[Desktop 3000 K100] Successful Windows 7 upgrade/install?

Hi,
I recently decided to move from Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on my Lenovo Desktop 3000 K100 machine.
I already decided to go with a custom/clean install(I'm experienced in that area), instead of using the upgrade feature.
The question is that, have any of You(the 3000 K100 owners) tried and successfully moved to Windows 7 themselves, and now are happily enjoying the new OS, with no issues?
I've noticed that the K100 system is not listed in the "upgrade capable systems list":
http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/hk/en/htmls/1256358540190.html
But then again does Lenovo mean the actual "Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program", where they provide you with the free license for intended Windows 7 OS(you do pay for delivery of the Windows 7 dvd though, if I'm correct), or just that the drivers do not exist for the OS.
If it's the second reason, then I believe there's no worries since many articles on the web said that Windows Vista is essentially Windows 7 in a newer candy wrapping. Hence all the drivers should be working fine and be compatible for it.
I also ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisory, and at the beginning it told me that I should upgrade my Vista to SP1 before doing the upgrade. I did so successfully and now the Upgrade Advisory says that I'm set for the Windows 7(Not sure why I had to install SP1 thought, after all I'm doing a clean install). Even all the drivers were checked/marked as compatible for the Windows 7.
Already made all the necessary backups so I'm good there.
I did notice one post on these forums about the owner of 3000 K100 having major problems with Windows 7 upgrade. The post is located here:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/desktop-3000-K100-Windows-7-upgrade-problem-STOP-0x...
He did mention that he had made a bios update, and that might have been the main problem(I never touch bios, nor update it unless it is essential thing to do for me), but then again I may be very wrong about it.
So here I'm asking You, the owner of 3000 K100, if the move from Windows Vista to Windows 7 was smooth for you, or did you encouter problems and therefore should I stay away from that idea?

HI,
i've a Lenovo 3000 K100 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits : it's working very well. No drivers to install, very stable.

  • CS5 Design Premium Windows Upgrade Install Failure

    Hi,
I have been trying since receiving CS5 Design Premium upgrade (3 set DVD) for Windows yesterday to install it on my Windows 7 64 bit computer, without success. I have been on the phone several times for several hours with Adobe support with no successful solution. The support person has escalated the case to the next level, which I am told will take a few days to get to my case. Ugh!
In the meanwhile, I have tried most possible solutions in these forum threads, none so far has succeeded.
I've tried removing CS4 Design Premium first, tried to install from a downloaded trial version with and without using serial number. I've tried selective start-up, am the only user with administrative rights, but am right-clicking as administrator to launch anyway. I've installed the latest MS Visual C redistributable, used the CS 4 (when CS4 was removed) and CS5 clean scripts. Since the Adobe Install Advisor early on suggested fixing the color profiles (though this referred to CS4 which had been removed at that point), I followed that knowledge base guide. I extracted the trial download to the C drive and tried to install from there. All to no joy.
From checking the install logs, a second error with an error return of 3 is
Microsoft_VC90_ATL_x86: Install failed. This seems to be the only error return 3. This error was why I installed the latest VC redistributable and why I tried to extract and boot the trial download from the C drive instead of the desktop. Unfortunately, didn't help.
One interesting note: when I have uninstalled CS4 (which was an upgrade to CS3 which is no longer installed), even with deactivating and checking the box to remove old serial numbers, the CS5 upgrade installer does not ask for a qualifying serial number, just the new upgrade's serial number. So, it must be finding something from CS4?
I also read on this forum that someone succeeded by going to the downloaded trial version's payload folder and separately running each MS msi (install, repair, uninstall) which then fixed them. While the first 3 worked fine, what I found is that the fourth msi that I tried to run in the payload folder failed to fully run and install. So, there must be something broken in that msi. I didn't go to the fifth, but it is possible that a few of the msi installers in the payload are not working. I also went to the same msi in the installation DVD's payload folder: it also failed to run fully and rolled back. Same problem. The broken msi: Microsoft_VC80_CRT_x86_x64. Error message 1935:
    HRESULT: 0x80073712. Component: 844EFBA7-1C24-93B2-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E
I am not sure how to fix broken msi's? I checked permissions: the msi's have correct permissions. I have the Windows Installer 5 on my Windows 7 x 64 computer.
At this point, I've run out of possible remedies.
The error log follows. I am hoping someone can suggest a solution to get CS5 upgrade installed.
    Kind Regards,
    saratogacoach

  • Successful Windows 7 Install on Qosmio G25?

