Desktop background doesn't show up

I have a new Mini with 2GHz Core 2 Due, 2G RAM, and 320G HD. I use it as a headless (no keyboard, mouse, or monitor) music server running iTunes. I control it through VNC client (I tried both JollysFastVNC and Chicken of the VNC). Screen resolution is set at 1024x768. The problem is that the Desktop background picture never showed in the VNC client window, no matter what picture I chose. More importantly, Cover Flow in iTunes doesn't show either; the top half of the Cover Flow window is always blank but the bottom half works fine. List and Grid view work without problem, however.
I really don't know what is the right forum to post this so I just start here. Does anyone have any idea on the cause and how to fix it?

Hmm, dunno what to tell you then. I've got an older Mini running headless and have controlled it with Chicken of the VNC and with Leopard's screen sharing. Both work fine (though I've never tried iTunes' cover flow with it... it's not a media server, it's being run as a calendar and FileMaker server). So I suspect you may have some odd, subtle system problem.

Desktop Background doesn't show adjustments

I adjusted an image, sharpened, straightened etc. Went into system preferences to use it as my desktop background, found the correct image but the adjustments weren't portrayed in the background.
I have aperture set to share previews etc but it doesn't change anything. I have to export the image in order to use it as the background.
Any help is appreciated.

CC Desktop app doesn't show up after install

I recently reinstalled the OS on my computer (Win7, 64 bit) and now I'm having problems getting CC back up and running. I've downloaded CreativeCloudSet-up.exe and run through the install process, but CC never shows up on my desktop, and I can't find it anywhere in my start menu. Checking the PDApp.log file I see a single error:
Setting values for registry Key SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Adobe Creative Cloud
If I try to reinstall I get a message saying: "Installer failed to initialize."
I've tried renaming the OOBE folder and going through the entire process again, but get the exact same results.
CC works fine on my laptop, and it used to work fine on this computer (prior to me reinstalling the OS), so not sure what the problem is. I have an urgent project I'm trying to work on, so any help would be appreciated.

UPDATE: After some additional searching I came across the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, which fixed my install problem. Everything seems to be working as expected now.

Creative Cloud desktop app doesn't show apps/can't update

Hello,
I am trying to update my current Creative Cloud apps, specifically Premiere Pro CC to the latest release.
I have installed the Creative Cloud desktop app which launches the Home tab but when I click on the Apps tab
I don't get any apps listed. I click on the Reload button but nothing happens.
I have a solid internet connection.
The error says: Download error. Please retry to try again or contact customer support.
Any tips on how to solve this?

Group Policy for Desktop background applied but showing black desktop in the client end

Trying to set wallpaper in group policy but it's coming up blank.We have windows 2008 and 2012 server.most of the computer is windows 7.

Besides, can the users access the wallpaper?
If this issue just happens to Windows 7, we can try applying the hotfix in the following article.

Adobe Content Viewer desktop preview doesn't show the animations

Hello everybody,
I built a Folio and wanted to preview it on the desktop. The audio I inbuilt functions but no animation does. In the InDesing animation preview it does work though. Where's the mistake?

InDesign animations are not supported. The preview panel in CS5 and CS5.5 has finally been appropriately named in CS6 to the SWF Preview panel.

Desktop Manager Doesn't show "Email Settings" icon

I'm using 4.7.0.37 version for a new BB Storm. I'm trying to limit the emails I receive and the instruction manual says to click on Email settings. When I look closely at the website page, I can see seven icons, one of which is Email settings. My Desktop Manager only loaded five settings and Email settings is not one of them.
Can anyone out there assist? Thank you.

Ahh okay, unfortunatly Desktop Manager will not help with the Spam or allow you to setup extra folders and redirection. The folder redirection it talks about is for BlackBerry Enterprise server. There are a couple of things you can try however:
1) The best way to combat the spam would be to setup filters on cox.net itself to direct the email from the inbox, since that is the only place the BlackBerry Internet service checks for email.
2) You could login to your BlackBerry Internet Service account and try setting up filters for your integration there. Here is a KB explaining how to: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB04558

SWF playing corrupts desktop background

Using FF 3.6.13 on Fedora 13, KDE
When playing a SWF file in FF, the last viewed image corrupts the desktop background. Wherever another application has a white color, the latent image from the last SWF shows through.
As a test, I set the desktop background to solid white. The screen image can be seen at http://www.wrlee.com/Pictures/CorruptedBackground.jpeg This image was taken with a digital camera since the KSnapshot tool does not pick up the corrupted desktop background that is "showing through" the application. The picture shows the FireFox screen when I was typing this message.
Looking at the picture you can see the ghost image of the last SWF I viewed when I visited a website. (That site was http://www.sunbrella.com/ )
This is a very annoying bug since YouTube images are SWF, and SWF is used more and more in websites that I visit.
Logging off and back in (i.e., restarting the KDE window system) cures the problem until I stumble across the next SWF file and it corrupts the background again.

I have the same issue with the latest Shockwave Flash 10.2 r152 player on Linux.<br />
I can see the ghosted and crashed Flash player in Firefox if I change the background color to black (Edit > Preferences > Content > Colors).
I have reverted to Flash 10.1 r102 (10.1.102.65) because of this.<br />

Desktop background disappears, Mission Control doesn't work correctly

Sometimes it happens that my desktop background completely dissappears, and Mission Control stops working as well.
It seems to happen when I open a new window in a fullscreen app (like Safari), and while it's opening I switch to another space.
Whenever this happens, my desktop changes to the Dashboard background, and Mission Control doesn't show the other spaces anymore (but you can see active windows in your main space). I've added pictures below.
I can still swipe between spaces, my dock still works and all apps still work in all spaces.
Any way to fix this without rebooting? To avoid this happening (apart from me being more patient)?

