Desktop Icon Sort Order Reversed

On my 15" MBP, I noticed that all my icons are being sorted in reverse order. No matter whether I select sort by size, date created, modified, etc, all the icons are sorted in reverse.
Any ideas how I can fix? I've already tried deleting the finder preference file, but no luck.
To clarify, this is not an issue in a finder window, but on the actual desktop itself.
Thanks!

Same problem here. Click on empty area of desktop, then keep arranged by name...
Alphabetization is fine, EXCEPT, the A column is the on the RIGHT, and moves alphabetically down and to the LEFT. English alphabet and column order should be start at LEFT and move down and RIGHT.
In other words, alphabetical order is backwards. Any help?
Thanks in advance.

  • Default photo sort order on IPhone syncing with iPhoto

Is there any way to get the Photos app on my IPhone 4 with iOS 6 to stop displaying my photos and events with the OLDEŚT pics and events at the top - displayed first?.
This means I can only get to my most recent events after extensive screen scrolling through my library of 4700 photos.
I have iPhoto on my iMac successfully configured to show most recent events first (at the top) but when I perform an ITunes photo sync this sort order reverses !

  • Reverse Sort Order of "Keep Arranged By-" on Desktop

Is there a method for reversing the sort order of arranged items on the desktop? When using "Keep Arranged By Date Created/Modified", newer items are placed at the top.
How can I reverse this order (so newer items are placed at the bottom)?

If you have a two button mouse just click on the Desktop, then right click to bring up the contextual menu. You can also hold the control key and do a regular click to get the menu. The last item on the contextual menu is "Show View Options"--select it. The view options pane will open, and the last item in it is "Arrange by:" with a drop down list. Click the little arrows to bring up the list of various arrangements. The very first one is None, which is what I prefer. Select it and then arrange things the way you want them by hand.

  • Change Label Sort Order (in icon view)

How can I change the order that labels are sorted in?
In list view, labels are sorted in alphabetical order, so you can change the order by changing the label names, but labels are always in the same order in icon view - and it's not a particularily logical order. It isn't alphabetical, and it isn't in order of the colours (grey - green - purple - blue - yellow - red - orange) and now in Mountain Lion (I just upgraded from Snow Leopard) I can't even keep them arranged in reverse order so the ugly grey is at the bottom.
Is there any way to change the label sort order for icon view?

    Hello there, SECbc.
The following Knowledge Base article shows how to sort in Finder:
    Mac Basics: The Finder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2470
    Specifically:
In any view, you can organize the window by clicking the item arrangement button and choosing one of the ways to group items.

  • Mavericks 10.9.5 Unable to move desktop icon. Sort By = None.

    ON version 10.9.5 Mavericks.
This was working but the past few days is no longer.
I am unable to move a desktop icon (i.e. drag it and move it into another folder, etc).
    View/Sort BY = None.

Take these steps if the cursor changes from an arrow to a white "prohibited" symbol when you try to move an icon on the Desktop.
Sometimes the problem may be solved just by logging out or restarting the computer. Try that first, if you haven't already done it. Otherwise, continue.
Select the icon of your home folder (a house) in the sidebar of a Finder window and open it. The Desktop folder is one of the subfolders. Select it and open the Info window. In the General section of the window, the Kind will be either Folder  or something else, such as Anything.
If the Kind is Folder, uncheck the box marked Locked. Close the Info window and test.
If the Kind is not Folder, make sure the Locked box is not checked and that you have Read & Write privileges in the  Sharing & Permissions section. Then close the Info window and do as follows.
Back up all data before continuing.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo Desktop
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You should get a new line ending in a dollar sign ($). Quit Terminal.
    Relaunch the Finder.
If the problem is now resolved, and if you use iPhoto, continue.
Quit iPhoto if it's running. Launch it while holding down the option key. It will prompt you to select a library. Choose the one you want to use (not the Desktop folder.)

  • CS6 Icon View Sort Order

Is there a way to change the sort order in Icon view?   I want it to adheire to what ever sort order I had in column view, so that i can see clips from multiple cameras in timecode order next to each other, but instead I seem to get all the clips from one camera, then the next camera and so on.
It's making it almost useless for skimming through clips in chronological order from multiple cameras.
    What am I missing?
Is this yet 'another' feature request I'm going to have to make?

