Desktop icons missing after wake up from sleep

I use my old Mac Pro with Lion installed controlled from my new Mac Pro in a setup with Apple Remote Desktop. Everytime the old Mac wakes up after a sleep all desktop icons is missing. I asume that they are "off screen". Further more all Finder dialogs will be hidden in the lower left corner of the screen and impossible to click on "ok" buttons.
I doesn't help to change the monitor resolution. I have been doing so many different things and been looking on the net for long time!
The old Mac runs Vienna Ensemble Pro and this app will not let you quit without "asking" again and again "do you want to quit" and so on. Finally I have to go to the computer room next to my studio and turn off the machine!!
Any hints to why this is happening and how to correct it is very much appreciated!

    hello,
after update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.
the used ports appear to be "killed"; the unused USB ports seem to work, but the Mac works in slow-motion.
The only "solution" is to restart my Mac.
    - SMC-reset, PRAM-reset or repairing user rights had no positive effect; what is the solution - a bug-fix-update???

I have a mac mini (A1283) with OS 10.7.4. Upon upgrading to 10.7.5 it did not start up again. Instead, the light was on and the hard drive did not start up. The light on the connected USB mouse was not lit.
    My solution:
    Cold start with Command-v pressed.
This should start Verbose mode (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492 ).
What happened on my mac mini was that the grey startup screen with the Apple logo appeared for a long while before the login screen came.
Maybe Cmd-v set open firmware params and fixed some corruption.
Anyway: my mac mini works again.

  • Macbook Pro Freezes after wake up from sleep

My Macbook Pro 5,5 with mountian Lion freezes after waking up from sleep. i have 8 GB RAM and did a hardware test wich was passed. I also have a SSD of 240 GB in the optical drive. this is my startup drive. Another HD is my workdrive. The first thing I see is that the Airport does not come back and it seems that is does not wake up. After that the whole finder freezes.
    What can be the problem?

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • Application launches fail after wake up from sleep when switching from one open directory to another

I take my MacBook Pro back and forth from home to work.  Open Directory is set up at both locations running on Snow Leopard server.  These two locations are entirely separate domains and IP networks.  The only thing that is the same is my username and password, which is the same in both locations.
If I put my machine to sleep in one location and move to the other location and wake it up, I can usually launch one application, then no other applications launch and the machine is pretty much frozen up except for mouse cursor movement.  Using command-shift-escape and relaunching the finder doesn't help.
It is as if the launch daemon has been made inoperative.  Apps just sit and bounce.
Should one be able to log in one one network with open directory. Close all applications, move to an entirely different network, and wake up from sleep and continue working?  The login/password is identical on both open directory setups.
Both home and work are set up so the users can "travel" and the machines are not "bound" to the open directory server.
I've started using the "other" login box to login in which I think keeps the machine more independent of open directory and that seems to work better for moving between networks.
    Any ideas and/or comment welcome.
(my DNS seems fine in both environments.  running changeip gets "success" in both places)

After reading another post that popped up under "More Like This" after I posted this I may have found at least a temporary fix.  Unplugging and reseating the MDP adapter in the MacPro didn't accomplish anything but unplugging/reseating the HDMI plug in the Viewsonic brought it back to life.
I guess I can live with this but it would be nice knowing that there's a more permanent fix for this.

  • Screen problem after wake up from sleep

About three weeks ago I posted a problem with the display coming back to life after waking up from sleep. I said this happened after the 10.5.2 update. This turned out to be not quite accurate. I actually ran all the waiting updates, so I really don't know which one to finger.
Today, I again ran the 10.5.2 update by itself. Everything is fine. Software Update then identified seven more updates to do, some familiar, some not. I have done all except one, one at a time, and have had no problems with the display coming on after the computer wakes up.
One more to go: Leopard Graphics Update. This is v1.0 for this update, and here is my question:
Before I run this update, and face another possible day-long re-install and re-update session, has anyone experienced the problem with the display remaining dark after running this update? I hate to do the update just to see if it causes the problem if there is some information kicking around about this.
Many thanks again for any help or comment.

    Hi rohitgu,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I would suggest using the following article for troubleshooting the display flickering on your iMac. I would specifically Reset the system and Reset the resolution. I know you have done some good troubleshooting already. Have you reset the SMC as well as the PRAM? I also see that you checked the resolution on your computer, but have you started in Safe Mode and adjusted the resolution? Please use the following article as a reference.
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
    I hope this helps,
    -Joe

  • Output volume at maximum after wake-up from sleep

    Hi,
I very often find my sound output volume at maximum level after my MacPro (10.6.2) wakes up from sleep. And I always have it set at about 20%. An unexpected 100% is overwhelming loud... I have no idea how to solve it. Anyone with a possible solution?
    Mr. Pen

I use a little Preference Pane called Startup Sound which lets you set a default startup chime level. It hasn't been updated for ages, nor tested on 10.6, but it seems to work fine. You could give it a quick test to see if it helps.

