Deskjet 6122 Print color is off

I have successfully used this printer for many years. I replaced the color ink cartridge 78 (vivera) with a new cartridge (same 78 vivera) because the color was off and it was toward the end of the cartridge and I thought maybe one of the colors was depleted. With the new cartridge that is not expired I am getting the same effect. The green/blue seems to be missing. However, if I clean the ink cartridges it will print correctly. A couple hours later it is back to the color being off. I did all levels of ink cartridge clean, and prime. The black (45 cartridge) is current. Does anyone have any suggestions?
There has been no changes to the setup, printer connected to single pc (windows xp). I know it's getting to be time for a new printer, but I've got $75 in genuine HP ink in this one and it would be nice to get the use out of it.

Hopefully, you get a response.  I have the same problem and have posted it.  Something changed in the night.

  • Deskjet 6122 print with only black cartridge?

I got this oldy but goody through the local Freecycle list (with two sets of full ink!) after finding out it works with Linux and that openprinting.org lists it as working perfectly. Plug and play setup with Ubuntu 14.04, recognized instantly.
I think it's indicated just by the old school type print cartridge/head, but I should be able to use this one with the black ink cartridge only right? I know newer ones will force you to have both. I like that the cartridge prices for this one are very economical too.

The Deskjet 6122 requires an electrically sound black and color cartridge to be installed in the printer to allow printing.  It is not necessary to have ink in all the colors, but both cartridges must be installed.

  • LR3 and printer color is off.

I have a  Epson CX7800 printer and when I try to print out my picture, the color is off.  My image looks great, but when I try to print, the color's are not the same.  I've gone to my printer settings and set them to no color management and set the default in LR, there is no color match.  Am I doing something wrong?

Spyder 3 pro just over $100, Eye One Display 2 now replaced by the Pro, but Display 2 is fine and can be had new for arund $100.  Both vary a bit from unit to unit, but much better than nothing.
To the OP, Lee Jay's link to the Epson leaflet might be slightly confusing for the setting for the Epson CX7800 or other non-pro Epson printers.  The printer dialouge (main tab, click advanced button) looks something like this:
You need to select the paper type and "Photo" or "Best Photo" quality in the basic settings.
The LR print dialog should like this:
Obviously, choose the appropriate profile for your printer and paper.  If profiles weren't installed when you installed the printer driver, you might need to go to the Epson site and download the profiles for your printer.

  • Lightroom printing - colors way off

I searched through this forum for a known problem, but I'm at a loss...
    My configuration :
    Lightroom 2.0
    Vista 32 bit
    Epson R1800, using glossy paper
Downloaded the most recent drivers and profiles from Epson site.
In the printer properties, I switch ICM off, choosing color mode "Epson vivid" (or even tried "Epson standard", in LR I select the profile "SPR1800 PrmGls Photo" (there seems to be no profile for glossy paper and 'Best photo'.
    Rendering intent : perceptual
    Sharpening : standard.
So when I print, the colors are way off, photo is too light overall.
But when I try to turn it down in the develop module and print, colors are still way off.
Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong / forgetting / ... ?
    Thanks,
    Phaedra

From your description of the problem it appears that you are confusing the R1800 and LR settings. In the print module on the bottom of the left panel is a button for printer setup (or some such words - I am working from memory). Click the button to set the printer. You should choose glossy as the paper type and best photo as the print option in the Epson dialog box. This is not a print profile. Also, make sure that ICM is off and no printer management is selected. That sets the printer.
Back in LR on the right panel near the bottom you should select your print profile which you apparently have installed. If it says "managed by printer" change the setting to the appropriate profile, in your case the SPR1800 PrmGls Photo profile. It should be the icc or icm profile (can't remember which) so check this also.
    This should work.

  • Print color way off when stamp applied

I've got a strange problem that occurs when printing documents with a stamp applied to them (ie: Draft).  Printing to a Ricoh 550EX printer which has its own hardware based color profile, we have to select "Let Printer Determine Colors" to get normal (un-stamped) pdf documents to print with the appropriate colors.  However even with the "Let printer determine colors" selected stamped documents print with off shaded colors.  By off shaded I mean bright yellow is printed with a green hue.
It is as if the adobe is ignoring tha switch when printing stamped documents.  Anyone have any advice on how to correct this?
Problem appears in both Adobe Acrobat 9 and X.  Printing to printers that do not have their own HW based color profiles works perfectly, so it seems adobe is not playing nice with the HW color profile.  All other apps can print to the Ricoh without issue.
    Thanks

You must be thinking about video card drivers on the Mac.  Those are indeed supplied by Apple.  But printer drivers are the responsibility of each individual user.

  • Deskjet 6122 Printer Assistant Software

The Printer Assistant Software that came with the Deskjet does not work with Windows Vista.  It previously enabled me to view how much ink was in my cartridges.  Any suggestions on how to tell the ink level?

Hi - This isn't an ideal solution since it doesn't show you how much ink is remaining, but it will identify a cartridge that is low on ink.

  • Unable to install printer Deskjet 6122 on windows 7 (64bit)

I bought a new HP Pavilion Model HPE h8-1237c running Windows 7 Professional (64bit). I’m not having any luck at trying to install my old HP Deskjet 6122 printer. Drivers on disk and newer downloaded ones are not compatible with the 64 bit OS. HP suggests installing drivers for Deskjet 990c as alternative. That didn't work either. This new computer only has USB ports and not the old parallel one like my old Pentium 4 Windows XP computer. The printer does have a USB hookup, but windows doesn't install the printer as plug and play since there are no drivers available. I've tried installing it running Windows Virtual PC in XP Mode. The printer install software runs fine in the virtual mode until it gets to the "print test page." At that point the install fails to find any printer at which time it completely reverses the install.  Pffft ! !
Help please!      I've been going crazy for two days to solve this problem. I haven't even begun to attempt installing my trusty old HP Scanjet 5530 flatbed scanner. I suspect it will be a similar nightmare as is this current printer dilemma.
Am I destine to have to buy new hardware that’s compatible with windows 7 (64bit)?

