Desktop Manager 6.x & upgrading Device Software

Hopefully someone can provide me with a few pointers on how this works properly in Desktop Manager 6.x.  Its probably straightforward.
In desktop Manager 5.x and probably 4.x from memory, if you wanted to upgrade the device software on your blackberry, you would download the package, install this on your PC, open Desktop Manager, plug the Blackberry into your PC and follow a few prompts and then the upgrade would go through.  If you had any issues, the biggest was that maybe you would have to delete the file located here, 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Vendor.xml'.
Now under Desktop Manager 6, even though I have installed the Device package on Windows, Desktop Manager seems to always go to the internet and get what it thinks is the newest version.  Now sometimes this is newer or sometimes older than the version that is approved by my telco.
So how do I stop it going to the internet & how do I make it install the version that I have downloaded and installed on my PC?  Anyone?
Thanks,
Gareth

Hello,
You've got almost everything you need...the only difference is that you want to skip the Desktop Software and instead run the LOADER.EXE application directly. See this:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
Good luck and let us know!

What version of the Adobe Application Manager are you using?  Which operating system are you using?

  • Comp/ Desktop Manager not recognizing plugged device

I recently installed/ updated the BB Desktop Software and when I plug in my BB Curve 8520, my comp doesn't recognize the device.
Note 1: I've installed all updates on my computer AND the new OS on my phone already.
Note 2: My phone recognizes that it's plugged into the computer because begins to charge.

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these.

  • Rington problems after upgrading device software

I just upgraded my 8230 with device software 4.6.1.284.  When it came back on it did not show ringtones that I had downloaded in the list.  They were still there but did not show up in the list.  They had bee saved on a memory card.  Now when I download a new one I have to do a battery pull to get it to show up in the list.  Any ideas?

read your memory card using the following link.
use Windows Explorer, and display hidden & system files.
on the memory card, delete all the files named BBThumbs.dat . There should be one in every non-empty folder. then open the media application and let the indexation work.

  • Desktop Manager disabled a bunch of software and disappeared my Taskbar icons

I just installed Desktop Manager 4.5.015 (I'm pretty sure that's right). This version came with my 8330. After the required restart, my XP system took forever to reach the desktop. Once it reached the desktop, about six to ten of my taskbar icons disappeared. Nothing I've tried will make them come back.
Even worse than the missing taskbar icons are the several applications that no longer function properly. My Palm TX synchronization software no longer works. My NIS 2009 password management addon no longer works. And those are just a two of the bigger issues.
I've uninstalled Desktop Manager. No change. Things are still messed up. I'm considering installing the newest version of Desktop Manager (5.0 I believe) but am not convinced doing so will resolve the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

Check in System Preferences>Universal Access and see if Zoom is on. If you have toddlers or cats this can accidentally turned on by hitting a group of keys that include Option + Command + 8.
To prevent this being accidentally activated in the future go to System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Universal Access and uncheck all the boxes.

  • App Error 200???? Desktop Manager not connecting to Device??

I am officially out of ideas for what to do with my phone!!
I changed my pay as you go tariff yesterday and in order to reset the phone to get my internet settings I switched off the handset and turned it on again.
When I turned it back on it started to load as normal then came up with  "App Error 200" message. I have done a hard reset and even after taking out the sim and battery it still wont work.
I know I can change things on my Desktop Manager, but that now wont recognise the phone is connected. I have gone to the 'Options' button (top right hand corner) and applyed the USB connection but is still wont work!!
Can anyone help as I am totally lost and have lost all patients!!!!
    Thanks

If that still doesn't work you will need to do the following:

You can use the OS in the download link in the thread above or you can download from your own carrier (doesn't matter where it comes from) but be sure and use the instructions in the above thread to install it.
If you didn't have a backup from before this happened you will lose your data.