I don't think I'd have it set up to select clips, I just can't think of a situation where I'd want some items in a bin organised but others not. Right click on background of bin  with a contextual menu. Mosty I'd want to sort by name, timecode, online/offline, and possibly codec (for splitting up proxies versions from camera originals). People could always copy their bin before sorting it, so they could have one organised as a storyboard and another organised in... well... a good way, is how I'd put it!
What if the items on the contextual menu were definied by the list headings a user had set up in List View? That way if someone had some strange criteria they needed to sort by they could add it, but would also be able to keep the length of the menu in check if needed? Customisable yet contained.
And definitely the ability to add keyboard shortcuts for the various sort functions. More keyboard shortcuts in general please! Track patching would be great. And there's a lot of functions that need the particular panel they relate to to be highlighted before the keyboard shortcut works.... I would LOVE if this went away. If I hit the key for Toggle All Target Video On, I pretty much want it to just turn on the target video, and I'd really love it to do it without having to click on the sequence first. Lots of examples of this sort of thing, basically anything that's a "panel" function. Some of it is just kooky, for example I have "Source Clip: Previous" mapped as a shortcut key. When I hit this key, of course it relates to the Source monitor! Having to bring up the source monitor AND THEN hit the keyboard shortcut is just unnecessarily cumbersome, and often ends up in a situation where it's not just an extra keystroke, it's several extra keystrokes because you end up having to bring up a panel to do a function, and then bring up the previous panel to be able to continue what you were doing. Lots of extra keystrokes that I think could easily be made more efficient. I've submitted a request for this as well, I called it Keyboard Shortcuts Should Always Work. (Sorry, kind of wandered off topic there).

  • How to reverse hide desktop icons.scpt

this is a script i downloaded from some website i cannot find now, to hide the desktop icons... i did so successful when i clicked play.
now i kinda want it the old way where the desktop icons are displayed on the desktop! i remember reading that i can change some element of the below script to display the desktop icons again, but forgot what it is...
another one can help? please? thanks a lot..
    try

    end if
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool " & NewSet
    tell application "Finder"
    quit
    try
    activate
    end try
    end tell
i tried changing 1 to 0 and running the script but it didnt work.
hope i didnt damage my os x or sth....

    Jeffrey,
The script worked as a toggle for me. When I ran it the first time my desktop icons hid; I ran it a second time and the icons were back. No need to change any values.
Try pasting the same script into your Script Editor and hit the Run button. Look for the icons to reappear. If you decide to save the script as an application you should, for obvious reasons, save it to somewhere other than your desktop. You can place it in your dock afterward and run it from there, e.g.
See if that works... Good luck!

  • Sort order in Photo Browser

The sort order of photos appearing in Photo Browser while in Mail has been, until recently, showing the most recent photos first.
Today, it started showing the oldest photos first.
Any ideas about what I did to change the order, and how I can reverse the current sort order to return to the prior state?
I'd like to have the newest photos appear first, as they have for some time.

    Thanks Steven,
Ok I was only half wrong so they are in alphabetical order, but not numerical order. In the Mac finder window in list or icon view it sorts automatically in alphabetical and numerical. Question 1: Is there no way to change the sorting order in Premiere?
I'm still living with a few projects that were shot on tape and where the previous video editor auto numbered digitized clips. Question 2: I'm not going to redigitize this project in Premiere, but for another tape based project would I be able to set up this numbering scheme you mention?
The mac finder sorts them correctly due to an update they did to the OS a long time ago that means it recognizes 10 as coming after 9 rather than needing to put 09 for it to work. Most systems don't work that way.
You could always download a simple batch renaming app, I think there's a few around, and just rename them with zeros in front. Would probably take you about ten minutes tops, including downloading the app.
As for sorting them within Premiere, in list mode you just click the header of the column you want to sort by. But if you're sorting by name it will display them in the order they're currently in, because that is technically correct.

  • Sort order of file names in list windows

Why is the sort order of file names in the File > Open File...

  • Sort order switches when changing from List to Thumbnail View

I can't seem to get the Thumbnail view to "lock" to the same sort order as the list view.  I arrange by file name (or ingest date, or reverse media duration, or any of the other sortable metadata fields) in list view, but then when I click to the thumbnail view, the order seems to arbitrariliy change to some sort of preset.  What's worse, it appears to be changing to something that's in a jumbled order.
This isn't a big deal if I only have 10 clips.  If I have 100, or 1,000 clips though, they have to be in a sortable order for the thumbnail view to be of any use.
    Thanks,
    Eli

    Hi,
Thanks for your post. Our current design doesn't support keeping order between list view and icon view. It would be good if you can drop that as a feature request / bug into the the forum.

