Desktop icons change their size on their own

The icons on my 2011 Macbook Pro 17" just started to change their size on their own. I first thought that I've pressed a shortcut or something but sometimes the icons will just go to maximum or minimum size on their own. Then I have to go to the menue and set it back to the normal size.
Can somebody tell me what to do ? It happens 3-4 times a day and drives me crazy.

  • Is there a way to prevent an end-user from changing their own password?

All you guru's out there, I need your help. Is there a way to prevent an end-user from changing their own password? Is there a function or procedure I can create or what?

In this case, you do not want someone (whoever they are DBA etc) to connect as that
particuler user to change the password.Yes, but I wouldn't expect the users to[i] know that password. The connnect would be handled automatically, behind the scenes.
The clear implication of the OP's question and response was that users would not be allowed to change their own passwords. I'm guessing this is in response to a policy that says users mustn't have simple passwords like 123abc or mom. In such a scenario a better approach would be to apply regexp to a user's password to ensure it contains a mix of letters, numbers, punctuation, etc to achieve the desired level of complexity.
So questions, should not be regarded as daft Agreed, but the same is unfortunately not always true of business decisions. As the OP has told us not to ask we cannot know why they want to do this. Personally, I think a user's individual password should always be their responsibility; anything else strikes me as insecure. YMMV.

  • Users changing their own passwords

we have set up an Open Directory and are going through the steps to deploy. One issue we have yet to find an elegant solution to is user's passwords and changing them on a regular basis. Many of the contracts we deal with stipulate user passwords are to be changed every 45 days.
Now - there is no way we want our users monkeying around in Workgroup Manger changing their own passwords - and the last thing we on the IT team want to do is perform data entry tasks every couple of months to change everyone's password. Plus - for security reasons - this is a terrible idea.
so - is there an easy way to have a user update their password without going through Workgroup Manager?
    thanks

And you can set the password lifetime and reset and character-content policies in Server Admin > Open Directory > Policies > Passwords, if you've not already found that set of knobs.
I'd also suggest looking to two-factor or certificate-based approaches, if you're having requirements around password resets.

  • User's changing their own password

Is it possible to allow user to change their own password when logged onto a portal applicastion I have written ?

Presumably, the application you say you have written, is a Login Server partner application. So changing the user's password means changing it on the login server.
The URL that you need to go to, to do this, is something like: http://server.domain.com/pls/portal30_sso/portal30_sso.wwsso_app_user_mgr.change_password?p_done_url=xxxxx
Where xxxxx is the URL where you want control to go after the user submits their new password.

  • Control to Stop Users Changing their Own Employee Master Data

Hi all. I'm carrying out a security review of users on a SAP HR implementation as part of this we are looking at users that can change bank details, basic pay etc. I was wondering if there is a control in place on SAP that would stop a user with access to make changes from changing their own Basic Pay on the system. Thanks

    Hi Jonh,
Sure there is a way to stop it; you have to use infotype 0105 + security object P_PERN, please follow this link to get more details: HR Authorizations Backend v/s ESS
    Hope that helps,
    Best regards,

  • Desktop icons change size when I move the cursor

Intermittently, when I move the cursor with my trackpad, the desktop icons change size—minimize going from 44 to 16 icon size. This happens with the Finder in the foreground or background.
I think there's a fix, but I cannot find it.
    All help appreciated,
    Bill

Press Command-Option-8. Someone apparently turned on Zoom. (See System Preferences > Universal Access and click the Options button next to Zoom for more information.)

  • Desktop Icons Change Positions After Restart

    Hi,
After I inadvertently synced my computer with another Mac computer my icons change position after restart. I was trying to sync another computer to mine.
I have tried the usual suggestions of taking out com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist and letting the system create these new files but the problem still persists. I also checked the Finder > View > Show View Options and arrange by none is still selected.
Does anyone have a suggestion how I can fix this problem? Will I have to go back in time with Time Machine and restore my entire system to solve this?
I can't operate with the desktop icons changing positions like this.
    Thanks,
    Pacecom

Delete the hidden .DS_Store file associated with your Desktop folder. Launch the Terminal.app (in /Applications/Utilities/), copy & paste the following command into the window that pops up, hit the return key, quit the Terminal.app, OPTION-click and hold the Dock's Finder icon, and select Relaunch:
    *rm ~/Desktop/".DS_Store"*
Now, set the Desktop as desired, log out and back in, and the Desktop should be as it was as you last set it.

  • How to enable ebs users to change their own passwords.

    Hi,
Is there any profile option which will enable the users to change their passwords on their own from EBS front-end applications...?Users can change their password from the application itself (Edit > Preferences > Change Password).

