Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
Hopefully something there is helpful!
Cheers!

  • .Desktop Software does not connect to Blackberry Pearl 8130

On Monday, 12/17/12, I accepted an update of Blackberry Desktop Software to 7.1.0.37 (Bundle39). Since then my computer is unable to connect to my Blackbeery Pearl 8130 through the destop software. The computer sees the Blackberry fine, so there is not a problem with the USB cable or connection. It is the Blackberry software that does not work. How do I revert to the previous version of Blackberry Desktop Software (which did work just fine)?

Forget it. I found an old download file on my computer and installed the software and now it works.

  • Desktop Manager does not connect with Storm

Help - I have my head halfway inside a gas oven in sheer desperation.   I have been trying to get the BlackBerry Device Manager on my PC to recognise my Storm for a week now.   I have uninstalled and installed it a trillion times with no change.   I have tried the USB in a number of different sockets.   Today, I took my Storm back to the phone shop.   Their PC instantly recognised the Storm using the same USB cable!   Can someone please tell me what is going wrong and/or how I can remedy the problem without a hammer?

    ok, cool.
So, with DM 4.7 installed, you connect the BB to the USB cable... and you THEN open Desktop Manager.
    What happens?

  • Desktop Manager does not show blackberry connected

I find this desktop manager is NOT set up for the average computer user and just wants you to PAY. As I was quoted $650.00 for one year of support. I will go back to Motorola before I pay that amount of cash. The Motorola software is user friendly and support was FREE. The only reason I got a BLACKBERRY is I won it and I broke my Motorola and needed a new phone anyway.
I have had this paperweight for two weeks and am very tempted to recycle it. I have installed this software twice and reinstalled it twice and every time I try to connect it to my computer the Desktop Manager does not pick up my Blackberry it shows Disconnected yet I have to go to safely remove hardware to disconnect it and it shows in there

I would suggest you use the following procedure to do a clean install of the 4.3 software and download 4.5
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB11320&sliceId=SAL_Pub...
I use this version and it is very stable with XP.
Here is the link for DM 4.5, I would STONGLY advise against downloading the media manager as it media not stable.

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager does not show Media Manager

First, let me say I am a NEW Blackberry user, my hubby and I both got new Blackberry Curves 8310 recently.
When I installed the disc that came with the phone, the Blackberry Desktop Manager does not have the "Media Manager" as one of the choices, as was shown on all of the booklets and tutorials. I even re-installed the program, thinking maybe it didn't download completely the first time, but it still comes up showing only these 4:
Synchronize, Backup & Restore, Application Loader, and Switch Device Wizard.......
All of the directions I've received show that I can easily add pictures and music simply by clicking on Media Manager, but it just isn't there.
Here is info about the installation disk that we received with our phones, supposedly the correct and latest versions . . ..
    Blackberry Desktop Manager
    version 4.3.0.17 (Nov.12 2007)
    Device Communications      Blackberry Device mgr....4.3.0.7
                                             BBDevMgr   ................4.0.0.1
                                             RIM USB Driver.............4.0.0.2
                                             RIM USB Serial Driver.......2.1.0.4
    Application Loader          Application Loader ..........4.3.0.13
                                         RIMProgram .....................1.0.0.35
Seriously, none of these really means a whole lot to me, I just want to click on something and have it work . . .  I did try to "upgrade" to a newer version, and I got the message that the version I had was the newer one, so now what?
I have memory cards inserted in the phone(s).
I will appreciate any help with this, I'm really frustrated. I figured out how to move files manually, but I don't understand why it isn't showing up as illustrated in the instruction manuals and online tutorials.

  • Desktop Manager does not recognize USB Connection

I have installed the Desktop Manager for MAC (v1.0.2) on my MacBook Pro Snow Leopard10.6.3.
When I connect my Storm 9520 the Mac OS recognizes the media storage drives in the 'Finder'.  I can copy files to and from the device media using 'Finder' but the Desktop Manager does not recognize that the device is plugged into the USB (yes I have tried both USB connectors).
    file:///Users/Nigel/Desktop/WaitingForUSB.jpg

I have an 8310, Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6 and the BB desktop v 1.0.2 build 8.  It recently stopped recognizing the USB connection as well.  I was able to sync my BB with the MAC but can no longer do so.  The MAC mounts the BB and I can access the SD card.  What gives here?

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager does not detect my phone

My computer detects my phone when I attach it, but Desktop Manager does not, so I can't manage my phone.

