work and am absolutely technically illiterate. All the jargon leaves me only more confused. Don't even know if am posting this on right page since can't find anywhere else to go.
My question
Want to change pic on desktop but don't like alternatives offered on the desktop menu but DO like some of pics on screensaver menu. Is there any way one can move say the forest images to the desktop section and then use them as desktop image? Don't want to pay for any and feel Apple might care to provide more free pics.
Can anyone answer in very very simple step by step terms I might just understand?

Yes, then the screensaver from the System contain normal images.
1. Open the path: System > Library > Screen Savers.
2. Select one, open the ContextMenu and choose Show Package.
3. Open the folder Contents > Resources.
5. Then open the Library of the root level, open the folder Desktop Pictures and copy the images into.
6. Open the the System Preference > Desktop & Screensaver and select the new image.

Desk top mail and .Mac Mail

I am using my desk top mail and my .Mac mail, when my .Mac Mail syncs it updates my .Mac desk top G4 and my .Mac power book lap top but it does not sync my mail account. Should Mail be automatically updated when I sync the .Mac address or do I have to updated Mail independently.

Hello Mike.
A .Mac type account is really an IMAP type account and behaves in the same way.
If you are accessing your .Mac account as a .Mac type account with the Mail.app on both Macs, messages in the account's Inbox mailbox on the server are kept synchronized with the account's Inbox mailbox with the Mail.app on both Macs automatically.
With the Mail.app on both Macs, you can also store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server and after doing so, these mailboxes/messages will also be kept synchronized with the server with the Mail.app on both Macs automatically.
With the Mail.app on either Mac, if you move messages from the account's Inbox mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox which is stored locally on the hard drive, this process saves the transferred messages locally on the hard drive and removes the messages from the server at the same time. Messages removed from a server stored mailbox to a locally stored mailbox will no longer be kept synchronized with the Mail.app on another Mac since the messages are no longer located in a server stored mailbox.

Whose Apple ID are you using? It sounds like whoever co-opted the account may have changed the security questions as well.

Change desk top picture and system locks up

Newbie to Apple/Mac and I need your help Please. I was trying to change my desk top picture on my MacBook Pro 13. I went into "Systems"-Desktop/Screensaver and clicked on photos and the spinning disk starts up and locks up. The only way to stop it is forced shutdown. Try a restart and lockup again. Help Please. Quit System Preferences if it's running. In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following item to the Desktop:
Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

As far as Windows goes, I think more things have gone backwards since XP, W7 improving on Vista, but...

I totally agree on the Backup thing, but which exact 3 TB are you thinking of, many are worthless & unreliable???
And BTW, I think Time Machine is the worst backup solution ever invented, but if you have trouble using a TV Remote, it's better than a swift kick in the pants!

Desk Top Author, and ad success?

Now I know people are using flash to display ads but my
question is, how complex can the ad set up be with flash? For
example I need something set up were the system rotates through a
series of ads in a mysql database, and when no ads are available
displays for example adsense ads. Any insight into the possibility
of the above with flash would be great, as I would like to know it
is capable of what I need before picking it up.

It depends on where the ad is being served. If you are in
control of the site, you could certainly do what you are
describing. You could also do it if the ad is served elsewhere but
you may need to look into using Pointroll, Eyeblaster, Dart Motif,
etc.

SETTING C8180 PRINTER FOR DESK TOP (WIRED) AND ALSO NOTEBOOK WIRELESS

I have a C8180 already hooked to my desk top that works fine. I brought a Notebook HP dv7-3173nr that runs Windows 7 and I want to add it so that I can also print to the same printer wireless. Bottom line I will have two PC's printing to the same printer, one via the USB cable and one wireless. I am pretty new at these things so if possible make it easy for me to understand,, PLEASE. I am using a NETSYS e2000 router

Assuming both of your computers are connected to your router, your best option is to connect the printer to the router for all to use. If you do what you are suggesting, you will only be able to share the print function with your new notebook PC and it is hard to do.
Read starting on page 33 of the manual as to how to connect your printer to your router. Basically, you will connect it to your router via the front of the printer (Wireless Setup Wizard), then load the software on your PC's (from here) following instructions for a "Through the Network" installation.

Files on desk top duplicating and multiplying themselves

When I have files with documents residing on the desk top, new file folders gain all the documents from the older files, and the older files gain all documents that were in the new file. I have not chosen "Smart Files" when setting up the new file folders.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Note: Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Hi appreicate advise on how to synch my new Treo 500 with all the contacts, calaner I have in my Palm Desk Top.
I also regualry backup my z22 PDA as well.

If you are still using Palm Desktop with the Z22 and want to start using the Treo with the same Palm desktop, export the data from the Z22 username in Palm Desktop. Create a new username for the Treo. Import the data into the Treo username then sync the Treo.

Help! Flashing desk top icons and screen de-selection

While in any screen, my desk top icons will flash off for a second or 2 and then back on. At the same time, the screen I am in will be de-selected. Anyone have a cure or experience this?

Hi Wayne, and a warm welcome to the forums!
It's likely some 3rd Party APP that got broken by the recent QT or Security update.
Stuffit AVR has been a big one, if you have that use the Pref Pane to turn it off, but others have been implicated too. Check System Preferences for a Stuffit Pref Pane and disable AVR.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it is some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Also take out any USB devices or USB hubs before launching iTunes. I ran into an issue a few months back (on my Windows machine) where iTunes wouldn't open if I had this certain usb gamepad plugged in. No fun!

Why is my desk top screen suddenly blue with arrow--my image is gone?

I reset the image with system preferences as usual, and it "took", but when I restart the machine the blue screen with the very large (low res) arrow reappears as the desk top image.
Otherwise my MacBook Pro seems fine. What's happening?
