[Desktop] Alienware AlienFX support

I know this is a topic that has allready been poster back in 2012 and it did not recieve enough KUDOS.
One of your admins added a question to that post, weather it was iTunes etc who creaded the implementation or if it was Alienware.
To answer the question it is Alienware who have made the pluggin, as the AlienFX is something that is hardwired to the the motherboard and the BIOS. Therefore it is not possible for people to simply create a plugging to get it working.
All alienware computers come with the pluggin however in the case of Windows media player, iTunes, winamp and many games it is just a matter of copying the pluggin to the respective programs folders. The programs have to deside what to do with this pluggin.
In many games, for example Battlefield the keyboard will change colour depending on your health. The alienware logo will flash red if you are taking fire. In EVE online the keyboard has several lighting changes such as when you arrive at your destination, taking fire, warp speed etc.
In windows media player the pluggin allows you to set up colour schemes that are supposed to light up depending on the frequency being played.
Here is a youtube video showing the pluggin being used in Winamp.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQkn0DxUwZs
The video has over 40k views so there clearly are many Alienware owners who would appreciate this intergration.

  • Is there any way to export a desktop AIR package when desktop is not supported by an ANE?

    I have a third party ANE that I need to use. The ANE has a target for Android, but when I add it in Build Path->Native Extensions an error shows up "This ANE does not support Desktop(Mac) platform". Now, my app is targeting android, but to make it easy for others in my company to play builds without having a device, I've been using the "Export Release Build->Signed AIR package for installation on desktop" option. The problem is, since I've added the ANE, I'm no longer able to hit the "finish" button because it's greyed out due to the error (even though the checkbox to include the ANE is unchecked in the export settings. The only way I've found to work around this is to remove the ANE temporarily and comment out references to it to build the desktop package, which is not optimal. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Rather than commenting it out, you could define a compiler parmeter:
    [code]
      -define=CONFIG::includeAndroidANE,true
    [/code]
    Then, in your code, wrap any references to the problem code in the config statement
    [code]
    CONFIG::includeAndroidANE
    import the.problem.package.ProblemExtensionClass;
    [/code]
    And:
    [code]
    CONFIG::includeAndroidANE
       if(ProblemExtensionClass.isSupported()) {
            var v:ProblemExtensionClass = new ProblemExtensionClass();
             v.init();
             v.doSomethingThatIsntSupportedOnAMac();
    [/code]
    Then, when you compile for Mac, you just need to set CONFIG::includeAndroidANE,false;
    This is what OSMF does to support different versions of the player, and also what SWIZ do to support different versions of Flex.
    All good.

  • Tiler Desktop Environment with support for iconified files and dirs

    I like to put a lot of my temporary files and directories I am working with on the desktop as icons so I can easily start them by the click of a button. However in gnome I am always manually tiling my windows. Is there any tiler with icon support? Or do you recommend running a tiler inside a more complex desktop environment?

  • How to register a desktop app that supports Windows 7

    I want to create a desktop app that uses the OneDrive API. This app will be compatible with Windows 7 as well as 8.1.
    Do I still have to register it with the Windows Store?  If not, how do I receive a client ID?
    I don't want to create a "modern" application. I want to create a desktop application.

    Hi Richard x64,
    You can receive a client ID by registering your app at

  • Does Remote Desktop Services Gateway Support RSA SecurID without TMG or ISA?

    We would like to roll out a single server RDS Gateway in our DMZ that can allow users to work from home and access their primary Windows 7 physical box workstation in the office.
    Instead of purchasing laptops for everyone who only occasionally needs to work from remotely, we would like some of the users to be able to use their home PCs and not need to install any VPN or other software on their computers.
    We already have RSA SecurIDs used for VPN clients, and I wanted to know if there is a way to use these existing tokens for second factor authentication instead of having to purchase an additional product such as Duo Security or AuthAnvil.
    If will be much easier to use something we know and probably much more economical to use the SecurID tokens that are already paid for plus add a few more if needed.
    We do not have TMG or ISA and when I do a web search for RSA tokens with RDS Gateway, most of the results are talking about using TMG to make it work.

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    Sorry to say but as per my research generally RSA SecurID use TMG or ISA without that it will not function correctly. You can follow article for useful information.

  • Can somebody recommend a remote desktop support solution?

    I am looking for a remote desktop solution to support our remote office(s) Mac systems.  Apple Remote Desktop is not an option.  All versions of VNC that we have tried will not work with Mac Lion.  Bomgar has been ruled out because of finances.
    Anybody have other suggestions?

