Desktop full of zero KB files

Desktop full of zero kb files and I can not find a way to get rid of them. The computer is slow or sluggish.
Thanks for any help.

What's the name of those zero KB files? Can you delete them if you reboot?

  • Code coverage using command line always produces a binary file nearly full of zeros, not workable by Visual

    I'm using Professional Edition 2013. I try to generate a coverage report for a C project, using the command line interface.
    In Visual, configuration of the Linker : Configuration Properties -> Linker -> Advanced -> Profile.
    Then:
    vsinstr.exe my.exe /COVERAGE
    I've got messages from Visual that the instrumentation went well.
    VSPerfCmd.exe /START:COVERAGE /OUTPUT:my.coverage
    my.exe
    VSPerfCmd.exe /SHUTDOWN
    The my.coverage file is created. But it's a binary file, more or less full of zeros. Dropping it into Visual just opens it as a binary file. Full stop.
    I've tried the same commands on very different .exe files and it seems like the my.coverage file has always the same content.
    What am I doing wrong ?
    Thx

    Hi Fred35,
    If you test it with other language project, how about the result? For example, a console app or winform app.

    Based on your description, I think the steps have no issue like this blog here:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/cellfish/archive/2008/11/16/native-c-code-coverage-reports-using-visual-studio-2008-team-system.aspx
    So I'm afraid that we would think about others. Maybe it is the dependent dll file issue.

  • Get only the filename not the full path of the file.

    hi to all..
    how can i get only the filename of the file not the full path and to be placed on a textinput.?
    example:
    when i'browse the file and select sample.txt
    "C:\Users\user\Desktop\folders\sample.txt" this will be inputted on the textinput.
    however, what i want to have is when i'browse and select a file..
    textinput should only contain "sample".
    does anyone knows how to do it?

    Hi cyrus@adobe,
    How are you getting the full path of the file when you browse, I dont think for security reasons the Flash Player will aloow to do so. You can only get the file name not the full path of the file when you browse.
    Are you using Flex4..?? I am not sure whether this is possible in Flex4..However if you are getting full path and if you wanted to show only the filename then you can just use theString class split function to acehive this..
    var fullPath:String = "C:\Users\user\Desktop\folders\sample.txt";
        var splitPath:Array = fullPath.split("\");
        textInput.text = splitPath[splitPath.length-1];
    Thanks,
    Bhasker

  • Copy doesn't work and creates zero bytes files that I can't delete.

    After installing Yosemite (I am now using version 10.10.1) I had problems copying files.
    Sometimes (not always) it doesn't copy files from a folder to another using the simple cmd-c cmd-v procedure. Even if both folders are on the desktop. It creates many empty files (white icons, zero bytes) named as my files, but the copy isn't happening.
    The main problem is that I cannot delete the files anyhow. If they are in a folder I can delete the whole folder and empty the trash.
    It doesn't happen everytime, but yesterday I had the same problem copying a few videos to the desktop and I can't get rid of them (because I obviously can't delete the desktop folder...).
    Can anybody help me? I need to be able to delete those zero bytes files that are now on my desktop.
    I tried to drag them into a folder but it wouldn't let me. As well, I tried to copy the same files to the desktop to see if they disappeared, but the new files copied were renamed with 2 (ex. I had the zero byte file called IMG_0705.MOV on my desktop. I tried to paste the same file and it appeared named as IMG_0705 2.MOV).
    I don't know what to do...
    Thanks

    Take it to an Apple store or AASP. How much it will cost will depend on their determination of the problems. To bad you didn't purchase extended AppleCare. No you don't get your money back for purchasing Lion.

  • Zero sized files and client download errors..

    Frequently I see zero sized files being downloaded into the patch proxy spool area.
    Sometimes it is the detectors file. Other times it is a whole heap of all_signed<patchid>.jar files. This basically breaks all future downloads of these patches to the clients.
    If I go into the spool directory and delete the offending zero length files and re-issue the download command it works.
    Also, on especially large patch files, the client will report errors during the download. The patch proxy is still downloading the patch in the background but the client times out waiting for it to come down.
    I will paste logs etc when I see it again.

    I encountered an issue today with zero length patch jar File

  • Zero Byte Files

    When I ran a smart folder consisting of all files with Zero bytes, I got a dozens of them (including a lot in the preference folder).  Is this normal?  Should I be trashing any of these or do they serve some purpose?  I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.4.

    This turned out to be a user error. However, I realized this after fixing the error by deleting the follwoing files:
    Check if the issue exists with another user? Continue if the issue is not reproducible.
    Delete all the preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/*.*
    This fixed the issue. However, while deleting the plist files, I realized that the issue was as a result of bad task I created in Automator. The process was replicating the zero byte files. The issue could've been resolved had I traced my steps back to the time when I first saw the problem. Could've save me some time in customizing my desktop from scratch.

  • How to get the full path of a file

        If the user selects a file through a browse button, Is there a way, I can get the full path of the file. The file can be from his local hard drive as well.. Can someone advise

  • How to get full path of a file uploaded using file control on a jsp ?

