Desktop 6.2.2 will not save data

Since I upgraded to 6.2.2 from 4.1.4 my Desktop will only save old data, like items more than 2 years old. On restarting the computer, it wipes out anything new. But not always... I've tried reinstalling it several times. It seems like it starts to save, it works for several restarts and then one day it just looses the last 3 weeks or so of data. Completely gone, not in backups, not anywhere. Wiped out. It also does this with my address book. It takes a random time period and just wipes out all the addresses entered since then - completely gone. I've had it with this program.
I've used Palm for 10 years or so but I'm currently without a Palm device. With so much data saved in the desktop, and my comfort with using it, I would like to continue using the desktop indefinitely. I tried reinstalling the older 4.1.4 version but the data from 6.2.2 will not transfer. At this point I can no longer use the program without backing everything up on a daily basis on removable hd to keep it away from the desktop. This just shouldn't be.
So.... can anyone tell me how to get the data out of 6.2.2 and into 4.1.4? I'm running XP Pro. I'd hate to give up on this software because there's nothing as good out there, but then again, I can't live with it like this. I never had a single problem with 4.1.4.
Thanks,

There is no way to downgrade and export your data to a lower version of Palm Desktop. Now with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 when you close the Desktop you may want to go to file and save all then close.

  • Photoshop CS6 - Batch function will not save files

OK, I have used the "Automate/Batch" function well over a hundred times, so this situation (first time using it in CS6) is VERY frustrating!
    Running Adobe CS6 extended v. 13.0.1 x32 on a Win XP sp3 OS.
I have a slew of photos that need nothing done except to resize from the native file size to 6 in x 4 in @ 150 ppi and save into a new folder (to not override the original).  I have recorded the action multiple times now and each time I run the action, the files do not save! Here are the various parameters I've used:

Please help!  This has never been a problem before CS6 and I truly am at my wits end trying to figure out why the files will not save.  I have several hundred files that I need to run this on, so doing it individually is not an option.
Thanks in advance for any and all insights!

I'm having a problem with Automating > Batch as well. Strange enough, I did a batch of other photos and it worked fine. Selecting a new set of folders is not working at all; the files simply pop open and then close but the destination folder remains empty. It also doesn't appear the actions are occuring since I don't see them highlighting as the automation runs. I have no idea why it would work then not. BTW, "Override Action "Save As" is unchecked.
    ~CG
UPDATE: I put a "save as" command at the beginning of the action, then checked the "Override Action "Save As" box and it somehow works now, but not before stalling on an image (normally the last in the folder) and complaining that the image was being used in another program. The only other program opened was Bridge so I'm unsure why it had a problem. I closed both programs and ran the automation with nothing else opened and it worked ... ?? Confused, but not complaining (for now).

  • Safari 7.0 will not save PDF

My Safari 7.0 will not save PDF files that can be opened, what do I need to do to get this function working again?

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Photoshop CS will not "save" or "save as" my canon 5d jpegs

CS works fine for me. No need to upgrade. But it does not like my jpeg files from a Canon 5d. The program just freezes when I try to save or save as.
I've looked at the file permissions and preferences. Can't see anything, but who knows? Any advice gratefully received. Tried renaming file, tried converting to TIFF but no luck so far. Argh!
I'll attach a file if anyone wants to look at the settings.
    Best wishes, Patrick,

Just replied in the PS forum. Yes reset all tolls works. File opens and Saves As - but on opening gives warning
"embedded ICC profile cannot be used as is invalid. Ignoring."
So somewhere - uploading from camera or loading into PS something sometimes goes wrong.
So I'm not much wiser, but thanks for the fix anyway. Best, P.
PS Was not a freeze as such, the main screen dims, and I regain control by clicking on a PS window on my second monitor. Did not check what Task Manager has to say - but will next time it goes wrong. Thanks.

