Desktop frozen on startup after installing new video card. Please help!

Recently we upgraded my computers graphics card to a Gigabyte Geforce GTX650 and we have also upgraded the power supply to an EX2 525W power supply. When we plug the PCIE into the video card and enable the slot the screen goes to the standard startup screen and says press escape for startup menu but then freezes there. We have tried updating the BIOS and we have made sure that all the connections were secure. If we try having the video card plugged in and run the onboard graphics the computer will beep several times and there will be no screen output.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated on this!

I understand a new video card isn't working as expected.
What is the product number and model of the PC? The following document details how to find this information should you need it.

    Hi,
Most PCI-E 3.0 cards are backwards compatible with PCI-E 2.0 slots.  However, in order to get PCI-E version 3 you need to be using an Ivy Bridge processor.  Review these specifications for a typical NVIDIA GTX 650.

  • Mac Pro (v1.1) won't login after installing new video card

    Hello,
I have a Mac Pro from 2006 and after my NVidia 7300GT burned, I bought a Geforce 8800GT to replace my old card. After I installed it to the motherboard following the user manual, I turn on my mac and I get the white screen with the apple logo but it won't login. I left it like that for 30 minutes, then I forced restart and the same thing happens. Does anyone have a clue why this happens and how can it be fixed?
    Thank you

8800 required 10.5.2 or later (10.5.3 DVD and 10.5.6 DVDs were sold, though now $29 will get you 10.6.3).
No OS earlier than 10.5.2, in addition to there having been two versions of the card, EFI32 (2006-7) and EFI64 (2008+).

  • No onboard audio after installing new graphics card

    Good afternoon,
    This is my system:
    Pavilion Elite 5100t ATX PX
    Vista 64
    Raedon HD 5670
After installing the video card, the onboard 5.1 audio panel at the back only produces sound for the subwoofer.  The front headphone jack is still working.  The video card supports HDMI, and therefore has an audio component in it.  I tried the following without any solution:
    1.  Setting onboard audio as "enable" in BIOS
    2.  Choosing "speakers" as default in control panel-->sound
    3.  Disabling the HDMI audio output in control panel-->sound
    4.  Uninstalling both audio drivers (onboard Realtek and AMD from the VC) with auto-reinstallation when restart
Those are the common recommendations I got from different forum.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Did you try the latest Realtek audio driver?
I had a problem similar to yours with my NVIDIA GT 460. It turned out to be a bad Realtek audio driver.  I had to go back to the original Realtek driver that came with my HP PC until Realtek fixed that issue that I reported to them.  I had tried six differnet Realtek drivers.

  • Startup problems after instaling new graphics card drivers

PC:    HP   p6520 f    with a 400 watt power supply
video card:    AMD Radeon 6570   (MD1GD3)
After getting the 400 watt power supply, I was able to uninstall the intergrated graphics card's drivers, but I can't succsesfully startup after installing drivers for the new card without a system restore, which of course gets rid of the new drivers.
I've tried newer drivers, but those don't work either.
    Any suggestions?

Hello Sev_07.  I understand you're unable to install your video card drivers.
Are you receiving an error on boot?

  • No Sound after installing new video c

    Hello folks.
I'm having a problem with the sound not working on my system. Basically I was having problems with visual corruption on-screen when playing OpenGL games like Call of Duty. I replaced my power supply and my video card, which has fixed the visual problem. However, the new video card has apparently taken some of the system's resources away from the sound.
    Here's some hardware information:
Sound Blaster Li've! Platinum Edition sound
    SOYO KT400 Dragon Ultra motherboard
ATI Radeon x700 Pro 256 MB video (the new card)
When I go into Device Manager I get this error: "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 2). If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system." My motherboard has onboard sound, C-Media, which I have disabled in BIOS. The video card is plugged in essentially the same way as the previous one was. I have tried reinstalling the sound via Device Manager to no avail. I have noticed that on separate attempts, the sound devices were listed differently. The first time they were all listed in a tree: 4 SB Li've! WDM, then 4 of the Gameport. They were all sandwiched within one another. The second time around they were all 8 listed as separate devices.
I'm at work at the moment so I'm sorry I can't provide further details. Can anyone help me with this situation? I would very much appreciate your help. Thank you.Message Edited by vendetta4 on 06-0-2005 06:42 PM

first, in the hardware manager delete all unplugged video cards, audio cards and monitors (cleanup purpose). to display them, go to display->display hidden devices.
provide us a capture of the extended device manager, and your complete list of hardware.

    Hello Malith Ratnayake,
After changing the old RAM by the new one, this issue occurs?
If the issue doesn’t occur when you change back to use old ram, I think it is the RAM hardware issue.
Please contact the hardware manufacturer for better support.

