Desktop display has a border

I have noticed on my 21.5" Imac display that i have a 3-4mm black border along the top and left hand side of the desktop display.  It looks like the display has dropped diagonally towards the bottom right hand corner.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Mark

Hi Mark,
I have the same model as you.
As Rudegar says, on the 2011 iMac although the glass goes right to the edge (except along the bottom where there is an aluminium strip with the Apple logo in the centre), the actual LCD screen does not extend to the edges. There is a black border (I've just measured it and it is 2.7cm wide) all round the screen area which the image does not extend into.  If this is the width of your border and it is equal all round the screen image area, then that is normal.
If, on the other hand, it is markedly wider on one or two sides, then you may need to experiment with your screen resolution. If this doesn't help then you may have a screen problem for a repairer to take a look at

  • My desktop display has been magnified and everything I open is similarly magnified. When I try to zoom out using Ctrl - or the mouse nothing happens

My MacBok Pro suddenly magnified the desktop display significanlty. All programmes and applications are similarly magnified when open. I tried zooming out using Ctrl - and I also tried holding down the Option key and scrolling down using the mouse. Nothing happens to zoom out of the desktop and on Facebook for example the columns get smaller but the text doesn't so lines of text end up overlayed each other. What can I do to remedy the situation?

Found the Option key. Googled it. And yes your instructions worked a treat. Thanks

Uncheck Mirrored, you'll then be in Extended mode:

When I try to open Blackberry Desktop the message I get is that Blackberry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close.  I have a Blackberry Bold 9700 and as a result I cannot sync.  Does this mean I need to uninstall and reinstall?  If I reinstall will I lose the update that I have on my phone that has changed the interface?  Will I have to reinstall that as well?

  • "remote desktop connection has stopped working" When printing from remote desktop connection

I have been having a issue when using a windows 7 machine. I have Remote Desktop to a session on Windows2008 R2, I am using the local printer resources to redirect the printing. However everytime i try to print it crashes the remote desktop application.
Gives me "remote desktop connection has stopped working." I have 4 other computers connected and printing with no issues what so ever. This only happens when i print. It does print by the way just the application crashes.
-I have also updated the printer drivers to newest possible thru the manufactorer website. The printer is a Brother MFC-8890DW. Windows 2008 R2 is up to date for the RDS server. 3 other machines are able to Remote in and print. The user is able to print using
diffrent machines just not the Windows 7 machine.

    Hi,
Happy to hear that you resolved your issue. For another issue which you are facing here trying to provide some suggestion.
As you have commented that you are facing issue with second screen resolution on wide screen. The setting which I am suggesting can only applies when you are using multi-monitor Remote Desktop connections.  If you are making Connections using a single
monitor do not use this setting.
So for this you can try to apply “Limit maximum display resolution” setting in group policy, where you can mention the width & height for the screen to display. The setting can be applied on below mentioned
    path.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment
Meanwhile sharing article with you for more information.

  • Lotus Notes 8 + BB DM 5.0.1: BB Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I just purchased a Bold 9700 and am trying to sync my Lotus Notes 8 calendar to my BB.  I am using Desktop Manager 5.0.1.  I appear to have set up the syncronization properly because it starts but when it reaches record 1057, I receive a message that reads "BlackBerry Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  When I click on "details" I see the following information:  Error Signature.  AppName:  Desktopmgr.exe   AppVer:  5.0.1.37   ModName:  Insections.dll   ModVer:  7.1.1.129  Offset:  001a32ed.  How can I successfully sync my calendar and BB?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Here is an article that may be pertinent:
KB10340 "BlackBerry Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." during the synchronization process
Otherwise, I would think that record 1057 is a bad record and is causing this problem. You might try figuring out which item that is and deleting it, then trying again.
You also could try activating advanced logging and seeing it that provides more details to help you:
KB01451 How to turn on advanced synchronization logging if a wired synchronization fails
    Hopefully something there is helpful!
    Cheers!

