Desktop Manager 5.0.1.18 uninstall errror

I seem to be trapped with a no-longer working Desktop Manager.  At one recent point I had Manager 5.0.1.18 and 6.0.1 both installed on my computer.  I tried to upgrade to 6.0.2 but got the error message that Windows XP SP3 was required, so I downloaded it.  It made my rather old computer at work just to slow to deal with, so I uninstalled SP3 whereupon 6.0.2 would not work, so I uninstalled it.  In the course of all this I tried to uninstall 5.0.18 but it wouldn't uninstall because the msi was missing.  I searched for it and found three, none of which worked.  Now 5.0.1.18 isn't working either.  I cannot reinstall it because basically it no longer exists.  If I try to reinstall from my original CD, it won't do it because it says that a more current version of DM is already installed.  If I try to install a newer version of 5.0 it won't do it because it can't uninstall the old one.  I tried the fix(s) in KB04272  but none of the four will work.  #1 is using control panel and gives the missing msi message, #2 just didn't work and gave me the error about the more current version already installed, #3 is really #1 again, and  #4 won't work, because RIM doesn't have the matching version of DM (5.0.1.18) available anywhere I can find and it seems to be VERY specific as to version since I have found three that must go with older versions none of which work.  You can probably tell from my verbosity that I'm getting frustrated and frankly pissed.

I have a BB Bold 9650 and run Desktop Manager to synch to MS Office.  I ran version 5.0.xxx and today got an update notice for version 6.0.  I chose to run the update and midway through the update, got several error messages that the software was not compatible with MS and should be shut down.  After the third warning message, I shut down the update, now all I get are error messages and I cannot run the Desktop Manager.  I tried to uninstall, but MS failed to fully uninstall version 6.0, I tried to reinstall version 5.0 from Verizon website, but still no luck.  Ideas????

This really is a shambles and Blackberry are no help!! Can you guys help!! My blackberry won't SYNC with my computer! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, it isn't ideal at all!
Any tips, I connect device and for hours it comes up on device manager, 'Connecting' nothing changes!
Anyone provide any tips on how I can get this to work.
I have been downloading device manager 7.0 but it doesnt work and Blackberry arent interested in helping!

OH! So this isn't really a sync problem, but a connectivity problem between the BB and the Desktop Software (lack of sync is a cascaded symptom, but connectivity is the root issue)...much different! Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!

  • Can't uninstall Desktop Manager 5.0.1.

    Hello,
I'm trying to uninstall the DM v5.0.1 on my Windows 7 machine. Following the usual uninstall procedure (remove programs on the control panel), I get an error stating that "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed'.
Have tried some third party uninstallers but all failed...
I need to uninstall the DM to be able to upgrade to OS6 on my 9700 Bold
(apploader finds traces of DM v5.0.1 and won't continue untill DM 5.0.1 is removed...)
appreciate the help to get rid of the DM 5.0.1. or to upgrade to OS6 on my bold without using the apploader
    Tom.

Ok, this all helps to understand, thanks.
Have you tried this method below to install the device OS software?
Honestly, for me, this is about the only method I do use, as it is much cleaner and simpler for me and I get more control over the upgrade process.
First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.
    1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
    1. If any post helps you please click the below the post(s) that helped you.
    2. Please resolve your thread by marking the post "Solution?" which solved it for you!

  • Cannot completely uninstall BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.6

Whenever I try to uninstall the BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.6,
I get window that is looking for the BlackBerry Desktop Messenger.msi file in c:\Temp\<something>
I downloaded the latest 4.6 from the BlackBerry website, unzipped it and then point to the msi in there.
I get a message that says this is not the correct msi file for this application.
The latest version is B027 and I might have installed an earlier version.
Any thoughts on how to get this completely uninstalled.
Reason is I cannot install 4.6 or 4.7 because it first wants to complete the uninstall.
Further I cannot download the Webex client as it also is looking for this uninstall to complete.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Regards,
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
It sounds like you've got some real PC-level problems there...with all that you've done, I honestly don't know what to advise you at this internet-distance. I do know that, in the past, others have gotten into the same situation you are in and have would up totally reloading their PC OS from scratch in order to clean things up. I hope you don't have to go to that extent. But, several of your statements cause me to have questions...