Has anyone successfully installed Windows 7 on a Qosmio G25 yet. I understand it's not supported by Toshiba and there is a RAID driver problem. Has the latter been resolved one way or another?

I don't recall where I found the RAID drivers I used, but I keep them on a thumb drive so I just zipped them and uploaded for you guys.
    http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nwmmfiyeymj
All I did to CLEAN INSTALL Windows 7 was the following:
Unzip the files to a thumb drive any folder name or root directory will do.
    Begin Windows 7 install.
When you get to the point during install when Windows 7 cannot find the HDD simply pop in the thumb drive, click the Load Drivers option, and point the installer to the thumb drive directory to which you unzipped the files.
It will give you a list of drivers. The first one should work fine.
You can also burn the files to a CD and use that in place of a thumb drive.
I have used these files several times and they work flawlessly. I replaceed the primary HDD with an SSD and even that works fine with these drivers and Windows 7. As for compatibility, I have not gotten the top buttons to work, I don't use the TV tuner, so that may not work, and the volume knob doesn't have a readout on screen anymore, but does still work.
I also ran into a situation where Windows 7 wouldn't boot anymore, but I used startup recovery and reinstalled the RAID drivers and it boots just perfectly again.

  • Successful Windows 7 install (mostly)

I would like to report that I have been successful at installing Windows 7 RC on a dedicated drive on a Mac Pro (early 2008) using the following procedure:
    1. Downloaded the ISO (Windows 7 RC 32-bit) from Microsoft and burned the image to DVD using Nero 6 in the XP environment (using the lowest burn speed available for best results).
    2. Booted to OS X and ran the Boot Camp Assistant to select the drive and have it partition the drive (which results in a drive with a mini 200 MB partition used for the boot process and a main partition for installing the OS on).
    3. Inserted the Windows 7 RC DVD in optical drive and waited as usual for the disc to appear on the desktop and clicked ‘Continue’ in Boot Camp Assistant.
    4. After the Window 7 RC DVD loaded files, I was presented with a list of partitions that the Windows installer sees. Being careful not to select the 200 MB partition, I selected the proper partition to install Windows on and then clicked the ‘Options’ link below the list of partitions.
    5. After clicking the ‘Options’ link, I clicked on the ‘Format’ option and once that finished, I proceeded with the installation which was nothing more than clicking the button at the lower right corner of installer dialog and letting Windows install itself (which includes rebooting a couple of times).
    6. Once the installer finished, I was presented with the ‘User Name’ options followed by the ‘Password’ and ‘Window Update’ options (I entered a password for security and selected the ‘Recommended’ update option for ease of process).
    7. Windows then prepared the desktop by running the hardware evaluation sequence and I finally arrived at the desktop.
Note – I used the included thin aluminum full sized USB keyboard to enter data in step #6 and a USB mouse to click in all other steps.
I attempted to run the Boot Camp installer off the OS X install disc included with the Mac Pro, but Windows 7 promptly informed me that Boot Camp had known issues with this version of Windows.
I quit the installer and then opened Windows Explorer by clicking the folder icon on the taskbar. Selecting ‘Computer’ allowed me access to the optical drive icon which I could right-click to use the ‘Open’ option to view the contents of the disc. Opening the ‘Boot Camp’ folder and then the ‘Drivers’ folder gave me access to the individual driver installers which can be installed as needed (if needed).
