Deskjet 6940 causing a blue screen and rebooting PC on bootup

I have a strange problem with a clients PC.  Whenever it boots up, if the Deskjet 6940 is connected via a usb cable it blue screens and reboots.  The PC was recently updated to Service Pack 3, at first I thought the amount of memory was too low (248 mb, with 8 shared with video).  So I upgraded the memory to 1 Gb but it still happens, if the printer is not plugged in it goes into Windows and works fine.  if I then plug the printer in it reboots immediately.
I've tried different USB sockets, I've tried uninstalling the drivers and all the HP software, rebooting and downloading the latest drivers from HP.  This seemed to cure it for a few hours, but later that same day the client called me again to say it had rebooted again.
I have spoken to HP support in the UK and was told that HP have issues with Service Pack 3 of XP.  I found this hard to believe and also embarrassing - this is a new IT support contract and I recommended that all the PC's were upgraded to SP3.

I would suggest you upgrade teh drivers for your motherboard and also update the BIOS of your motherboard too and see if that resolves the issue.

  • IPhone 5c 16gb Blue screen and rebooting

My iphone 5c, running on 7.1.2 has recently (after 4months of having it) started showing the blue screen of death and then rebooting. There is no pattern as to when this happens - completely random! I also went to it once and it had turned off on it's own and took a while to turn back on when I attempted to! Any ideas how to fix this? Thank you.

    Hello Sarahlp92
For random issues wit shut downs, check out the first article and the quote section below. One thing to keep in mind is to back up as you may need to restore your iPhone.

Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • IPhone 6 plus blue screen and reboot

when I'm using a certain app my iPhone 6 plus crashes a blue screen appears and then reboots. Is anyone else experiencing this?

My iPhone 6+ 128GB has been working perfectly for 4 weeks until I loaded 20K photos on it this morning which pushed the usage to over 60GB. Then I had the first terrible crash in the evening while playing a song via my car audio and it entered an indefinite reboot loop.  Finally I managed to shut it down.  After turning it back on, i took out 20K photos, sync it, so the usage falls below 50GB; now it works perfectly.  I did not have to fall back to factory setting.  The backup on my Macbook works perfectly.  Both apps and data on the phone are intact.  So I guess as long as you don't cross the 60GB boundary, it works.
It seems related to flash memory as many suspected.  So I don't think getting a new one at this time with the same flash memory architecture would solve this.  I guess we will need to wait for the recall!!!

  • T400 Random Blue Screen and reboot

    Hey Everyone!
Back in October I upgraded my T400 with a Crucial M500 (240GB SATA SSD) and 8GB RAM. I successfully installed Windows 7 as well.
Its been about two months running strong (I think), but sometimes I'll be working on the computer and it will just restart (it happens while I'm away or sleeping too) and greet me with "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" with details of the problem.
I'm attaching a screenshot of the problem details...please help me!
Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!!!

You run them manually? Sometimes I have the impression automatic updates can screw things. I would try to do a restore from a previous point of time to see if any update was the culprit.
Otherwise you can start checking the components. Use MemTest to check your RAM, CrystalDiskInfo or HDTune or similar to check the SSD and post here the results (if error appears)

  • Has anyone else experienced blue screens and continuous reboots on 5S

I picked up my silver 5S 32 GB at the Verizon store Friday morning.  Throughout the morning I noticed that I would hit the home button and it would be powered down.  I loaded the .1 patch assuming maybe it was a glitch.  I went through the rest of the day with a couple more home button/powered down situations.  When I got I home, I plugged it in to iTunes to recover a backup and following the restore it went into blue screen reboot cycle.  I performed the soft reset and restored the backup 3 times with the same results.  The soft reset was the only means to stop the reboot cycle.  I then tried 3 times doing a restore from the cloud with the exact same results.  Finally I did a from scratch install thinking my backups were bad.  It would stay up awhile but then eventually go into the blue screen and reboot.  Sometimes the cycle wouldn't occur in that it would boot up to Home screen following the blue screen.  I took the phone to the Apple store the next day, they looked it over, witnessed the blue screen and confirmed there was an issue.  I then went to the Verizon store and swapped it for a Space Grey 32GB.  I experienced the exact same cycle with the grey so I called Apple.  I have spent 3+ hours working through this with a very helpful agent.  Turns out a have 2 bad ones in a row!  The way I can almost instantly get it to go to blue screen is clicking the Photos icon.  Now I am waiting on a second replacement at the Apple store.  We have done the soft reset, the hard reset, and the phone restore so we know now that the backup had nothing to do with it as I can do a restore and still have it blue screen after clicking Photos.  Anyone seeing anything like this?

Searching for others who might have the same problem increases your chance of finding a solution.  Common sense in troubleshooting devices dictates you look for others who might have the same problem in hopes someone already has a solution.  Your comment is irrelevant and leads one to think you are spoiling for an argument.  Why???

