Desktop and mouse jumping during startup

When starting the computer, the screens and mouse jump all over the place and switches screens.

I have a Powermac G5-I only have in the computer what was factory installed. The computer is a little over 5 years old. The problem started after I booted up and logged in. My desktop and pointer were frozen. I could not escape and I tried to shut down doing a force quit. No Luck. I eventually had to unplug the computer from the wall. Upon restarting the computer, when it came on, all I got was a gray screen with the Apple logo. After about a minute of this, The internal cooling fans would come on full blast. I also tried booting from the start-up disk (I had to install the disk manually, because the drive would not respond to the key command) with no luck. I have taken it to the Mac store. Their conclusion was it could be the motherboard or the CPU's, but they weren't certain either. Do you think it could be possible that it's not the CPU or Logicboard? The expense for replacing both, almost doesn't make it worth it. Any ideas?

  • Desktop G5 shuts down during startup

Just sold our Desktop G5 to my in-laws. (It has always worked well for us.) Put 10.4 on it and everything has run just fine for a couple months. All of a sudden, it turns off during startup. It tries to restart, probably because I put the settings to restart in case of power outage. It sometimes gets to the desktop, even starts to open some applications as usual. Then other times it turns off during startup, only getting as far as the gray apple startup screen. We have changed everything we can such as different electrical outlet. (grabbing at straws.)
It did have a cd in it but when managed to get it out. This had no effect on the problem.
Also tried resetting SMU, with no effect on problem. Also held down option to get to chose startup disk while the 10.4 cd was in drive, but still does the same thing. Held C down too to force it to cd but did not work....same problem.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Keyboard and mouse events during screen sharing

    I use OS X 10.6.8, my mom has 10.5.(8?).
Screen sharing used to work fine. I am always viewing her screen.
Lately, none of my keyboard presses or mouse clicks make it through the connection to her machine. I can 'influence' but not really control the placement of her cursor as viewed on my screen. She never sees the pointer move from wherever it was before I started trying to move it. I can see her screen fine, and even see some frame rate if she plays a video from an email message (but I don't get the audio stream). We can't continue talking while the video is playing though because our voice connection has too many dropouts.
She did change from using Comcast to using AT&T Uverse several months ago. I can't remember exactly when the troubles started, but it could have been at the time of that switch. She is getting a lower speed connection than she used to.
Are these issues strictly a problem of a too-slow connection, or is there something else to try. I'm most concerned about the keyboard and mouse loss, since that means I have to describe every action to her instead of doing anything myself. I can live without viewing videos over a screen sharing link...

    Hi,
It is worth doing  Speed check at both ends
    http://www.speedtest.net/
It may also pay to open the Connection Doctor (Video Menu) during a Audio or Video chat and checking the Bit rate and Framerate (on Video).
iChat in 1-1 Video needs "Real World" speed of 256kbps  (it will manage according to Apple at 128kbps).
This Min of 128kbps is the min for Screen Sharing as well.
The Connection Doctor will show you what iChat is using (your Bit rate) NOT what the Internet Speed is measured at.
It will be closer to the Upload Speed you have.
iChat will tend to settle closer to the slower speed of whichever Buddy has the slowest Upload (plus a margin for variances in the ISP's feed/service)
If the variances in the Internet Speed from the ISP varies too much then iChat will have difficulties.
It will drop Audio (As far as you as concerned) as it will start dropping frames to smooth the video out.
For this reason it can pay to go to iChat > Preferences > Video Section and try the Bandwidth Limit at 500kbps  (If for instance you have a 10Mbps Upload a 5% variance can be a whole 500kbps)
With both ends at 500kbps you can be below the Variance factor.
Try 200kbps if there still appear to be problems.
    NOTE:-
iChat's responses are determined by the Internet Speed (Or at least the portion that computer is getting = Bandwidth) and what else the computer is doing.
Depending on the Mac and it's Processor and the apps running at the time iChat may not get a decent use of the Processor.  (It is set to use it "last" a it were so Downloading, Playing Video elsewhere, or setting background tasks (Anit Virus scans, iMovie Rendering) may impinge on free Processor cycles).
Try to eliminate as much as possible.

