I try to download latest flashplayer. It ends up in my pictures libary as a download. the flashplayer dont work. Where and how do I get it set up right? thank you

It sounds as though you are experiencing an issue with an Apple ID and authorizations. Based on your post, it sounds like you are familiar with the authorizing and deauthorizing process. The Apple ID in question (your wife's email) may be originating from the iPhone you are attempting to update. Is it possible that your wife created an Apple ID or iCloud account which is signed in on that iPhone? The downloads are probably .dmg files (disk images). You would open the disk image (double-click it) to find the application or an installer. If it's the application itself, you then drag the application to your Applications folder to "install" it. If it's an installer, double-click the installer to run the installer that installs the application.
NOTE: If you iMac is Intel, it's not a PPC G5.

When you attempt to HotSync, what happens? Any error message?
IIRC, the internet connection part was nothing important.. Are you saying Palm Desktop does not appear on your computer if you choose "No."?
Is the HotSync Manager running? Can you see the red and blue icon in the tool tray of the PC?
Might try a "Clean Uninstall"/reinstall of Palm Desktop.
Here are the clean uninstall instructions.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy. Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste. You can skip the first step above because of the data not being current.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System registry.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here but if they are delete them)

Next reboot your computer
Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you did not sync before you create a hotsync name.

You are downloading the Flash installer, which I think itself downloads another installer, which may again download something else that has to run. Adobe's installer is one of the worst pieces of software on the PLANET.
That said, the problem is that you are not actually running the installer and letting it update Flash. Doing so will force you to quit Safari in the process.
Go look for whatever Adobe downloaded to your Downloads folder and run it.

People here usually recommend uninstalling any antivirus on a Mac. They usually cause more problems than the actual malware they are supposed to stop. In many cases, they don't actually stop malware. There are only a handful of antivirus programs that aren't actually scammer themselves.
lllaass is almost certainly correct. Unfortunately, it is impossible to tell the difference between a malware installer and the flash player installer. Any time you get a message to install or update Flash - don't do it! Instead, close the window and download Flash directly from Adobe. If you get any Flash update windows, always close them. Then, go to System Preferences > Flash Player and update Flash yourself. Never, ever give your password to any pop-up window that you did not initiate expressly for that purpose.

The exclamation mark means that the app has lost the link to the actual file.
First step: try and make sure the iPhoto Library is working correctly:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

What keeps creating ~/Desktop and ~/Downloads?

Both ~/Desktop and ~/Downloads folders are spontaneously created, despite my continued removal of them. I don't use a desktop environment (I use dwm + xinit).
I'm fairly sure that ~/Desktop is being created at boot, but I haven't actually tested it yet (don't want to reboot, lots of man pages open).
I thought either Firefox or Transmission were creating ~/Downloads, so I tested it and found the folder (as expected). Then I tried to replicate this and couldn't... in other words, I have no idea what's creating it, but it seems to be fairly unpredictable. :S

If you don't have a ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs file then you must create it. You use this file to give apps such as Firefox an alternate location for directories that the app insists that you must have. Here's my user-dirs.dirs:
$ cat ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="/home/casey/"
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="/home/casey/downloads"
XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="/home/casey/"
XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR="/home/casey/shared/"

XDG_MUSIC_DIR="/home/casey/music"

As far as I know, you don't need to install the extra/xdg-user-dirs package for this to work – I haven't installed that package. It works here to stop the directory creation annoyance using no DE, I have just Openbox as a WM.