  • Lightroom 4.1 (3, 4 or any version) causes computer to blue screen and crash

Recently bought the new Lightroom 4.1 in an attempt to fix this issue, which had been occuring off and on for some time.  I have major difficulties with importing and/or rendering previews or editing Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 5D Mark III images using Lightroom.  The computer abruptly blue screens, then reboots.  The blue screen code is 124.  I'll attach a record of minidumps (all caused by editing or importing images using LR4.)
Not sure if that can be viewed, but please ask so I can send you the dump file for inspection if necessary.  It essentially shows the Bug Check Code as 0x00000124, caused by address ntoskrnl.exe+4b09bc.

I have an 850W PSU.  Running Windows 7 Ultimate on a 150GB SSD.
I find this very frustrating because it's a PC that I built and that can do any complex task--anything from using PS CS4 with multiple layers, playing top-end games like Crysis 2 and Diablo 3 with graphics on full.  Other than this RAW development issue, the computer is flawless and VERY fast.  Anyone have any ideas, or see a hole in the system specs?
    Cheers,
    _E

The video driver is up to date, and I would assume compliant with LR4.
My BIOS version is default, and I tried installing new BIOS updates but ran into troubles.  The Asus motherboard uses ATI Catalyst to introduce new system updates, but it fries my PC (assuredly a conflict with my nVidia card) making the rig run even slower.  In fact, using the ATI Catalyst disc (the one that came with my mobo) crashed once I had tried to install any motherboard utilities!  I've gone through the BIOS configuration and turned off all of this mobo's overclocking features and set everything to default.
No overclocking going on whatsoever--not once, and never will.
Reseated the memory and tested the memory with no negative feedback.
The PSU is relatively new and of high quality.  I replaced an old PSU because of exactly what you mentioned above.  It's a Corsair GS800 (not 850W, 800W).
I'm at the point right now where I suspect the motherboard is failing me somehow.  I only bought it because I was in a rush and would have normally opted fro a "non-overclocking-enthusiast's" board.  Perhaps there's a way of updating BIOS without utilizing the disc (the ATI Catalyst, more to the point?)
The PC is new in a sense.  I seem to recall a point where LR3 worked with fewer crashes.  I built the thing April 2011.  Just reinstalled Windows 7 and all the software again.

    Hello jared1915
If you are stuck in that loop, the next step would be to restore your iPhone. Check out the article below to get your iPhone into recovery-mode and restore it in iTunes.

my  iphone 5s has been showing a blue screen and shuttiing down. yesterday night it did just that and now will not reboot or even restore through itunes.
    what should i do?

Your iPhone is in recoverty mode at the moment so to possibly get it back up and running you would need to do a restore as you have been trying. Follow the steps in the article below for the specific error messages you have been receiving. If after following all steps the issue remains book an appointment at a local Apple Retail Store to have the iPhone evaluated.

  • MacBook Pro hanging with blue screen and spinner after installing Software Update

Hi I was wondering if someone could help me with this current issue. Just a few hours ago I finished reinstalling Mac OS X Snow Leopard in my MacBook Pro. I performed a clean installation as part of a yearly spring cleaning that I do on all my systems to keep them optimized. So there was I downloading some software updates which included the combo update of OSX 10.6.8 and others. The updates finished downloading and the system logged out to install the updates, when the updates finished installing my MacBook proceeded by logging out into a blue screen and show a gray spinner similar to the one seen when you start your Mac. Here's the problem after 2 hours the system is showing the spinner and the blue screen, I think that my computer has just hanged in the reboot process.
I was wondering what should I do? Do a force restart? Or leave it overnight?
Also, where can I find any information on what error is causing this issue?
I appreciate your responses and help.
By the way, I installed Mac OS X from a USB stick that has the original image of the disk installer that came bundled with my computer.

    Kappy wrote:
Force a shutdown. Do not restart yet, but first do the following:
    Repair the Hard Drive
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Next, boot into Safe Mode then restart normally.
    Hi Kappy,
Checked the hard drive after forcing a shutdown and booting from my Snow Leopard Installer USB Key and the status of the HDD says "Verified". I ran the repair and the volume was repaired successfully. Clicked on "Verify Disk" and it says "Macintosh HD appears to be OK". So I ran a second repair and again no errors were reported.
As suggested I booted back again in Safe Mode and restarted normally. All software appears to have been installed successfully. But I don't understand why my computer hanged and showed the spinner after installing the updates in the blue screen that appears just before rebooting. I am aware that the system shows that spinner after a OS update but the longest it lasts is 30 seconds at the most in my previous cases.