  • No Signal after installing new graphics card

Hello and thanks in advance for your help!
We have a 2yr old HP p6540y.  It has an ATI integrated Video Card. When we recently turned it on, we got a 'no signal' message on the monitor and then it would go to sleep.  We have tried several things to fix...listed below, in order, and are still getting the same message.  Please advise!
    1) No Signal: DVI, VGA, HDMI.  So we unplugged and restarted, no change.
    2) Checked monitor and DVI & VGA cords with another computer: They all work.
    3) Installed new Graphics Card: NVIDIA GEForce GT 610.  Still got same 'no signal' message.
    4) We plugged/unplugged all other cards/cords/anything we could and cleaned out.  Then, finally, the monitor turned on! But not for long....
    5) After restarting computer after installation of graphics card driver, we got the 'no signal' message again.  We once again, pulled out other cards/plugs and again the monitor/computer came to life.
    6) We unistalled the integrated ATI graphic card.  When we go to Display, Advanced Options, it lists our new NVIDIA as graphic/display card.
    7) We turned computer off overnight and this morning when we turned on, we once agin got the 'no signal' message.  We unplugged/plugged computer in several times.  Also tried the trick with pulling out cards/plugs and we got nothing.  No Signal.  After doing this several times (about 10), it finally worked again.
    8) We changed sleep settings to: Screensaver=Never; Sleep Mode=Never.
    9)  We restarted again to once again get no signal message.
So...what do we need to do?
    Thanks so much!

    Triusa, welcome to the forum.
I suspect that your problem is caused by the power supply unit (PSU).  Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot the problem:

Also, the existing PSU is 250W.  The GT 610 requires a minimum of 300W.

  • MS-6714 trying to install new video card

Well, I have done everything I can think of short of sledgehammering my computer into oblivion.  Just bought this comp it is a 2.8 celeron using the 6714.  Thought I could just stick a new video card in.  It recogzines the video card, but will not use it.  Even when I disable the on board through the device manager.  It just uses generic vga drivers.  Any clue how I can get this card to be used?

    Hi,
    Which 6714 are you using???
    Check link:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/search/ser/SerConProRes.php?keyword=6714&kind=1
    Also,
1)have you disabled the ONBOARD graphics in the BIOS???
2)which video card you trying to install and which version of drivers?
3)what PSU do you have and model number?
Every single piece of info you give, shortens the answer/solution time...

  • Trouble installing new video card

I have a HP Pavilion a6720y Desktop which operates with Windows Vista 64-bit, and I had uninstalled the drivers on my current video card and powered down and opened up my computer, however I could not find a graphics card anywhere in my computer, the PCI slot was empty. So I put in the new card and when I tried turning on the computer again the monitor would not display anything as if the computer were off, when it was clearly on. Can anyone tell me what to do and where exactly the old video card is so I can remove it, If I can remove it.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the product specs for your PC.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01643511&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
There is no add-on video card (one you can remove).
The video on your PC is a GPU chip integrated onto the motherboard.
You may have to connect the monitor cable back to the onboard (old) video input, and go into the BIOS, and look for a setting to either disable the onboard video, or enable the PCIe/PCI video, or set it as the primary video controller.
I don't have your model PC, so I don't know what BIOS settings it has.
Not all PC's automatically disable the onboard video chip when an add on video card is installed.
If there are no video settings then one of two things is possible:
    1. You inadvertently hooked the monitor back up to the old video port (I've done that before).
    2. Your video card is defective or incompatible with your PC (may draw too much power, or be too high a PCIe version like 2.1).

  • 3000 j115 A11 stopped working after installing new graphics card

I thought i would be slick and install a new graphics card (asus GEForce 8500GT) after i put it in my 3000 j115 A11 everything stopped working. I can turn the tower on and it gives two beeps. Nothing displays on the monitor (it doesn't leave powersaving mode). It is also very quiet like it is not even trying to work. Did I just destroy my computer? Is there anything I can do?
PS. I did take the asus card back out, so I'm not that lucky
PSS. Got back to being able to boot but now I can't get back into bios to switch from PCI back to original built in card. If I try it just hangs after pressing enter to interupt normal setup

I find this thread very interesting. I am assuming this system (3000 j115 A11) is the same as one I mentioned in a post from June 12 (7387A11... Graphics upgradeable?).... and is still hanging out there. Perhaps if Lenovo, or anybody else for that matter, could/would provide SPECIFIC upgrade instructions we could all be enlightened. (In my case I do not own a Lenovo computer but I am hoping to help my sister-in-law with her Lenovo and don't look forward to a major meltdown if the systems are not capable of this, otherwise, simple upgrade.)
Niether of the 2 previous posters mentioned if they upgraded the PS in thier respective systems prior to the graphics card installation (although ala17 "recently" did.). One had issues and the other didn't. If that should be the first step toward the upgrade, it would be helpful to know beforehand.
Thanks and good luck. Post back if you get to the bottom of it.

