Desktop changing itself

Hello. I am having trouble with system preferences. I have an image set as my desktop but it keeps changing itself. I do not have the "Change Picture" box checked, yet the image is randomly changing itself. Do you know how I can stop this from happening?
Thank you.

I have the same exact issue. I cannot find anything to help me on this...were you able to figure it out?

  • OS X 10.4.6 Powerbook G4 - SMTP & Pop User Name is changing ITSELF!

Just as the subject says, I have several accounts in mail. It seems like every couple of days some of my accounts seem to change their outgoing mail server and the pop user name by itself. The outgoing mail server, which should be mail.clippergroupent.com is changing itself to something like mail.sbc-global.com (my DSL provider). Also, the username, usually: [email protected] changes itself to name%clippergroupent.com.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    OK, first try the following:
Open Preferences from within the Mail program and note the exact settings for your email accounts.
    Quit Mail
Drag the following file to the desktop:
    your home directory / Library / Preferences / com.apple.mail.plist
    Restart Mail
Re-install your mail settings for at least one account
These actions will not interfere with your mailboxes, it will simply create a new plist preference file when you re-start Mail.
If that did not help, you can place back the .plist file so you have all your account settings back.

  • Mouse problem and desktop changes

When left clicking my mac mouse (wired) my desktop changes to widgetwindow  and vice versa. This problem suddenly started by itself.
Pointing and clicking as should be no longer possible.
    My trackpad works fine though.
Anyone can help me out on this?

    Hello SNUTS,
Your mouse settings may have been inadvertently changed. Take a look at the article "Troubleshooting Mighty Mouse and determining expected behavior" for some tips about the features of the Mighty Mouse. I have attached a picture of what the default setting typically are:
This Preference Pane is found under  > System Preferences... > Mouse

  • My desktop changed the file names

My desktop changed the name of the files that were in. Ex: the name of the disk that I use for time machine was "TIME MACHINE".
Now it appears as "to8jmt". Also other files had the name changed
This isn´t the first time it happens.
    Does anyone have a clue
    Many thanks

  • [Suggestion]: I've got a suggestion on the multi desktop changing screen...

    Hi,
I've got two suggestions on the Multi-Desktop Changing's Screen (WinKey + TAB):
    - It would nice if you guys could add shortcuts keys to access the diferents desktop created by the user;
    - It would be awsome if we could change apps from desktop by draging the app's miniature to the new wanted desktop.
    Gracefully,

  • Wallpaper of additional desktops change after reboot

This is the first time I have encountered this issue and I can't seem to find any solutions online. The problem is that every time i relog or reboot my macbook pro the additional desktops change their wallpaper. The main desktop's wallpaper is unchanged though.
    Thankful for advice.

Actually, it worked for me but another wallpaper appeared this very morning.
It's not that the wallpaper changed, but I discovered that actually, my left screen has been "duplicated" on the right screen, hiding my setup on the following screenspace.
(does my explanation make any sense?)
Here is a screenshot to explain a bit better what I mean:
So I just have to delete the duplicate to find my setup back, but it's still not a viable solution.
Also, I looked for the files I deleted to see, here is what I found:
I hope we can find a good solution, thank you for your help guys.

  • I know exactly what my restrictions passcode is meant to be (I have even written it down) but it has strangely changed itself. I cannot delete apps anymore.

I know exactly what my restrictions passcode is meant to be (I have even written it down) but it has strangely changed itself. I cannot delete apps anymore and it has been getting on my nerves. I am worried that I will lose my purchased films and books and my pages documents if I perform a factory restore. What do I do?

To remove the Restrictions passcode you will need to either...

  • FCP sequence changed itself from 16:9 to 4:3

Editing one long clip into a sequence happily enough, and all of a sudden the one clip i'm using has changed itself to a 4:3 clip. I have checked and double checked all the sequence settings and preferences, but cannot get it back to 16:9.
What on earth is going on?! Can anyone help please??
    Thanks

Select the clip in the browser and type cmd+9 to open it's settings. Turn on the anamorphic checkbox. This should make any DV material turn to 16:9.

