Desktop colour gone awry

Hi, I hope someone can help me with a colour issue i have. About a week ago my desktop including dock icons became over saturated and contrasty. I have an eizo monitor that is correctly calibrated with colour navigator and within limits. I noticed the clown fish desktop image was much more saturated than normal and upon importing it straight into aperture 2.0 it showed up as normal leading me to think that my desktop and dock items are not gaining access to the colour profile. Any ideas?

Thanks, I have checked universal access and no changes need to be made also iI have run profile first aid and verified permissions but to no avail. Any ideas?

    I have a mail thread which has suddenly changed colour and the whole thread now has a brown background. It's only the one thread. All the rest are blue background. Does anyone have any idea what this means  or how to change it back to blue?

  • Desktop is Gone, Mail and Safari were reset and a host of other problems

    So, I opened my iMac G5 today and the first thing I noticed was that some of my widgets were gone, particularly all the ones that didn't come with the OS X installation (meaning the other ones I downloaded from different sites). And then I noticed that I couldn't access any of my mail when I looked at them in Mail. I was given an error message that read something like this: "you cannot view this message. it has not be downloaded from the server. you must go online". So anyway, I decided to shut down and turn my computer on again. And I was shocked to see that my desktop was gone, and my wallpaper had reverted back to the default wallpaper (but I was atleast able to find all the files that used to be on my desktop). And now, Mail has been reset (meaning, when I launch it, it asks me to set up a new account). iChat has been reset the same way as well. And for some very odd reason, my Safari browser has lost it's tabbed browsing ability, and I've lost all my bookmarks. I checked the version, and it says 2.0.4. Did I somehow revert back to on older version of Safari. So far, those are the only problems I've discovered. I'm terribly hesitant to turn my computer off again in fear that I might lose some more files for good.
    Anyway, I have an idea of what the culprit might be. I downloaded this program from VEOH.com and decided to uninstall it last night. It came with an "uninstall how to" that asked me to type some stuff in Terminal (I knew I should have just kept that **** program!). This is what it asked me to type:
    prompt> sudo /Applications/Veoh.app/Contents/Resources/uninstallveoh.sh
    And then Terminal asked for my admin password, and I hit the Return key. Would anyone know, if this is what could be causing me all these problems? I also recently installed Yahoo 3.0 Beta 1. It conflicts with Mail. I can't open Yahoo 3.0 when Mail is running.
    Also, I found the bookmarks.plist file for Safari. I'm wondering if I can somehow do something with this file so that I can get my old bookmarks back. Would really appreciate any help!

    Thanks for the reply! I've found all of my files (the ones that used to be on my old desktop), and I've been able to restore my bookmarks and all my old mail. Also, I just had to recheck "enable tabbed browsing" in Safari Preferences. I think I just figured out what I did wrong: I renamed my "home" folder. I was gonna change it back to it's original name, but I forgot to. Stupid me. So after restarting, I think it just moved all of my files into a new folder which I can still access by going to Macintosh HD >>> Users. All the files are there, including the widgets that I thought were missing. So now, I essentially have 4 folders under users, but I only have 3 user accounts. You think I can restore everything back to normal by just copying all of the old files back into my home folder again? But at any rate, I think I can live with having all my files just living in another folder. I lost my old "music", "pictures" and "movies" icons though (the ones at the left sidebar of the Finder window). Those are the only things I can't seem to find. So I just downloaded new icons.
    What's a good brand of external firewire drives? I'm thinking of getting a Maxtor OneTouch III. Would you recommend that?

    Spaces no longer exists in Mountain Lion. The replacement, Mission Control, has a different implementaion but allows similar results.

  • MBP15 Desktop Colours Inverted???