  • Displays only menu border and logo

I have two Apple TVs in my home. One is in a living room and the other in a bedroom. Both are syncing to a G5 tower. Both are 160 GB ATVs.
The living room drive has never had any issues. The bedroom ATV is an AppleCare replacement due to an issue that I had and continue to have (with the new ATV). The issue is that sometimes the Apple TV only displays the menu border (frame) without any text menus. The AppleTV header and Logo are displayed in the bordered frame but menus like Movies, Music, Photo, etc. do not display. If I leave the box alone and come back to it hours later it sometimes comes back when I return.
If any of you can shed light on what is gong on I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Brent

Thanks so much for offering your feedback and suggestions regarding my issue. Let me answer both suggestions. First, the AppleTV does not have any additional software enhancements. It is stock build.
I like the idea of an HDMI cable issue. I will replace with component cables and see if that makes a difference. Thank you both again for your suggestions.

  • Albook G4 Display Has White Bar Bottom Screen

    Hello all:
My Albook G4 display has a white bar on the bottom third of the screen. Last year I followed these steps to fix tighten the hinges: http://macintoshhowto.com/hardware/how-to-fix-a-loose-hinge-on-an-aluminium-powe rbook.html
and I'm guessing I may have damaged, loosend or otherwise screwed up the connections. Any suggestions? TIA!

Thanks for your reply. Not quite sure when the issue started (my daughter's machine) but I think its been progressing for several months.
Before your reply, I was thinking hardware (monitor cable) but at your suggestion I ran TechTools - no issues. I also checked and repaired permissions, ran the fsck -fy in single user mode, and changed the desktop picture and screen saver options. It seemed to have cleared up, but when I adjust the screen position (open or close) the same area briefly acts up. I still think it may be a connector or cable issue, but there obviously was some sort of software issues too, so thanks for your suggestion. Is there a tutorial on how to check the screen connections that you would recommend? Thanks again!

  • Display has changed

I recently installed an extra Gig of Ram and an update to Aperture 2.0. Since then the display has expanded very slighly, for example the top menu bar is cut in half horizontally. all windowns seem to be slightly larger than they should be.
Also the outline of text appears to be fuzzy.
I have not changed the resolution, which remains at 1440x990.
    Any suggestions for a fix?

Hi sjaycee: It sounds like your desktop has become slightly zoomed. Go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing, turn of the Zoom function. Hopefully this gets your screen back to normal.
    Good Luck

  • Desktop photo has file location

    Hi
my mac desktop image has its file location accross the front of the screen and i dont know how to remove it
i have been in to the apple shop and they didnt know how to remove it either
    thanks David

If you change the desktop image, does the displayed filename change too, or is it only that one image that is affected?
If it's just that image, if you open it in Preview, does it have the file path burned into it?
Do you have a third-party utility that's doing this? Reboot with the shift key held down - any change?

  • Remote Desktop Session has Ended

    Hi,
I have a group of machines running Windows XP and this has enabled RDP feature. I enter the hostname/ip which (console remote desktop connection), I enter my user and password, the desktop is loaded but quickly (think less than 2s) the connection drops with
the message "The service session desktop remote has ended. Another user connected to the remote computer, hence his connection was lost ". The problem is that there is another user who has logged in and it occurs in other XP machines, but it
does not happen in Windows 7, Windows 2003 and 2008 servers.
    My attempts:
    - Windows Firewall off
    - The problema also happens with user local administrator
    - Put these station on a OU without GPO applied.
    - There is no other user using the computer, because she is dedicated to testing.
    The message that is displayed.
In the event viewer there are no errors related to this problem. Any suggestion?

This behavior is by design. Windows XP remote desktop is intended to give users the possibility to log in remotely to their own computer, not to run multiple sessions at once.

My macbook pro's screen display has suddenly gone into a strange colour setting where everything appears in a kind of infrared colour palette an I can;t seem to change it back.  It's the same for all icon and websites, does anyone know how to restore?

Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop...

I have a Tour 9630 and just installed v6.0 and receiving an error window "Blackberry Desktop Software has stopped working. A problem as caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  I have not received any message from Windows after 2 days.  Has anyone experienced this problem?  If so, I would appreciate any guidance.  I have Windows 7, if that matters. Thank you. in advance.

    Hi somewhatstock
How far did you get with them? Did they have any ideas what might be causing the problem? Trying to work on it myself, so trying to eliminate what others might have tried. Curious why it works on my Desktop however. Losing tethering really causes problems as I rely on tethering with my laptop quite a lot.
    Any information most welcome,
    regards,
    John