I found the following issues while installing the drivers referred to above:
    1. Installing the Apple keyboard drivers did install the Apple keyboard driver file to the correct location (‘:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\’) but did not enable the Eject key on the keyboard. The other keys all seemed to work correctly for Windows commands although I have not tried all variations, just the typical Ctrl, Shift, Alt modifier combinations.
    2. Installing the other ‘Apple’ drivers did not enable the Eject key either.
    3. Attempting to run the ‘BootCamp.exe’ file by itself resulted in the compatibility error message again, which convinced me that it is this file creating the problem and not the individual driver files. Note – this meant that the Boot Camp applet was not available to select a boot drive from in the Windows 7 RC environment (I had to use the ‘Option’ key during boot to change the boot drive away from Windows 7 RC).
    4. Running the individual Realtek audio installer resulted in improved audio functionality over the audio drivers included in the Windows 7 RC image.
    5. Running Windows Update offered an update to the nVidia 8800 GT card in the Mac Pro which installed and worked correctly.
    6. Looking in Device Manager (right-click Computer \ select ‘Properties’ \ click Device Manager link) – I saw only one missing driver listed as a base device which I believe is the PCI bridge for the data controller enabling the SATA data transfer.
The end result is that I have access to running Windows 7 RC with the following missing functionality:
    1. No use of the ‘Eject’ key on the full sized aluminum Apple keyboard (work-around is to use the optical drive context menu ‘Eject’ command and close tray by hand).
    2. No full speed data transfer on SATA controller (still using the UDMA mode ‘5’ as in both XP and Vista).
    3. Maximum RAM access is still limited to 2 GB (same as XP and Vista 32-bit) although Windows 7 RC sees all 8 GB. If I understand correctly – which I admittedly may not – this has something to do with the 200 MB boot partition and the resulting communication restrictions imposed by the differences between BIOS and EFI.
Note – I have not tried to connect the Bluetooth thin aluminum Apple keyboard yet, but will try later today after work.
Note #2 – this Mac Pro machine has had successful and problem free Windows XP (32-bit) & Vista Business (32-bit) installations with the exception of items #2 & #3 above which seems to be driver / firmware related.
I have read that a number of people are having problems with installing Windows 7 RC when upgrading an existing Vista install. Due to the incompatibility with the current version of Boot Camp and / or other Vista specific files that may be in conflict, it may be worth trying to do a clean install using the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X to repartition and prepare the drive for install (although you would obviously need to reinstall all apps into the Windows environment and backing up your email, favorites and personal files to copy to Windows 7 RC after install).
I would also recommend burning your Windows 7 RC image using the lowest speed possible. Until about 18 months ago, I was a PC power user and have seen failed installs of various Beta and RC versions due to corrupt files created during high speed burns.
I apologize if this is long winded post, but I thought it might help some people and also might help any Apple tech’s dropping by that are trying to identify the issues popping up with running Windows 7 RC on a Mac.
A special thanks to ‘The Hatter’ for taking the time to create this great ‘FAQ \ information link’ post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1866970&tstart=0 on the Windows 7 Beta install process for Mac users.
    Peace.

