DEsk top sounds 2:07 & 3:07 AM.

Desk top sounds like it is trying to connect at 2:07 & 3:07 AM. Cannot turn off. Have turned off and disconnected every item from power source. That is I have unpluged every thing from the computer, however the computer still makes sounds for about a minute or two just enough to wake us up. Please, anyone HELP!

Is the computer OFF or ON? If the computer was OFF, how could it be making noise/sound?
If it's actually ON, Is the communications device (ie modem or ethernet 10/100) active?

Hi,
If you have no Device Manager errors and the software is configured correctly in Control Panel- Sound, then you could try reinstalling the audio drivers.
Have you tried plugging speakers into the headphone jack or tried headphones in the headphone and rear speaker jacks to eliminate a possible problem with the rear audio out jack or the speakers?
You could also run Vision Diagnostics to test for hardware failure.
You may have to replace the motherboard or purchase a discrete audio card if the integrated audio chip has failed.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Sync laptop and desk top to one iTunes account

I have been reading some of the posts for syncing multiple computers to one iTunes account. What I get out of it is at this time syncing one iTune account with multiple computers is out unless you want to use a third party software. I work from home and use the laptop most of the time but when I am home I would like to use the desk top to sync with. I am wondering will the iCloud remedy this? The music library is taken care of, it's the apps I am looking to sync.

No thanks, the next option I have is getting a docking station for the laptop and do away with the desktop. It is four plus years old so it's about time for a new one or an alternative method. External hard drive for backing everything up and using the cloud for work. Sounds like plan "B" is the way to go.

Go step by step and test.
1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
    Highlight Internal Speakers / Headphones
    Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and remove the headphone.
    If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
    in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
    Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    Try this even if you don’t see the red light.

    Do this twice

    Choose the appropriate method.
5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
    Audio Devices window
    Side Bar

Since I know nothing about your machine (model), I can only have a guess: Normally a PC has a builtin sound card. To install a new sound card you need a spare slot on your machine OR you can use USB sound card now. Which ever way, you machine should already have a sound card. It may not have builtin microphone, speaker(s) but it should have normal jacks/plugs for a microphone and headphones.
To use Skype, all you need is to use a normal headset (with microphone) and plug to the right ports (front or back) of your computer and let Skype know.

The Apple icon, usually at top left corner, appears in top right corner in a strip including all that left hand. When the computer is restarted, the screen goes back to normal. But I have to move the mouse to the far left of the screen and then up until it reappears on the far right hand side of the screen so that I can hit shut down button.
It seems to happen randomly though always on desk top and sometimes when I move mouse and computer switches on from rest mode. My large flat screen is relatively new.
The video card on this computer, which is approximately two years old, is Nvidia FeForce 9400M.
Any help would be welcome as my usual source of assistance is not available and I am not well versed in workings of the Mac although I have used one for many years.

That sounds like a Hardware problem.
You may be able to confirm that with Apple Hardware Test, or make an appointmenst for a free Genius Bar evaluation.

On Lion OS why do new icons not appear on the desk top either from drag and drop of scanning onto

There seems to be an error on Lion OS which I installed recently. If you drag files onto the desk top they disappear. However, they can be found in finder. If you scan direct to the desk top they also do not appear. Is there a bug?

Sounds to me like you have a corrupt plist file.
First thing I would try would be to simply relaunch your Finder and see if that sorts your problem.
>ForceQuit>Finder>Relaunch
If not navagate to com.apple.desktop.plist and delete.
Finder>GO>(option Key)Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
or in Finder shortcut ( ⇧⌘G) copy and paste:
~/Library/Preferences/
delete the com.apple.desktop.plist
Relaunch your Finder again.
The deleted plist will rebuild itself to default setting after Finder relaunch
Report back on your sucess or failure.

Sounds like a question for a Windows 7 support forum. I don't use Win7, but in WinXP if you right-click a desktop icon and open Properties, there is a button for '''Change Icon'''. As finitarry alluded to, you will need to come up with your own icon file of the correct size. Keep in mind that Nightly updates frequently, actually it updates '''''nightly''''', and you may find that you need to replace that icon every day. RAM drives? Do you mean hard drives? Do you mean RAM chips?
If hard drives, did you put them back in the same order? Multiple hard drives in one machine often need to be jumpered correctly when you move them about.
If chips... It's too difficult at this stage to tell if it is hardware or software. If hardware it could be chips, and that error at the end had a vague chip ring to it. One way to test for chips if you have extra chips is to pull all but the minimum required to boot and see if it boots.
You mention a backup drive. This wouldn't happen to have a clone of the operating system on it would it?

From all you've said it could be hardware or software. Blue screen could be software but failing hardware can corrupt a drive, messing up the software.
Boot discs. It sounds like you have no boot discs (CD. DVD) for this computer, right?

When saving an html to my desk top it appears as IE; why?

I click file to "save as" putting it's destination as desk top. The html link shows on my desk top as an Internet Explorer link not FF. Is this normal; it still opens as a FF web page.

Sounds that IE is the default browser.
If you drag a link or favicon on the left end of the location bar onto the desktop to create an internet shortcut then that shortcut gets the icon of the default browser.
If you want a different icon (favicon) then you have to assign that icon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties).
You can usually get the favicon if you append "favicon.ico" to the main domain of a website (e.g. http://www.mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder or see if you can find it in "Tools > Page Info > Media".
