Desktop Gadgets

I get the message that "Desktop gadgets are managed by your system administrator." However, I am designated as the "administrator" and I am logged in properly. This is one of the two home computers on my "Home Network" in case
that is a source of the problem. I know that there is a problem with gadgets on Win 7 Home Prem SP1 if I am using IE 11, as I am, but, so is the other of my home computers, on which there is no problem. (I do known that the gadgets display as "information
only.")
How do I solve this problem? I am not a professional!
Thank you.

kindly go through the workaround as suggested here:

  • Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets disappeared

    Hello Everyone,
After installing Windows 7, I was able to select and run desktop gadgets on my desktop. After few days, or I should say that after few reboots, the desktop gadgets disappeared. Now, when I right click on the desktop and click on gadgets, nothing comes up. I also tried to open desktop gadgets from start menu, run command, and accessaries, but nothing works.
I did a clean install of Windows 7, did someone else have the same problem? Any solution?

Can anyone help me? I have Windows 7 on an HP G60-125nr laptop. My gadgets worked the first few days I had Windows 7 installed. I tried checking the Windows Features under Control Panel to make sure Gadgets were turned on and they were. I tried
the registry change, they still don't come on. I tried the run command and they still didn't come on. I tried making sure UAC was turned on and they still don't come up. I right click on the desktop and click "Gadgets", and it doesn't even come up with the
window to let me see the gadgets installed. I tried system restore. I tried reformatting. Nothing seems to work. I've tried everything listed so far and nothing seems to be working.
    Hi
    You are not reading carefully!
You need to right click on desktop and then to marck show desktop items if you want to see gadgets.
If you want read and my w7 bugs list here:
    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/ee88ae8d-27d4-42b6-96d3-b68eedfcac64
Your problem is bug 12 in this list
First off I didn't need to do that because mine was already set to show desktop items. Secondly, it ended up being the UAC problem, just with mine it made me restart before it would show up. Please word your responses a little more respectfully next time. Adding
an exclamation point at the end of your sentence it generally taken to mean you are being rude and yelling at someone pretty much. You should have simply asked if I had or not before just rushing to assume I hadn't
    Read your previous post!
You have listed all things you have tried and show desktop items is not between them!
Are you still wondering why there are exclamation marks?!
If there someone is rude, that is you, because you did not apreciate my time and good will to help you!!!
Do you know there is some phrase as thank you?!
When someone waste time to answer my question, I always thank him, no matter how useful replay is to me!
As a third party observer.. you are the one coming across as disrespectful
As ANOTHER party observer, I totally agree with Ventsislav, he was helping, and assuming that an exclamation is something negative is just being way too susceptible. The fact is that Muhawka described the same problem that the whole post had, he ignored all
posts, and eventually the answer was already in one of them, so indeed, he was not reading carefully, or most probably, he was not reading at all.
If only Muhawka had started with a "thank you" the whole thing might have been a bit different. But that's another story, Muhawka did not appreciate the time Ventsislav spent on him.

  • After Security updation of Windows 7 in Boot Camp (Mac Book Pro with Retina Display) on 13-Nov-2013, Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets are not working properly.

After Security updation of Windows 7 in Boot Camp (Mac Book Pro with Retina Display) on 13-Nov-2013, Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets are not working properly.
This is boot camp problem, because in other normal notebooks (e.g. SONY VAIO, Lenovo with Windows 7) the gadgets are working normally.
I am attaching the screen shot of Desktop Gadgets and Security updates of Windows 7.
    Kindly solve this issue ASAP.

Have you reinstalled the latest Boot Camp Windows 7 drivers, just in case Microsoft overwrote some of them during the Windows 7 security update?

  • Proper Fix for Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets not Displaying Correctly

This is not a question, this is an answer to a common problem with an easy solution.
DO NOT delete the registry subkey "Zones" the proper method to restore your gadgets is much simpler.
    Here is the proper fix:
    Right-Click Taskbar > Task Manager
    Right-Click sidebar.exe > End Process
    Start > Run (Windows Key + R)
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\
Delete the Settings.ini file in this folder.
(If you do not have extensions showing it will just read "Settings" in the [Name] column with "Configuration settings" in the [Type] column)
    Right-Click Desktop > Gadgets
Place your gadgets on your desktop.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your sharing.
You may refer to the following KB to check the issue:
Windows 7 gadgets may not work or be displayed correctly
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2515657
    Thanks again.
There is some great information, however it doesn't include the fix I mentioned. That's the whole reason I mentioned it. Referring to the KB does nothing, instead of providing autonomous replies try reading the title and content.