    Boss Man has been fighting this for about a week on his Mac Book Pro 15in
    He uses a external 20 LCD Display as Primary monitor, and it has been working FIne foe 3 months... now in the last week when he starts the MBP and his desktop flashes up... it automatically get inverted ie the desktop colours and menurs and dosk are normal for 1/5 a second then flick to an inverted colour scheme!. When Boss man plugs in his External monitor, both wscreen flick as monitors are refreshed and Ext now is Primary, but desktops are still have inverted colours.
    zapping the PRAM has no effect.
    Loggin off gives the Login screen with normal colours but when loggin back in the desktop colours are inverted again...
    So yesterday I did this fix... I created a new account and used that... well this works display colours do not invert :Yipie: but there is some time and pain involved when moving accounts due to the masses for files stored and permission that need to be set on folders etc.
    So to me this seems like some corrupted Diplay settings.
    My question is What display setting files do I trash to reset the Displays so If this happens agin It will be a 1 minute fix.

    OK my boss came back from a conference and when I asked what how the display issue is he said it was not the Black on White as sugested...

    In fact it is the Universal Access -> Display -> Enhance Contrast Slider
    It seems tha Enhance Contrast Slider will not stay where you set it.
    It always wants to be set to Maximum - and this gives us the Inverted display look. When setting the slider to anything else then you logout-login or reboot the screen is inverted and the slider is set to maximum again.
    OK... so which Preference (.plist file) can I delete to clear this?

  • Microsoft Lifecam VX-500 and...inverted desktop colours.

    Today I got an MS Lifecam VX-500 webcam for my old laptop . As soon as I plugged it in, it was immediately recognized by the Arch kernel (2.6.30-ARCH ) and the appropriate driver was loaded.
    dmesg:
    uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Microsoft LifeCam (045e:074a)
    input: Microsoft LifeCam as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.3/usb1/1-5/1-5.4/1-5.4:1.0/input/input13
    When I tried to capture the camera input (by asking VLC player to display the video from the /dev/video0 device) , it refused to cooperate since apparently I was not a member of the user group "video". As soon as I added myself to the group, the camera image displayed perfectly but all the  colours of my desktop were inverted. When I closed vlc they switched back to normal. Later on I disconnected the webcam and tried to run skype. Immediately desktop colours were inverted. Same with amarok. When I removed myself from the "video" user group everything came back to normal!
    Any ideas?

    My desktop environment is KDEmod 3.5.10
    When I run vlc, skype or amarok from the command line , no errors appear but the colours become inverted. Also, when I minimize the window, colours get temporarily back to normal .

    Those are just shortcuts to open the application. Go to your Applications folder and open Mail from there. You can drag the Mail application from the applications folder back down to your dock.

  • My hyperlinks have gone awry

    Help, my hyperlinks have done their own thing. I want all my hyperlinks to be blue as a:link. I defined my links in my external style sheet to be blue; however, when I visted my page in chrome or on my mobile phone some of my links are blue and the rest are purple. In chrome on the desktop, the "home" link in the navigation is blue and the rest of the links in the navigation are purple lol. This looks terrible to me and I'm sure others? How can I force each link to be blue, can I add a bit of code to the <a href ....> tad at every link to force each one blue? I have attached my source code and my external style sheet below. Please help me get this fixed. I've had this problem in previous designs as well. I know dreamweaver can be  buggy but there is usually a way around using the code. Thanks to all who help:

  • User preferences,desktop,documents GONE

    My bridge software crashed, I closed the app. Computer was not responding so I restarted finder it hung so I had to restart using the power button. When computer restarted I had my login window, user pasword and everything looked normal however when the desktop appeared all my icons files etc were gone. My dashboard looked as it did when I first got the mac. All my documents and pictures are also gone. My applications are still there, my user id is still what it was. I ran repair permissions and repair disk however that did not help.
    Please help

    I did find were they are. For some reason it looks like the OS recreated my home folder with the same user ID wth 4 sub folders. If I select the hard drice and go to shared folders there is a folder named the same as my home directory and all my stuff is there. What is the best way to recover without corruption. Should I copy it to the new user home folder. Should I rame the existing copy the old user home folder to the same directory as the current home folder exists?

  • User Reset? Desktop files gone.

    I came home to find my desktop blank, and all my files and folders gone and my settings appear to back to intial installation. The power had not gone out.
    Is there a way to restore files from the desktop? I've done several searches but found only a few documents and my iTunes library?
    Any ideas what could have happened? My dock was reset and everything, but my online settings, email, and hard drive seem intact. After reading some of the posts, it seems my user had been reset on June 1. Any way to get this through disk utility or the archive settings on my home folder?
    Sign me baffled....