    Normally I would suggest TeamViewer.com, but you are talking a commercial situation which should be paid for, and you mentioned financial issues.
    I do not understand the VNC not working, as I've used Screen Sharing (just Apple wrapped VNC) both to and from Lion to other Macs.
    Can you please describe the configuration information
    What VNC clients? (Mac OS X Screen Sharing, Chicken (or Chicken of the VNC), JollysFastVNC, TightVNC, UltraVNC, RealVNC, other...)
    What VNC server?  (Screen Sharing, Remote Desktop, Vine Server, other...)
    What computer is trying to connect to the remote offices?  Is it a Mac or other
    What operating system version (is this the Lion system?)
    What is the office Mac?  Is that the Lion system?
    What do you have as a router at work?
    Can you configure your work router to allow VNC ports 5900, 5901, 5902, ... through your router and vector the different port numbers to specific Office Macs?  <http://portforward.com>
    Have you tried Mac OS X Screen Sharing?  On the Office Mac you enable System Preferences -> Sharing -> Screen Sharing (optionally, you can enable a VNC password for non-Mac clients).  On the Mac client, you use Finder -> Go -> Connect to server -> vnc://address.of.office.router:5903 which would connect to port 5903 on the office router which you would have previously port forwarded to a specific office Mac.
    If you are in the office, then you should see the Mac via bonjour in your Finder side-bar or via Finder -> Go -> Connector to server -> Browser
    Anyway
    No-IP.com or DynDNS.org can provide a dynamic DNS name to make finding your office router easier.

  • ADF Desktop Integration - Can it Support Master Detail Information

    I reviewed the OBE and also the user guide. I could not see any specific details as to whether the ADF Desktop integration can support master detail relationship - either master table with detail table or Master form with detail form, to be linked with the excel sheet.
    Defining both the master and detail table as "tables" I was able to get the data into the excel sheet for the entire master and the child of the first master. The fetch of the child records for the second or third master records is not happening, obviously because I am missing suitable actions.
    Please let us know if:
    - the Master detail can be supported in a view only mode in the integrated excel sheet - with partial page functionality?
    - The master - detail page can be used to upload a header record (master) and many detail records.
    Appreciate any inputs.
    Thanks
    Ram.

    Yes. ADFdi can be configured for "master-detail" type use cases.
    You can create cases with a master form and a detail table. Or, you can create cases with multiple tables.
    ADFdi does not automatically manage the relationship between the form and table, or between the tables. So, the implementation details depend on your specific use case.
    For example, given two tables (one above the other), you might choose to make one column in the "master" table double-clickable. The double-click action set can then invoke the download action of the second, "detail" table.
    For a master form - detail table case, you can configure a "next" button to navigate to the next "master" record and download the details into a table.

  • Application crashes when trying to open jpg with Desktop API

    Hi, i would like to open jpg, or gif files using Desktop API, and the application crashes.The Desktop API is supported by my OS, because txt files, or file directories can be opened, mails can be sent, browsing is also supported.
    Only jpg and gif, and i think other picture formats cannot be opened.
    Obviously ACDSee and other picture viewing programs are installed in my computer.
    The corresponding application code can be found at the bottom of the page of http://www.awprofessional.com/articles/article.asp?p=661371&seqNum=2&rl=1
    my code:
    if(Desktop.isDesktopSupported()){
    Desktop desktop=Desktop.getDesktop();
    try
    desktop.open (fileToOpen);
    catch (IOException ioe)
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (frame,
    "I/O problem");
    catch (IllegalArgumentException iae)
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (frame,
    "File doesnt exist");
    fileToOpen is obviously a File.
    Thx for the help in advance.

  • Two Windows users accessing the same Datebook (Palm Desktop)

    I have a Vista machine that has Palm Desktop 6.2 installed. My wife sometimes needs to access the calendar to add dates, etc. I set up the Vista machine for remote desktop and gave her an account so that she doesn't kick me out of my session. When she launches Palm Desktop, she can only create a new user/profile, not access the one that's already there. How can I accomplish this? Thanks!

    Palm desktop doesn't support the fast user switching thus the problems you are running into. I think the closest you are going to get to in order to share this data is a program called SyncUs.
    They have a current version that is in beta that is compatible with Palm Desktop 6.2 if that is something you want to give a try.

