??? Desktop can't see/configure wired AEBS (suddenly)

My setup:
---- = ethernet connection
) ) ) = wireless connection
Moto cable modem >--->AEBS (n)>--->Dual G5
)))) MacBook Pro (Santa Rosa)
)))) Airport Express (n)>--->Stereo System
Until a week ago, everything was wired/wireless heaven.
Both computers could see the AEBS and AEX in Airport Utility.
I could stream Airtunes and Pandora (using Airfoil) from the G5 to the AEX and the stereo.
I did not make any changes.
Suddenly the G5 cannot see the AEBS nor the AEX in Airport Utility.
Airtunes and Airfoil cannot see the AEX.
Internet IS still being passed to the G5, and MacBook Pro.
The MacBook Pro CAN see both the AEBS and the AEX, and configure them via Airport Utility.
File sharing works.
I have done multiple hard resets of both.
I have tried hooking the AEX to the wired network, and still the G5 cannot see/configure either one.
All the green lights on the AEBS ethernet ports are on.
I'd really like to get my streaming back.
Any suggestions, oh great Collective Wisdom?

Is it possible that your G5, which you believe to be using its ethernet connection to your AEBS as its primary network interface, has suddenly decided to use its Airport card and is connecting to a different (unsecured) wifi base station belonging to, say, a neighbor? That would give it Internet access but make it unable to see your AEBS/AEX, possibly.
Just a thought - I've seen my network settings do some pretty strange things on their own.
Anyway, the way I would troubleshoot this would be to rebuild my network from scratch: power down the laptop and AEX, and start by trying to get CableModem -> AEBS -> G5 working, then add the laptop. Once you have that run-of-the-mill configuration back in action, add back in your streaming stuff.

  • Printing From iBook To Printer on Vista Desktop, Can't see shared printers

Printing From iBook To Printer on Windows Vista Desktop, Can't see shared printer on a Vista machine from a Mac, although Windows notebooks find it immediately.
I have previously always had success sharing printers on Windows XP machines with my iBooks. . However upon installing Vista RC1 on my desktop I find I can no longer find the printer in the Mac's printer setup utility. When I dual boot back to XP everything works fine, but on the same machine when I boot into Vista I am unble to see the printers. The Mac printer setup utility finds the Vista machine on the network, but the printers are never visible. Is their some secret or channge in Vista that prevents Mac's running , in my case,Tiger 10.4.8 from seeing a shared printer on a computer running Vista
On the Vista machine, if I boot into XP The printer is shared and Windows notebooks can print to it, but neither of my iBooks can see the Printers when Vista is running.

That might have been the situation for the beta's and first RC's, but I have a final build. Plus the fact that other Windoze notebooks see the printer on the Vista box just fine leads one to believe it is a mac/Vista specific issue.
If anyone actually has experience with a MAC and Vista , I would appreciate hearing from you.
    thanks,

  • Desktop can't see laptop after Leopard upgrade

    Hi,
I have a G5 desktop, a MacBook Pro laptop and a PC on our work network. My laptop can connect to the G5, the G5 can connect to the PC, but the G5 can't even see the laptop since I upgraded the laptop to Leopard. Whassup with that? Anyone have ideas?
    Thanks.

I have had the same exact problem. After waiting on hold for Apple Support for 45 mins I was instructed to do the following:
    1. Restart the computer with the Leopard disk in and holding down the 'c'
    2. Proceed thru the installation questions as normal
    3. Choose custom install
    4. Select 'Archive and Install, not Preserving...
According to tech support, this should work. The other solutions (changing the password at the root) or other things have not.
Apple Tech support made a mistake and told me to install the upgrade again (instead of going the custom route), so I will try these instructions in about 3 hours when this upgrade fails again and post my findings

  • Can't see my sata disk suddenly.

I used to have it mounted on /home over my xfs disk(which also had a /home, but that shouldn't matter right!?). The sata disk was/is a ext3 disk. And i'm sorry but this is all i can tell:
    1. i got a ext3 error spitted out on console.
    2. i think, a sudo fuser -km /dev/sdb
    3. sudo umount /dev/sdb
Then i reebooted and suddenly /dev/sdb doesn't exist in /dev...
edit: found a log for my ext3 errors: http://pastebin.archlinux.org/1236
Id the disk is the culprit, which tests should i run on it to see what's wrong with it. I suppose i could run some tests with some programs even though i can't even see it in /dev.
I'm running -fallback standard arch kernel, since that's the only one i got working. (For history and perhaps more clues pertaining to this problem see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=29132)

  • Airport Utility can't see configured base stations

I have two MABs.  One with AU can see base + AX and other cannot.  The one that cannot is running Mountain Lion and the working one is running Lion.  Both have AU 6.1.  Base station is at 7.6.1.  I can get on the internet, but cannot see or manage AE/AX.  In addition, iPad app works fine.
Configuration is Airport Extreme 802.11N (5TH GEN) and two (2)
    I have done the following:
    * Hard reset AE & AX and reconfigured entire network
    * Rebooted with USB ethernet cable plugged into AE
    * Turned off IPV6 via CLI
    * Removed keychain entries for Airport (where possible)
All systems are on 192.168 home network.  Connection to internet works fine.  Everything else works but this one application.  I have tried 6.1 (native to ML) and unpackaged 5.6.1 and ran binary and neither one works.
I can manually manipulate and update the AE using the "configure other" option via the AU app.  But, I still cannot see it after that.
    Any other ideas?

Sorry, but I can connect to the Airport Extreme and manually configure it as well as booted my laptop while plugged into the Airport Extreme without success.  Mind is foggy after dealing with these for a few hours.