You can or cannot do the uninstall from the Control Panel? I cannot tell from what you've said. The clean uninstall is documented in the prior-linked KB.

Yup...you've created quite a problem there...you might try re-installing the software, in repair mode (if such is offered), and then perhaps you'll be able to uninstall.

Again, is it or is it not showing in add/remove programs? I cannot tell from what you've said...

I'm trying to uninstall Desktop Manager 5.0.1 ,  When I tried to uninstall using the typical Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel, it appears the following error:

I have complete Administrator authority, so that is not a reason.
The new 5.0 Desktop Software is working fine, but again, I think this Roxio pop up installer message is related to either not properly installing 4.2 or having multiple DM on my computer.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Given what you describe, I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove all device OS update packages from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall any and all versions of the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported that there are more registry keys to remove than are discussed in that KB
Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
You may further need to dig for and remove anything that is remotely Roxio...those can be somewhat hard to find at times.
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchronizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
If you don't really need Media Manager, then don't grab the version with it.
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Can't uninstall, modify, or repair Desktop Manager Software...Help Before I get Fired!

PLEASE HEEELLLPPPP BEFORE I GO CRAZY!!! I'm actually trying to uninstall Desktop Manager 4.5 and no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the software to uninstall because, I suspect, it was originally extracted to a Temp folder that was deleted. Now, I can't use the typical Add/Remove Programs to remove, repair or modify DM becuase I get various errors from can't find the Blackberry Desktop Manager.msi file to error 1304 (or 1317 or 2330) saying Error getting file attributes c:\program files\research in motion\isti connectors\isgroupwise6.5x\1033 Get Last Error:23. I even tried to just delete the Research in Motion folder and that didn't even work because it had some problem with the .ico file! When I tried to navigate to the 1033 folder a message saying that the file folder needed to be formatted which in turn tries to format my WHOLE C: DRIVE! This issue is affecting my career actually. I have to convert my personal BIS BB to a corporate liable BES BB and have to use the corporate approved DM version 4.3 and since I can't get rid of 4.5 this could be a REAL PROBLEM WITH MY EMPLOYER!!! Any ideas would be so appreciated you don't even know!

    d_fisher wrote:
Based on your error messages it sounds like you might have a hard drive that is failing.
I would tend to agree. You might want to run a chkdsk c: /f on the drive in an attempt to at least get things semi stable. If you sill cannot uninstall the app, you can attempt to reinstall it again to allow it to repopulate the areas where there were problems (assuming it will allow you to reinstall or repair by running the installer). If that works then you can attempt to uninstall it.
From the urgency in your post I'm under the impression you are looking for things to try, I would probably try this as a last resort step.
If everything works successfully, get a new drive and rebuilld. disk problems seem to have a tendency to return at the worst time.

Is there anyway to do a "manual" uninstall, etc...
I am trying to do a clean install of the Desktop Manager in order to get the Media Manger to  work after reading
fixes for this problem in other posts..
    Thank you for any help!

Thank you for your quick response!! - I do have full administrator priveleges on this computer (just for a note)
After your post, I had to enable the administrator account, I logged in, proceeded to uninstall - it says now... This action can only be performed on installed applications..
not sure about this... the Destop Manager 4.7 IS in the "installed" program lists..
Can you tell me if there is any other way to uninstall this... say "manually" - (deleting stuff - registry, folders... etc)
    Thanks Again..

    Hello everyone,
Roxio Media manager keeps on installing itself.  I read on this forum that I have uninstall the BB desktop manager, and install it again to solve the issues.  WINDOWS CAN NOT DELETE IT. When I delete the BlackBerry desktop manager, it just tries to install itself again. In the mean time Roxio Media manager keeps on trying to install itself.  DOES RIM HAS UNSTALLATION PROGRAM FOR THE BB DESKTOP MANAGER?  I would appreciate any help.

Perform a hard reset on the BB. (Leave the battery out a little longer then normal, 2 minutes).
Reconnect the BB to the computer.
In desktop manager, verify that the BB is shown to be connected.
-If the user is using a laptop, make sure it isn't in a docking station.

