Desktop Manager - Backup - Restore - No Contacts

Hi there. I tried to do a switch devices beteween blackberry 8520 to 9720. In the process, a back-up was created (.bbb file). The process went wrong for some reason so i tried to restore the database to the old phone 8520. The data was restored from the back-up file, except the Contact List...
Do you have any idea why is that and how to see all also the Contacts?
Thank you.
L.E. Also the Memos that i had are missing...
All the SMS, E-Mails, etc are there...

On your backup/restore tab there is the advanced option. Select that then select the backup you want to "restore" it'll show you all modules of downloaded databases.

  • Desktop Manager wants to delete contacts from Address Book

I have been using Desktop Manager for Mac's since it became available. When I go to sync my Storm it adds the contacts to my address book that are new to the phone, but it wants to delete 129 Contacts from my address book. For the life of my I can't seem to figure out why or how to agree to add the new contacts, but NOT delete any from my address book.
    Any suggestions?
Yes, I have done the wipe, the backing up, the ticking of delete all info from device, but having to go through all of these things EVERY time I go to sync defeats the purpose.

    @STATMAN
I followed all of the steps. Searched my hard drive for anything related to Missing Sync and DM. I deleted all files. Trashed, emptied trash, reset sync services, repaired permissions. Restarted, re-downloaded, installed and still the same thing. It doesn't allow me to sync while "replace all contacts on device" is ticked. Desktop Manager will not allow me to"clear data" from the phone.
After my last sync... I have  322 entries of the same contact on my phone. Looks like I have to do yet another wipe.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Received App Error 603, now I can't connect to BlackBerry Desktop to backup or sync contacts/notes before hard reset

    Hi,
For the past several days, my BlackBerry Bold 9650 has been resetting frequently (often going to a white screen reading "App Error 603"), losing access to applications, and generally acting terribly.  I have essentially lost the ability to use it in any meaningful way (the phone features work rarely, e-mail, not at all).  I took it into Sprint and was told that a hard reset would have to be performed, but that I should backup my contacts and notes via BlackBerry Desktop, prior to doing so.  However, thought the Desktop launches when I connect to my MacBook Air, and the status bar says "Connecting," once it stops saying "Connecting," when I click on the device icon in the upper left, it says "(Not connected)," so I cannot backup or sync the data.
Could you please let me know how to backup my contacts and notes before I have the hard reset done, since I desperately need them?
    Thank you very much!

By the way, while the Desktop software says that the Bold 9650 is "(Not Connected)," it does seem to know it's connected to some kind of BlackBerry device.  The status bar stops saying "Connecting..." and, when I phyiscally disconnect the Bold, the status bar then reads, "Device Disconnected."
    Thanks again!

  • HT5058 Why does the iCloud backup/restore save contacts from Exchange or CardDAV?

We push MDM configurations to iOS users which include e-mail, contact, and calendar setups for the user to use. What we don't want is the user to have the ability to keep these on their phone if we do a remote wipe and don't activate/enroll their device in our MDM solution again. E-mail isn't touched on the iCloud backup so a restore doesn't put it back on, but contacts and calendar are backed up as part of the iCloud backup despite coming from the MDM configuration. This means our company data can reside on their personal backups.
Is there a way to stop this from happening?

iTunes only keeps one normal backup per iOS device, most likely because an iOS device backup can be 6GB's or more in size. Given the fact that many users sync daily, their hard drives would quickly fill up, with mostly useless iOS device backups, if iTunes kept a separate backup each time you synced.
As for contacts, they are designed to be synced with a supported contact application on your computer or a cloud service. Relying solely on an iPhone backup as the sole depository of this data invites disaster. Had you been syncing your contacts, as designed, you wouldn't be in this boat.

  • Desktop Manager wants to delete contacts in Outlook while syncing

I have the 9530, Outlook 2002 and DM 4.7. While syncing contacts and calendar the DM wants to delete some of my contacts for example that are on Outlook. I don't know why. I can review what it wants to do but I cannot tell DM to not delete that contact. I have to accept or reject all the entries. I would like to be able to highlight an entry and accept or reject each one individually. I now have changed the settings so that only Outlook changes are put onto the Storm, one way. But then I can't get any changes from the Storm onto Outlook unless I enter them in outlook manually. Does anyone know any way to set things up that work better ? Or does anyone know of any third party apps that synch with Outlook better than DM 4.7?
    Thanks

  • Can I use Bluetooth to sync Blackberrry Bold diary and contacts with Desktop Manager (versions 6 or 7)?