  • Desktop can not see all images in aperture project

When trying to change the background picture desktop lists my aperture projects but only displays a subset (5 of 114) of the images in one project. Also have 2 of 8, 152 of 152, and 0 of 12 in different projects.

It's possible you don't have Previews for the "missing" images (Aperture shares the Preview, not the full image).
What happens if you update every image in the Project's Preview?
To update all the JPEG previews in a project
In the Library inspector, Control-click the project whose JPEG previews you want to update, then choose Update Previews from the shortcut menu.

  • AirPort Utility can't see either AEBS or AirPort Express using either comp.

I have an AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) and an AirPort Express (APE). The dsl connects to the AEBS via ethernet (in the first slot), and the AEBS connects to the desktop via ethernet (in the second slot; it has no AirPort card). The PowerBook (PB) connects to the network via its AirPort card, and the APE is used to extend the network range.
All of this worked as of last night.
This morning when I woke the PB, it wouldn't connect to the network automatically. I tried to connect manually, but it wouldn't accept the password. (Maybe I'd forgotten, when's the last time I had to enter it?) I went to the desktop to set up the AEBS to reset the password. Both the AEBS and AirPort Express showed up on AirPort Utility (AU) on the desktop before doing so.
After resetting the password, neither showed up in AU. (I suppose it's not surprising that the APE wouldn't, but the AEBS is connected via ethernet, and the ethernet is working or I couldn't connect here as set up.) I get the message that AU can't detect any Apple wireless devices. I rescanned several times with no luck. And I have pressed the reset button on the AEBS to no avail.
I also can't see either the AEBS or the APE with the PB, which does have an AirPort card, as I mentioned.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Theirry, I had (among all the other things I'd done) already pushed the reset button for a little while, but that didn't work. So, not knowing what else to do, I pushed it and held it while I counted to ten three times, and that worked. Probably one could get away with less.
After that, I had to start over again with the AEBS on AU, but I gave it the same network name and the password I thought I remembered, and the APE rejoined it automatically.
    I hope that helps.

  • Airport Utility can't see all my devices after new cable modem

Everything worked fine until I got a new cable modem from Comcast—it's a Cisco DPC3000. Now after firing that up, I can get to the web on my Mac Pro but my LAN seems to be missing. Airport Utility can see the AEBS (Base Station) that's connected to the cable modem but it can't see a second AEBS that's in my wife's office (wired to the Base Station in Bridge mode), or an Airport Express that's hooked up to my music system, or a second Airport Express that's used to extend the WIFI to a second bedroom. All these things worked fine previously—I could see them all in Airport Utility and I could access all those devices.
Any ideas will be much appreciated—been dealing with this most of the day.
    Thanks
    Peter

Well what do you know...after a week, it just magically decides to work, without even using Airport Utility.
Boy are these Airports touchy....and unreliable.
I still want to know: What makes these things drop in and out???

  • Office 2010 Outlook Desktop/Office 365 Issues-Cannot connect to the desktop in Outlook, Can't see more than 6 old messages in Office 365

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm having an issue all of a sudden with connecting staff members to Outlook 2010 desktop version. Our super kept having issues, so we disconnected her from the desktop, and tried to reconnect her. I wish I wouldn't have
done that, now I can't get connected back up. We thought we would login to the web version so that she could check her e-mails, which is fine. She can get new e-mails just fine, but she can only see 6 old emails, and she has 100's of old e-mails. Someone please
help, I'm about ready to pull my hair out!!! Very frustrating. :)
    Thank you in advance,
    Ang

    Hi Ang
So this is an Office 365 (Exchange-based) email account? Do you mean you've deleted the specific account from Outlook client and tried to re-add it again?
"now I can't get connected back up" - At which step will it fail? Any error messages when things go wrong? Please first check the account settings that you've entered, and make sure they are correct.
"She can get new e-mails just fine, but she can only see 6 old emails, and she has 100's of old e-mails."
    - With web mail portal, you are connected to your mail server directly. If you are referring to the web-based mail portal here, then these old mail messages probably have been deleted from the server.

  • Can not see wireless TM in disk utility or desktop.

Am I running a TM Airport (router) it runs great, I love everything about it and the backups have no issues.
But I wanted to partition my 500mb drive on my TM yet for some reason I can not see the drive either on my desktop or in disk utility. Is there some setting I need to change somewhere else to be able to view this wireless drive and configure it? I looked via Airport Utility and the only option there is to archive or erase it, at least that can see it.
When the backup starts I do see a mounted drive show up.
    Any ideas?

It does not show up because when I am not backing up, it gets disconnected...

  • Home sharing can't see my desktop PC

I have some video files in iTunes on my desktop PC and I used to have no problems using home sharing.  Recently, the home sharing connection has being going down a fair amount and now my Apple TV can't see my desktop thru home sharing.  I've replaced the Apple TV but that didn't help.  As a test I installed iTunes on my laptop last night and I had no issues using hom sharing on it, so it seems the problems lies with something on my desktop.  I don't believe I've made any changes recently and my laptop should be conigured the same, only differernce is laptop is over WiFi and desktop is over wired ethernet connect (as is Apple TV) but that shouldn't matter.
    Rather frustrating.

    >only differernce is laptop is over WiFi and desktop is over wired ethernet connect (as is Apple TV)
    >but that shouldn't matter.
You would think that but there are a number of posts about pople getting MUCH better performance on WiFi that ethernet.  Which is completely  backwards, but it is happening for some people after the last two updates.  It is something I am seeing too.  Try having ATV use WiFi.

  • Can't see external drive on desktop

Verify that you OS configured to display hd icons on the desktop.
    finder > preferences.
    try a different
    -- usb port
    -- usb cable
    -- computer
    Bakup you ituns library.
How old is this drive. I greater than 5 years I'd say it would seem like a hardware problem with the drive.
