Deskjet 9800 doesn't recognize new color cartridge

When my Deskjet 9800 printer reported that the color cartrridge was out of ink and I replaced it several months ago, I put in a replacement cartridge (#97) from a new package that I had in reserve.  The printer failed to recognize it, continuing to report that there was a problem (left print cartridge light blinks, power light on).   I figured the replacement might have been faulty, and tried another new cartridge.  Same result.  I put one of these cartridges that it rejected in another printer I have (a Deskjet 6840) and except for not being willing or able to tell me the ink level in that (because it was moved from one printer to another?) it worked fine in that printer.  I have tried at least three new HP ink cartridges, including a freshly purchased one with an expiration date two years in the future, and I get the same result from the 9800 printer.
Unfortunately, the "top open" sensor in the 6840 broke so now it thinks the top is open all the time and I can't print with it, either.
The tape on the cartridge has always been removed before installation, I have tried "hard resets" several times, and I have tried cleaning the contacts in the cartridge holder and on the cartridges (which don't look like they have any stuff on them, and which I never handle)
Questions:
1) is there anything else that might explain this behavior that might be fixed, either by me or by some repair service?
2) is it possible to get repair parts or repair service for the 6840 printer, or is this now junk?

Hi Monteverdi,
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .
I hope this helps.

  • LaserJet 2605dn washed out colors with new color cartridges

I loaded the 3 new color cartridges, the black still has ink.  Now when I print, the colors are washed out .  I calibrated color and ran the cleaning utility.  Strangely, the demo print page with the bright blue and orange looks just fine.  I investigated further and found that printing from Adobe is okay.  So it looks like I only have the problem when I'm printing from MS Office applications.  Any ideas?  It was working fine yesterday, before the toner change.

    Hi Thomas,
With my iP8500 I leave it on, so it appears to be specifically the behavior of the Pro9000. I did a little more testing last night as I recently re-calibrated my system, and have another method you can try. Instead of turning off "Black Point Compensation" which can leave photos with lots of shadow detail a bit too dark, open up the "Printer Settings" window and go to the color management options. The only thing you can change here is the brightness setting. Change it from Normal to Dark, leaving BPC turned on. I think you'll be pleased with the results. Good luck!

  • C7200 all in one won't recognize new ink cartridge

The all in one screen is requesting that I change one of the color ink cartridges. I have purchased three, but it will not recognize any of them. In reading other posts and trying to glean solutions, I have done a power reboot, wiped the contacts with alcohol, and updated drivers. I don't think all three of the new hp cartridges could be the culprit. Is there anything else to try?

  • Computer doesn't register new ink cartridges as being loaded

I have a new computer usiing Windows 7 and every time i load a new Cyan cartridge the printer sees it immediately, however the computer keeps telling me to replace the cartridge or print only in black ???

My HP OfficeJet K60 All-in-One still prints very well.  However, I tried to replace the empty HP 78 Tri-color cartridge with an exact HP 78 replacement cartridge.  The machine says, "Error:  Incorrect color cartridge," and will not print.  When I put the old empty color cartridge back in, the machine says, "Remove and check color cartridge."  Then it will print in black ink but not color.  I have checked the new cartridge and it is identical to the old one.  I have both turned the machine off and on, and reinstalled the new cartridge repeatedly.  However, it continues to say it is an incorrect color cartridge.  Can you help?

  • Mac won't recognize new color ink cartridge in printer

I just changed out my color ink cartridge on my HP printer when it ran out, whilst my printer recognized the new cartridge right away and printed out test pages, the Mac still won't recognize it. The message I get is "Color Print Cartridge Out of Ink". I have tried clicking on everything including Calibrate, Test, Clean etc, they all give me the same message, I can't get past it. Help!

Yes I have done that several times. I have also deleted the printer from printer setup utility and reloaded it. I have also connected the printer to an old laptop of mine and it printed there with no problems. However back on the Mac, it just won't let me print, the same message keeps coming up. Very frustrated...