  • How to take a photo after wake up from sleep

    There are two questions:
how to create an automator to take a photo by isight in silent mode.
How to run this automator during the machine wake up from sleep.
    Thanks a lot.

How do you make iAlertU take a photo and email it to you whenever the computer wakes up? I only know how to use it when you "arm" it as an alarm, which can get annoying to do all the time. I just looked in their preferences and I don't think you can set it to email you a photo whenever it wakes up without being in alarm mode.

  • LX195 WHS High hardware interrupts after wake up from sleep

I have a HP-LX195 windows home server which is set to sleep every day between 2AM and 7 AM. On wake up from sleep the CPU usage is triggered to 35-40%. No tasks are executing during this period and if any they add up the original usage. Using process explorer notices these CPU utilization is due to hardware interrupts. Using kernrate noticed the high usage is on intelppm.sys.
I have determined this is due to sleep. If the server is kept running without sleep, the hardware interrupt is minimal on normal operations. But if i manually set the server to sleep and wake up, the usage triggers back to 35 or 40. The high cpu utilization doesn't go away until restart.
I have tested this with other LX195 and it seems consistent and repeatable. I have posted this on microsoft WHS forum as well. This doesn't happen with EX490.
Is it possible to get a fix from HP regarding the same. Thanks Raja

  • BSOD after wake up from sleep

I have upgrated RAM from 1x4 to 2x4gb recently. I noticed strange behaviour since then. It ONLY happens, when PC is on AC with baterry unplugged. When i close lid or simply make mi NB sleep, when i wake up after few seconds BSOD comes up. When I removed second 4gb ram modul, it didnt happen anymore, but i dont think that is due of additional RAM, because it happens only when on AC and battery removed. Should it be something with power management, or?
    Any ideas?

What antivirus are you running?  I've seen exactly that behavior (BSOD a few seconds after wake) with an antivirus program on several of my machines.
I had to fully uninstall the AV to get it to stop the BSOD.  Just turning it off didn't help.
This isn't likely but maybe worth a try.

  • Shared drives missing on wake-up from sleep

Following the Yosemite installation (clean) my MBP (late 2008) loses shared drives on the network when woken from sleep.
To give more detail, I have three TimeCapsules that are also used for shared data. One drive holds the iTunes library (now over 1TB in size) and the others are used for TimeMachine backups. Each drive has a shared volume on it, and it is these that "disappear" the following day when I wake the MBP from sleep. If I then restart the Mac, all the shares are back without issue. This only happens over night after the Mac has been put to sleep for an extended length of time.
When you run Airport Utility after the Mac wakes, it can 'see' the Internet, but none of the devices. Again, if you restart the Mac, Airport Utility then 'sees' the network correctly.
This looks to me like a power/network issue in Yosemite on older Macs.
Any one got thoughts on this?

As a work around, I have been keeping Airport Utility open all the time.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Loss of bluetooth connections after wake-up from sleep

    Hi,
I upgraded to Lion on my Macbook Pro i5 2.4GHz yesterday. Now every time when I wake up the computer from sleep, my apple bluetooth keyboard and mighty are not responsive at all. Even if I click on "connect" one by one, they still do not respond unless I turn off the bluetooth of the Macbook Pro and turn it back on again. I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem too and would really appreciate a solution. Lion is great. But this bug is quite annoying.
    Thanks in advance.
    Doniel

    1. Footnote to gtmagnet's suggestion:
I tried it (checking the option to allow Bluetooth devices to wake the computer), then I put my MBP to sleep. Then I manually switched off my Magic Trackpad (to conserve battery life). With the option in question checked, the physical act of switching off the Magic Trackpad immediately reawakened the MBP :/   (I appreciate that the MT automatically retreats into a low power state without needing to be switched off, but I prefer to get maximum mileage from my batteries).
That solution also didn't solve the original problem for me.
    2. Footnote to CWL's suggestion:
I then tried that solution (removed the MT and then re-added it), but that didn't work either. Perhaps I need to be more aggressive in seeking out and deleting system files - but this makes me nervous.
So for now, I'm still having to reboot every time the MT fails to be recognised on awakening from sleep. It would be really nice if Apple could just get over its blushes and issue the first batch of bug fixes without any further delay

  • IMac Mid 2010 kernel panic after wake up from sleep mode

    Hello.
One month ago starting my iMac Mid 2010 occasionally goes to kernel panic. When I click on mouse or press any key, system starting up, but very very slowly, (time on logon screen stay same without refresh) and after few minutes (from 1 - 10 minutes) kernel panic message is appear on screen. I have Mac OS 10.7.5 version installed.
Is there any tool to debug what is wrong. Windows OS has WinDebuger to detaily look inside to core dump and analyze it and in my experience almost allways is possible to detect root of problem.
First of all i was try HW diagnostic from DVD, succesfully passed. Then I run Permission Repair procedure, there were many folders and files with different ACL as system expected.
It is possible that graphic card driver is wrong or has bug from my point of laic view.
I have minimum application with kext installed into system:
    VMware fusion
    NTFS-3g ( long time same version )
There is part of long kernel panic message:
