Deskjet 3520 e-all in one printer not printing black ink

I just installed a new hp 564xl black ink cartridge with an expiration date of 01/30/2017. Low and behold the black  is not printing and the printer was purchased in 08/2012. I did everything that was suggested in the support forums and to no avail did anything work. The three other colors print out fine except the black. Based upon everyone's answers I guess there is no repair for it and I should scrap this unit after three years of constant use. I would think by now there would of been a solution posted to this problem but Hp has failed us. I've been using HP printer products since I purchased my first computer in 1992 and never had a problem with them until now.  My second printer which was purchased in 2004 is still going strong, except that it is not wireless. If I need to purchase a new wireless printer, I'm sorry to say that  I might have to look at the competition. If anyone knows of a solution I would appreciate it.

The post here has links to a troubleshooting document for the Deskjet 3520.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue please contact HP Support, even if the printer is no longer under warranty.   If the above does not give satisfactory results then please post back here and mention the country you are in.

  • HP Deskjet 3520 e-All in one printer trouble with scanning network, connection and very slow print

    Dear all
I bought two days ago HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in one printer serie, but i have some really bad issues with the scanner! I have searched on the internet and i couldn’t find anything to solve the problem.
I have installed the printer according to the book of the printer, so everything did go well(i think), except that i can’t connect the scan to my computer, a Mac OS X (i am connected with the printer). I get directed to the website where i can connect the scanner, but every time i try to connect it with wi-fi, i get two notification, one from my computer (from HP Itility (Dutch) program) that the connection is off and second from the website that i have to make sure that i’m connected with internet (which i am) and to check the IP address if it is the same with my computer (which is the same).
Obesely something did go wrong, but i can’t find the problem.
Beside when its copy or prints a document (no matter how many pages) it’s very slow. It takes 10 -15 minutes till the printer starts. Has it something to do with the problem i’ve got with the scanner or is the printer always so slow? Because the very first time, when i installed the printer, it printed very fast.
By the way i also print the test-results to check if there is a problem, but according to test-results there are no problems at all.
I hope that someone recognize this problem and can help me to solve it.
    Regards,
    Esra

My HP Officejet 6500 E709a All-in-One will not print more than one copy at a time.  This is especially disconcerting at Christmas time when you're trying to get Christmas letters in the mail!  Any help?

The cyan portion of the printhead may be clogged.  I would suggest running the diagnostics shown here.  If three levels of cleaning of the printheads does not resolve the issue you may need a new printhead.

  • HP C6150 All-In-One Will Not Print Black Text But Does Partial Test Print

Hi.  Thanks in advance for any help anyone can proffer.
I've read through the forum and I think there are some similar issues, but none exactly the same as ours.
This HP C6150 does print pictures, but suddenly stopped printing black text.
HOWEVER, the test prints will print in black with the Windows Logo, but will not print any associated text.
Odd.  It just suddenly stopped printing.
    Variables:
C6150 All in One - No other problems for two years.
Using refilled ink cartridges from outside source. (not my decision)
Ink is full.  No other changes made in last three days.
    Troubleshooting Steps:
Uninstalled and then re-installed software in entirety.
Put in 'new' (refilled) cartridge for black and magenta.
Tried (not sure if successful) soft reset.
Tried cleaning the print cartridge with 'Q-Tip' and distilled water.
Have not yet spent money on new OEM print cartridges.  That is next step unless other suggestions merit.
    Possibilities:
It may be the refilled cartridges, but they've worked so well in the past.
The cartridge prior to the recent replacement was working fine and was not yet out of ink.
The print head might be damaged.  But this should/would affect all black printing and this is not the case.
Were the driver corrupt, the reinstall should have fixed it ... you'd think.
So, we're looking for some suggestions prior to going out and getting a new printer.
Thanks again, in advance, for constructive non-judgmental suggestions.
    MackNC

The likely cause is the black ink is not printing at all.  When printing graphics (like the Windows Test Page) black is made from mixing the color ink.  I would suggest printing an internal diagnostic test page as shown in this page.  Does the black block print?  If not then clean the printheads as described here.

  • HP5640 All-in-one does not print photos from Windows Live Photo Gallery

Setup printer using mobile device  Installed print driver using provided CD. Updated driver software. Printer is networked by wireless to computer & smartphone. Was able to print photo from smartphone, was able to print Word document from computer. Was unable to print photo from computer using Windows Live Photo Gallery. Used the HP troubleshooter, following all possible solutions to no avail. Selected the option of HP Photo Paper but it defaulted to the 8x11 paper tray. Can someone please help? Thank you!