  • Client updating/changing their own form data

We've added some fields to our form for a 4th day of volunteering after many people have already signed up.  We want them to be able to sign up for the added day.
Is there a way to for individuals to update their own data on their form or do we have to do it from the backside?
    This is our form:
    https://adobeformscentral.com/?f=OH3E-aGP4i0WAwYAhSt3BA
We added the option for Monday after 50 or so people had already signed up.
There are lots of required fields and show/hide fields within the form.
We don't want duplicates which is what would happen if I just asked people to repeat fillingout the whole form.
    Any options???
    Terri

Users cannot go back to the form and update their data. I would just create a new, shorter form that has only their name/email address and info about 4th day. You can then merge the data sets from the 2 forms using the email address.
Hope that makes sense and is helpful...

  • Desktop icons change during startup

When I start my MBP, I've noticed some of the icons on the desktop (say a spreadsheet) have a nice looking, easily recognizable image, but as the menu bar loads, some of the icons change, to a something different and usually lose their color, going to back and white.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Regards,
    Jp

    HI James,
Not certain what could cause that but try booting from your install disk and run Disk Utility.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
And run the Apple Hardware Test also. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2684

  • Why have all my desktop icons changed to PDF when I installed Reader?

I just installed Adobe Reader, and all of my desktop icons have changed, and nothing will open.  How can I fix this?

    Hi Carol ,
This seems to happen just because the file associations of the files and folders have been changed and because of that you are experiencing this issue .
To change file associations you could refer the following link and see if that fixes the issue .This link is for windows 7 .
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/change-default-programs#1TC=windows-7
Please follow the given steps and see if that works for you .

  • If I mak Firefox my default browsr, will the appearance of my Desktop Icons change? I had this problem with Goog. Chrom. I am using Wind. XP and Inter. Expl. 8.

When I made Google Chrome my default browser, the appearance of my desktop Icons was (nearly) completely changed. Will I experience this if I make Firefox my default browser? I could just go ahead and try Firefox as my default browser and see what happens, but I am running Mozilla Fences and have spent a lot of time getting the appearance of the desktop icons just the way I want them to be.

Firefox shouldn't change the icon of anything except files you set for it to open as deafult. For example, if you have an HTML file on your desktop and set Firefox to open it by default, it will change the icon to Firefox.

  • Illustrator desktop icons change after trying Inkscape?

A couple of days ago, just out of curiosity, I tried out Inkscape. Of course, I was unimpressed, trashed it, and removed XQuartz.
Afterwards, I found that all of my Illustrator desktop icons had changed to odd square generic document icons with the "To place or open this file in other applications..." text in the preview. Doing a "save as copy" from the file didn't change this. Creating a new Illustrator file and saving created a normal preview, but it was still displayed in that same kind of square icon.
Otherwise, Illustrator works fine, no problems I can see -- it's just that the desktop icons for Illustrator files aren't standard Illustrator file icons anymore. A minor nitpicky annoyance, granted, but I'd be interested in knowing how I can fix this.
I'm running Illustrator CS6 on a late 2013 MacBook Pro with OSX 10.8.5.
    Thanks in advance,

Just tried it a moment ago after seeing your reply. Didn't seem to work. In fact, as I recall, that was the first thing I did the other night.
The files were still opening into Illustrator OK, but not displaying standard .ai document icons, so associations weren't really the problem, from the looks of it. Seems as if something else somewhere has jerked around the icons for .ai documents.

  • Desktop Icons change at start-up

This is just a minor problem but it is bothering me. Everytime (or it seems like everytime) I (re)start my computer, I get to the desktop and the Macintosh HD icon has moved from it's original location in the upper right of the desktop. What is the reason for this? I find this quite odd. I recently had to do an erase and install so anything I am noticing that is out of the ordinary I am raising questions about. Thank you.

    Hi mrescobar11!
Positioning Desktop icons, too close to the edge of the screen, will cause them to reposition themselves on restart.
Positioning them too close to each other, will cause this as well.
Depending on how many you have displayed, and the size of your screen, the Size of the icons, as well as the Text size & Label position can also factor in. Experiment with these settings.
My Desktop icons do not reposition themselves, and this is how I have my Desktop View Options set.
    Icon size: 32 x 32
    Text size: 12 pt
    Label position: Bottom
I have none of the following options selected.
    Snap to grid
    Show item info
    Show icon preview
    Keep arranged by
A different configuration may work for you. Experiment with the options until you find something suitable.
Click on an open area of your Desktop.
From the Finder's Toolbar, position your cursor over "View" and pull down to "Show View Options", and click. Or use the Command + J keys.
