This is a brand new deskjet 3512, after the setup and computer connection, prints the alignment page place the alignment page face down in bottom right hand corner when it scans the page it comes back with a message saying alignment failure. Have repositioned the page, reprinted the page with the same result.
any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello,  Kidnly perform the below steps to resolve the issue. While the printer is ON, remove both the ink cartridges. Unplug the power cord from back of the printer.Take each catridge one at a time, and clean the golden dots with a lint free cloth. Do not touch the area from where the ink flows out.Wait for 60 seconds.Plug in the power cord to back of the printer. If printer does not power on automatically, then hit theON button to do so.Install the ink cartridges when prompted. If issue still persists, then remove both the cartridges.Install only the Tri color cartridge and close the door. The printer would go into single cartridge mode, press OK to continue.Alignment page printed need to be scanned. Printer would recover from the "Alignment failure" state. Now Install the black cartridge.

  • Deskjet 712C: Ink cartridge got stuck in right side and won't move

I have an old DeskJet 712C that was working fine until today. Strangely, the ink cartridge got stuck in the right side of the printer and won't move. As soon as I turn on the printer, the red light starts blinking. Does anyone know any tricks to get the ink cartridge to move again? Thank you for your help.

    Hi,
It may be possible to move the carriage if you turn off the printer. Unplug the printer and open the printer lid.  See if you can move the carriage by hand.  If this is possible move the carriage to the centre.  Check to see that the is nothing blocking the movment of the carriage - e.g. some pieces of paper.
Close the lid and then plug the printer back in. Hopefully this will help.
I did find a You Tube video which shows fixing carriage jams on C4200 printers ( I know that they are not the same as the 712C) but some of the suggestions may be useful if my initial thought above do not help.  the video is at this link:

Again these tips are not specifically for your printer but they may help solve your issue.
I hope that this was helpful.

  • Deskjet F4480 ink cartridge

I made a bad mistake and purchased the wrong ink cartridge for my printer. I purchased a 901XL and it should have been a 60XL. Physically they look the same, everything. will the 901 work in my printer? Thinking I had the right one, I opened the 901 and $40 is a lot to waste. Your help is much appreciated.

    Hi there texas1papa,
    Welcome to the Forums
I saw your post about wanting information about compatible ink cartridges for your Deskjet F4480. I have found the specifications for you below. Unfortunately, the 901 cartridges are not compatible with your unit.

We only use the black cartridge.
Can anyone suggest another make of printer that is not HP?

    Hello...problem resolved...many thanks.

  • How can I get my HP DeskJet 6540 to recognize the new ink cartridges I installed?

Hi everyone. I have an HP DeskJet 6540 printer and I replaced the ink cartridges. After I replaced the cartridges, I aligned them and then did a test print. I noticed that the blank ink didn't print. I opened system preferences, and then I opened the printer utility. It says, "Device Status : Pen Failure." Current Supplies Levels says, "The current levels for the selected printer are shown below...Cartridge on the left (tri-color 97) is unknown and the the cartridge on the right (black 96) is missing." Oh, I forgot to mention that the print cartridge light on the left side is flashing. I went to the HP support website and it says that the problem could be an incorrect print cartridge, incompatible print cartridge, or problem with the (left/right) print cartridge.  The solution they offered was to remove, inspect and reseat the problem cartidge. It also said to clean the problem cartridge contacts. I did that and it still gives me the same results. I even reset the printer but still got the same results...
So the next thing I try is the OTHER cartridges listed as compatible with my printer which is 94 (black) and 95 (tri-color). I bought the new cartridges, placed them in the printer and I still got the same message from the print utility. I took the latter cartridges back and got a refund and explained that none of the compatible cartridges are working with my printer. I kept the 96 and 97 cartridges in the printer and the light on the left continues to flash so now I'm here asking if anyone knows how I can get my printer to recognize the new ink cartridges I installed?  Are there any other solutions that I have besides throwing the printer out of the window? :-)
    Thanks everyone ;-)

With all that you have done it does sound like the printer has a fault. If you haven't tried turning off the printer for several minutes, then this would be worth trying (maybe you have done this when you say reset the printer?).
If the cartridge light on the printer flashes when you turn the printer back on then it sounds like a hardware fault - not the driver or the operating system. And this is not usually something a user can resolve so it would need repair. And for the cost of a new printer, why would you bother.
If you plan of sticking with HP and getting another model that can use the 96 & 97 cartridges (let's face it, they often cost more than the new printer), then take the two existing cartridges to the store and see if they will let you check they are okay. No point throwing them out also if they still have a fair bit of ink still in them.

  • HP Deskjet 1510 Tri-color Ink Cartridge Error

I just bought a HP Deskjet 1510 back in August and I loaded the HP original ink cartridges that come with the purchase. For the first 5 print jobs it was working well, but somehow after a while my laptop and the printer itself just kept warning that there's low ink level in the cartridges (especially the tri-color one). I haven't even got to use the tri-color cartridge much as I've been printing in grayscale ever since I've used this printer.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I thought it might be a contact issue so I cleaned those parts too but it didn't change anything.
It's getting extremely frustrating as I'll have to do this for god knows how many times for every single page I print or copy. This happens to the black cartridge too but 90% of the time it's the tri-color cartridge.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Hello @ut32w , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I hope you had a great holiday!
I understand from reading your post that you are running into cartridge errors.  I'd like to help!
I would first suggest removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend running through the steps listed in the document below:

  • HP Officejet Pro X476dw ink cartridge failure

I have a new HP Officejet Pro X476dw . It gives me Ink Failure for the four cartridges when I shut it down and turn it on the next day it starts to print but after a while it gives the same message . and so on I check the cartridge when it is working , it is already full of ink .
it is the ink which come with the printer in the shop they told me it shoud print at least 2000 pages using those inks .

@ SMOKEY DOG  -  I will need a little more information in order to help out. Do you have the same printer as the one listed in the title? Are you using genuine non refilled ink cartridges is the device?  Do you have the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet to ensure that it is getting the proper amount of power? If the printer is not getting enough power, that can cause the printer to produce erroneous error messages.

    Hi Oto,
In India you should buy both the Black and Color 802 HP ink cartridges, then you should contact HP support and reset the printer for your region:
    http://www8.hp.com/in/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1
Be aware that by resetting the printer for India only the 802 ink cartridges will be accepted by the printer unless you will reset it back for another region in the future, as well be aware that this process is limited and cannot be done more than 2-3 times for the device.