  • Installing new Video Card

    Hi
I'm trying to install an ATI Radeon (256 Mb) video card on my MSI board (MS - 6787 Via ProSavage DDR Chipset) but when I power up the PC it doesn't boot. What should I do??
I've tried before with a Riva TNT- 2 (64Mb) but it didn't work either.
I've tried already desabling onboard graphics, but It didn't work any way. System just doesn't boot and I get no beeps whatsoever... After doing this, had to flash my bios because after uninstalling the external video card, the system booted but didn't get any video.
The video card is a Radeon 9550 256Mb

  • K9N2 Diamond no video after installing second video card

Hey everyone , I hate to sound desperate but I Need Help fast Please!! I have a lot of work to do on this system tomorrow , I really do not want to use this old PC I am on now.
First off let me say that I have had this board for about a month (maybe longer) and besides a slight power down issue it has been Rock solid and runs everything.
but my problem started tonight when I went to install a second video card that I bought , I had a 9600GT as a second card but it never made it into this build because my kids needed a video card for their PC so pay no attention to the 9600GT in my system config list. Again I have only ever had a single GTX260 installed in this system.
but I finally got an 8600GT (for PhysX only) and installed it tonight after downloading a driver form Nvidia , system was working fine , but after installing my 8600GT in the second PCI-e slot I powered up to NO VIDEO , so I figured I would have to reset CMOS to set the video cards or something so I powered down tried resetting that and restarted , still NO video.
So I removed the 8600GT PhysX card and restarted again and still NO video , so I tried the onboard VGA plug and still NO video.
I then tried to remove the battery , reset the CMOS (no power to the computer at all) and put everything back and still NO video!!
I must say I am at a loss here , shouldn't the "Clear CMOS" button actually clear the CMOS and boot the PC to default settings?? I simply do not understand this problem. what can I be doing wrong?
    Things I have Tried:
    all video ports Including onboard
Clearing the CMOS by holding down the button for 30 seconds several times
Removed the battery and pressed the Clear CMOS
    Removed 1 stick of RAM
    Video card in different slots
Powering on and off several times
PS: My 4 green lights are now from the top when they were al green before:
    Green
    Green
    Red
    Green
Please thank you for any help

Looks like time to take it all out of the case and give things a test run on the table top. Take it all apart down to the bare MB and start from scratch and see what happens.
Thanks for the reply Henry , I can try that as my motherboard tray comes out easily but I have a question , what is this supposed to accomplish? if this motherboard won't run in my case its useless to me. I think what I am going to try first though is a 9850 BE CPU to eliminate a bad CPU , and I must get the info off my HDD as it did not complete a backup last night due to this video thing , that is my main concern right now. I have had this case for 2.5 years and hav had 2 ASUS motherboards in it , it is very well grounded/proven. But I will try anything.
Quote from: Bas on 04-June-09, 14:09:16
Try with 1 strick of memory in the slot next to the cpu.
Thanks for the reply Bas , I already tried that last night and it did not work , I also tried 2 different video cards in ALL PCI-e slots and a single RAM chip in slot #2.
NOTE to BAS , your suggestion to turn off the WOL setting on my 2 nic cards in another thread worked all day for me yesterday , thank you for that suggestion.
Is there ANY other way to clear the CMOS other than with the push button and the battery out?
thanks guys , I'll try another CPU tonight and see if that works , if not I will try to RMA or just junk the board as if I cannot get it to post its useless.

  • [VIA] KT4AV seemingly dead after installing new sound card!

    Hi all,
I recently fitted a new sound card to my system. following this my system wouldn't start - it wouldn't even get past POST (i'm getting the 4 red LEDs on the D-Bracket for "cpu incorrectly installed or damaged"). I've takenb the card out again, and no change. i've removed and reseated the CPU, and no change. I've even changed the CPU for another that i know is working fine, and (you guessed it) no change. I've also tried resetting/clearing the CMOS (nothing).
The main thing i should stress is that my system was 100% fine before this. never locked, rebooted or crashed.
    My system is:
    KT4AV mobo
Athlon XP 2800+ (and also a Duron 900 for testing, as above)
    2 x Crucial DDR2700 512MB sticks
    Radeon 9800 Pro (Saphire)
    Q-Tec (yes - i know!) 550W PSU
Could the CPU socket have been damaged/burnt out or something?
    Hope someone can help, cheers
    Jon...

the first thing i will suggest is.... try another (better) PSU. borrow one off a friend. you may find that the board powers up again

I cant get it to work.
Have tried to find the latest BIOS but the latest one is from 2012 :/

Thanks for the quick answers. I think i will buy a new motherboard or a upgrade package. Is it possible that someone can answer if this all would work together ?