  • My HP Deskjet 3054 doesn't recognize my new router

I have an HP Deskjet 3054 wireless printer which has worked fine until a recent thunderstorm took out my wireless router and DSL modem.  Modem and router have been replaced and all of my devices work just fine except the pritner which will now only work when connected to the computer via a USB cable.
The blue network light on the printer is flashing.
My laptop is a Dell Studio running Vista.  The router is a Westell 7500

OK, what does not recognize the printer - the router (because the printer has no IP address) or your computer (because it cannot find the printer)?
Do a self-test from the front of the printer - does it show a valid IP address (192.168.X.X)?

  • New Color Cartridge Won't Print

Hidy! This is my office printer, and it cannot be replaced because of strange budget rules so I HOPE we can get it fixed. I went through every troubleshooting thing imaginable. When I print a test page (where you open and close the lid four times), it prints in color. When I print from the troubleshooter to re-align or clean, it prints in color. When I print from ANY program, and I've tried Word, Adobe PDF Files, internet pages through Firefox, everything, it only prints in Black, as if Grayscale is on (which, I look in every single Printer Dialogue Screen just to be sure, it is NOT on. Is there another place I could be missing? I've unplugged, removed, restarted, to no avail. This is just...odd. I know sometimes it will just stop working, but the fact that it's working from the HP software has me stumped. Please help!!! I was SO close to having my print jobs done!

    Hi @knmcnulty
Running the Print and Scan Doctor might help. The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:
    Connectivity:
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Source:Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor> >>>>> www.hp.com/go/tools
If that does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X (), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
    If the issue persists, you might also consider removing the driver from the Server Properties and then re-adding it again;
    1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder
    2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.
Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows 7/8 and 8.1 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.
    3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window
    4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’
    5. Choose 'Remove driver only'
    6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.
If documents are stuck in the print spooler, you may see an error, cancel any documents pending in the print queue, or try restarting the print spooler, then try to remove the driver from ‘Print server properties’ again. If it still won’t remove the package, restarting the computer and the printer should resolve this ‘in use’ error and allow the driver to be removed.
After the driver is removed, open Start > All Programs > HP folder > Printer folder > HP Setup and Software (or the printer icon).
The Setup and software screen will open and you can click on Connect a new printer.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • New Color Cartridge-- prints B&W

I have the HP Deskjet D1420.... I just bought a tri-color ink cartridge-- my printer holds both a black one, and a tri-color one. I have BOTH cartridges in. I installed the tri-color one as I usually do, aligned it, and my printer still only prints in black and white. I changed my printing options to color numerous times in Microsoft Word, I restarted my computer, I even removed the black cartridge completely... which it printed nothing but blank paper. I need the color for school stuff. I need help please.

  • DVR doesn't recognize new eSATA drive

I just purchased a new eSATA drive (Western Digital 1 TB:  WDBABT0010HBK-NESN) and connected it to my Motorola QIP7232-P2 set-top box, but after following the on-screen prompts to enable more storage the DVR does not recognize the additional storage and still reflects the pre-eSATA drive usage %.
I've already disconnected and reconnected the eSATA drive and tried to "enable more storage" through the DVR, which included rebooting the set-top box, a few times already.
    Thoughts?

Thanks, Armond!  I haven't tried replacing the SATA cable yet, but that may be the next logical step.
I tried disconnecting, reconnecting and rebooting the DVR at least a dozen times.  Finally, I was able to get the DVR to recognize the external storage (showing 100% capacity).
However, when the eSATA drive was connected and recognized the DVR wouldn't record any shows (neither scheduled nor live TV).  As soon as I disconnected the drive, recording would resume.  The error message I received in the "History" section of the DVR stated, "This show could not be recorded due to the channel being unavailable, not subscribed or other error."  Verizon Technical Support even sent me a refurbished DVR and that encountered the same problem.
Do you still think it's the cable?

  • Brand new color cartridges won't work.

I recently replaced all my ink cartridges (3 color and 1 black) in my Photosmart 6510. The printer status shows full ink on all cartridges, but it will not print in color. Everything prints black, or just a blank sheet of paper. I have tried re-installing the cartridges, turning off the printer, unplugging the printer. I get an error message when I try "aligining the cartridges".