Hi do you know how to stop the desktop manager opening automatically when i start up the pc.
in the Windows System tray, you should have a BlackBerry icon. click on it to invoke the window. there will be several tabs, in one of them you can untick the option to load Desktop Manager at startup.
The search box on top-right of this page is your true friend, and the public Knowledge Base too:

  • Desktop Manager Will not Load. Hangs on splash screen when loading, then crashes

My desktop manager is not loading, and hangs whenever it is attempted to load. I have done a clean uninstall, removed rim registry entries, and did a fresh download and install 3 times with full shut downs between each attempt. I am running Windows 7 service pack 1 with an HP Laptop. It is an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC. Product Number LY080UA. I hope that is enough information, but I will give more if asked and informed how to gather such info.
When I right click on the Desktop Manager Icon, I choose to run as Admin. Once it loads the splash screen shows. After a little bit (4-6 seconds) a small Icon appears in my systems tab at the bottom right of my screen. This stays for a little while and then goes away. After this happens the Splash screen hangs, and get a black border around it. If I click on the Splash screen it grey out and says not responding, prompting windows to ask me if I want to wait for the program or close. If I choose to wait, it will sit there and do nothing. If I close it will prompt windows to "look for an error" but has not yet been able to return an answer.
When I log into safe mode, Desktop Manager loads, but does not work well as only a bare bones set of drivers are enabled. If I turn off all but the non-essential services off using services.msc it will load, but again the services needed for it to run and the services for windows to be fully functional are not on at all.
I have attempted to turn off all but the Desktop manager in the start up, using msconfig, but that does not help either.
I am at my wits end here, and would really like some help with this. It loads up (desktop manager) on my Desktop, but I am unable to log that mammoth box around with me while I travel.
Thank you for your time and efforts, I will be very grateful for any and all help.

I'm having the exact same problem here! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64. Please help! This was posted a month ago.

  • MULTIPLE PROBLEMS STILL WITH DESKTOP MANAGER 1.0.1

Could you please let me know if you are having the same problems with the new desktop manager for Mac 1.0.1.  (simply state the number on the list below - no need to write anything else)
I doubt very much anyone has a fix for the problems since RIM doesn't, but could you just post a quick reply identifying which of the following issues you're also having in the list below.  I Would like to prove to RIM how many people are having the same issues - I'm not so sure they realize how pervasive these issues are. Thanks
    (1) Several fields in each contact in my Mac Address Book are not transferred to my Blackberry, for instance: the phone number category "Work 2", the phone number category "Other", the email category "home" - if there is two of them only one is transferred;
    (2) It cuts off the end of the "Note" section in the Address Book contacts;
    (3) The software crashes when syncing Entourage calendar;
    (4)  The software severely retards the functioning of my other programs while syncing the Entourage calendar and it is necessary to restart my computer for normal function to resume;
    (5) Calendar event alarms are removed from my blackberry even though they are active on my desktop; and
    (6) Some recurring Calendar events are not transferred over to my Blackberry.
    Lance

My problems are also different.  It was working for a while (a few weeks and maybe 4 syncs).  Now, it always gives an non-descript "Sync Error" message when trying to sync Contacts with Address Book on my MacBook running Mac OSX 10.5.8, and DTM 1.0.1.   I've UNinstalled it, REinstalled it, and can get it to sync with iCal, but not Address Book.
I've tried all sorts of possible solutions, like eliminating all the Groups in my address book and only having 1.  I've tried clearing the Blackberry data before syncing.  I've tried syncing both directions, and I've tried syncing with overwriting everying in the Blackberry.  None of those solutons works.   I also had problems with iCal, but got that to sync by clearing the calendar on the BB first, then syncing calendar alone (not with contacts).
I cant even express how disappointed I am with the Blackberry Destop Manager after waiting for more than year for it after PocketMac failed as a useless piece of code.   The limited setup features, and now its lack of any useful functionality has me ready to dump my Blackberry for an iPhone.   If that happens RIM, I won't be back, and I won't be advising any associates to stick with Blackberry.  I'm at the end of my consumer satisfaction, so you don't need to spend millions with J.D. Power to figure this one out.  Just make the **bleep** thing work with a MAC!  (Just in case anyone from RIM is lurking...you'd think at least one of those software guys would use a Mac?)!!