  • File name changes itself

When doing a "Save As" from a couple of applications, I occasionally have a problem where the file name seems to automatically change itself to the name of some other file I happen to click on as I navigate to the location. That is, I have a file open in, say, Preview, named image1.pdf. I do a Save As, and navigate to a new folder to save the file. But somewhere along the way of navigating to that folder, if I click on a file named wrongdocument.doc, my image loses its original name and becomes wrongdocument.pdf.
It happens fairly regularly from several different computers. It only seems to take the name of files, not folders. It only happens if I have the file name highlighted -- but it's highlighted by default so it often happens without my even noticing. It happens from a couple of different applications, so I presume this is a system Save As issue, as opposed to having to do with any specific application.
Is this normal? Is there a way to turn that feature off? I've never actually wanted it to do this, so I can't imagine any inconvenience by turning this off.

    Please,
You should be pleased. Such enhancement to the MacOSX interface make it ever closer to Microsoft's. Just remember to press the return key, should you later edit the filename in the info window.

  • ITunes volume changes itself / Can't Force Quit.

My iTunes volume changed itself to a third of the way up, and now I can't change it. If I move the volume slider it just automatically goes back to where it was. I also can't force quit iTunes! It even won't let me shut down because of it. Any ideas?

Open Activity Monitor in Application/Utilities. You can monitor your applications there to see how much CPU or real memory they are using. Selecting the CPU column will sort the highest on top for easy viewing. You can also force quit an application in Activity Monitor.
Another option to Force quit is to use the commands. Command-Option-Esc. This brings up a Force Quit window.
Since the symptoms affect many applications, I would first download and install the latest Apple combo updater. They install over the same version and will go back and refresh all files unlike an incremental updater that only adds new files. If the combo doesn't work, you might need to do an "Archive & Install".

  • Desktop changes on its own?

I am having an odd problem with my desktop changing images on its own. I go into System Preferences and select an image from iPhoto and the desktop changes to that for a bit and then the next thing I look again, it has changed back to the nebulla/cosmos shot. I change it to some other factory setting image like a nature shot or leaves from the plant folder and after a few minutes, I have the nebulla back again.

I'm not sure by what you mean by AD.
that means you are not bound to one so don't worry about that. I just wanted to make sure that your computer is not centrally managed in some way. right now I don't know what could be doing this. try clearing all caches with YASU

  • Dual Screen Desktop Change Timing Error

    Hi,
First a short background to my question:
I have a MacPro with 2 x 30 inch cinema displays on which I want to change the desktop images at certain intervals: every 5 seconds, every minute, every five minutes etc. I want to enjoy the full benifits and visual beauty of having a large image split over two screens, See example here:
    http://badtastic.com/temp/screens2.png
The images are of course split into 2 versions, a left & right version that are stored in correspondingly named "left" and "right" folders from which the right and left screen preferences access the images. Note the images are also named so that they left and right image are in the same order irrespective of folder.
For some unknown reason the internal timers for each desktop change / interval are no longer in sync which results in something looking like this:
    http://badtastic.com/temp/screens.png
    And now the question:
How does one reset or sync the timers in the desktop preferences so that the changing desktops sync up nicely again. Is there a script...a simple terminal command or trick?
Any help or input is highly appreciated.
    Kind Regards / Badtastic

some update last few weeks has broken xgamma (or x?) here  too.
In my case xf86-video-ati 6.12.99.git20091014-1 and xfwm4. I used to disable my notebook monitor with
    xrandr --output LVDS --off
and then correct the gamma of my external monitor using:
    xgamma -rgamma 0.95 -ggamma 0.99 -bgamma 1.18
Now if I issue the xgamma command before the xrandr command I get this output
    [user1@dell-notebook ~]$ xgamma -rgamma 0.95 -ggamma 0.99 -bgamma 1.18
    -> Red 1.000, Green 1.000, Blue 1.000
    <- Red 0.950, Green 0.990, Blue 1.180
But nothing visually changes. If I issue xgamma *after* xrandr x even crashes, but not always. in Xorg.0.log

  • The Name of my Hard Rive on the Desktop Changes randomly

For some reason, I find that the name of my Hard Rive changes. Right now it is named "9-99......9". I've tried to change the name, but it seems to change itself on its own.
There is no apparent affect on any of the saved information though. Does anyone have any thoughts/solutions?
    Thanks.

it doesn't really matter but the standard name is "Macintosh HD"