  • Where have the rich colours gone?

    I updated premioere pro cc last night and when I opened the program today the rich colours for objects in the timeline have gone.  This is making it a lot harder to see all the different tracks.  The colours are fine in the project browser just on the timeline.
    Any advice?

    This was an intentional change to address complaints about the colors of track items in the Timeline getting too washed out within the In/Out range.
    This is the very first time that it dawned on me that not all Premiere issues and problems come thru this Forum. DOH!
    I assumed that Adobe did use other ways of testing / developing FRs though. eg Edit Lab and direct feedbacks etc.
    Still..interesting that no one in this Forum complained about the color of track items!
    At least it explains to me where the End of Sequence Indicator came from.

  • Desktop is GONE.

    I think I somehow contracted a rather serious virus. Everything on my desktop has disappeared except for the Macintosh HD icon. It's literally all gone. It happened while I was actually using it. The first weird thing my laptop did was to say it was March 24, 2001, then everything disappeared. Any idea what's going on and (more importantly) how to fix it?

    There are no known viruses that affect Macs. Trogans you would have to download and approve the install of yourself, yes.
    Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
    You could have some directory corruption. I'm thinking bad corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job...almost sure of it.
    Do you have a backup?
    After that, if the Disk Repair was successful, Repair Permissions.
    No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

  • Desktop file gone!

    Loaded Maverick and then I rebooted and nothing is on my desktop, all the files with the exception of Macintosh HD are gone and I can't even drag anything onto the desktop!  Yikes!  What is going on?????

    I resolved this by using Time Machine and getting all the Desktop items back.  I am sure it had more to do with me doing something weird with Macfort rather than Maverick.  I couldn't drag anything onto the Desktop becausethe Desktop folder was completely gone from my home file, really strange.

  • Where have my fonts and colours gone?

    Keynote 6.0 has been a bitter disappointment for me.
    Its crippling emsculation from desktop tool to iPhone app has been discussed exhaustively in another string, however there are some basic functions that I am struggling with and for which there must, surely, be some immediate solution. If anyone can help me with the following I would be very grateful.
    1. When I installed 6.0 I found that all my fonts reverted to the standard ones only. Is this normal? I have tried reinstalling the additional fonts that I use but whenever I open a new presentation it substitutes standard fonts.
    2. All the proprietary colour palettes that I had set-up for specific clients disappeared when I moved to 6.0. It will takes many hours to re-enter every shade using RGB references (I have numerous clients all with unique fonts and colour palettes). Was I just unlucky or has this happened for everyone? I still have the original colour palettes on my laptop (using the previous 09 version of Keynote), can anyone tell me if I can locate the missing colour palette somewhere in the library and transfer them to my other machine for use by 6.0?
    3. Navigating up and down pages used to be easy using the Fn and up/down arrow keys. This has been deleted, has it been replaced with another shortcut or is there some other work-around that is eluding me?
    4. When I opt to view rulers and set zoom to 'fit slide in window' then open another presentation, I have to do the same again. Is it possible, somehow to set these things as defaults?
    5. Is it possible to have fully metric default adjustments for things like text tabs (instead of 1.27cm which, I know, is half-an-inch, but pretty arbitary as a metric for use in Europe)?
    I know, I should feedback my comments to Apple, but I am weary of their failure to listen and disillusioned by their obsession with iOS technophobes but, however misguided I think their strategy, I would just love to be able to carry on working with Keynote and Pages.
    I must say, having spend the last ten years trying to wean clients of PowerPoint and Word and onto iWork I now have more egg than Apple on my chin.

    Most of the time in these cases, the user has more than one email and therefore more than one revel account. When you were logged in before, was it with a different email, or google or facebook? My best guess is that you logged in recently with a different email.  I will send you an email so you don't have to post your email addresses online. The account using the gmail account you use on this forum was only created 7 hours ago, so it is not the same account  you were logged into previously when you added photos.