I have successfully set up a Bluetooth connection with my PC.  Can anyone tell me it is possible with either (or both) versions of the Desktop Manager software?  (i.e. update all info without need for a cable connection using a Blackberry Bold 9900)

  • BLACKBERRY TORCH - won't turn on and desktop manager won't recognise it - I can't get my contacts

    Hi all,
I'm new to this so please bare with me.
I'll try and be as brief as possible. Up until last week I had the Blackberry Torch 9800. I was due an upgrade and about two days before I went to contact my network provider my Torch battery died (it wasn't broken at this point, it just was drained and needed charged) so I went to charge it and it did that thing where the battery was so dead it wouldn't even switch on whilst charging.
I plugged it in and rather than charge like normal it was completely dead and the only activity it offered me was two red flashing lights as it 'charged'. From that moment on it has not turned on. Dead as can be. If I plug to charge (wall charger OR USB port) I get the two bright red flashing notification lights but it will not go on.
Anyway rather than send it to be repaired I opted for a new phone as I was due an upgrade anyway and intended on doing so whether the Torch was alive and kicking at this point or not. Cut a long story short I got my new blackberry (9360 curve) it is all set up with my e-mail etc, media card and same sim card swapped over but as Blackberry insist on your contact numbers being saved to the handset and not the sim my contacts are stuck in my Torch 9800.
When I go to plug the Torch in to Desktop manager to get the contacts saved to there and then sync over to my new handset the Torch is so dead that DManager won't even read/recognise it. My network say since this is not an issue with network etc they can't really help and gave me a number for Blackberry services in England somewhere (they are office hrs so can't phone until Monday morning).
Please can someone help? I have my new 9360 all up and running but my contacts are stuck in my Torch and that is the only place they are? DManager won't recognise the Torch because it is dead - except the two flashing lights - and therefore won't let me at the contacts that way.
ANY help would be appreciated - please not too techinal as not great with all of that side of things!

  • Mac Blackberry Desktop Manager Won't sync with New Bold 9650

I have a new Bold 9650 (upgraded from a curve). My curve recognized and would sync with no problems. I used BB Desktop Manager to restore my new bold with all it's contacts and such. When showing up in DM, the options for restore and back up are available. When I click on applications it says I need a newer version of desktop manager. I have downloaded the most recent from the website and it still says this.
More importantly, the SYNC option doesn't even come up while the two are connected. It stays greyed out and won't let me get the option to sync. This worked fine with the curve, but the bold won't sync!!! Help please!!!

I too had the same problem. See below... there's a workaround. Apparently they are working on it.

  • Desktop Manager Has Stopped Working @ Processing Device Calendar During Sync Process

I have a BB 8330 and have an annoying issue....it sync'd with MS Outlook for about 2 months after i got it then I started getting an error inthe sync process "Blackberry Desktop Manager Has Stopped Working, Windows is shutting it Down"....this always happens at the exact same point inthe sync process..."Processing Device Calendar".
I've done everything, Verizon tech support...BB tech support...uninstall/reinstall...nothing has fixed it. I even deleted everything out of outlook and started over. The odd thing is that everything EXCEPT the calendar will sync....it's just when it gets to the "processing device calendar" is stops syncing and I get the 'DM Has stopped working' error and it closes.
I am going to scream if I can't get this fixed...it's been going on since last October!!
    Any fixes out there?

Hmm. That may be something in your calendar database is corrupt. Was your device ever synched before? There is a way of clearing the calendar database. So if you have your device synching with Outlook, after it's cleared from the BlackBerry, you could try synching again.
To clear the calendar database you can go into Desktop Manager | Backup and Restore | Advanced. On the right hand side select the calendar database and hit the Clear button. Afterwards try synching again

  • Software update via desktop manager failed, phone will not boot

I used the Desktop Software (I had to update this first to version 6.00.43; anyway, that's what the Rim.Desktop.exe file properties in Windows Explorer says it is) to update my Curve 8900 's software. It went through the first two steps of downloading and installing; then just sat there stuck on the reboot step -- no kind of error message, just stuck, with phone displaying the AT&T sign on screen for probably a good chunk of lat night (started doing this a little before bed) and all through the day today. Only removing the battery will shut off the phone; once restarted, the white progress bar fills up over a number of minutes and goes back to the AT& screen again; hangup button will not shut the phone down. If I reconnect the USB and the Desktop Software is still running, status message continues to say "disconnected"; if I first connect the USB and then start the software, get a "connecting..." status message but it never connects. Windows 7 "Safely Remove Hardware" list does not display it.
    Any way to fix this?
    Bard55