  • Desktop Icon does not launch program on Mac after download

Purchased from Adobe via internet.  Akamai interface downloaded and then Photoshop Elements 11.  Both icons on Mac desktop.  Double clicking on PE 11 does not launch program.  Is it fully downloaded?  I get Read Me file in four languages as well as a PE 11 icon after double clicking the desktop icon.
    Thanks

Thank you.  The download directions did not include the part about double clicking the desktop Elements icon, double clicking the elements icon within the box that opened and then clicking on "install."  Okay, so i am not computer savvy, but the directions gave the impression that the download was complete after following the supplied instructions.  Who knew?  I did not want to duplicate a download, so was apprehensive to take this action.  Did it anyway out of frustration and it worked.  Obviously, the application was not entirely downloaded.   Now, i get to learn a whole new application as IPhoto bites!  I spent hours and hours, days upon days scanning and editing old family photos in IPhoto only to learn that the program re-sorted my photo order when i tried to make copies for family.  I lost my edits, lost my photo notes and had to retrieve my entire library before presenting several hundred multi generational family photos to everyone in my extended family!  Hopefully, this application will be an improvement!
Thanks again for taking the time to respond!

  • Left align desktop icons to keep image uncovered

All right, this similar question has popped up a few times with, generally, two responses:
It's totally ridiculous that someone would care where the desktop icons end up by default, and
Just turn off snap to grid, and move the icons manually
In response to the first common answer, the reason I would like to set all my icons to "read" top-down-left-to-right instead of the top-down-right-to-left methodology is because I have a desktop image framed with a person on the right; therefore, as the desktop fills up - the person is quickly covered with icons. While this is a cute game and motivator for keeping the desktop uncluttered - it's just annoying to have to. (And, before you mention it, I don't want to flip the image, because the person is wearing a t-shirt with writing - which would then be reversed...I'm a designer with a bit of OCD for that sort of thing.)
In response to the second (and most) common answer, this is fine for "permanent" artifacts, but the items on my desktop (in my desktop folder) are temporary - though not under deadline - to be moved somewhere else, be it the trash or to another folder. I also take a lot of screen shots - which also appear up-down-right-to-left.
So, imagjne you have a picture of your husband or wife and they are holding your child in their left arm. While your spouse is centered and completely unfettered unless things get out of hand on the desktop - your child is constantly having files put over top of him or her...it's the best I got.
Bascially, I'm looking for a third option here. There has to be a setting - even if it's only accessible through Terminal - governing the automatic placement of icons as they are added to the desktop folder and translated to the virtual desktop.

    Maybe try:
    double_buffer yes
    own_window yes
    own_window_transparent yes
    own_window_type normal
    own_window_hints undecorate,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

It doesn't seem to be an options or configuration thing, maybe more like some sort of corruption? The Panels are fine. I have checked desktop and Nautilus options using Gconf and tried recreating ~/.gconf etc. The only suspicious occurrence was when, in the middle of a pacman -Syu, I was thrown back to the GDM login prompt. I just logged in again and did another pacman -Syu and everything seemed okay.
By the way, running Nautilus as root does show root's desktop okay, but Nautilus still crashes.
Any help would be most welcome for a very frustrating problem!

Also, the problem persists after restarting X, logon, reboot, power-off ...

Uh-oh, seems like this problem could go wider than I thought. There's a fairly lengthy thread on the Ubuntu forums which smells the same, for example:

Got it! I can get a crash with this:
    Code:
    mkdir ~/test

I'm going to leave a comment in the bug.

  • All my desktop icons are Adobe Reader icons, can't access related files

I was trying to open a file this morning, and when a pop-menu asked what application I wanted to choose (from a list) to open it, I clicked on Adobe Reader - just as a guess.   After that,  just about all my desktop icons are Adobe icons, and when I click on them, the pop up menus says I can't access the file.   These icons also show up on my menu of all my MS Office programs like Outlook, Word, Excel,  etc.
Tech support at Adobe recommended I use System Restore, but it also is now an Adobe icon, so I can't open it.    If anyone can help reverse this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
This also happened to me this morning. Now all my icons are PDF symbols and Reader opens when I try to open any other program. I uninstalled Reader it and it fixed itself but when I reinstalled the program the same issue occurred.
I wanted to make PDF reader the default application when openning PDF's vs. Distiller, tinkered and broke my computer.
Any clues on how to bring everything back to normaL?