  • Hide windows desktop and mouse

    Hi,
I need to hide the mouse and the desktop, including the fine white line that is left after manually hiding the taskbar. In other words, I need the front panel to completely fill the screen.
I am using Evaluation LabView 6.0.1 on Win98.
    Thanks,
    Yossi

    Hi,
To make this work, the taskbars 'auto hide' option must be disabled!
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

  • Having a problem with noises and mouse jumping, tried to reinstall and computer will not allow me to select the correct install icon.  Sends me to xcode install

my kids computer began acting up this spring...so I shut it down.
Would not stay turned off, various noises almost continually, jumping highlights, etc.
Decided to reinstall os x snow leopard.  insert disc and icon appears.  then 3 icons with x in a column.
automatically highlights middle icon and will not allow me to select one above.  Says install xcode.
not what i want to do.
    any help?

What model iMac do you have?
What version of Mac OS is it running? If you don't know, try to give approximations on when it was set up and whether it was ever updated so we can take our best guess.
How are you trying to boot from the install disc? Your description of 3 icons with x in a column' leads me to believe that you aren't booting from the install disc, but rather you are inserting the disc after booting from the OS that is installed on the hard drive. If that is what is happening you'll see something like this, although it will vary depending on the actual version of the Install Disc that you have and how you've chosen to view the files (icon, list, column, etc).
What happens if you restart the system with the Install Disc inserted, then quickly hold down the 'c' key so that the system attempts to boot from the Install Disc. Do you still experience the same issue?

Its look that libraries are not in class path when i start from the administrative console. What do you suggest? and How we can solve this problem?
    Regards,
    Imran

Solution: Node manager issue, Node manager incorrectly configured,
    run
    $ ...oracle_common/common/bin/setNMProps.sh
Then run the node manager start script.
Other configuration may also be necessary:
append | *.*.*.* to the incoming socket c.a.s.f for UCM in the em configuration web app ( http://IP:7001/em).
Edit: above should red | star.star.star.star where star="*"

  • Desktop and mouse problems

Whenever I move around the desktop with the trackpad, it starts opening up rectangular boxes and highlighting icons inside the box. Also, when I move around web pages, things get highlighted without my intending to highlight them. What is ?

The problem continues in the new administrator account. When I first go to the desktop, I can move the cursor with the trackpad in a normal way but once I click on the desktop the cursor becomes very sticky and draws boxes, highlights icons, and drags icons. Also, I can't pull down the toolbar list of "old favorite" sites.

  • If I install a new NVidia PC card on my Mac Pro will I be able to choose between Boot Camp and OS X during startup?

I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere.
Will the lack of EFI prevent me from choosing which OS to boot into (due to no bootup screen)?
Does Apple have a workaround for this?
Also, is my Mac Pro (Quad; 4,1; 2009) compatible with the whole line of Geforce GTX, provided I have the "magic" drivers?
(I need to use OS X for music and 2D graphics (Pro Tools, Adobe), and the Windows side for game development with Oculus DK2)

    Thank you! Great advice.
I think I'm giving up on this, though. Only few card models are supported on the Mac Pro (with or without EFI firmware flash), and it's too much of a risk it won't even work at all if I don't buy the exact overpriced/outdated chipset supported. Apple hardware support is terrible, and information on workarounds to that lack of support are nonexistent. I wish I could make this work, but it's cheaper and easier to just get a cheap AMD with great graphics for all 3D/rendering projects.