    Close Desktop Manager.
    Then do this:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_wipe_the_BlackBerry_using_Jl_Cmder%3F

I'm trying to update my BB 8520 because it's been playing up (again) and I've tried using the desktop manger to update it but it doesn't seem to let me complete the update even though it says there is one. • AutoText backup & restore

Didn't find a solution reading old threads on this...
I got a replacement phone, same model & OS version, and could not transfer the autotext word substitutions, even using the latest Desktop Software.
It seemed to successfully back up the database, the backup shows 3 "word substitition" databases and 1 "word substitution version" database, but when trying a restore to the replacement phone, it says they didn't transfer.
I've already copied everything over manually, but what a pain, shouldn't this be able to be exported and imported?  I've got a lot of  shortcuts that generate customer service responses, and really need to be able to backup & restore those.
For now I've cut-and-pasted them all into a memo, which does get backed up, but that's a lot of manual cut-and-paste work to recreate them all.
Please RIM, if the databases can't transfer, then make a way to export to a file and import on the other phone.  There's also no apparent way to separate our own additions to what was built-in, which makes it harder.
    thanks

I was able to find a fix for this.
We are in an enterprise environment so encountered the problem
Issue: could not transfer autotext from bold 9700 to new bold 9900 Word Substitution
Installed latest version of BB Desktop Manager
Backup old device & disconnect it and put it away
    On new device go into
Options / Advanced System Settings / Service Book
Delete Desktop [SYNC] (dont worry you can undelete it later)
Connect new device to Desktop Manager
    Choose Restore
Pick the backup you just made of your old device
Choose Select device data and settings
    Choose AutoText (and/or others)
    Click Restore
    Disconnect Deviice
    On new device go into
Options / Advanced System Settings / Service Book
Press Menu Button, and Choose Undelete

  • Desktop Manager fails to synch with Yahoo Address Book on my 8300

I have been synching both Yahoo Address Book and Yahoo Calendar successfully for months.  Suddenly, Address Book no longer synchs.  Yahoo calendar still works.  The problem occurs aftew Desktop reads all the contacts.  It halts while "Synchronization Progress...reading from Yahoo Address Book" displays.  That message has displayed for up to an hour with no progress.  I then disconnect and halt Desktop.  I can still synch Yahoo Calendar.  I have not updated desktop or device software.  Anybody have any suggestions?