    Hi all...
    I have a jsp on which i am using a file element (input type="file") to upload files present on the physical file system.. Thats working fine.. But i want to retrieve the full path of the file uploaded for further computation.
    What are the possible ways which can give me the full path ?? (e.g. "D:\data\text\Output.txt" )
    Thanks all for attending the question..
    Regards
    Prasad

    Some browsers send the full path. Some do not.
    You can not affect this in any way shape or form.
    All you can count on receiving is a filename - no path information.
    So you will have to have some other way for the user to pass along this information.
    If they are uploading to a "remote web site" they could specify a folder to put the uploaded file in.
    You could classify it and put all image files in "images" and all script files in "scripts" etc etc by default, and let the user deal with it in their own HTML.
    Hope this helps,

  • In Mac how to get the Full name of a file Programmatically?

    Hi Friends,
             I am doing one Mac application for displaying the contents of a file. I can able to get some information about the file by using this code below...
      NSDictionary *dict=[fileManager attributesOfItemAtPath:myPath error:nil];
    Now I want to get the some other informations also like Full Name, copyRight, version... So Please suggest me how to get the full name of a file Programmaticallly?

    Your question doesn't make sense.
    First off, if you are going to get the attributes of a file, you need its full name before you can do anything. So that's part one taken care of.
    This function returns a dictionary full of typical file information (type, size, mod dates, etc.) as well as some HFS data (creator code, type code) which, I strongly suspect, are not "pulled out of the file" but rather generated on the spot. (See NSFileManager for the full list of attribute keys.)
    The other items you hoped of retrieving are not part of the regular file system. Sure, a Truetype font has a copyright string and a version, but what about an HTML file? A PNG? A text file you just created?
    There simply are no standard functions to retrieve copyright and version.

  • Zero byte files not transferred with FTP Adapter

    All,
    I am seeing that zero byte files are not being transferred using FTP Adapter (SFTP type). Is there a known bug around this? Please respond if anybody have seen this behavior and resolved this issue. I am using 10.1.3.3.0
    Thanks,
    Dipal

    Thanks Marc,
    I still have doubt if that is the case. When I tested the same from 10.1.3.3.1 windows platform and FTP being windows OS zero bytes files transferred OK. Do you think this is to do with OS or SOA version?
    Thanks,
    Dipal

  • Folder Action + Move Finder Items = Zero KB files

    I've got a folder action set that is supposed to run the Automator Action "Move Finder Items" on any file that gets placed in a specific folder (called "Folder A") and move it to "Folder B". I'm having an issue with larger files though.
    As soon as I begin to transfer the file to "folder A" , the folder action runs and results in a "Zero KB" file in "Folder B".
    Is there any way to keep the Folder Action from triggering until the file has completely copied to the folder with the Folder Action attached ("Folder A")?
    A side note: I have this same folder action running on an iMac with Mac OS 10.6.3 and it works great . (This one was made with the newer version of Automator that shipped with 10.6 vs. Automator on 10.5 which made the action I am having trouble with)
    Any input would be appreciated!

    There is a check in *Snow Leopard* to see if the items have completed their copy/download, but Leopard does not do any checking - the script is triggered immediately. You can add your own delay with a *Run AppleScript* action, though, for example:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    font-weight: normal;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px; height: 340px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #DAFFB6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into an Automator 'Run AppleScript' action">
    on run {input, parameters} -- wait for file copy to complete by testing the size of the containing folder
    set theFolders to {} -- to handle items in different folders
    set skippedItems to {}
    repeat with anItem in the input -- get a list of unique folders
    tell application "Finder"
    get (container of anItem) as alias
    if the result is not in theFolders then set the end of theFolders to the result
    end tell
    end repeat
    repeat with aFolder in theFolders
    set timeToWait to 30 -- time to wait for copy to complete
    set interval to 2 -- test every interval seconds
    set copied to false
    tell application "Finder" to set currentSize to size of aFolder -- get initial size
    repeat with timer from timeToWait to 1 by -interval -- check every interval seconds up to maximum time
    delay interval
    tell application "Finder" to set newSize to size of aFolder -- recheck size
    if (newSize is equal to currentSize) then
    set copied to true
    exit repeat -- success
    else -- update size
    set currentSize to newSize
    end if
    end repeat
    if not copied then set the end of skippedItems to quoted form of (aFolder as text) -- timed out
    end repeat
    showSkippedAlert for skippedItems
    return input
    end run
    to showSkippedAlert for skippedItems
    show an alert dialog for any items skipped, with the option to cancel the rest of the workflow
    parameters - skippedItems [list]: the items skipped
    returns nothing
    if skippedItems is not {} then
    set {alertText, theCount} to {"Error with waiting for items to copy", count skippedItems}
    if theCount is greater than 1 then
    set theMessage to (theCount as text) & space & " folders timed out"
    else
    set theMessage to "1 folder timed out"
    end if
    set theMessage to theMessage & " - copy of contents may be incomplete:"
    set {tempTID, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {AppleScript's text item delimiters, return}
    set {skippedItems, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {skippedItems as text, tempTID}
    if button returned of (display alert alertText message (theMessage & return & skippedItems) alternate button "Cancel" default button "OK") is "Cancel" then error number -128
    end if
    return
    end showSkippedAlert
    </pre>
    The action will check the folder sizes, and when there is no change (or the wait times out) the input items are passed on.