    Hello Flowergirl0044,
Have a look at the following article on how to force the detection of the BlackBerry® smartphone using Application Loader to reload the OS http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10144
If the issue still persists after the reload, further investigation might be required. To help further diagnose the cause, contact your wireless service provider or BlackBerry® Technical Support Services for further review and support.

But the App Manager does not connect. The console at the right bottom just says:
...connecting to localhost:56455 (the port varies)
...connection timeout. Possible causes: didn't click on 'accept' (prompt).
    ...disconnecting

I disabled my firewall, restarted firefox and even the system - did not help

  • Perl Flip 8230 & XP 64-bit - Desktop manager does not respond

    Greetings.
I am using a brand new Perl Flip 8230 (black), along with the new software (the CD has a timestamp of 2008.12.18, well after the last update of 2008.11.17).
When I install the software, it claims to be the 4.7 version, but I am having quite a few issues with it. First of all, while all the drivers install nicely, and the phone is recognized by the connection software, I am unable to *properly* launch the Desktop Manager.
An inital launch (click on icon) of the Desktop Manager causes it to appear in the Task Manager, but it never ends up showing up on the screen. I even tried waiting for 1/2 hr, no dice. A second attempt at launching (without shutting down the process first) does cause it to appear, but it ends up completely unresponsive. There is still only one executable in the Task Manager (the second attempt did not launch a second copy), but what exists on the screen does not respond to any actions.
The window that appears is almost completely blank - the dark grey background-image is visible, but pretty well no other text or icons of any kind exist aside from a large "Menu" at the upper left, which is also nonresponsive. As well, trying to close the window by using the red X at the upper right is completely unsuccessful. In order to close the program, I need to go to the task manager, find the process, and "End Process Tree". Nothing else works.
Finally, the window that does appear also has a version number at the bottom in tiny text - version 4.5 of the desktop manager. HUH?!
I tried to install a downloaded version of 4.7 (in case there was a mix-up at the factory), but it claimed that a newer copy of the software was installed. Somehow "4.7" is older than "4.5". Strange, that. Selecting the "desktopmgr.exe" file to run in compatibility mode as plain old "XP" also does not work.
I tried to repair the installation, no dice. I have now uninstalled the software in preparation of using the 4.7 version straight from the Blackberry website. I will report back on how well that works.
As a final note, I am running Windows XP 64-bit, with the latest service pack (SP2) and all the latest patches and updates (SP3 does not exist for XP 64-bit). I cannot install the software on a 32-bit version of XP because I do not have XP 32-bit on any of my computers. Nor do I have Vista (either 32-bit or 64-bit). I have Linux (5 computers), OpenBSD (3 computers), OpenSolaris (1 computer), Windows 2003 64-bit (2 servers), Windows 2008 64-bit (1 test machine) and several other experimental platforms (HaikuOS, BeOS, etc.), but no XP 32-bit. Sorry.
My other half's computer is an older 1Ghz PowerPC4 iMac (2nd gen iMac - "lampshade" model) running 10.4 (most recent update), but that computer is not one I want to use. I am also unsure if the Blackberry software is capable of running on PowerPC Macs, as it may be Intel-only (I haven't had a chance to check yet).
If someone has any idea why my Desktop Manager is completely unresponsive, please help.
And yes, I did reboot after installation. I seriously doubt that this is an ID-ten-T error. PEBKAC does not apply!!

An installation of the downloaded 4.7 software did not function; all symptoms were idential to the version supplied on CD.
I am shutting this thread down in favour of a post in a more appropriate category. Please provide any replies in that thread.

  • 8830 & Desktop Manager does not recognize Outlook Express 2000, cannot sync

I just installed Desktop Manager 5.0 and connected to my BB 8830.  I use Outlook Express 2000 for calendar and I want to sync it with my BB 8330.  However, in Desktop Manager under Sync / Config / Select Device for calendar, the only choices are Yahoo and Import/Export Text.  Obviously it is not recognizing Outlook Express 2000 as a calendar program.  Does anyone have a solution?
I bought this 8830 mainly to sync its calendar with my Outlook Express calendar.  If it does not work, then I am going to return it to my cell phone carrier.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Outlook 2000 has not been supported since Desktop Manager 4.2.

I would check on Outlook 2003, still supported by MS and the cheapest version still available.

  • Desktop manager does not recognize Outlook 2003.