No Sync with Yahoo Address Book Workaround:
Work Around for Blackberry to Yahoo Sync when Address Book Sync Gets Stuck:
I've had the Address Book on my Yahoo Sync hang on two different occasions.  The first time was late 2009 and the second was late Jan 2010.  The first time the problem fixed itself. This time, no such luck yet.  So if you are having the same problem, here's a work around that will allow you to update both your Yahoo and Blackberry Contacts and keep them in sync.
Step 1: From Yahoo, EXPORT your contacts to Windows Contacts (I did this in Vista and it also works for Windows 7 -- it should also work for XP, but the export may be a different expension).  You will want to export using the 'vCard, Zip of .VCF files'.  his will create a zip file of all your contacts with in the vcard format: (.VCF)
Step 2: Some manual labor in this step, but you will only have to do it once OR you can try a .vcf to .contact file converter program like:
http://www.vcardconverter.com/ that will cost you 19.95. Open each contact in the zip file. It will show you the contact data and there will be a button that you can click to ADD TO MY CONTACTS.  Do this for each contact in the exported zip file. Or but the program.
You now have your Yahoo Address Book converted over to Window Contacts.
Step 3: In the Blackberry Desktop Manager change your synchronization setting for your address book from Yahoo to 'Window Address Book/Mail'.  Leave the Calendar, MenoPad, and Task to sync with Yahoo.  So you should have:
    Calendar sync to Yahoo
    MemoPad sync to Yahoo
Address Book sync to Windows Address Book/Mail
    Task sync to Yahoo
Step 4: You now can perform a sync to you Blackberry Device. (But read the notes below first)
    SOME IMPORTANT NOTES:
This allows you to get your contacts into your Blackberry and to sync them with your Windows Contacts.  You can make this a three way sync where you also keep your Windows Contacts and Yahoo Address Book in sync.  It just adds an extra sync.  NOTE: If you are going to do this then pay the 20 bucks and buy the program above or find a program to convert .contact files to vcf (vcard) files. I've decided to buy the program above because it allows me to import and export all the contacts at one time, which is what you will need to use the import / export tools in Yahoo Contacts
I did the sync of the address book in steps.  I was lucky / unlucky because I tried to do a Blackberry software upgrade that failed and it wiped out all of my contacts, calendar, tasks, and memos; so when I did my first sync, I when only from the Blackberry Desktop Manager to my Blackberry.  I then changed my sync to be a two way sync.  I only mention this because I don't know if going from Windows Contact to Blackberry would create duplicate entries in your Blackberry and Windows Contact Manager.  Maybe someone can check this out and post. Anyway, I would suggest trying the sync with only a few contacts to check it out.
You don't need to worry about the folder that the Blackberry Desktop Manager will store the contacts.  It assumes the 'Contacts' folder on you machine.  As far as I could tell, there was no way to change this destination anyway.
    ALTERNATIVE APPROACH:
If I was to do this all over, and I had my contacts still on my blackberry, I would most likely do the following (in theory):
    Step 1.
Change the sync for contacts to be with Windows Address Book, not Yahoo.
    Step 2.
Sync the contacts so they would appear in the Windows Contacts.
Step 3. Then worry about syncing Windows Contacts with Yahoo (see above)
    Good luck,

  • Desktop manager 7.1 fails to restore Contacts and Calendar from backups

Today I discovered that I lost my contact and calendar lists on my playbook after upgrading to OS version 2.1.0.1032.
As a precaution I backed up my device data and apps using desktop manager 7.1 and used windows explorer to duplicate my media folder using the Z:drive option before I started the OS upgrade.
Since I learned how to deal with lost device data and apps on my BB smart phone I was confident that I could apply this knowledge to my Playbook too, just in case something happened.
Well, something happened. My PlayBook backup file became a trap even so the desktop manager manual said: “To restore all your smartphone data or tablet data, click All device data and settings.”
If one ‘thinks’ the phone learning curve can be applied to the Playbook one is doomed as I found out today. The PlayBook backup function for the contact and calendar listing behaves differently than for the BB phone. There is no warning in Desktop Manager 7.1 which says: “This backup file excludes contact and calendar data files which were manually built by the user and are not part of a synced email server”.
So this posting is about letting other users know to be aware of some OS 2.1.0.1032 short comings. If your contact and/or calendar list was manually built, i.e. it was not linked to an email account you might encounter the above issue.
When I noticed that my contact and calendar file did not sync with my email account I started to use my contact list for everything useful to remember not just contacts. There were many extra fields available in the PlayBook contact list which could not be matched with the limited fields found in other synced contact lists. So I built a big ‘Good to Know’ file with all kinds of info hoping that one day I could use it also with BB10.
Unfortunately this OS version wiped my contact and calendar lists which none of the other OS updates were able to do and the ‘Restore’ option via desktop manger 7.1 did not work!!!.  So it looks like some engineering wizard at RIM is trying to upset the non-linked contact list users with this release version.
I hope RIM finds this ‘group of moles(?)' and deals with these engineers before they can do anymore damage. Remember RIM, the object is to enjoy new updates not to fear them. It would be nice if desktop manager 7.2 would alert us users with a warning or lets us export these files via another tip like: “How can I back up contact and calendar files for the PlayBook“. I realize as of today that this problem was with me all along but came only to light after this OS release wiped my 2 lists completely. There is also no hint in the PB or Desktop user manuals!
For the time being I will use only my phone’s contact and calendar lists via the bridge as a work around  but I hope the responsible RIM manager reads this postings and tells his engineers to go forward not backwards. Tell them to include a backup feature for non-linked contact and calendar data in 7.2. Not everybody has linked data files or if this is RIM’s intention then let us users know upfront that one could loose his/her data.
If you ‘liked’ this posting click the ‘Thumb up’ box near by even so this issue has no solution at this point in time. Let’s hope RIM deals with this issue eventually.

Here is a new KB article re: this issue:
