Desktop Manager 'Connecting' infinitely...

Greetings everyone,
I have been a BB user for sometime through my workplace and so when it came time to own a personal device I naturally gravitated towards Blackberry. I now own a 9870 and can say that it is a slick device, and had no trouble with any of the setup of the device itself.
My woes began when I installed the Desktop Manager on my home PC. I got the latest version of the desktop manager v6.0.2 B45 and installed it. I then proceeded to connect my device (selecting Charge only, which the information says it the correct setting for Desktop manager though I have also tried the others Media Sync and USB Mode), which BB Device Manager detected correctly, after the drivers installed themselves, and could see the PIN number and a 'Connected' time counting up.
Desktop manager launches, without error, and shows the green USB icon beside the name of the device. In the lower right hand corner of the software, it says 'Connecting' with a green activity wheel spinning, albeit slowly. It remains in that state indefinitely. (At the end of my ordeal I left it over night and awoke 5 hours later to find in in the same state with device manager showing it having been connected the whole time)
I have tried reinstalling the desktop software, rebooting, doing battery pulls, turning off power management for the USB port (A direct port on the PC, not a hub), trying other ports on the PC, running compatibility mode for the Desktop Software, forcing it to 'Run As Administrator'. I have probably forgotten some of the things I've tried as I spent many hours grinding this.
I KNOW the device is functional as is the cable as I have been able to connect it to my work laptop and it works perfectly as does my work Blackberry. I hoping that I have missed some minor detail or neglected some obvious setting like 'turn good mode ON' as I simply cannot think what else the problem could be.
I'm throwing myself at your mercy as I just don't know what else to try to resolve this issue. Any help would be appreciated!
For reference sake, my PC specs are:
Windows 7 64-bit, Home
4 GB DDR3
Intel I7 860
(Plenty of free HD space)

I'm not sure if I did something wrong in posting my topic and thus it was neglected or if there is simply no one who has encountered this problem. I know their must be some people who use Bluetooth to sync their devices, and help on that would have been great.
For posterity sake, I bought an ASUS BT211 adapter and installed it using the chipset manufacturer's drivers, (Atheros) so that Windows could use it's native BT stack and be detected by the Device Manager.  I was able to pair it using this method and the desktop manager IMMEDIATELY detected the connection and allowed me to sync and backup the device.
On a whim, I connected the USB cable I had had so much difficulty with and noted with some degree of elation that it detected and connected nearly instantaneously. I disconnected BT and can now connect and sync with USB without any trouble whatsoever.
I don't know what the precise problem was, but there was clearly something  in the initialization process that was not working though USB what was not encountered through BT, and now that it is past that point, no longer hangs there.
Hopefully this information will be useful to some tortured soul who comes across it, or perhaps some RIM QA personnel, as I was unable to benefit from any other experiences.
Good Luck!

  • Desktop Manager Connection Help

    Hello
When i open desktop manager on my man it tells me to connect the blackberry using the usb cable
When i do, the blackberry asks me if i would like to use mass storage mode or not.
If i select yes, a drive will show up on the desktop. If i chose no, nothing will happen.
However, Blackberry desktop manager still does not change screens or show any signs of connection (even in mass storage mode).
Does anyone know of a possible way to fix this or if i am doing anything wrong?
    Thanks,

I've just purchased a BlackBerry Tour and am having the same connection problem.  Please help!!!!!

  • Desktop Manager connection help needed

I have a new macbook running Snow Leopard and a Blackberry 9700 Bold running the RIM 5.0 software.
When I first got this Mac, I downloaded and installed desktop manager, and had no problems syncing my address book and calendar with the mac address book and calendar.
A few days ago I was attempting to clear the cache on Google Maps on my Bold, and it triggered JVM 102. I was unable to reload the apps from the mac, so I used my old PC and did a successful application loader. (formally worked in bb support doing this all day long, so i'm fairly certain this didnt cause the issue).
After this point, I can still sync with the PC with no problems, but the Mac will not connect to the device.
    What happens is:
    - Desktop manager begins "connecting to device"
    - device asks if i want to turn on mass storage (selecting yes or no makes no difference)
    - mac gains access to blackberry media card for a moment
    - device gets solid red light, and reboots
    - desktop manager says "waiting for device to restart"
    - when device finishes booting, desktop manager says it was unable to connect
    - mac gives errors about not ejecting properly
    - bold reboots again
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the desktop manager
I tried using pocketmac but i refuse to pay them 4.99 for the "free download" accellerator
I tried missing sync but the trial/beta is invalid and they want me to buy the full program
I went into library/preferences and deleted all blackberry/rim related files, as well as searched entire mac for any blackberry/rim/research in motion files and deleted them, restarted the mac, and reinstalled DM, still having same issue
Connected back to PC again, still able to sync with no problems
Please help or let me know if there is any other information needed to try and help!!