    Okay,
Here is the balance on the Windows 7 RC (32-bit) installation:
    1. I checked on the (32-bit) beta drivers from the link above and they turn out to be the same as the pre-release version offered by Windows Update under the 'Optional' category, which is a good thing IMHO.
    2. I had to run the Boot Camp installer and select the 'Run Program' button to bypass the compatibility warning message in order to test on the keyboard issue. During the installation, I received a second compatibility message towards the end of the process concerning the chipset drivers, so I quit the installer and rebooted at that point. The result was that the Boot Camp applet was installed (allowing selection of the boot drive from in Windows 7 RC environment) and the 'Eject' key working on the USB full sized aluminum keyboard (as well as all other Windows related keyboard functionality).
    3. I had to use the following procedure to pair the Apple Bluetooth aluminum keyboard:
    a) Turn on keyboard so light blinks indicating sending of a signal.
    b) Click on notification area 'Bluetooth Devices' icon and select 'Add a Device' which displayed a window where found devices are listed as Windows searches. (Note - the other option to get to this windows is 'Control Panel > Add a device link' found under Hardware and Sound category).
    c) Once the keyboard is displayed, right-click device and select 'Properties' (or select device and press Alt+Enter) to display the device properties.
    d) Click on the 'Services' tab and wait for the list to populate, which will result in one check box next to 'Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc (HID)'.
    e) Place a check mark in the box and then click 'Apply', which will start the install process for that service and should result in a notification balloon at the right end of the taskbar. Click this balloon to see the progress as Windows Update checks for any updated drivers and then indicates completion of the install.
    f) The device should disappear from the 'Add a device' list and should now work.
Note - the Bluetooth keyboard pairing is a bit counter-intuitive (not a huge surprise there) in that normally the user should only need to select the device in the list and then click 'Next' to pair (and probably would work if the services were already installed and/or enabled).
That seems (at least to me) to be a generally pain free install process, with the exception of the Boot Camp compatibilty messages making troubleshooting Windows 7 RC on a Mac a bit more ambiguous.
Thanks again for the tips, Hatter.
I will report back to this post once I complete a Windows 7 RC (64-bit) installation using the same drive and procedure to see if all goes well and to verify that Windows 7 RC can access all 8 GB of RAM.
    Peace.

  • Second Hard Drive Caddy (Mounting Rails) - 3000 K100

I need to install a second 3.5" hard drive in my 3000 K100 Desktop.  Unfortunately I dragged my feet and called technical support just after my one-year warranty ended.
Is there 1) Any way to mount the hard drive without one of those plastic caddies or (preferably) 2) a place I can buy one or two of those plastic caddies?
I have been searching everywhere on the internet and cannot find where to buy these or even an alternative.
    Thanks,

I have a Lenovo 3000 k100 that I am installing a second SATA hard drive.
I found the blue drive rails on eBay at --
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270468028776&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AEOIB...
You will also need 90 degree SATA power and data cables.  Also on eBay at --
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270463824414&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AEOIB...
I have the rails, but the SATA connectors hit the cover without the 90 degree angle. I ordered the new cables just today.

  • Has anyone successfully upgraded a Lenovo 3000 N100 to Windows 7?

I have a 3000 N100 with 2 GB of memory on Vista.  Do I need special drivers or firmware changes to successfully upgrade to Windows 7 (32 bit)?  I know I can't increase the memory and am getting a lot of paging with Vista.  Thanks for the help.

You can see my 11/18/2009 post.
The upgrade to windows 7 has been easy on both the Lenovo N100 Notebook (exception - soundMax audio drivers) an an E-Machine Desktop.
I still have no Notebook  DVD audio - seems that there are no SoundMax Win 7 drivers and the Vista compatible option doesn't work.
The Desktop has Realtek and Win 7 drivers are available so every thing now works OK.
We did lose functionality for a 1996 game for which no patch will be made - it wants to control the graphics display and apparently can't use the Win 7 10yrs newer drivers.
Our HP AIO Printer worked with the Win 7 included Drivers but I needed to download the Win 7 files to have the HP programs (Update, Scan, Fax, etc.,).
The Desktop was done with the Upgrade option, the Notebook with the Custom one.

