Desktop Background autochange from iPhoto Album

Is there a way to enable the "Change picture" field when using iPhoto (5.0.4 build 263) albums as the source of the image. The field is enabled when a specifc folder is selected, but my albums usually span multiple folders, and I'd rather not keep two copies of my images.

HI, Craig.
The "Change Picture" checkbox and options do not apply to any of the iPhoto-related choices "below-the-line" in the column where you select the collection from which you choose a desktop picture in the System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop (or Screen Saver) tab.
To use Change Picture on photos in your iPhoto Library, you have to select the album or the individual images within iPhoto, then select Share > Desktop. See "iPhoto 5 Help: Making a photo your desktop picture." You'll then see a folder called "iPhoto Selection" above the line in the column containing selections. Change Picture will be selected by default and you can adjust the interval, etc.
Good luck!

trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.
if i clear the book so that it is all blanks and then try to load in the pictures i have it loses the chronology of the pictures that i had established in the album.
is there a way to import photos into an ibook template and keep the original order of the photos without having to do them one at a time?
also, is there a way to insert a photo rather than just dragging it? i have tried the cut and paste funciton but it doesn't seem to work, the target site doesn't seem to register with iphoto.
    many thanks for your help.

Photos are added to book in chronological order.  So if you want to add them to a book in the order you have placed them manually in an album do the following:
1 - select all the photos in the album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option as shown here. Select any date and add 1 minute between photos.
3 - select just one photo from the album and create a book from it.
4 - in the book click on the Options button ➙ Book Settings button and make sure the checkbox for Auto-layout pages is unchecked.
5 - drag the album with your book photos onto the book icon and they will be imported into the Photos tray of the book in your pre-determined order but not into the pages themselves.

  • Albums missing from iPhoto albums folder

I have just noticed that whenever I create a new album in iPhoto, it does not get put into the pictures>iPhoto Library>albums file. It does not seem to be anywhere when doing a search in finder, although the album is on the iPhoto window. I have older albums, but no newer ones. I like to be able to find photos in albums this way when moving to Photoshop. Any idea where they are and why they are not being created in this file? I cannot find any preferences that would have had them moved and like I said, can't seem to find them anywhere.

New? About 2005 with v5 of the application.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Pics from iPhoto Albums not all showing in iPhone tab in iTunes

I am trying to sync several of my iPhoto albums with my iPhone. With most of my albums when I click on the photo tab in iTunes, it shows WAY less pictures than are in the real album. Does anyone know what could be causing this or how to fix it? I really want all pics from the albums I choose to move to phone.

Apparently sometimes, for various reasons (replacement of a track in the Store with another copy, slight changes in the release identification, etc.) the link between the track and your Purchase History can break, which will result in the track not appearing as eligible for iTunes Plus upgrade even though it exists as Plus in the Store.
Contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form at the bottom of the Purchase Issues FAQ web page (there is no category specifically for this issue, so I'd suggest just picking one under the Purchases - problem area) and explain the problem to them. It may take a couple of email exchanges to get past the "form" email responses, but eventually they should work out a solution for you. You may need to provide the track name, artist and order number so they can confirm the original purchase.
    Regards.

  • Setting duration of multiple photos imported from iPhoto albums

in iMovie 5, i had no problem importing the photos from my iPhoto albums, and adjusting the 'Photo Settings' to what i needed, about 0:05 or 0:06. It seems in iMovie 6, that is no longer possible. Other posts here have mentioned setting of 0:03 or 0:11, but if not, it will default to some other value.
Anyway, in iMovie 5, i had no problem changing the duration to play each picture to the value i wanted, typically selecting all the photos in the project, and moving the slider bar or entering the exact value i wanted (0:00:05). That's not possible in iMovie 6, as far as i can tell. The only way i've found is to select each photo individually, 'get info', and set the value. The project is thousands of photos from 2 webcams of a building construction, creating a time-lapse video. I'm not about to select each of 25k photos to input a value...
I've seen the mention of using QuickTime Pro to do something similar. Is that the only option, or is there a way to do this with iMovie6. We only bought iLife '06 to complete the project (and upgraded, including updating all iPhoto albums & iMovie projects to newer versions), as iMovie 5 was not able to handle the large # of photos.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    - me