  • Remote desktop and smart card

    Hi.
    I need to use a smart card while working with remote desktop.
    My office pc runs win XP and have a smart card connected. I can not use that card when working remotly, its not found. Like its disconnected.
    I also have a smart card connected to my Mac at home. The smart card works fine when the VPN connection ask for my code.
    The problem is that it does not get forwarded. I have tried to use MS Remote Desktop for mac and CoRD.
    But none of them supports the smart card.
    It works fine with parallels/win7 on my mac, I can then use my smart card.
    How ever I would like to not use the win/ on my mac.
    Do anybody have a soulution to this? Are there any Remote desktop applications that support forwarding of smart card for Mac OS?
    Thanx for any tips

    You can install rdesktop with Smart Card support.
    It is fairly easy if you use something like MacPorts, Fink, or Homebrew.
    I know MacPorts has a port for it that I used in the past.

  • IMac G5 intel core duo extended desktop?

    I never really got a clear answer on this by searching google. Can I add another monitor to my iMac and make it extended desktop without adding any programs?

    Hi FRD714
    Yes, all you need is the correct Mini-DVI adapter and cable and you can connect up and use just about any display, projector or TV. The following Apple article will help you to determine which adapter you need and briefly explains the Mirrored and Extended Desktop features.

  • Desktop Office Integration - How to use Weblinks for Images in linkserver?

    Hello experts,
    I want to add an image from the internet (e.g. Link: www.images.de/image.jpeg) to the linkserver in order to paste it in my word document. As I know it should be possible to do so with the link server. I tried it before with business documents "BDS" and it works fine. But in my opinion this place is not the best place to store pictures. So I want to use the pictures, which are currently stored in our portal and are available via weblink.
    So, actually, I have to give the information about the link to the link server method "add_binary_item", but with something like that "http://www......" it doesnt work! Do I have to enter a prefix or something like this???
    I hope someone could help me with that issue.
    THanks and regards,
    marcus

    Hello,
    I did it and it works fine!
    But I had to use the BDS Business Document Service with Class cl_bds_document_set.
    So I used the method "get_with_url" to get the url from the document/picture.
    After that I cann add a binary item with the URL and it works fine if my pictures are stored in BDS.
    But that is not what I want to do. I want to store the pictures in my mime repository for example. Are there any other possibilities to do that? Or is Desktop Office Integrations supporting just documents/pictures which are stored in BDS???
    Regards, Marcus
    Edited...........................................................
    In best case I am able to user internet urls for the pictures. So "http://www.xcxy.de/picture.jpeg", but with this URL information it doesn´t work!
    So, my question is if I have to add a prefix or something like this in order to use weblinks.

  • Buying a new desktop for Aperture

    Good afternoon, everyone. I'm looking at purchasing a new desktop system to support my Aperture habit. I'm currently running on an original 2.0GHz black MacBook with 2GB of RAM. Aperture's pretty pokey. My company has a computer purchase assistance program wherein they pay for 20% of the purchase of a new system including software, memory, &c. The glitch is that the maximum monitor size they allow as part of that program is 22". In speaking with someone in HR today, it sounds like my purchase of a 24" iMac would probably not be allowed under that program. My out of pocket purchase price, including 4GB of RAM from OWC and add'l software, is $2,356.72 for the 2.8GHz 24" iMac and $1,557.92 for the 2.4GHz 20" iMac. (Similar configurations of a 2.6GHz 15" iMac and dual 2.6GHz Mac Pro with 20" display are $2,453.92 and $2,770.72 respectively.) I might be able to suck up a $400 difference between the 20" and 24" iMacs if I got the refund on the larger one, but $800 is just too much.
    Wow, that's a lot of build-up. So, my question is, how well does Aperture run on the 2.4GHz 20" iMac? It seems like the jump from 2.4GHz C2D to 2.8GHz C2D "Extreme" is non-negligible, but Aperture also seems to be largely GPU-bound and both models have the same graphics setup. Performance aside, how is the display on the 20" iMac? Can it be reliably calibrated using the huey or Spyder2 Express? I really am an amateur, but I've come to the point where I need more horsepower to run Aperture and I would like to start doing some prints, so I'll need a display which can be reliably calibrated. I also want/need more screen real estate, but I'll get no matter which model I go with.
    Thanks in advance for any advice you can throw my way...
    Brian

    Brian, I'd take a long hard look at the Mac Pro before I'd go with the iMac. The problem is twofold: the graphics card, and the display itself. The glossy screen is gorgeous, but is not as easily calibrated as a matte screen. I also personally find a glossy screen fatiguing on the eyes, and not as suitable for fine photo work. Also, with a Mac Pro you can get a better graphics card like the xt1900 -- which you will surely need. I'm sure those with iMacs will chime in with their opinions -- but I thought I'd give you a tower perspective!
    Whatever you do, definitely get 4g RAM.
