Desktop grid start out of screen

Hi, I recently connected an external HDTV on my computer and moved temporarily the Menu Bar on the external screen to use Front Row on it. Since, I moved the Menu Bar back on my built-in LCD.
My problem is that the desktop icons (like external HD ones and such) are now slightly shifted out of the screen, as if the grid was starting out the screen (or based on the resolution of the HDTV). Tweaking the Desktop's View Options didn't help...
Any ideas are to restore the default behaviour and get my icons lined up properly?

try resetting finder preferences. delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. then control-option-click on finder in the dock and choose "relaunch".

From what I can gather you have a few apps that only display "Waiting". The following is a past discussion that dealt with a similar issue, the answer may help you as well:

Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

When it goes full screen try moving the mouse up to top right of scren & see if there a double diagonal Arrow to click on.
On the other see if it's the silly implentation of Spaces/Mission Control/Expose in ML...

IMac starts with fan, screen stays black

When attempting to start my iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor), fans come on but screen stays black. A couple minutes later, the fans rev up and run very quickly and loudly. This started happening when:
1. One day the screen showed a green question mark with a message indicating that the computer needed to be restarted in a box
2. Green lines were all across the screen
3. I forced it to shut down by holding down the power button
4. When I attempted to start it back up the fans started but the screen stayed black
5. After a couple of minutes, the fans revved up
This has been happening ever since. One time the computer started to the desktop but everything was frozen. I have reset the PMU, checked the diagnostic LEDs, reset the PRAM-basically everything suggested. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Strongly recommend that you update to OS 10.4.11. Your system info confirms you are still using the basic Tiger OS.

Multi-label desktops not starting (Solaris 10u9)

I'm attempting to create a multi-label trusted JDS desktop setup, where each workspace is tied to a specific label, which is in turn associated with a specific zone. I'm starting out simple and just creating one label and one non-global zone. I'm able to have the zone autoboot, use "smc" to associate the zone with the label, and set a workspace to that particular label. However, the desktop does not show up in that workspace. All I get is a background with the color that I've assigned to that particular label.
I can start nautilus manually from within the zone after setting DISPLAY to ":0.0", and the desktop will show up in the workspace. However the desktop running in the global zone seems to use the same configuration files as the non-global zone (i.e. if I change the background in one workspace, the other changes as well). I'm also unable to use "gnome-panel" to run any apps in the non-global zone from the Launch menu.
I'm using Solaris 10u9. Seems like there is something rudimentary and simple that I'm missing. I've been at this for way too long and it's driving me nuts. Thanks for the help!

Listener starting out of ASM home?

Hello,
I have a fresh install of 10.2.0.3 RAC running on Solaris 2.9.
We have older 10.2.0.3 RAC installs where the ASM HOME and the RDBMS HOME(10.2.0.3) shared the same home and our Listener started under the .../10.2.0/network/admin directory like any other stand-alone database.
We separated the ASM HOME and RDBMS home on our new install and the Listener now automatically starts out the ASM HOME instead during bootup.
Is it okay to run the Listener out of the ASM HOME? It appears to work but our GRID is finding Listeners under both spots (RDBMS and ASM HOME)
Can I changed it to start out of the RDBMS home like all our other Listeners? If so, where does Oracle look during bootup of RAC to set this and how can I change it?

So it appears that the variable ACTION_SCRIPT is being set to the ASM home during CRS startup which would explain why it's using that home.
Is there a way to change that variable? I'd like to start the listeners out of the RDBMS home like all my other databases.
I'll dig around and post back here if I find it first.

IPhoto Pictures Start Out Blurry And Become Clear 10 Seconds Later

I've long been aggravated by the fact that when I'm browsing images in iPhoto, they start out looking pixelated and low-res for about 10 seconds before becoming clear. If I'm in Organize or Edit mode, and have the picture on the screen full sized, and then I hit the right or left arrow, I get an ugly, pixelated enlarged thumbnail and then about 10 seconds later the high-res version finally loads and it looks clear. This makes browsing my photos a real pain, as I have a 10 second wait before I can see each picture in high-res. This has always been a problem with iPhoto - every version I've had since it came out.
How do I fix this? Is the app just horrible at memory management? I have a very fast computer. Can't iPhoto anticipate that I'm going to view the next photo over (left or right) and pre-load the large size before I get to it?

There is a lot less lag on later versions. Face it, iPhoto 4 hasn't been in active development for more than 6 years. I wouldn't hold my breath on an update.

You can do this if you create a key with your face or start with green screening it.
Use a garbage matte if it is static.

The desktop grid - 1 problem

Hey is there any way to have small desktop icons without downloaded or moved icons getting caught underneath the dock? setting the grid's margins or something like that, 3rd party app possibly??
Amazing how Apple could overlook this annoying behavior!

don't know why i did not think of this before... duhhh...
perhaps a permissions problem or a settings thing.
try this... can u make another user, set the desktop up the same way.. put some files in there, re-create the problem under a new user.
if so, it may point to a prefs file or something.
the next step can be to trash the finder prefs file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
you can drag that sucker to the desktop to the desktop, then log out. log back in and try to replicate problem.
if that changes zilch, then u can put the file back (if you had a whole bunch of settings u need back in place that u dont want to re-set as you go).
lastly, have you repaired permissions on your disk lately? might do that anyway - perhaps first.

My G5 won't start beyond grey screen

Hi Folks,
My G5 won't start beyond grey screen with the logo on it. The fans simply get louder and louder.
It acts as our server and the raid drive on it had been having privileges problems. One person on another forum suggested I run Disc Utility to repair permissions. I did so, there were a couple of minor permissions fixed. After that, the Mac would not re-boot.
I got the DVD door open and ran Disk Warrior on the drive, the files and the hardware. It claimed to repair a few minor issues and there were no problems with the hardware. It still wouldn't boot, so I reset the SMU. ?Still no start, so I reset the PRAM. Still the same.
Any ideas?
G5, OSX 10.5.6, 6 GB ram, approximately 100 GB free on system drive, over 800 GB free on RAID.

I'm having the same problem though I'm running 10.4.11. After getting to about the point you are at did an "Archive and Install" but after about a day of working fine, it had a kernal panic and I couldn't boot past the gray screen again. I took it to my local Apple Store and they ran 2 hours of diagnostics w/o finding anything wrong. They told me to do an "Erase and Install." That is where I am at now because I can't get the machine to boot from my 10.3.5 Install CD--it hangs at the black screen when I try to boot from the CD by holding down "C" at boot. This is the original system software that came with the machine at purchase.
There are many posts out there about bad RAM causing these kinds of problems. You might want to search around for those posts.
Good luck and I'm going to watch this thread hoping that someone will have a suggestion that will help me too.

I had the same issue... mine was memory related... try removing all but 2 of the memory sticks, rebutting and pressing F9 and running the test. If it passes, restart and try to start up. Out of the 4 memory sticks that I have, one of them was bad and was causing the issue you wrote. Hope this helps