  • Speaker Audio Quality Went Down after Upgrading Device Software

    Hello Everyone
I recently upgraded mine Blackberry 8830 from Os Version 4.2 to 4.5. I had to do it as i was not able
to utilize the complete features of this smartphone
One big thing i noticed though is , after upgradation the audio quality went down by almost 20%
Initially when mine phone used to play songs , it would be amazing to listen to that being quite
different from all other Mobile Phones. But after the upgrade , the audio quality declined.
I tried all options , using audioboost and everything else, but not able to listen to same quality till now
Can someone please help , may be i am missing out something here?
    Thanks
    Amit

    Hey axsuri,
Once you completed the upgrade did you restore a backup file? If you did then try doing this, backup the device again. Once you have a new backup preform a reset to factory as shown in this article http://bbry.lv/a0QXmX after this is completed transfer a music file to the device and test to see if you are still having the same issue. If the issue is resolved then use this article to only restore essential data. http://bit.ly/bSbfl3

  • Desktop manager keeps asking for device password

I type in my password which I know to be correct, or I'd have been locked out of it a long time ago, and it just keeps popping up. I can't back up my device or anything with the PC. What gives? Is it looking for a different password??

If you have a numeric password, it probably is a alphabetical password on the computer, if you don't use ALT that is.
Example: if your password is -1234-on your phone without using ALT, it is -wers- on your computer.

  • Zenworks Desktop Management 7 (Vanilla) Upgrade

We have a ZDM7 vanilla install, running on Netware 6.5SP7 that I'm looking to patch up to the latest version (SP1 IR4).
I've browsed through the available documentation, and the information is pretty much all aimed at upgrading when you're already at SP1.
Also of note is that we are running the ZEN DB on a Seperate Windows 2003 Server running SQL2000.
I'm aware that I'll need to install SP1 IR2 first, then carry out the IR4 patch, and have the ISO's already downloaded.
Does anyone know of any gotchas to the upgrade that I might encounter with this particular config, or just any general advice on the upgrade?
Any further information you might need, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance,

    Little Crow,
    >Good to hear that, but I was under the impression that upgrading the

    >Is this not the case?
I do it all the time in limited testing, but production roll-outs, yeah I
would not recommend it. I guess I was saying that you need to test the
agent more than worry about upgrading the server.

  • Desktop Manager does not recognize device without administrator privileges

Hi. My BB Bold is working fine at home with DM 4.6. However, at work DM only detects that the device is connected when I'm granted with administrator privileges (Windows XP Pro, SP2). When I'm denied the extra privileges DM cannot detect the BB.
DM was intalled under administrator privileges but I'm not allowed having this privileges permanently.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It sounds like when DM was installed, it wasn't installed 'for any user'.  Perhaps uninstall it and when it's reinstalled make sure the option 'for any user' is checked (insteald of 'only for this user').

  • Desktop Manager Updated to ver. 5.0 - why is Device Manager tray icon "exit" greyed out?

Just updated to Desktop Manager 5.0
    Blackberry Device Manager 4.7.1.11
    BBDevMgr 4.1.0.11
    Rim USB Driver 4.1.0.4
    Rim USB Serial Driver 2.2.0.3
Before with previous version Device Manager tray icon would go away after disconnecting BB.
Now Device Manager tray icon does not go away after disconnecting BB and when right-clicking on it "exit" is greyed out - what's up with that? Is this by design? Why can't I get rid of the tray icon when disconnected?

Here's something bizarre. I have also been syncing contacts, calendars and tasks for a long time with my Storm. After downloading the Desktop 7.0 I also saw the Calendar as not available. I don't particularly remember seeing Memo as an option but I also selected it this time around as I was going through the old reload the os, restore, etc. Anyway I did a test adding an appointment to my Outlook calendar then ran the sync for contacts, tasks and memos and amazingly it shows on my Storm's calendar. Not sure how comfortable I am in depending on this but you might try and place an appointment on Outlook's calendar, run the sync and see if it shows up on your cell's calendar. Strange but it is working for me.

  • Unreadable Desktop Manager software

Recently downloaded the Blackberry Desktop Manager and cannot get the software to properly display...all the letters are just squares!  have checked language both computer and software were set to US English.  Am using an Acer Aspire 5810T.  Had the earlier version of Desktop Manager working just fine.
Appreciate any suggestions from people who might have encountered and resolved a similar problem.