  • FX5200 causes XP blue screen

    Hi,
Bought a MSI FX5200-TD128 card for my Compaq Evo D500 Desktop. The card was detected without issue. But after Windows login, XP abruptly terminates into a blue screen, indicating Page Fault Error caused by NTaccess.sys. Then, the PC after saving the coredump info, reboots itself.
Now I am running my PC in Safe Mode with Networking, and the display is standard VGA. I have downloaded the latest drivers for FX5200, but the problem still exists.
The Compaq BIOS information did not have many settings to play with. I tried setting the AGP aperture size to 256MB, but that did not help.
Hope someone can help me on this.
    Rgds.

Thanks for the help. Driver Cleaner works. I think MSI live update may have caused the blue screen because at one point, after I removed the nVidia drivers and rebooted the machine, the blue screen still happened. So I uninstalled the MSI Utilities in Safe Mode and proceeded with installing the drivers from scratch.

  • My iPhone would just randomly give me a blue screen and then restart--did that a bunch of times between Tuesday and last night. As of last night, it WILL NOT come back on. iTunes says it's in recovery mode....what does all of this mean???

Tuesday night I was texting a friend and when I went to open her message, my screen went blue and restarted. I just wrote it off as weird and went on about my business. Later that night, I tried to turn on my phone and it would not turn on. I plugged it up, held down the power button, and pressed the home button all numerous times. I looked online and it said to do a "hard reset" by holding down the power and home button at the same time--my phone then came on. Throughout Wednesday, it would give me a blue screen and restart--nothing major just really annoying. I took it to the local Verizon store where I bought the phone from and he said that it was some type of hardware defect and I was still under my year warranty so I could get a new one for free--the free phone won't be here until tomorrow, Saturday. I took it home and it didn't give me any trouble for a couple of hours. The next day it was cooperating and then I left town for a little while and it acted up (blue screen and then restarting) a few times. When I got home, it acted up again and so I restarted the phone and it was working fine. A few minutes later, I tried to check my messages and the phone was off again. No matter what I do, my phone will not come back to life. It had at least 45% battery last time I looked at it. I decided to plug the phone up to my computer and see what it did--my computer recognizes that there is a phone hooked to it and it says that it's in "recovery mode". It also said that if I'm having issues with my phone, that I need to reset the phone via iTunes. I guess the questions that arise are
    1. Why is my phone doing this?
    2. If I reset my phone, will it go back to working again? I ask that because I don't want Verizon to charge me $300 when they send me the replacement phone and I won't need it (assuming that the phone decides to work once it's been reset).
    3. What type of hardware defect is this that is causing this issue, not only with my iPhone 5S but others as well?
    4. Shouldn't people be notifying Apple and letting them know that they need to fix this issue?
    5. Should I report this issue to Apple even though I didn't buy the phone directly from them, but through Verizon?
Any help that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated! This whole situation has me stressed out and seriously confused.

  • My MacBook Pro is now asking for a login. When I enter my passcode, it goes to a blue screen and back to the login screen. I saw several older posts, but nothing recently. I am running Snow Leopard.

My MacBook is now asking for a password. When I login, it loops to a blue screen, and back to the login. Incorrect logins create a shaking of the login screen. I tried restarting with the shift key depressed, with no luck.

I performed a hard shutdown, and upon start I could access my system without logging on. I'm not sure what caused the issue, but I have not booted up in almost a week.

  • Extremely Slow Startup, Blue Screen, and Poor Performance

    Hello,
A couple of weeks ago my MBP 15" (late 2009 model) started performing really poorly. The colour wheel would spin for about 2 minutes if a launched any applications and everything was really slow. It also took about 10 minutes on the grey apple screen to startup and then another 10 or so on the blue screen before slowly revealiing my desktop.
I took it into the genius bar and the said it might be a corrupt file on the HD. Backed up my HD, zeroed the drive and reinstalled OS. Still the same problems. Ran disk utility several times and got various errors pertaining to HD or RAM.
Took it back into the Genius bar and they ran a long diagnostic on it, came back to me and said it is deifinatly the RAM. I replaced the ram, (2x2GB ddr3-1066 sodimm) and cleared PRam. Still the same startup and performance issues.
Any ideas would be appreciated as this is stressing me out big time as I dont know what else it could be?

Hmm... before this I think I would have restarted the computer in Safe Boot mode which deletes the dynamic-loader shared cache.
Not sure if it is relevant at this point
    Safe Boot
    # it forces a directory check of the startup volume.
    # It loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions).
    # In Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, Safe Mode runs only Apple-installed startup items (such items may be installed either in /Library/StartupItems or in /System/Library/StartupItems; these are different than user-selected account login items).
    # It disables all fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
    # It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
    # It disables all startup items and login items (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
    # Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later: A Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache at (/var/db/dyld/). A cache with issues may cause a blue screen on startup, particularly after a Software Update. Restarting normally recreates this cache.

Did you run the Apple Hardware Test. What is the S.M.A.R.T. status, could be that HD is failing?
