Desktop Manager doesn't recognize blackberry 8800 series

Hi.  I have a blackberry 8800 series and it is having trouble being recognized by the blackberry desktop manager plugged in via the USB cable.
The blackberry desktop manager is version 4.6.  It's running on a Windows XP laptop.  The account has full administrative access to the laptop.
If you look at the Windows device manager you'll see the blackberry listed.
When you open the blackberry device manager the blackberry PIN is seen for a brief time then it is gone and you see "none".
There is one funny thing that happens.  When you originally plug the blackberry in and then turn on the Device Manager, I see a quick install screen come up.  That screen goes away quickly.
I've done a clean uninstall of the software.  Reinstalled.  Taken the battery out and put it back in.  Placed the blackberry USB cable in every port still no dice.
I've seen numerous posts on the Internet and on this board with similar issue but, none really solved.
Has anyone seen this strange installation window come up?
Thanks for any help.  I really don't want to wipe out either the blackberry or OS on the laptop as there is a time constraint.

I believe that the most recent updates are on the laptop but, I'll check again.   I'm nervous that this is an issue with the laptop.  It's an older Sony Vaio and may not be able to handle the 8800 series.  I looked on Sony's website and updated the Vaio with the most current firmware

  • Desktop Manager Doesn't Recognize My Phone

I've recently upgraded my computer from Windows XP to Windows 7, and on my original XP machine, I had DTM installed and it worked just fine with my Bold 9000. On my new Windows 7 machine, I've downloaded Desktop Manager 6.0, installed it, but when I plug in my phone into the computer, the Summary page in DTM still says "Connect your BlackBerry device". I know my computer recognizes my BB, because I can see it listed as 2 drives under My Computer (BB and my removable memory card). How can I get DTM to recognize my phone?

Hi There, I have a similar problem with my 9105. DM does not see my device. I have tried so many things that I am reaching the point where I go back to Windows Mobile. To make matters worse I paid for the Documents To Go upgrade so that I could sync my docs but that to can not see the device either. On the PC (XP) under device manager it shows as connected. And also as further below. Desperate

  • LaCie Desktop Manager doesn't recognize LaCie RAID with my 2011 MacBook Pro

    Hello,
I have a new MacBook Pro 17" but I am not able to use the LaCie Desktop Manager with the LaCie 4big Quadra Enterprise Class RAID. The drive is recognized by the finder via eSATA, FireWire, USB, but is not recognized by the LaCie Desktop Manager. This prevents me from encrypting the drive. The LaCie Desktop Manager could recognize the raid with my early 2008 MacBook Pro.
I'd like to know if anyone else is having the same problem with their 2011 MacBook Pro.
I have been communicating with LaCie support but he tells me that he can't check the same or similar configuration as mine.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

Looks like the cable is the same if you still have the 2010.

  • Desktop Manager won't recognize Playbook!

I have a recurring issues for 4 weeks whereby the desktop manager will not recognize my Playbook (PB).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled software.
My PB recognizes my PC upon connection.
My PC makes the standard noise when a USB is connected, but the D-Manager refuses to recognize the PB.  Z drive does not come up either. And in Network Connections I have a LAN3 which recognizes the Reseach in Motion unit.
Plus my BB Bold is recognized.
I have already unistalled and re-installed software.  Nothing seems to work.
I have spent 6 hours with RIM tech support going to the highest of levels and nothing.
    HELP! ;-)

Is the PC a Windows based or MAC based?
What operating system are you using?
If you are using XP, you need to install Service Pack3.
With XP you need to install the latest Framework from MS.  Going from memory I believe it is Framework 4.
If you are on Windows 7 you need the latest Service Pack.
You will need the latest version of the Blackberry Desktop software package installed.
Some older PC computers have issues with newer software even with all the OS updates, and not only with RIM software. This is because of the BIOS and chip set on the mother board. In some cases a BIOS upgrade, plus the OS upgrades will fix this type of thing on an older computer.
I have a twelve your old PIII server using dual processors running on XP-Pro that I still use in my network. There is no possible way I was able to get the Desktop software to properly work on it. It turned out to be a mother board chipset issue. The RIM software works on every other newer computer I have in our system.

  • Desktop Manager Won't Recognize Media Card Installed

I have installed a media card in my device.  I have changed the default storage of new pictures to the card.  I would like to move the other images from device memory to the media card, but Desktop Manager will not recognize the media card is installed.  The media card does contain images, and I have successfully emailed attachments.  How can I get Desktop Manager to recognize the media card?