The Deskjet 6122 driver should work fine on Windows 7 using the DEskjet 990c driver, but many folks (myself included) have been having problems getting the Deskjet 990 driver to download from Windows Update.
You have probably already done the steps here, but if not start with that. If the HP Deskjet 990 does not show up after clicking on Windows Update as shown in step 8 and you get a message that "Windows Update was unable to find a list of devices, try again later" then see the solution here.  If the problem still exists then you can download the driver from the Microsoft Update Catalog site, but this is not very easy to use.  If you need to use the catalog site post back here and I will write up some directions.

  • Deskjet D4260 incorrect color (black prints as blue) - Vista

I installed an HP Deskjet D4260 on my dell inspiron 531 with Vista Home. After updating to vista service pack 2 the color on all print jobs is off. (reds/greens/white seem to be correct, but black is being printed as blue)
I've replaced the black cartridge. Also, as per other discussions I found online, is was recommended to uninstall, so I've also uninstalled and reinstalled all printer software and drivers, yet the problem persists.

First thing to find out is if this issue is caused by hardware of software. To do this please print a testpage by Pressing and holding the Power button, press the Photo button and release both. Add this picture to the post by clicking the insert/edit picture button so that i can have a look.

  • Photoshop printing colors off when compared to HP printing software

Hello. my printer is an HP photosmart 6510- cq761a-b211a.  my os is both windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and Mac OS 10.8.4.
I have scanned .tifs of artwork i am trying to make prints of, i have tried on both computers, and here is the issue i am running into:
Whenever i use the HP software to print by right clicking and selecting print, the colors come out pretty close to where i want them, however, the hp software does not allow many options for centering or sizing prints. If i try to print a 4x6 on 8 1/2 x 11, it does not allow it to be centered or adjusted and it just prints it at the edge.
on the other hand, if i print through photoshop CS4 on the pc or CS6 on the mac, i can select the paper and size and choose all the options of exactly how i want it to print, and it prints correctly, however, the colors are off. they do not look accurate, ex. the reds look like generic red vs the depth of all the reds the hp software catches correctly.
i would love it if i could just use the hp software to print, if it just had more control over the images. it seems to print spot on. but it looks like ill have to use another program, i have tried going through all the photoshop settings and made sure they all match the printer, i have it set that the printer manages the colors and printing, the colormetric options, rgb,  and paper all match. i cannot figure out why there is such a huge difference when photoshop is open. ive printed about 35 test images and it isnt working right.
    any help is appreciated, thanks

You have to have a calibrated monitor and the image must look right to you on that monitor. Then you let Photoshop manage colors and select your printer profile just below that setting, also you must use Print Settings>Print Settings over to the left to make sure you match the paper type.
You will need to go to G Ballard's site to read up on color management and workflow, bec ause your question indicates you don't understand the concepts.

  • Print Problems / Colors are off - mixing colors / grainy/ banding

Printer is set up with ICC profile and uses RGB mode.  Printed colors are extremely off - tons of white spots / lines / smudge marks in the ink & the colors seems to be mixing.  High res images are printing out extremely pixelated.
    Using Ricoh sg3110DN printer; subli-jet R inks
If anyone knows what causes any of the following issues, please help.  Any input is much appreciated.

The colors being off, in the picture it looks like too much red, sounds like a misconfiguration of the printer and PS regarding color profiles.
I don’t have your printer, or one even remotely similar, so cannot comment on what to click on or what things are called in your printer driver, but typically what you do is, only have PS, or sometimes the printer, handling the color management.  If neither is or both are doing color-management then things will be off, because either neither is correcting the colors or both are, when only one should be.
What you should try, first, is to turn off color management in the printer driver, somehow, using the Print Settings button at the top of PS's Print panel, then configure PS-Print to Color Handling to say Photoshop Manages Colors and specify the proper ICC profile into the Printer Profile area .  This is probably the ICC you mention in your first sentence, or whatever ICC matches your printer model and specific paper and ink set you’re using.
Another possibility is that your monitor is not profiled and calibrated properly so the printer is showing the real colors and you’ve adjusted your images wrong.   I think this is much less likely to be the issue in your photograph.
As for the other spots, lines, marks, I have no idea.  Unless your image has noise or your camera sensor is very dirty, this are unlikely to be coming from PS, and may be some printer misconfiguration that is using the wrong amount of ink, or a printer hardware failure.

  • Experts? Colors completely off when printing images edited in LR-Help, Please!

I have one week left to get ready for a show that I have already dumped 3,000 worth of supplies into, but now that I'm ready to print, and I've imported and edited everything in my new trial of Light Room, my prints are completely off from my images. Even the photos that I originally started in Photoshop and then adjusted in LR are next to impossible to adjust to correction range.
I've been lurking here and on other forums for the past few days trying to solve my problem, but to no avail. I see similar problems, especially with MACs, but I finally brought a pc in and hooked it up to my Epson 4000, and it still makes no difference. I've tried to adjust my settings correctly, but my color profiles must be off.
Sure hope someone out there can help. My most recent expediture was all new ink cartridges, thinking this was the problem. Another 500.00 and over 100 bad prints later I'm begging for mercy.
    Thanks so much.

Here is a Histogram of you image. Do you really want it to print this dark? Or is it just the colors that are off? Of course I have no idea how you want it to look.
I would suggest download a know good test image and see how it looks on you screen and also how it prints. That will give you the best idea of where you are going wrong.