    Hello everyone,
We have an Exchange server but use POP3 accounts individually on the users also.
I have installed this software (desktop manager) many times with other clients and never had an issue.
On this particular user using Blackberry 9550 v5.0.0.713 I have installed and then uninstalled desktop manager 6.0 because it saw that we had Exchange and automatically assumed Enterprise Server was present, when I chose not to use Enterprise account, it did not see Outlook as a choice to synchronize with.
I then removed 6.0 removed user settings, restarted and installed Desktop Mangager 5.01 sp1.  I chose the option for personal mail.  The synchronize configuration still does not list Outlook as a choice to configure.
Has anyone else run into this?
I found a post that said to make sure that Wireless Sync is off and it is.
    Help please,
    Jeanne

  • Desktop manager does not allow to install 5.0 Firmware

    Hi all,
i got following problem. I try to upgrade several 9000 and 8900 to FW-Versions 5.0.0.190 or higher.
The Desktop-Manager recognizes the installed Firmwares and shows them BUT marks them with an asterisk.
    Then it states
"only users with an activ subscription the the Blackberry-Service are allowed to install this BB Device Software."
Can anybody help me with that problem ?
By the way: it worked once or twice , but now, on any PC i install the Desktop Manager and the Firmware Files this error occurs.
    Greetings from Munich, germany,
    Markus

The device you are upgrading must have an active connection to a BlackBerry Data Plan.
You will see this message if you do not have a data plan on their BlackBerry and they try to use Desktop Manager 5.0 to upgrade to BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 or greater.  Sometimes you will see this error if the user has never turned on the mobile network on their device so that might be all that is needed to work around this.
This is a new requirement of RIM for devices upgrading to OS 5

  • Desktop Manager does not recognize Blackbery Curve

I've looked through prior posts and nothing works to solve this.
I have a Curve 8310 that I've had for awhile with no trouble.  Several times I've reloaded or upgraded DM and never had trouble.  Yesterday I got a new computer, and now I can't get DM to recognize my device.
    Here's more info:
-Checked under device manager and Blackberry is there, so USB cord and port are working.  Whe I plug BB in I can access media on there.
-Uninstalled and reinstalled several different versions of DM, including 4.2, 4.6, 4.7, 4.5, sometimes with media manager, sometimes without.
-I disconneted the BB battery and left it disconnected for several minutes, per a suggestion in another forum.
-I am not connected to a USB hub.
Help!  I've wasted a whole work day on this!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Last time I could connect was 12/23. The desktop manager says device not connected at bottom of window. BUT when you select the connection option, it sees the PIN. The computer sees the BB as well.
Had this problem with DM 4.2. Reinstalled 4.2, still didn't recognize connection. I upgraded DM to 4.6. Still says not connected.
I downloaded new device software (4.5) and tried installing with Application Loader. Funny thing, my BB displays BB to Computer connections picture and knows its being talked to by the Application Loader (or at least the computer), but Application Loader errors saying it can't connect to the BB.
I have messed with USB power management (turned off), turned off antivirus software, changed USB ports.
I am running XP professional as well. I was still on SP1 so upgraded to SP2 thinking maybe this would help (and I needed to anyway). I also have wasted WAY too much time on this.
This happened once several months ago, but then it worked again and I didn't change anything (that I know of). I'm at a loss and nothing anyone has suggested has worked for me yet either. HELP. (I am not on server, this is just my personal BB trying to sync with outlook contact/calendar.) Thought it MIGHT be a bad usb connector on my BB because when I wiggle it slightly, my laptop makes the connect/disconect beebop noise. Maybe I should have the BB checked out? (But then why would it still be recognized as connected by the computer AND be seen by the DM Connections Option window?)

  • Desktop Manager does not recognize my phone

I just got my new BB 8330 from Sprint on Saturday.  Last night I made an attempt to get my phone conncect to my computer and started off by downloading the Desktop Manager from the CD that was included with the phone.  After the download, I attempted to connect my phone via the USB cable.  The phone would only show it was connected for a few seconds then the connection ICON would disappear.  After about 12 attempts of unplugging and plugging it back in, the connect ICON stayed up (this happens everytime I try to connect the USB cable).  I then went to Desktop Magager, but  no luck.  I would not recognize my phone.  I then thought I would reinstall the most recent version (V4.7) but that still did not work.  I am just stumped and as you well know, Sprint Support is not exactly the most helpful.    Just to give you a lil background on my equipment, I will provide the following:
    Spring BB 8330, v4.3.0.127, platform 3.1.0.73
    Windows Vista 32 Bit

Ok, let me ask someone this....  If I can connect my wifes BB Pearl and the Desktop Manager sees that phone, does that mean something is wrong with the USB connection in my phone?  Is there a setting on my phone I should be checking?  PLEASE HELP....
    Thanks,
    Tim