    Hi there!
Here are some instructions for configuring your BB and Media Card to appear as USB drives within Windows:

The only difference might be the version of DTM to use...5.0 is the current version.

  • Desktop Manager does not recognize USB Connection

I have installed the Desktop Manager for MAC (v1.0.2) on my MacBook Pro Snow Leopard10.6.3.
When I connect my Storm 9520 the Mac OS recognizes the media storage drives in the 'Finder'.  I can copy files to and from the device media using 'Finder' but the Desktop Manager does not recognize that the device is plugged into the USB (yes I have tried both USB connectors).
    file:///Users/Nigel/Desktop/WaitingForUSB.jpg

I have an 8310, Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6 and the BB desktop v 1.0.2 build 8.  It recently stopped recognizing the USB connection as well.  I was able to sync my BB with the MAC but can no longer do so.  The MAC mounts the BB and I can access the SD card.  What gives here?

  • Import Manager doesn't recognize E1MARAM segment

Using MDM_CLNT_EXTR and MATERIAL_EXTRACT object to create IDOC for materials.  Use WE14 to send IDOC to XML port.  I then use Import Manager to import XML doc into MDM.
If I use a material number range in MDM_CLNT_EXTR that gets multiple materials, the MDM import manager sees the E1MARAM segment as a source table.  However, if I only specify 1 material number in the extraction program then the import manager doesn't recognize the E1MARAM segment.
I can open the XML files and see that the segment is there. Does anyone have any experience with this?
    Thanks,

  • Blackberry Desktop Software doesn't recognize my .rem files on my SD media card. Cannot sync them to my Mac.

    Hi,
I'm experiencing this problem where Blackberry Desktop Software for Mac 2.3.0 (build 12)  doesn't recognize my .rem files (video and photo) on my SD media card (the Desktop Software app does show that file space on the media card is being used). Therefore, these files cannot be synced, decrypted, and viewed on my computer. I can see them on phone. I do have mass storage mode turned on and I can see the .rem files in the video and photo folders when my phone is connected to my computer. I can copy them to my Mac but since they aren't decrypted, I cannot view them.
I'm going to buy a new phone and I need to get these files off my current phone.  I have a Tour 9630 with BB  OS 5.0 bundle 1600.
I've tried backing up, reformatting the media card, wiping, and restoring but nothing has worked.
Is there any kind of utility that will let me decrypt the files on my computer? Should I try Blackberry Desktop Software for Windows?
I'm hoping someone can provide some suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Hey jack_clarke,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Make sure mass storage mode is enabled on the BlackBerry: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB13564
If this is disabled you won't be able to access your media card from the computer.

  • How do I change settings so Blackberry desktop manager doesn't open when I start my computer??

I want the desktop manager to open when I ask it to, or else to open automatically when I connect my phone to the computer by USB.  Currently, it opens when I start my computer.  I would greatly appreciate any help with this.

Did you install the software from a CD or download it?
If from the CD, put it back in your drive. When the wizard appears choose the Modify option. Select the BlackBerry Desktop Manager from the 3 choices listed and hit Next. Your going to reselect the same options as you did when you first installed the software, but stop and the last step where you have the 2 checkboxes. You want to uncheck the top one that talks about starting the software when the computer starts
If you just downloaded the software go into Add/Remove Programs, select the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and hit the Change/Remove button. Then just follow the steps above.
    Hope this helps

  • Desktop Manager .ALX problem with Blackberry Storm

    Hi,
I am having trouble with the Desktop Manager when I try adding the Associated Press application to a Blackberry Storm (this application is available for free here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/builtforblackberry/news.jsp).  Just for reference:
    *Desktop Manager Version: 4.7.0.32
    *Device Software Version: 4.7.0.76
    *Phone: Blackberry 9530 smartphone
In a particular section of the .ALX file that comes in the download for the AP application there is a section defining what .COD files should be downloaded to a Storm.
    <fileset Java="1.0" _blackberryVersion="[4.7.0,)">

Now if I try adding a "series" attribute, if I want to restrict certain versions of an application for certain phones (9500, 9530 or later phones for example).  Like this:

I get an error message from the Desktop Manager telling me that:
"No additional applications for your device were found."
Is there a way around this, or is this issue being fixed?
Thanks in advance for any response,
    Elliott M.

this is an eternal problem with versions. In my opinion you should look at how things are done on Mozilla Firefox addons version testers.
    they use jokers like 3.0.x
which means the application is said to be valid for 3.0 and 3.0.1 and even 3.0.19.
The 4.7.0 OS is only for 9500 and 9530 OS. If there ever is another touchscreen device with 4.7, it will bear another y like ine 4.7.0.y , with y never used yet.
I hope you will find the answer you seek, though.