  • Windows desktop gadgets has stopped working

As of a few days ago my desktop gadgets have stopped working.  When I start Windows they appear to function normally for a minute or so then the error message "Windows desktop gadgets has stopped working" appears.  Sometimes there is a second attmept to launch the gadgets but it fails in the same manner.
Worryingly for the general robustness of Windows 7, performing a System Restore to a time before the problem arose did NOT fix the problem.

I have found this solution and worked perfectly for me, you might want to try it out!
I own no credit over this!
Thanks to " Ramesh Srinivasan   "
Is your Windows Sidebar (Windows Desktop Gadgets) crashing after adding a third-party gadget, with the error "Windows Desktop Gadgets has stopped working" or "Windows
Sidebar has stopped working" (Windows Vista) at every start? You can stop the offending gadget from loading by editing the Windows Sidebar Gadgets settings file. Here are the instructions, which apply to Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
If Sidebar.exe process is running, you wouldn’t be able to write to its settings file. Launch Task Manager (taskmgr.exe), select the sidebar.exe process and terminate it if it’s running.
Click Start, type the following path in the Search box and hit ENTER.
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar
(You can type it in the Run dialog as well.)
The above location is where the desktop gadgets store their configuration information, in a file named Settings.ini
First, make a copy of Settings.ini
Double-click Settings.ini to open it in Notepad.
Configuration information for the last installed desktop gadget is usually located at the end of the INI file. Using the PrivateSetting_GadgetName line as the hint, locate the corresponding [Section #], select all lines underneath
and delete it. Trim any blank lines that may have resulted from the deletion.
Then, move to the top of the INI file, and delete the Section# line that references the offending gadget. As you’ve removed the entries in [Section 5], also delete the following line:
    Section4="5"
Trim any blank lines that may have resulted from the deletion, and save the Settings.ini file.
Right-click on the Desktop, and click Gadgets. This starts the Sidebar.exe process and shows the gadgets listed in the Settings.ini file.

  • Google Desktop/Gadgets

I have Google Desktop installed successfully. However, every time I try to open Google Gadgets, it won't open. The icon bounces in the dock a few times, then quits. Sometimes it gives me an error message, but it never mentions what the problem is. I've had this trouble for a while now, and I just updated to 10.5.2. What is the problem? What can I do to fix it?
I'm not sure if this helps, but I also have CandyBar installed.

    Hiya,
I kind of doubt this is still a requirement given the age of the post, but please see my recent article :

I think that the Imagineering(?) Team came up with a similar concept.

  • Desktop Gadget Gallery

I am working off of a
HP Pavilion dm4-2180us Notebook PC with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64-bit Operating System. I have always had the "weather gadget" on my desktop; however, a couple of days ago the gadget started showing a notification which says "cannot
connect to service". I have closed it, restarted it, rebooted PC several times, run a virus scan, run a malware scan (both clean) & continue to get the same message. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what the problem may be & how to fix
it? I like this gadget because it is set to show the outside temperature of my home city.
I also have the gadget running on my HP Desktop PC with same operating system & it continues to work fine with no problems on that PC.
    Thanks in advance

  • Desktop gadgets won't always load

I have one T510 and one W530 running exactly with the same OS and IP and I have this nagging issue with my calendar and weather gadgets. Windows updates and the newest FF versions are completely up to date in both systems.
And still, while the T510 has never failed to load these gadgets, the W530 fails, I would say, about 25% of the time, from the beginning. I have resolved with rebooting and this usually works, but some times I have to reboot two or three times before they finally load. This is annoying, to say the least.
Does anyone have the same problem or knows what may be at issue here?
Thanks for all help on this matter.