    Hey lfassam,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Sorry to hear about the issue.  This issue is caused by installing BlackBerry Desktop Software in a different language or that the previous versions are not completely removed.
    Perform the following:
    1. Perform a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Desktop Software by following ALLthe steps in this KB article: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
    2. Restart the computer and go to www.blackberry.com/desktop and choose PC and select English.  Make sure you save the file.
    3.  Run the install and restart the computer and then try to access BlackBerry Desktop Software.
Let me know if you run into any trouble.

  • Prevent user from doing device transfer using desktop manager

    Hi everyone,
My company would like to prevent user from using the Blackberry desktop manager to perform the device transfer. The reason is we do not want the user to have company data stored on privately-owned device. Is there a way to do that?
    Thanks.

Do you want to prevent them from using the program all together, or just from using the Device Switch Wizard? If not, then what do you mean by device transfer?
If it's the Device Switch Wizard then the BES admin can set an IT Policy - http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB18290

  • Desktop Manager Install Error 1904, nothing resolves...

I have been having the following problem the last few days.  On my work desktop (WinXP x64) I installed the DesktopManager software without hitch, but on my home desktop (WinXP Pro SP3) I also keep getting the error message:
Error 1904.Module C:...GW.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473. Contact your support personnel.
I am also getting the same error message for gwapi.dll, desktopsetup_pb.dll, and syncAE_pb.dll.
I am a very technical person so I had no qualms with trying the crackberry fix, but it didn't work.  I was able to register all of the modules after the reset, but when I would open up Desktop Manager it would never connect to my Curve 8320 vis USB or Bluetooth.  With Bluetooth it would recognize the phone and it would even pop up a message saying that it had "detected the device".  It would ask if I wanted to connect and I would say yes and then nothing would happen.  Another 30-60 seconds later it would pop up the same message saying it detected my Blackberry and asking if I wanted to connect.  After about the tenth time of this loop I closed out the Desktop Manager.  I uninstalled the software and deleted the program folders and then logged onto the "Administrator" account (my account is also an admin acct, but I logged onto the default admin account that is labeled "Administrator" by Windows).   Upon logging into this account, I attempted to upgrade the Windows Installer 3.1, but it told me that I have a newer version and couldn't do that (WinXP SP3).  So, I registered the atl.dll and tried installing the Desktop Manager software again (I'm installing v4.6 w/ Media Manager).  Once again I got the same error messages.  So I restarted and attempted to manually register the dll's again, and I'm now getting the error message:
    DllRegisterServer in gw.dll failed.
    Return code was: 0x80070005
So, to sum it all up, I've tried all six "resolutions" that RIM has at: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/articles/963/KB03928_f.SAL_Public.html, and the first "workaround."  The second "workaround" doesn't apply because there is no option to "ignore," there is only one button that is "Ok."  I'm starting to get pretty pissed off by all of this and I'm ready to throw the **bleep** Blackberry out the window.  I love the phone and it's capabilities, but if I can't use the capabilities then it's pretty much worthless to me... then I should have just gotten an iPhone or a WinMobile device.  It makes no sense to me that the software will install just fine on my WinXP x64 machine at work and not on my 32-bit home machine.  Usually it's the 32-bit progs on the 64-bit machine that cause problems.  When is a fix going to come?
    Here are my details:
    BB Curve 8320, OS v4.5.0.52 (Platform 2.7.0.66)
    DesktopManager Software v4.6 (w/ MediaManager)
    WinXP Pro, Service Pack 3
    Pentium 4, 2.80GHz
    2GB DD400 Dual-Channel RAM

  • Apps missing Desktop Manager

For some reason i can't visually see facebook and msn on desktop manager, so everytime i install a new app or upgrade device software, it uninstalls these apps and have to keep reinstalling them off the website. It becomes kind of a nuisance since im always readding and deleting apps. I was just wondering if theres some reason why they arent listed as installed apps? My programs up to date. Any ideas or anyone ever encounter this?

That is odd, they should show.