  • Desktop Manager version 6 - TOTAL CRASH

I have just bought a new laptop (Sony Vaio running Windows 7 and Microsoft Outlook 2010).
I am using the Blackberry 8900 Curve with  Vodafone.
Like everyone else, I could not synchronise my blackberry with Outlook 2010 and was told to wait until August for version 6 of Desktop Manager.
I just installed it!     But when I tried to launch Desktop Manager is simply says "Blackberry desktop software has stopped working.  Windows is checking for  a solution to the problem" and then I get  "  Blackberry desktop software has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.    Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".
I un-installed and reinstalled.  No change.
Prior to downloading version 6 I had  downloaded and installed version 5 with Service Pack  - the file name was 501_b049_multilanguage.  That  one installed and launched but there was NO WAY to synchronise Blackberry Curve 8900 with Outlook 2010!
My PC is brand new and "TOTALLY CLEAN" of any special install.  The only application running on this laptop other than Microsoft Windows 7 (32 bit)  and Microsoft Office 2010 (including Outlook 2010) are McAfee (which I disabled to ensure this was not the reason desktop  manager  would not work!) and an HP all in one printer!
IT HAS BEEN A WHOLE MONTH since Microsoft launched Outlook 2010, not sure what the issue is but both Desktop Manager 5 and Desktop Manager 6 have VERY SERIOUS ISSUES which should have been screened through QA.   HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED ALL THESE ISSUES???

Hi and welcome to the forums!
In previous versions of desktop manager the unexpected close conditions were usually associated with the lack of administration rights (Vista) or the User Account Control  settings in Windows 7.
The third leading cause especially with laptops were either using a docking bay or the power management settings  interfering with the USB control.
As you are using the supported 32 bit Outlook 2010, I suggest that the problem may be due a connectivity issue. We can document this with Kb05143 listed below.
I would also verify that the version of NET Framework installed on your PC.
When you removed and re-installed the desktop manager did you use the clean reload procedure?
I would suggest it if we cannot find the problem through logging.
    Thanks,

  • Uncaught error java nullpoint exception, email icons disappeared, application loader unable to back up data, desktop manager unable to connect

    Model:  Curve 8900
    Provider: At&t
    Platform: 4.2.0.108
I'm ready to throw this phone in the blender.... if I could only back up my data first. A couple of months ago the What's App application required an update. I updated it and ever since my phone has steadily had more and more issues. First, I kept getting this uncaught error message, shortly thereafter the 2 email accounts (both gmail) that I have linked to the account disappeared. The message icon shows that I have messages, but icons not there (I have tried the show all option). At one point the message icon started exponentially adding the number of messages until it got up to over 86,000. When I reboot the phone it goes back down and then steadily increases again... usually though it's more to 400 - 500 rather then tens of thousands. I have been trying to install updates and do a wipe of the BB so that I can start from scratch, unfortunately the application loader is unable to back up data. The desktop manager is unable to connect to the blackberry and indicates that an upgrade is required. I have tried doing the upgrade both directly from the phone and connected to the desktop manager, but nothing seems to work. If I try to upgrade the software directly from the BB, I get to the start download button and when I click, nothing happens. I have removed all applications except bberry app world and one game that I play, Pixelated Plus. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Do you want to save the messages?
If not (and I think they are the problem) open the Desktop Software > Device > Delete Data and click the "select Data" option. Select the Messages to remove. Complete the prompts and finish.
Then, return to backup the entire device, and see if that is possible to complete this time with no messages.
Now, once the back up is done and you have your data, you can disconnect the device.
Now, use BBSAK to wipe the device and subsequently load the new operating system.
**If you cannot complete the backup again above, you might have to do without it, OR you can use the Desktop Software to sync your Address book, calendar, memos and tasks to Outlook. OR, you can easily install and use BlackBerry Protect to backup your device over the air to RIM servers, then once wiped and the new OS reloaded, you can use Protect to restore the data back to the 8900. << This you should do regardless.
Good luck, post back here as you have questions.

  • 9860 - Error 205 - Wont connect to desktop manager

    Hello,
I have a 9860 that froze on me & rebooted, once it got past the black blackberry loading screen, it goes white and says Error 205 Reload Software.. Its on a constant loop of rebooting and this screen. i tried following the instructions giving on blackberry.com/205 however i cannot get my phone connected to the desktop manager. I tried taking this into Sasktel, but the guy behind the computer couldn't do anything with it, i think he was having this same problem because he told me to come home & do it instead. I have been trying to connect them for over an hour & I am getting very frustrated as nothing is working.. please help!