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing issues when printing from Windows Live Photo Gallery on your Windows 8 computer to your HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer, as your prints continue to default to the letter size Paper Tray. I would like to assist you today with resolving this printing issue. Can I please have you follow the steps below to properly configure your print settings under the Print dialogue window in Windows Live Photo Gallery.  1. Load your Photo Paper in the Photo Tray on your printer  2. Open an image you would like to print under Windows Live Photo Gallery 3. Click on File and select Print   4. Under the Print dialogue window please ensure that your printer, Paper Size, Quality, and Paper Type are all set properly for your specific print job    5. Next, click on the Options button on the bottom right hand corner. Under the Print Settings dialogue box click Printer Properties.    6. Next, change the Paper Source to Photo Tray. If it currently is set to 'Main Tray' please click the Main Tray option and it will drop down to allow you to select Photo Tray. Click OK once the Tray change has been made.    NOTE: If the Paper Size shows an exclamation mark, it means that your Photo Tray does not support the Paper Size selected. Click the dropdown next to Paper Size and choose a size that does not show an exclamation mark.     7. Under the main Print dialogue window click Print on the bottom right   Your document should print as per normal now from the proper Paper Tray.   Please let me know if the steps provided resolve your Paper Tray photo printing issue. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Windows 7 64 bit, changed wireless modem, now c4500 all in one will not print.

I had to have my wireless modem changed and now my 2 laptops will not print. 1). windows 7 64 bit.  2) windows xp, version 2002 service pack 3. The new wireless modem is from ATT u-verse 2wire892. I tried reinstalling on the windows 7 laptop and it tells me can't be installed on that operating system. I had it there before. I ran a Wireless Network Test Report and under the network name it still has the old net name not the new one, how do I change that?

Found diagnostic utility at hp support.  Though I lost all jobs in the queue, printer is again working.  YEAH!

  • After move, all-in-one will not print or connect

My All-In-One was working fine before we moved.  Now, it says it isn't connected to the computer. I have tried connecting via ethernet and USB as well as wirelessly.  I have downloaded the HP doctor, new drivers, and I am at my wits end.  Really need the printer capability!  Copy and fax are working fine.

    Hello @momof3cs,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the communication issue you're experiencing when attempting to print from your Windows 7 computer to your HP Officejet Pro L7580 All-in-One Printer. Now, with a new location comes a new setup of your printer. If your printer was previously configured over your network you will need to reconfigure the network settings on your product to re-establish that communication. Please follow the steps below to correct this connection issue.
If you have a USB Cable attached to your printer, please disconnect that now.
If you have an Ethernet Cable attached to your printer, please disconnect that as well.
    Step 1: Restore Printer:
For troubleshooting purposes, it is important to have a nice clean slate to work with. Therefore, I am going to have you restore any network settings on your printer.
Select the Setup button on the front panel of your printer
Right arrow to Tools and select OK
Right arrow to Restore Factory Defaults and select OK
Once the Restore is complete, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Uninstall Drivers:
    Click on your Start menu
    Select All Programs
    Select the HP folder
    Select your HP Officejet
    Select Uninstall
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the uninstall.
    Step 3: Install Drivers:
If you want to use the printer over an Ethernet connection, please plug the ethernet cable in from the rear of your  printer directly into your router
Next, click here to download the drivers for your printer
Once the website opens select the Download button on the top left
If prompted, please allow the download to Run
Once the download is complete, please follow the onscreen instructions to install your network printer
Once the installation is complete, please test your machine to ensure that everything is functioning.
If you also want your printer installed with a USB Cable, please follow the steps below.
    Click on your Start menu
    Select All Programs
    Select the HP folder
    Select your HP Officejet
Select 'Connect a Device' or 'Add a Device'
Choose that you want  to install for USB
Only plug in the USB Cable when the installer prompts you to
Once this install is complete, please test printing to ensure everything is working.
If you want your network printer to be the default printer you will need to go to your Start menu, click on Devices and Printers, right click on your network Officejet and select Set as Default Printer.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Best of luck!

    Hello Mr. Wilks,
I am sorry to read about the issue you are having with your new Photosmart 6520 not picking up 4x6 paper. I understand you have cleaned the rollers and that did not resolve the problem. I have researched this and have found a couple of documents that I recommend you look at to ensure all of the print settings are correct when printing on a 4x6 or any other size you wish to print on.
I am unsure if you have a Windows or a Mac computer, therefore I will post 2 different links for you to look at depending on which operating system you have.
