Desktop Manager 4.7 crash

Frequently after any synchronization I get an Application Error which causes Desktop Manager 4.7 to crash.  The error is a standard Windows access protection error:
DesktopMgr.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x38f2f511" referenced memory at "0x38b82004".  The memory could not be "read" .
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
I am synchronizing a BB 8120 Pearl v.4.3.0.72 (platform 2.6.0.43) with Outlook 2007 on Windows XP SP3.  I sync just the Address Book and Calendar with default settings.  My BB is connected using USB, it is using BIS via Vodafone UK and Wi-Fi is turned on and connected.  This also used to happen with Desktop Manager 4.6 (which is why I upgraded).  I've tried reinstalling the software.  I also "deleted all user settings" when uninstalling the previous version.
Anyone know what's going on?

Clearly BB tech support either don't read these forums or are next to useless.
By process of elimination, it appears that all of my problems with Desktop Manager and BBDevMgrDeviceListener stem from the Toshiba bluetooth driver installed on my Dell laptop.  Without BT enabled in the BIOS (or disabled in Device Manager) all of my desktop software runs fine.  When BT is running, the desktop software fails in strange ways including the random crash and the BBDevMgrDeviceListener process requiring a kill on shutdown.
I'm glad I figured out why it was broken but very disappointed that nobody from BB even made an initial response to the thread or attempted even the most basic trouble shooting.  Pretty poor effort really!

  • Desktop Manager v5.0 Crashing on Vista 32-bit with BB Tour

    Hi,
When Desktop Manager stops working halfway through the synchronization process. It does not matter if the sync is autoamtic (when the device is connected) or if i start it manually.
I am not sure if it is device related (Black Berry Tour 9630) or Windows related.
This is the Event Log from Windows:
    Event ID:      1000Task Category: (100)
Description:Faulting application DesktopMgr.exe, version 5.0.0.11, time stamp 0x4a4bd539, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e03821, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000afaf8, process id 0x181c, application start time 0x01ca164d01177d90.
     Has any one encountered this?
    Any solution?
    Thank you in advance.

I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

    Any Ideas???

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I've searched the public KBs for any hint of the various codes in your error log and haven't found anything as of yet. You may have better luck.
But, given that, I recommend a complete and clean start over...here's a process:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported that there are more registry keys to remove than are discussed in that KB
Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchronizing via USB):

  • FIXED - Desktop manager crashes when syncing with Notes 8

Hi - first post, so be kind!
Have installed desktop manager 5.0.1, and trying to sync with Notes 8 calender. When reading the calender, desktop manager always crashes with the following error:
    AppName: desktopmgr.exe     AppVer: 5.0.1.28     ModName: lnsections.dll
    ModVer: 7.1.1.129     Offset: 001a32ed
Have looked through forum and not seen a fix that seems obvious to fix this. Any help would be greatful!
    thanks.
***** seems I had a corrupted old calendar entry - after archiving all old entries, the sync now works *******

Connected to the USB, can you do a Restore > Advanced and select the critical databases?
Are you connected to the PC via USB to a rear PC USB port--not a USB hub, or front monitor port?

  • Desktop Manager 5.0.1 crashes on startup

I installed the Desktop Manager 5.0.1 off the CD that came with my new Blackberry Bold 9700, after first using Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs to remove the Desktop Manager 4.6 that I had previously installed with my old device. After installation, upon starting up Desktop Manager 5.0.1, the message "Before you begin, verify that your current Blackberry device is connected to your computer" appeared. Upon connecting my device to the computer, DTM 5.0.1 immediately crashed, with the message "Blackberry Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close."
I tried a clean uninstall (KB02206) and then a reinstall, with the same results.

Can I try installing DTM 6.0, even if the OS on my device is 5.0.0.602?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You're lucky.  I had DM 5.0.1 and upgraded to DM 6.  It didn't work so I did the clean uninstall multiple times and tried reinstalling both DM 6 and DM 5 (different times) and now neither works for me.

  • Desktop Manager crashes when opening backup file with critical information

I was on a trip and a family member triggered my Bold's secure wipe (wrong password 10 times).  I had made a back-up just before the trip and it contains very critical information.  When I try to do a restore with Desktop Manager (4.7.0.32, same version as used to make the backup), it crashes as soon as I select the backup file.  I tried opening the .ipd backup file from Advanced instead, with the handset disconnected, with the same crash result: "An unhandled win32 exception has occured in DesktopMgr.exe [4340]." where the number in the brackets is different every time.
Please help me, I will likely lose my job if I cannot restore the information from this backup!
Edit: I tried reinstalling the Desktop Manager, and same thing.  I even tried 4.6 instead of 4.7 and again, same thing.