Try using the steps located here:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Device-software-for-BlackBerry/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-S...
In your case, you likely won't be able to back up your data, but if you had BlackBerry Protect up and running, at least some of your data should be safe.
If you can't get the Loader.exe file to connect at the second screen (where your PIN should appear), remove the battery and disconnect the phone from the computer. Then reconnect your phone (without the battery). As soon as your PIN or USB:UNKNOWN pops up in the box, press next. If you miss it, don't worry, just unplug the phone and plug it back in to trigger another reboot. Once you've gotten your computer to catch your phone, you can reinsert the battery and continue with the OS reload process.
I hope this helps get you back up and running!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
You've got a lot of inter-related and separate issues all mixed up in there. Can you perhaps separate them and provide adequate details of each so that we can perhaps understand and help you?
For example, the Desktop Software password is the exact same one that you use to unlock your BB after you either have caused it to password lock or enough time has passed that it has auto-locked. But that password is totally irrelevant to everything else you've mentioned...and you really need to figure that one out first, as without it, you cannot even use your BB for the other things at all.

  • Desktop Manager crashes upon connection

Just installed BB Desktop Manager 5.0, after removing the previous installation using the "clean uninstall" process suggested elsewhere on this Board (i.e. eliminating RIM and Puma entries in the registry).
v 5.0 is syncing with my BB 8830 just fine in my laptop computer (Vista OS); the problem is with my desktop (XP SP3 OS), which I'd also like to sync with the 8830. As soon as I plug in the BB to the desktop computer, the screen freezes and I receive an error message that says the Deskrop Manager has encountered a problem and must close. By clicking on "click here"  (for details), I get an error message that says the following:

    Hi
I am having exactly the same problems

  • Cannot Connect to Desktop Manager

For some reason I can not get my Playbook to connect to the Desktop Manager.  I have tried on 2 seperate computers (one XP and one Vista).  I have tried deleting and reinstalling the latest version of DM.  I know it's not the cable as I am able to connect my Bold 9700 with no issues.  On the XP computer it just doesn't recognize it.  The Playbook itself goes to the "Connected to Computer" screen, however the device doesn't show up as connected or under My Computer.  In the Device Manager it's listed at a Network Device (With a yellow exclamation point) and when I click on it, it says "Device can't start".  On the Vista Machine it shows up in DM as an Unknown Device and a window pops up saying "Desktop Manager cannot communicate with this device"
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Try turning off your wireless.  I had the same problem at work.  Our wireless at work is outside the office wired network and the software will not let you connect if your computer is not on the same network as the playbook. Once I turned off the wireless it worked great.

  • App Error 200???? Desktop Manager not connecting to Device??

I am officially out of ideas for what to do with my phone!!
I changed my pay as you go tariff yesterday and in order to reset the phone to get my internet settings I switched off the handset and turned it on again.
When I turned it back on it started to load as normal then came up with  "App Error 200" message. I have done a hard reset and even after taking out the sim and battery it still wont work.
I know I can change things on my Desktop Manager, but that now wont recognise the phone is connected. I have gone to the 'Options' button (top right hand corner) and applyed the USB connection but is still wont work!!
Can anyone help as I am totally lost and have lost all patients!!!!

  • Torch App Error 606 + Can't connect to desktop Manager

    Hi,
I was backing up my blackberry torch last night and the connection was disconnected during the backup. When the phone restarted the message "App Error 606" / "Reset" came up. I can't do anything on my phone except for reset it, and pulling the battery does nothing.
When I try to connect it to blackberry desktop software it wont connect... I left it for an hour and it still just said that it was connecting.
I also tried connecting to BBSAK and it couldn't connect there either, so I can't reset it to factory settings. I checked the desktop manager and it recognizes the USB port as connected to a blackberry device but that is about as close as I can get to connecting to anything.
I have a backup of all of my information from before this happened so I don't mind completely resetting my phone, but I have no idea how to do this without being able to:
    a) connect it to the computer
    b) do anything except reset on the phone
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • 8900 Not Connecting to Desktop Manager in Boot Camp

    Hi all
I have a problem in Boot Camp (XP Pro) on my new MacBook Pro. My 8900 shows up perfectly in device manager and I can also browse the media card. When I run Desktop Manager 4.7, it cannot pick up the BlackBerry and it shows as Disconnected. I have tried re-installing Desktop Manager and even tried the latest unreleased version 5.0. Browsing other forums have suggested I take the battery out for a minute and try again and this didn't work either.
I have tried going back to DM 4.7, re-installed Bootcamp 2.1 drivers and installed VMWare Fusion. Nothing gets it connected, yet every time the 8900 shows up perfectly in Device Manager.
I installed on my partners HP laptop and it connected immediately in DM. I really need this to work on my Mac (boot camp preferably) and i simply cannot understand why its not working.