When you save "freeze" do you mean that Windows Task Manager says it's "not responding" or is it crashing or what?
Out of curisity, when you do this, what happens when you press ESC on the keyboard? If the program comes back, then it might just be showing up off the screen.
You might just try resetting preference per this FAQ:

  • System Settings will not save my desired mouse scroll direction

I understand the Apple genius of wanting the Settings: Mouse: Scroll direction: Natural box to be checked.  But **** it, this is MY iMac and I want the scroll direction to remain Unchecked, so the screen scrolls in the direction I’ve been used to for YEARS.
The problem is the System Settings will not save the unchecked scroll box.  I have to return to the System Settings every time I log on to UN check the Scroll Direction: Natural box.
Will Apple ever fix this so that I, and others, can operate the scrolling as THEIR LONG-TIME USER sees fit?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • After upgrade to Lion, iPhoto will not save events nor save albums after created.

After upgrade to Lion, iPhoto will not save events nor save albums after created. Once iPhoto is shut down and re-launched, albums and events created no longer exist. How can this be fixed?
Also, when attempting to create cards, iPhoto freezes.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • InDesign Will Not Save or Save As in CS6 or CC

This has been an ongoing problem. I have Adobe Creative Cloud. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, updated to new versions. ONLY problems with INDesign.
Will not SAVE or SAVE AS./
I have been forced to export as In Design Markup (IDML) file as a workaround, which is not helpful at all.
Save and Save As options are grayed out and unavailable.
ANY IDEAS anyone? I see that there are others on discussion board for this issue, but no one seems to have successfully cracked this nut.
    In Design version 9.2.2
Mac OSX 10.9.4, 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 1600 MHz DDR3. Plenty of machine.
    Thanks

    Dear Bonolgirl55,
This has been a very frustrating experience - and I know there are many others out there dealing with this same problem. I have had several email and live chat conversations with the INDesign team about this. They have not yet solved the problem (they are reportedly aware and working on a fix for future update), but we did find two workarounds to the problem.
First workaround is to export as IDML files and open that way. That is a maddening solution, you will find, and still does not allow you to UNDO or use the program to its maximum efficiency. It does help you prevent complete loss of your work however.
Second workaround -- assuming you are using a Mac -- was to create a completely new Mac User on your computer, logout of your current user, then login to new user and reopen InDesign there. When I did that, InDesign had no problems at all. It worked fine. The issue with that, of course, is that you have to make sure your files and graphics are all copied over to new user Documents file, or or otherwise accessible from a shared drive somewhere. This solution allowed me to use InDesign without any of the Save / Save As / Undo issues -- but obviously undercut workflow productivity between Adobe programs and with other files, email, etc. as I was essentially cut off from my normal desktop work environment and lacked easy toggle between Mac Users.
I am afraid that I have no other solution to offer, and I don't know when Adobe will figure this out. My problem ONLY applies to InDesign (I am a Creative Cloud subscriber). It's been very unpleasant and annoying.

  • Custom Authentication in 4.2 will not save Authentication Function Name

    Upgrade from 4.0 to 4.2.
When creating a new Custom Authentication the Authentication Function Name will not save in the Apex Create\Edit screen. After the Apply Changes button is clicked and the authentication scheme reopened - the Authentication Function Name will be cleared. If PL/SQL code was populated in the source field - it will still be present.
Looking in the WWV_FLOW_AUTHENTICATIONS table - a new record is created but attribute_03 (this seems be where the Function Name is stored) attribute_05 and attribute_15 are null. The PL/SQL entered in Apex is there in the PLSQL_CODE field.
All preexisting Custom Authentications that existed - there fields are populated and still work correctly. However, if you edit the Authentication Scheme in Apex it nulls out those fields in the WWV_FLOW_AUTHENTICATIONS table and the scheme no longer works.
I can manually set attribute_03 to my function name, and attribute_05 to 'N' in the WWV_FLOW_AUTHENTICATIONS table and the Authentication scheme will work as long as you never try to edit it and save inside APEX( these fields are nulled out if you do this).
Also - Authorizations schemes are behaving similarly.
Checking the WWV_FLOW_SECURITY_SCHEMES table - attribute_01 is always NULL.
No error is ever given inside the Apex designer.
Any ideas how I can debug this?
    10.2.0.4.0 DB.
    Edited by: Bill14 on Nov 27, 2012 7:32 AM