  • SSD Upgrade to Late 2008 MBP, Plus Windows 8 Install

    Hi guys,
I have a 15", late 2008 MBP that was a beast in it's time, but has started to show it's age, especially due to my aging hard drive.  I've read great things about performance improvement through installing an SSD, and so I want to perform this upgrade.  Also, while I do have my computer backed up through Time Machine, I'd rather just be proactive on replacing my hard drive before it fails on me (which will definitely happen at some point).  Here's some more detailed specs for my computer:
CPU: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 4 GB of 1067 MHz DDR 3
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB
Note about the GPU: This comp has the dual graphics chips, but I've been always using the "high-performance" one, which is what is listed above (the other one is a GeForce 9400M).
OS: Most current version of Mavericks (OSX 10.9.2)
In looking up SSD's, I've found that people that have had laptops with similar specs to mine have had success with the Crucial M500 SSDs.
After I get my drive all figured out, I want to use Boot Camp to install Windows 8 on the SSD.  Currently, I do not have any Windows installations on my computer.  My computer is not supported for Windows 8 installation through Boot Camp, despite the fact that hardware-wise, it is compatable with Windows 8.  However, I have found discussions that are pretty standard on how to get Windows 8 installed on my computer.
-So, my first question is: Was my research good for this given SSD for my computer?  It seems like Samsung makes the best SSDs, but I haven't found any evidence that it would be really compatable with my computer.
-My second question: Given that I will have just installed an SSD, will Windows 8 installation be doable?  This is probably the most important question for me, because if it's not possible, then I'd rather just buy Windows 7 right off the bat and install that in boot camp instead.
-My third question: If I can get Windows up and running, how does my computer's double graphics chip configuration work in Windows?  I'd want to make sure that Windows is using the more powerful of the chips and not the less powerful one.
-My fourth question: My computer has gone from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Mavericks, and I never performed a "clean install" for any of these OS upgrades.  If I clone my HD to the SSD, would it be beneficial for me to run a Mavericks clean install, and then pull all my necessary data off my backup drive?
Sorry for the long-winded post, and I know much of it is demonstrated elsewhere.  I have found many discussions involving SSD upgrades, and getting Windows 8 on a late 2008 MBP, but I haven't found anything that has shown both being done.  Both seem easy to do, but I just don't know if doing both in tandem is going to cause a bunch of problems.  Has anyone out there done this, and can anyone offer me any advice on how to make this process any smoother? I really like doing this upgrade now, because if I run into Windows issues, or other issues on the SSD, I could still just boot from my old hard drive and use my computer.  Thanks everyone!

    beestmode,
I have a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and I put a Samsung 840 PRO SSD into mine. Where did you find evidence that this model SSD would not work in your MacBook Pro? (The SSD which you’ve installed has a good reputation, so you should have no reason to regret your choice.)
Windows 8 via Boot Camp will not be possible with your model MacBook Pro. In Boot Camp, you could install up to Windows 7, either 32-bit or 64-bit. A virtualizer such as Parallels Desktop or VirtualBox could allow you to install Windows 8, but virtualizers have their own sets of positives and negatives.
Since I have a 13-inch model with only one GPU, I don’t know how your dual GPUs would be handled on the Windows side.
When I’d installed my SSD, I did a clean installation of Mavericks onto it, keeping Snow Leopard on my old internal disk, and putting it into an external enclosure.

  • On Windows Vista, installed AdobeAir update as required. "Mandatory Upgrade" removed Acrobat!

On Windows Vista, installed AdobeAir update as required. Next screen said "Mandatory Upgrade" & when I clicked on it, version 2.0 of Acrobat was removed, new version 3.2 wouldn't download error# 16820! What do I do now? Need Acrobat, but I don't know what to do next! I'm working at a small church w/no budget. so please help if you can.

Vista requires AA8.1 at a minimum. I think that a few have gotten AA7 to work, but it is not supported by Adobe on VISTA. I know that is not good news, but it may be that you will be unsuccessful. At the very least, expect to have to print to file and open distiller to complete the conversion. I think that AcroTray is one of the major problems with the use on VISTA.
Hopefully someone might stop by that has successfully gotten over the registration problem you are having, and possibly gotten AA7 to work in some sense on VISTA, but do not be surprised if there are no takers. Good luck.

  • I had all photos on a Windows desktop.  Got a mac laptop, installed LR5, and put all images from Windows onto an external hard drive.  When I go to import them into LR on the Mac, they are all locked.  Help, please.  Thanks

I had all photos on a Windows desktop.  Got a mac laptop, installed LR5, and put all images from Windows onto an external hard drive.  When I go to import them into LR on the mac, they are all locked.  Help, please!