I am experiencing the same thing as most of us, exactly as explained by - Acid_Raccoon.
UK-Max - This is not just a specific problem involving external screens. The dissappearing wallpaper, and loss of function of mission control (do not show spaces, but you can click in empty area where it should be located and it actually works as normal) occurs also when there is no
external screen input involved - You have to restart computer for it to return to normal. As a matter of fact, I am experiencing it right now for the 10th time in 1 week period, and it´s quite annoying. I would guess more than just a few people are experiencing this, and as postmechanical mentioned about having a brand new computer - this shouldn´t occur, and if so should get a fix immediately.
Over time, I have experiencing other system problems produced from installing OS lion. Sure it deliver a few smart, and smooth features, but since more and more bugs are discovered (and not fixed by apple), I am considering returning to snow leopard. For instance, sometimes when my computer goes into screensaver, it can shift to a picture of pixels (black&white) in 4:3 screen ration. This has never occurred before installing Lion. Another thing which is extremely annoying is that since installing lion, my computer refuses to go to sleep when I close my lid. Nothing happens, and it just stays on. I have to manually select in apple-menu to sleep.
I really hope Apple take these notes people have mentioned in this forum (and others) seriously, and fix them. I really hope Apple show more custumer service-spirits, than Apple´s lack of hardware-quality. (I have owned 4 apple computers(1 powerbook G4, 1 macbook & 2 macbook pro), brand new, and 3 of them have experienced hardware-failure on more than one occasion in less than a year. The one that didnt required service was my powerbook G4 titanium, released in 2001, and kept going for 4 years straight without any problems.) (Actually, the last one experienced 3 times in-a-row mother-card failure). I only go for Apple´s products due to its smart and clean features (and seriously PC is not an alternative if you want to stay mentally healthy), but what I´ve been reading on multiple forums over the web, more than a few, experience occuring hardware problems with their Apple computer.
I guess this is the result of Apple trying to push for higher revenues. If Apple keep go in the same directions as it has been doing in the last 4-5 years it will be its doom, and loose the customers that once caught the Apple-wave due to it´s innovative and personal aspect, but most important - it´s superiour quality it once had! Apple´s products is quite expensive, and thus should be combined with its smart and innovative system, along with lasting quality. But if $ revenue is the only thing that keep Apple going nowdays, and produce smart product that is meant to last for only 2-3 years maximum, it is deeply disturbing and the company will loose track of what stevie was initially producing - clean, smooth system (just works, no migraine), with everlasting quality far seen in PC-world. Apple - please consider !

My external HD will not show up on my desktop anymore. I'm on macbook pro 13", OS 10.7. It doesn't show up in disc utilities, nor on another mac, nor on that mac's disc utility. I happened to restart the comp while the HD was connected.

I could re-format and do the back up all over again but then I need to find it first. Please, does anyone have any solution to this problem?

It sounds as though the external drive may have failed. There's nothing at all wrong with restarting your computer with the external drive connected -- that's a perfectly reasonable and normal thing to do, done by countless users every day without any ill effects.

On Windows Server 2012 R2 the "Show my desktop background on Start" is grayed out

As shown below, the new 8.1/2012R2 function "Show my desktop background on Start" is not available on Windows Server 2012 R2.
I have tried multiple solutions:
- Activate OS (In Win 8.1 - the feature is unavailable when Win8.1 is not activated)
- Install Desktop Experience
- Playing with the registry key "Subkey: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Accent Entry:
MotionAccentId_v1.00
But no luck. Does anyone have a solution.
The reason why I need this is, that I am building a Remote Desktop solution, and here we want to give users the same experience as from their desktops.

inactive, I am starting a new one.
On windows server 2012 R2, under the taskbar properties, the option to display desktop background on start is disabled and I have not found a way to enable the same.
Please suggest, how this can be enabled.

You should take a look at this thread. They still haven't figured it out yet though, I don't believe it is possible at the moment on server 2012 even with desktop experience installed.

Went to my devices. Original iPad showed up,there In red and then he had me go,to apple website, download something and it said it could configure to my computer.

My external hard drive doesn't show up on my desktop screen

I have a 1TB external drive that connects by USB. I use it as a Time Machine and for other storage. It worked fine until a few weeks ago. Now, when I connect it, the drive starts spinning, but it doesn't show up on the desktop screen or in Disk Utility.
Other USB drives and devices work fine when plugged into either of my USB ports. Also, this particular 1TB drive works fine with my older MacBook. It's just that this particular external drive and this particular MacBook Pro don't seem to be working together.
Thoughts?

Does it show up in disk utility
remove and reconnect the USB connector on the drive end., check Finder > prefences > general ....is hard disks checked?
Have you used this HD on that Mac before?
Does this HD show in another machine/ Mac?

There are no ticking noises coming from the hard drive, and it lights up still, and i have tried replacing the cords, and restarting/shutting down the computer, and have tried it on a mac desktop also - same problem.
Any help would be great!!!

Try this on one of the Macs ...
Open a Finder window. From the menu bar click Finder > Preferrences
Select the General tab then select: Show External Disks