  • Desktop Manager does not recognize Blackbery Curve

I've looked through prior posts and nothing works to solve this.
I have a Curve 8310 that I've had for awhile with no trouble.  Several times I've reloaded or upgraded DM and never had trouble.  Yesterday I got a new computer, and now I can't get DM to recognize my device.
    Here's more info:
-Checked under device manager and Blackberry is there, so USB cord and port are working.  Whe I plug BB in I can access media on there.
-Uninstalled and reinstalled several different versions of DM, including 4.2, 4.6, 4.7, 4.5, sometimes with media manager, sometimes without.
-I disconneted the BB battery and left it disconnected for several minutes, per a suggestion in another forum.
-I am not connected to a USB hub.
Help!  I've wasted a whole work day on this!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Last time I could connect was 12/23. The desktop manager says device not connected at bottom of window. BUT when you select the connection option, it sees the PIN. The computer sees the BB as well.
Had this problem with DM 4.2. Reinstalled 4.2, still didn't recognize connection. I upgraded DM to 4.6. Still says not connected.
I downloaded new device software (4.5) and tried installing with Application Loader. Funny thing, my BB displays BB to Computer connections picture and knows its being talked to by the Application Loader (or at least the computer), but Application Loader errors saying it can't connect to the BB.
I have messed with USB power management (turned off), turned off antivirus software, changed USB ports.
I am running XP professional as well. I was still on SP1 so upgraded to SP2 thinking maybe this would help (and I needed to anyway). I also have wasted WAY too much time on this.
This happened once several months ago, but then it worked again and I didn't change anything (that I know of). I'm at a loss and nothing anyone has suggested has worked for me yet either. HELP. (I am not on server, this is just my personal BB trying to sync with outlook contact/calendar.) Thought it MIGHT be a bad usb connector on my BB because when I wiggle it slightly, my laptop makes the connect/disconect beebop noise. Maybe I should have the BB checked out? (But then why would it still be recognized as connected by the computer AND be seen by the DM Connections Option window?)

  • Desktop manager won't recognize my 8700v!!!

    hi
i have a bb 8700v which I never backed up on my MAC.
now i just bought a new bold 9780, which came with the installation cd.
i installed the Desktop manager version 2.0, then connected my old 8700 so i could back it up and then i wanted to connect my new 9780 and transfer the data.
so after installing the desktop manager, i plugged in my 8700, but the manager wouldn't recognize it. so i installed an older version of the desktop manager (1.0) but that didn't work either.
can somebody help me here please?!
    thanks!!

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager won't read Blackberry Torch

I've been having trouble with my Blackberry Torch as my computer will not recognize it in Blackberry Desktop Software. It's actually very wierd because I will plug my phone in to a USB port and the port will charge the phone, but nothing else happens. The reason why this is weird because I've had it work for a long time and then one day, it just didn't work any more. I've done every type of trouble-shooting listed in the Help menu including rebooting the computer/phone, replacing the cable, re-downloading the software, etc etc. I've also been able to connect the phone using Bluetooth, but unfortunately I was limited with what I could do with that connection (ie. I couldn't tranfer any music/media).
So yeah if you have any suggestions, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it.

    VertNellie wrote:
I'm having the same exact problem and I have done each and every troubleshooting tip, and nothing has worked. Any other suggestions?
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here is something you should first perhaps try, before those tricks. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    4) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Now you are ready to try the tricks, but since this thread is so ancient, I'll re-post my current list of things to try...
Here is the list of troubleshooting articles...hopefully something will be useful:

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!

  • Desktop manager doesn't reinstall on Windows 7 machine

I have been trying to install desktop manager and continue to get errors.  I started by installing the CD from Verizon, but when it installed it generated a blank black window with no menus.  At that point I tried to update from the web, but it wouldn't verify that the blackberry device was plugged in to the computer after installation.  Then I tried to procedure for a clean uninstall on the support blog.  The procedure had no specific instructions for windows 7 but I thought I followed it closely.  Now the install wizard starts but says that it was interrupted prior to completion and no modifications have been made.  Does someone have a work around to install the software if some unidentified piece remains on the hard drive?  Thanks.

Just to make sure, you followed all the steps about performing a clean uninstall correct?
Does other software install fine and just not the Desktop Manager. Try downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555175
If it finds references to the Desktop Manager it should be able to remove them for you. Afterwards reboot the computer and try to install Desktop Manager from the web again.