However, dragging the 5 photos to the clip area, they go back to that same 9:29 default...
Very strange. Instead of dragging the photos, try clicking the Apply button in the Photo Settings window.
That probably won't work. Something is causing iMovie to "stick" at 9:29. Drag the duration slider to a time less than 9:29 and import an image. Then save the project. Now do the routine I described earlier. It might start working.
If still no luck, quit iMovie and trash the iMovie preference file. It's located in your UserName/Library/Preferences folder. It's called "com.apple.iMovie.plist".
It contains the last Ken Burns settings. Discarding the preference file will force it return to a new default duration setting. One that works, hopefully. Then do the routine I described earlier.
If it still doesn't work, something is messing up iMovie. Rule out the problems descrbed here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1852869#1852869
Problems "talking" to iPhoto can cause iMovie to fail to locate the image, but it shouldn't affect the duration.

  • How do I transfer photos from iphoto album to my ipad

How do I transfer photos from my iphoto album on my Imac to my ipad

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Importing video'f from IPHOTO albums

I am trying to create a new movie. I have downloaded videos to I photo and have saved in an album. How do I import into I Movie?

It turns out that the Flip4Mac software which I recently installed was the problem. Someone from the iPhoto forum told me to move the Flip4Mac components from the QuickTime folder in HD/Library to the desktop, then restart the computer. That solved the problem. Now importing into iMovie works fine.

  • TS3989 transferring photos from iPhoto album to photo stream

I am using Mac OS lion version 10.7.5 and iphoto version '11 9.4.3 (720.91).  I have an existing album of photos that I would like to transfer to photostream so that I can share those photos with friends and family.  I "select all" for the photos in the album and then click on share with photostream, but none of the photos are appearing in photostream.  Any tips on how I can make this process happen and share these photos?

For Shared Photo Streams you need to be running 120.8.2 or later.  With 10.7.5 all you can use is Photo Streams between your own Mac devices, i.e. Macs and mobile devices.

  • IWeb pages from iPhoto albums are empty

I've set up a website using iWeb and iPhoto. Whenever I try to add a Photo page, iWeb goes through its process and tells me it's publishing the page. When it tells me the page is published and I go to visit it, there are no pictures on it - just the blank page. Other pages on the site are fine, including one with a quicktime movie which uploaded without a problem. I've deleted pages that are blank and tried to get new ones to post but the same thing happens. Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks

Is your library working normally otherwise? Can you export pics in the normal way, for instance?

how do you import photos from iPhoto albums on the mac to lightroom 5

Have you used the built-in migration plug-in? I'm not sure how LR handles iPhoto albums or events. there have been several reports indicating varying levels of success or otherwise, with import.
See my comments on this similar thread which also has a link to users comments on the LR journal blog.

  • Changing Background issue with iPhoto

So I'm trying to change my background but I'm running into problems with choosing from iPhoto Albums. The problem is not in my picture files because I am able to copy pictures into my Pictures Folder and apply them as my background as normal through the Desktop & Screen Saver utility in System Preferences. The problem is in how system preferences identifies my iPhoto albums. Clicking on an album in the Desktop utility loads the pictures from that album, but when you click on a picture from that album, the desktop goes to a default solid blue background. I've tried deleting and reimporting those pictures in my iPhoto album but that hasn't worked either. As I said though, the pictures can be selected from the Pictures folder in the desktop utility, just not iPhoto albums.
Anyone have any idea of what I could do?

    Hi,
Lots of people have had the same problem (myself included). See http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7302321#7302321
It turns out that if you choose NOT to copy your photos into the iPhoto library on import (Preferences->Advanced), then the Desktop & Screensaver utility cannot display them. The thumbnails you see in the dialog are the thumbnails found in /iPhoto Library/Data. If you only have aliases in your /iPhoto Library/Originals folder, selecting iphoto events/albums won't work. I tested this by copying the original JPEGs from one event into the /iphoto library/Originals folder and then that event worked perfectly as desktop backgrounds.
I am not aware of any fix for this problem other than copying your original photos into the Iphoto library folder and selecting "Copy items to the iPhoto library" in the iPhoto Advanced preferences for future imports.
Hopefully Apple will include a fix for this glitch in a Leopard update soon. It certainly would be nice to be able to use all the features of what is otherwise a fantastic OS!