"I plugged the external into the Mac and moved a folder of images onto the desktop.  It looks like it went from read only to not locked.  Is this possible?"
Yes, that's exactly what happened. If you buy another drive, you could copy from your existing drive to the new and your files will be read/write. The new drive will have to be formatted as an HFS drive (that's the Mac's format). If you need to format it, you use Disk Utility which is in the Utilities folder on your Mac. Be careful with that -- it wipes out whatever is currently on the drive. Make sure you format the right drive.
I keep all my images on an external drive, too. In fact, I have two matching drives and sync them so I always have a backup.

  • Windows XP CS4 Upgrade Install hangs at Checking System Profile...

Problem: When installing from DVDs, the "Checking System Profile..." progress bar makes it to 90%, then hangs, causing you to abort using Task Manager. Changing startup and services settings, or disabling antivirus software doesn't help.
Here's what got me past the hang.
My guess is that it's a DVD player issue. These install disks thrash like crazy during installation. I did this:
    1. Copy the "Application 1" disc contents to a folder on your hard drive then run setup.exe from the folder the same as you would from the DVD (see Adobe install instructions).
    2. The "Checking System Profile..." progress bar completes and gets you to the serial number entry page.
    3. Enter your serial number and let Disc 1 install from your hard drive.
    4. When the installer asks for Disc 2 in the c:\ drive (which can't be done), cancel the installation. You'll get some troubleshooting information and links that you may find interesting. Exit the installer.
    5. NOW try to install Disc 1 from your DVD drive. Again you get "Checking System Profile...", but since you've already entered your serial number, you get the install window for installing or reinstalling CS4 components. Check the programs that you want to install, then proceed. It's working for me so far.
    Good luck,
    J.

Repy to Jeff K (number 1 topic see top of page):
Your method worked for me THANK YOU FOR POSTING YOU ARE A GODSEND!
This is what I did to make it work:
    1) Copied contents from App1 & App2 DVD's. (can take a while, good time to get a cuppa coffee!)
    2) Pasted them into separate folders on my hard drive (named them Adobe CS4 App1 & Adobe CS4 App2
    3) Ran the App1 setup.exe program from the Hard drive and in a few minutes the serial number page appeared (which didn't appear in the many attempts I have done this weekend so I knew this was working well)
    4) Setup goes through the process as you would expect.
    FYI:
    - The virus & firewall did not affect the installation
    - I did use the cs4cleaner but only found 'Adobe Setup' that was linked to anything on my system
    - I did all other 'Adobe support suggested' work arounds, but none worked for me
    - Jeffs suggestion of copying files to Hard drive is the only one that has worked
    - Some suggestions say to remove flash player...don't bother because it's required for other programs and it gets upgraded with the install anyway so no need to uninstall. it caused problems for my HP Officejet 8500 all in one when i did uninstall it...save yourself the extra issues.
    - Dual monitors and graphics cards aren't the issue so don't change any settings there, i have dual monitors didn't create the issue for me.
I'm running XP SP3 on PC with a fresh install of CS4 (not an upgrade).
    hope this helps

  • Unable to boot from disk. I have a Windows 7 installed and cannot login to it. I would like to remove windows and install the orginial or upgraded OS.

I have a MacBook Pro that has Windows 7 installed. I am no longer able to login in to windows. I would like to just start from scratch and rebuild the computer but when I try to boot from the OS install disk I am directed to the boot manger screen. The ony OS avaliable for me to boot to is Windows. I have even tried to use a DBAN disk and usb but nothing seems to work. any suggestions?

If you have inserted the Mac OS X install DVD disc in the DVD drive and used the Option key at boot and all you see on the screen that comes up is the Windows OS disk thenn your DVD drive has failed,
If you have not inserted the OS X install disc in the DVD drive then do that and at Startup/Restart Hold down the Option/Alt key and then select the DVD disc icopn that comes up.