    Hi
I am having the same problem. I was working on word and then it crashed. I then switched it off and now all I get is the apple and the wheel going round. I bought my mac in 2011.
Anyone know hoe to fix it

  • Windows 7 Gadgets slow to respond, 50% CPU utilisation with gadgets that "move"

I have a fresh installation of Windows 7 RC and everything was fine. I have no idea what may have caused this, but on day 2 of using Windows 7 RC, any desktop gadgets that move (like the CPU meter or the clock with its second hand enabled) cause the sidebar.exe process to go to 50% CPU utilisation (which is 100% of one core on my dual core CPU).
These gadgets then just become unresponsive and I have to close them. I can only keep the Weather gadget on because it doesn't have any animations. I have all Windows updates and the latest NVIDIA driver from Windows Update and even their own website doesn't help. There is something wrong with my gadgets. I have never installed any extra gadgets.
    What could it be?

Same issue, but after Vista x64 Home Prem upgrade to Win7 Home Prem x64.  ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card, Quad Core & can't even change the settings of the Clock if I set the seconds hand.  The clock takes up a continuous full core (25% of overall CPU) while the seconds hand is running; if the seconds hand is off then CPU utilization is 0% between minute updates.  Other gadgets are similar, but many such as Calendar, Weather, and some non-MS gadgets work perfectly fine.  Must be some kind of javascript issue.  I have Avira Antivir before & after upgrade to Win7, so AVG isn't the issue for me - I even tried with Antivir and Comodo Firewall turned off. UAC on.
This machine is FAST & it can't handle a little gadget.  (7.2/7.3 Windows Experience subscores on all but hard disk, which is 5.9)  Didn't have this issue in Vista x64 Home Prem.
    edit:
Checked the Win7 Resource Monitor CPU tab:
sidebar.exe - While not under heavy CPU load, "Analyze Wait Chain..." from context menu continually shows "One or more threads of sidebar.exe are waiting to finish network I/O", and indicates thread 4140 which is WinInet.dll (Internet Extensions for Win32 application extension.)  Under heavy CPU load, several other threads starting from sidebar.exe were indicated from the same message from "Analyze Wait Chain..." as well.
All other non-sidebar processes indicate "running normally" from "Analyze Wait Chain..."
Another clue:  If I login using the "Administrator" account, there is *** no performance problem ***!  The sidebar.exe shows as "running normally" from "Analyze Wait Chain..."
    So I also tried:
    - w/UAC turned off on the normal user (administrator rights) account (no fix)
    - tried creating a *new* normal user (administrator rights) account; still sloooowwww (also try this one w/o UAC, still bad)
-Problem Status:  normal User Accounts have the sidebar performance problem, Administrator account runs fine.
    Edit: 12/31/09
    SOLVED!!!!
After digging into the sidebar.exe output from Sysinternals Process Monitor, I noticed a peculiar difference between the output for the properly functioning Administrator account & my User accounts.  The admin acct showed the monitor profile for a good number of operations, while the User accts showed the wsRGB.cdmp value for the same operations, which was peculiar because I had my User accounts configured to use the system defaults, the same way I had the admin acct configured.
Going into the Windows Color Management, Advanced tab, I found that if I chose either of the "virtual device model profile" choices for the "Device Profile" setting, the performance hit was instant.  If I used any of the "normal" icm profiles, performance was good.  So I changed my system default Device Profile from "sRGB virtual device model profile" to the std sRGB.icm profile & everything is working great!
Note: In addition to the Gadgets, this also impacted the Windows Media Center Internet TV listings performance, which was also back to good performance after this WCM setting change.  I'd expect there are numerous other apps that could be affected by the "virtual device model profile" handling.  Googling "virtual device model profile" seems to bear that out, as I see others who ran into app problems when using that in the WCM applet.

The file that Bob sends references Oracle servers. I have just rewritten his document to a generic use as you are not the first person to have this problem. If you send me an email to alex.neill@{see profile} I'll send you a copy. This will tell you how to add the Widgets to iGoogle, the retrieve the URL and then add it as a widget.

  • Using AIR for desktop

is drag'n'drop from system and back possible?
i would like to build an air desktop drop zone area.
it would be cool when i can use flex for building desktop gadgets.
last time i checked it was not possible to drop content to air at all.
hence a cs4 floating icon which offers all programs as icons for opening a file on mouse move over.