  • Unable to sync photos from iPhoto

Got an 8GB iPod Touch yesterday. I can sync everything except my photos from iPhoto. When I go to the Photo tab in iTunes, I place a tick in the check-box that says "Sync photos from:" and then I select iPhoto from the Combo-box. There are 2 radio buttons but only "All photos and albums" is available... "Selected Albums" is greyed out. The box below the radio buttons is also grey and has no entries.
If I try to sync "All photos and albums" I get an error message on my computer that reads: "The iPod [iPod name] cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-50)."
Software updates have all been applied, I have restored my iPod, have verified and fixed file permissions, etc. I have rebuilt the iPhoto library (Command-Option). Both iTunes and iPhoto have been working fine, with no other problems. I am using iLife '08 so I am using iPhoto '08 (version 7.1 (347)).
Has anyone any experience with the problem? I'm thinking that my next step is to reinstall iPhoto/iTunes but I would much rather not have to do that... any suggestions?
    Regards,
    Bill
P.S. I can sync photos from my desktop, just not from iPhoto '08.
P.P.S. My 5th gen video iPod can sync photos from my iPhoto library!

    Hi Damon,
Thanks for the update and the suggestion of trying a new user account... I don't know why that didn't occur to me. Well, you will not be too surprised to hear that with a new user account the photos synced no problem.
That leaves me with an iPhoto library rebuild on my hands. The Apple provided rebuild didn't resolve my issue when I tried it last week. So I will need to do a manual rebuild... something which I have done once before but vowed never to do again as I lost hundreds of hours of work organising and tagging my photos... something which I have invested considerable time in recovering and don't want to lose them again.
With Leopard around the corner, I will be performing a clean install of the new OS on a fresh HDD within the month, so I am going to recreate my iPhoto library that way... rather than invest time now only to see it wasted later.
Thanks once again for the pointers to those Apple docs... most useful.
    Kind regards,
    William

  • Suggestions for library management in Aperture, coming from iPhoto

    A little background....
I have been an iPhoto user for a number of years, using a Sony W1. Recently, I have upgraded to a new Canon Powershot G7, and with this almost DSLR-like camera, am finding that I am taking WAY more pictures, and getting better pictures too! The faster shutter speeds, and the excellent continuous modes on the G7 (and a 2 gig memory card) are meaning that even shooting my 13 month oldd son, I have way more images to look through.
My current workflow was simply import into iPhoto, basic edits w/ iPhoto, and use PSE 4 for more significant edits. I am trying the 30-day demo of Aperture, and so far, even though the UI is immense and somewhat intimdating, I am beginnng to learn the basics with various web resources, and Apple's Quicktime tutorials, and I like the robustness of the program as well.
My question(s) are as follows. I did the iPhoto import into Aperture, but now am not "thrilled" with my existing library structure in APerture, from this massive import.. Having the separate iPhoto Library folder in Aperture, and all the albums/rolls, just doesn't seem very well manageable. I ended up cancelling/deleting Previews, because of how long it was taking (10gig iPhoto import) I feel I just use "Projects" more, and then selectively set Previews for projects, and export to iPhoto or elsewhere. I guess I am asking for some advise from someone coming from iPhoto albums, who has not necessary used lots of metadata within iPhoto, rather just static albums. I pretty sure I want to use Aperture Library managed mode (not referenced) and am willing to export out of Aperture to iPhoto for the wife to use.
I am willing to redo the import selectively if I had some suggestions from you Aperture experts . Currently, I have been organizing pictures of my kid(s) by month (at least in his 1st year), and creating separate albums (in iPhoto) for special occasions. Maybe with the organization powers of Aperture, there is a better way..
Open to any and all suggestions...thanks for listening.