    Hello kimchamard,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Photosmart 6510 will not print color ink. I will do my best to assist you! Please follow this entire HP document on Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems.
Try printing a print quality diagnostic page to verify if this comes out with color or not. If not, please try cleaning the printhead which should improve the quality.
I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Looks like adobe messed up.  Unable to install the 'required" upgrade  required because it won't let you view any videos until you upgrade. Doesn't recognize new password that I changed because it didn't recognize my old one!

I have been trying to install the new Adobe Flash upgrade 17 for most of the day, it didn't want to recognize my password so I went to the web page changed the password and now it still dosen't like the new password.  Anyone have solutions?

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in  mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.
I am starting to believe that Apple is Satan.

  • Printer does not recognize new ink cartridges

The printer stopped printing in black even though I did not receive a low ink indicator.  I checked the display screen and there was nothing showing in the black or photo columns.  The cyan, magenta, and yellow all have colors showing with a yellow warning triangle toward the top.  I went ahead and replaced both the black cartridge (564XL ) and the photo cartridge (564).  The display screen still does not indicate an ink level in either slot and it does not print in black.

Hi - First question - are you using HP cartridges or are they refills.  If they are refills, you'll want to try an genuine HP cartridge.  If you are using HP cartridges, try resetting the printer:
    Reset the printer:
    CAUTION:
Do NOT perform any other type of reset on the printer before the ink initialization process has been completed.
Without turning the power off, remove the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall socket.
Wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cord to the printer and to the wall socket. Turn the unit on if it is not already turned on.
Check the printer for the error message. If the error message still displays, go to the next step.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPhoto duplicates all of my photos and doesn't recognize new folders.

I am using a Macbook pro, Mountain lion, and Iphoto.  What a nightmare!  Iphoto duplicates every photo or folder I import.  If I create a new folder it cannot find the folder or the photos within.  I have tried updating IPhoto but it appears my IPhoto is up to date.
Is there a fix for this?
If not what is the easiest way to export my photos and uninstall Iphoto?

Unfortunately I have the same problem as DFMitchell.
Whenever I import photos from either my Nikon camera or my iPhone, either the device (which doesn't seem likely given they are two completely separate devices made by two different companies) or iPhoto itself creates a small thumbnail duplicate of the image. The name differs slightly to :*number*.jpg instead of *number*.JPG. as such, when I navigate through Finder to All Images and look at my images in the source folder, I can see a duplicate of every image. When I navigate to the same photo through iPhoto itself, I cannot see that duplicate.
I originally thought this was a problem and so began to manually and painfully delete all these duplicates from the Finder window. However now in iPhoto, the thumbnail image that you can usually see as the 'front' photo on each event folder (ie before you even go into the event) has disappeared. additionally, normally you can move your mouse over an event folder (again before you enter it) and the different images in that event flicker across. Now it's just blank. However when I enter the event i can still see all the photos so I know they're still there.
Question is : why does iPhoto create the duplicate?
Second Question : If my guess is right and the small duplicate is meant to be a thumbnail image which can be seen in the events window, how do I get them back now that i've deleted them? (they're gone out of the trash too)
Note to self - Apple always has a reason for what they do. don't question and don't mess with it especially when you don't understand!!!

  • Windows XP Pro doesn't recognize new hard drive on T61 thnkpad

Hard drive: 160GB 7200 RPM SATA
The Lenovo part number for the new hard drive on my invoice is: 41N5737
However, the sticker on the hard drive itself has this Lenovo part number: 42T1057
                        It is made by Hitachi.
    Thinkpad: T61 (8891-CTO)
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 (newly purchased, shrink-wrapped)
This thinkpad had Vista Home on it. I bought the new hard drive for the purpose of loading a just-purchased copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 on it (. After installing the new hard drive:
    1. I turned on the machne and inserted the Windows XP CD.
    2. Files from the CD (drivers, etc.) started being loaded (into memory, I guess).
    3. Then got a prompt to select whether I'd like to install a new version of XP or restore an existing version.
    4. I selected Install a new version.
    5. Then I got a message saying Windows could not find a hard drive on my machine.
    6. Then I restarted, and interrupted the restart to look at the BIOS config settings
    7. I found the hard drive test function, and started the hard drive test.
    8. It took a while, but the hard drive test was successful. So hard drive is OK, and the BIOS is aware of it.
How can I make Windows XP aware of my new hard drive?
    Thanks for any help....