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager crashes on connect of Tour on Vista 64-Bit

    Hi,
I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit with my Blackberry Tour 9630. I've been using the phone for a while, syncing it with no problem to my PC. Recently I connected it and once Blackberry Desktop Manager recognizes the phone, it takes a couple of seconds and then crashes.
I retrieved the following from the Event Viewer.
Faulting application DesktopMgr.exe, version 5.0.1.18, time stamp 0x4a8f1751, faulting module DesktopMgr.exe, version 5.0.1.18, time stamp 0x4a8f1751, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000e6535, process id 0x166c, application start time 0x01ca6994947f0712.
I've tried uninstalling Desktop Manager entirely (as well as removing registry entry keys), reinstalling it again, deleting out the whole Intellisync folder, etc. all to no avail.
    What else can I do?
    Thank you.

  • BB Desktop Manager crashes trying to sync BB 8900 T-Mobile

I work with the tech support for my company's IT department.  We are tasked with providing support for any technical issue our users encounter.  I am working with one user who is having issues with his BB Desktop Manager crashing out with a generic error whenever he tries to do a sync.  Here are some of his details...
He was using BB Desktop Manager 4.3 I think and had a previous model blackberry device.  Our organization uses Lotus Notes.  He was previously syncing the email with Lotus and the Contacts and Calendar with Outlook.  He upgraded phones to the BB 8900 (he is on T-Mobile) and upgraded his BB Desktop Manager to v4.6.  When he first ran the setup, he did not tell it to sync the Lotus organizer data.  He performed one sync, but nothing came over at all.  He then went in and checked the LOTUS ORGANIZER data, but every time he tries to Sync, the BB Desktop Manager sits there for about 45 seconds, then it just closes with a generic error referencing the BlackberryDesktopManager.exe.
When that happens, we can open the Desktop Manager, but the PIN connection shows NONE until he actually unplugs and re-plugs in the phone.
If we try to go into the SYNCHRONIZE section and then hit the button that would normally show the sync settings, we get the same exact type of crash (but it happens almost immediately instead of waiting 45 seconds).
Here is what we have tried to do to fix it.  We have completely removed and re-installed the BB Desktop Manager (but we have tried v4.5 and v4.7.)  Each time we are uninstalling the software, I made sure to REMOVE USER FILES and then I am also going into the PROGRAM FILES folder and deleting the RESEARCH IN MOTION folder so it shouldn't be keeping any of the files from that folder.  We also tried wiping the phone (three times) - twice by putting the PIN in wrong 10 times, and then once by calling T-Mobile and having them walk him through doing it on the phone itself.
We still have the same exact crash at the same exact places on all versions of this software for this model phone.  If he had another computer to try it on (that also has Lotus) I would have him try to setup the phone on another PC.  Since the phone has been wiped many times, I am thinking its something on the PC thats causing the crash, but I am not sure where to go or what to check next.
We have worked with this guy for a total of over 12 or 13 hours, and we have no idea what to try next.  This is baffling many of our technicians trying to figure this out for him.
Does anyone have any clue why it may be doing this, or have any ideas what I can check next?  Are there any logs I can collect or upload that may help identify whats going on?
Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Thanks!

  • Desktop Manager crashes with "unknown error" message before sync starts

I have the latest phone software, the very latest version of the desktop software and I can't get the sync to get past the initialization stage before it crashes.  I've read some of the other posts about changing the synch settings but I can't even get to the settings options before it crashes.  I've uninstalled the desktop software and reinstalled it (both with and without the media manager add on).  I've done a battery pull on the phone itself.  I've even done a restore of the last good backup of the phone.
Is it just me or does this house of cards seem to collapse every time there's an update to either the desktop software or the phone software?

If you have reinstalled the software without using the clean removal procedure I recommend you
use the procedure and the install the desktop manager again. The procedure cleans the registry and
completely strips all directories etc. This will save you headaches in the long run.
Use the first procedure to check the possible causes of the "unknown error".

Most posts I see regarding any new desktop manager are installation and setup errors by far.
The other posts mainly are Windows OS programs that aren't updated or unique to a specific PC setup.
House of cards? I don't think there are enough cards for a double deck pinochle game.