That's what happens when you don't pay attention to what you are typing (me that is). Edited original post.
DB version is 10.2.0.4.0 (11.5.10 is our ebiz version)
The PL_SQL column in WWV_FLOW_AUTHENTICATIONS is a CLOB. Looking at a a data view in Toad it abbreviates the field to say(HUGECLOB).
This does not occur on apex.oracle.com and all of our 4.0 installs still behave as expected. The DBA said that he checked the install logs and did not see anyting out of order. I've never done an APEX install, is there a specific log file (or naming convention for a logfile) that I can tell him to look in or look for?

  • IOS6 Upgrade - Contacts will not save

Ever since upgrading to iOS6 on my iPhone 4S, new contacts will not save to the list; however, when I type in the number their name will appear on the outgoing call.  This is very frustrating. Any idea how to get the contact to actually appear in the list?

I have this problem in 10.8.2 on a mbp 2010. Don't know how long I've had the problem but noticed it when I needed to rely on some important information that I had previously added in the Note section of a contact. When I closed the app and relaunched it, the information was no longer there. It doesn't happen all the time so its frustrating and I don't know if I can rely on this app. I don't sync contacts across multiple devices or on the cloud. I just keep things simple and use it locally on my mbp.
Here's a couple of instances that confirms the problem along with a WORKAROUND:
Apple care support - advisor was able to replicate the problem and said he would report it. Kudos to the advisor for this workaround: after you edit a note of a contact, click on another contact, then click in the note area of that contact before you close the application. This seems to work most of the time.
Best Buy - salesperson was able to replicate the problem on a 15" mbp retina osx 10.8.2. The desktops, mbp's and mba's with osx 10.7.x did not seem to have the problem. (Interestingly, when the salesperson repeated this a few times, the Contacts icon disappeared from the dock and he had to go search for it and drag it back to the dock.)

RESOLVED!!! I logged on to my Straight Talk online account, and did a Tech Chat. They immediately gave me a direct phone number and a Reference PIN number and asked me to contact their iPhone specialty support. I called (of course the gentleman's accent was very difficult for me to understand, but managed with asking continually for clarity). He walked me through several tests, setting changes and had me get on my wifi to obtain the latest APN settings. None of his efforts worked ad it was obviously NOT my Straight Talk iPhone 5, 64GB CDMA (no SIM) - it was something with their setting on their end on my account. I was placed on hold a few times and he would come back on to have me try to get on Safari and even Google... after the 3rd on-hold, he returned and asked me to try to use my data again without the wifi turned on and BINGO it worked... I still do not have my wifi turned on and I'm still receiving texts from YESTERDAY too while I was away from wifi service. IF you come across this issue - please call Straight Talk and/or log on to your Straight Talk online account and talk to an online customer service representative and get their direct line phone number for iPhone support and have your Reference PIN number available. Good Luck

  • My iphone will not save the photos I have taken with the phone

My iphone will not save the photos I have taken with the phone. I have now been working in Italy for 3 months. Shortly after I got here my camera stopped working and this was my only camera! I use AT&T and my phone is not hacked. I have no idea how to contact help from mac. My father in the states has tryed many times to talk with apple but nothing good has come. Please, can someone help!!!!!!

Exactly one week after I posted notes on my "fix" (see above: I reset the phone and erased all my data), the problem has recurred. The camera pretends to take the picture, but nothing is saved in the camera roll but a blank white square. When I touch the square (where the photo should be) the application crashes and I'm returned to the home screen. In the meantime I have not synced any pictures from my iPhoto library, so I'm sure it's not a corrupt photo from my Mac that is causing the problem.
This is upsetting, because I lost some great snapshots before I could get them synchronised off the phone.
This also happened to my wife's phone. She took her's in to the Apple Store, and they helpfully reset her phone, erased all her data, and sent her on her way with a "fixed" phone. I'm going to have to go in and try to convince them that this doesn't actually fix anything.

scanning photo and does scan then states ;Non writable will not save?????

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if it frightens you, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