  • Security Agent is suddently appearing during startup and on my desktop

    Hello,
So recently, during startup while my login/password page is loading, I'll see "Security Agent" appear in the upper left corner of my screen. Then ususally, maybe a half hour to an hour after I've started up, it appears on my dock, running. I can quit from the dock that's the only option I have. It will usually reappear randomly after that throughout the day.
Anyone have any ideas of what this is all about?
    thanks,
    Tucky

    Hello,
Actually "Security Agent" is part of the OS. Here's a apple developers page explaining. http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Security/Conceptual/SecurityOverview/Architecture/chapter_2_section5.html
I just don't understand why a normally invisble operation is suddently appearing out in my desktop.
You can read my computer stats below. But in case you can't I'm on an aluminum power book running 10.4.7
    thanks

My Mac air book screen automatic change and automatic open different programs during my working it's move its self and I lost my work and mouse pointer automatic dance. Help me to solve
    Any one can help me

Thank you for your response - I'll give it a go.
Also, just to update, my iMac cursor seems to glitch a little bit less now. It seems that at least ONE of my problems may have been caused by sitting my iPhone upon my WACOM tablet. The tablet must receive some sort of disruption from having my phone on it - and removing it seems to remedy a fraction of my mouse-jumping problems - if only for a meanwhile.
The mouse cursor still does jump around on its own occasionally, and the other mouse problems do persist - so this must not be the only culprit for my array of problems.

  • Controlling Startup Using the Keyboard ande Mouse

In answer to an earlier post, I was given a method for switching startup disks at startup via the keyboard. Hold the control key down while starting.
That particular startup key combination is not among the listed combinations in the apparently incomplete article on the Apple support site: Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts:
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75459>
Go figure. How many others did they leave out, I wonder... holding the mouse button down on startup to open the CD drive is not listed, either.
Does anyone have any idea where there is a complete list? TIA

    Hi, Roger!
Some keyboard shortcuts aren't universal and don't work with all Mac models, like the Startup Manager (Option key during startup). Perhaps some commands were intentionally omitted from that particular listing for such reasons, rather than being unintentionally missed.
Here are more/other key commands, if you're interested:

  • How can I get mouse pressed and mouse released positions on the desktop whi

    Hello All,
I am generating a Frame using Swing API. My requirement is I need to capture the mouse pressed and mouse released positions, whenever user drags the mouse on desktop region (i.e. outside of the Frame). I require these points to find the rectangle region user has generated starting from mouse pressed to mouse released position. I need to pass that rectangle to Robot class in order to capture that desktop region.
Can anybody help me out how can I achieve this using java on MAC, Linux and Windows platforms?
    Thanks in advance.

Just want to know the hint how it can be achieved so that I can move further on that lines.
Your thoughts ?They use JNI with the OS API.

  • Desktop and startup shortcuts produce security warning

I have a laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro with all updates installed. It's a domain member and the primary user was using redirected folders which worked well. Due to other reasons, the user's account was removed from the OU linked to with the redirected folders
GPO. open file security warning The GPO was setup for Desktop and My Documents so that when the policy was removed the files would revert to the local PC. For some odd reason the Favorites was not that way but configured to leave them on the server. I discovered
that only after the user's account had been moved out of that OU and the laptop rebooted and the user logged in.
So the user got her desktop and documents folders back just fine. But even though I changed the GPO to revert the Favorites back to the local PC of course it didn't even after I rebooted a few more times. So when the Favorites icon in IE was clicked,
favo0rites were still pointing to the server. I had to go through the registry and change the entries for that user's profile to point to the proper folder on the local PC.
However after I did that then something else showed up. Now when she clicks on the IE shortcut which is pinned to the taskbar or any application shortcut on the desktop or when she logs in and the startup program run, they all produce the Open File - Security
Warning box so she has to click OK for each one. I've tried looking up this problem but none of the fixes work for this case or I'm not going to lower the IE security.
Oddly, the Microsoft Office shortcuts pinned on the taskbar don't produce the security window but open up the program. It only seems to happen with shortcuts to programs that I create. Also I can take those shortcuts, copy them to another folder outside
of the user's profile and there is no security warning. So it's only within the profile that this happens.
Anyone have an idea what is wrong and how to fix it? I don't see how my changing the path to the Favorites folder in a few places in the registry could have done this but I don't see what else since it didn't occur until after I made the registry changes.
    Jonathan

Why not use RegShot to capture registry changes after favorites folder was modified.
