Desktop Manager Failing to Back up muitiple databases

Hi,
I have a blackberry that i am trying to back up.
It fails on Automatic backup. I watch to see what database it was failing on. The database was phone options. I tried to remove this from the list of databases in Advance but it would not removed. I tried to do a selective back up and it started to fail on different databases. WTLS options and the WLAN option.
I really want to try and avoid wiping the device and starting again.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks

Hey SRinger1,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Are you able to setup a synchronization in BlackBerry Desktop Software, or is that greyed out as well?
Also I would suggest to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
And then re-download BlackBerry Desktop Software at www.blackberry.com/desktop

  • Help: BlackBerry Desktop Manager failed

I go install apps i get the following
BlackBerry® Desktop Manager failed to validate your BlackBerry® device update.
Validation failed because a module marked for add (net_rim_platform_resource__pt) is not available on local disk
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The error that I had was
"BlackBerry® Desktop Manager failed to validate your BlackBerry® device update. Validation failed because a module marked for add (net_rim_platform_resource__pt) is not available on local disk "
I could not install anything because of that error. So I choose to uninstalled languages except for english and the myspace app just to see what would happen. Everything was uninstalled perfectly, the installation of the trial app installed at the same time. No errors so far.

  • Desktop Manager fails to synch with Yahoo Address Book on my 8300

I have been synching both Yahoo Address Book and Yahoo Calendar successfully for months.  Suddenly, Address Book no longer synchs.  Yahoo calendar still works.  The problem occurs aftew Desktop reads all the contacts.  It halts while "Synchronization Progress...reading from Yahoo Address Book" displays.  That message has displayed for up to an hour with no progress.  I then disconnect and halt Desktop.  I can still synch Yahoo Calendar.  I have not updated desktop or device software.  Anybody have any suggestions?

No Sync with Yahoo Address Book Workaround:
Work Around for Blackberry to Yahoo Sync when Address Book Sync Gets Stuck:
I've had the Address Book on my Yahoo Sync hang on two different occasions.  The first time was late 2009 and the second was late Jan 2010.  The first time the problem fixed itself. This time, no such luck yet.  So if you are having the same problem, here's a work around that will allow you to update both your Yahoo and Blackberry Contacts and keep them in sync.
Step 1: From Yahoo, EXPORT your contacts to Windows Contacts (I did this in Vista and it also works for Windows 7 -- it should also work for XP, but the export may be a different expension).  You will want to export using the 'vCard, Zip of .VCF files'.  his will create a zip file of all your contacts with in the vcard format: (.VCF)
Step 2: Some manual labor in this step, but you will only have to do it once OR you can try a .vcf to .contact file converter program like:
http://www.vcardconverter.com/ that will cost you 19.95. Open each contact in the zip file. It will show you the contact data and there will be a button that you can click to ADD TO MY CONTACTS.  Do this for each contact in the exported zip file. Or but the program.
You now have your Yahoo Address Book converted over to Window Contacts.
Step 3: In the Blackberry Desktop Manager change your synchronization setting for your address book from Yahoo to 'Window Address Book/Mail'.  Leave the Calendar, MenoPad, and Task to sync with Yahoo.  So you should have:
    Calendar sync to Yahoo
    MemoPad sync to Yahoo
Address Book sync to Windows Address Book/Mail
    Task sync to Yahoo
Step 4: You now can perform a sync to you Blackberry Device. (But read the notes below first)
    SOME IMPORTANT NOTES:
This allows you to get your contacts into your Blackberry and to sync them with your Windows Contacts.  You can make this a three way sync where you also keep your Windows Contacts and Yahoo Address Book in sync.  It just adds an extra sync.  NOTE: If you are going to do this then pay the 20 bucks and buy the program above or find a program to convert .contact files to vcf (vcard) files. I've decided to buy the program above because it allows me to import and export all the contacts at one time, which is what you will need to use the import / export tools in Yahoo Contacts
I did the sync of the address book in steps.  I was lucky / unlucky because I tried to do a Blackberry software upgrade that failed and it wiped out all of my contacts, calendar, tasks, and memos; so when I did my first sync, I when only from the Blackberry Desktop Manager to my Blackberry.  I then changed my sync to be a two way sync.  I only mention this because I don't know if going from Windows Contact to Blackberry would create duplicate entries in your Blackberry and Windows Contact Manager.  Maybe someone can check this out and post. Anyway, I would suggest trying the sync with only a few contacts to check it out.
You don't need to worry about the folder that the Blackberry Desktop Manager will store the contacts.  It assumes the 'Contacts' folder on you machine.  As far as I could tell, there was no way to change this destination anyway.
    ALTERNATIVE APPROACH:
If I was to do this all over, and I had my contacts still on my blackberry, I would most likely do the following (in theory):
    Step 1.
Change the sync for contacts to be with Windows Address Book, not Yahoo.
    Step 2.
Sync the contacts so they would appear in the Windows Contacts.
Step 3. Then worry about syncing Windows Contacts with Yahoo (see above)
    Good luck,

  • Software update via desktop manager failed, phone will not boot

I used the Desktop Software (I had to update this first to version 6.00.43; anyway, that's what the Rim.Desktop.exe file properties in Windows Explorer says it is) to update my Curve 8900 's software. It went through the first two steps of downloading and installing; then just sat there stuck on the reboot step -- no kind of error message, just stuck, with phone displaying the AT&T sign on screen for probably a good chunk of lat night (started doing this a little before bed) and all through the day today. Only removing the battery will shut off the phone; once restarted, the white progress bar fills up over a number of minutes and goes back to the AT& screen again; hangup button will not shut the phone down. If I reconnect the USB and the Desktop Software is still running, status message continues to say "disconnected"; if I first connect the USB and then start the software, get a "connecting..." status message but it never connects. Windows 7 "Safely Remove Hardware" list does not display it.
    Any way to fix this?
    Bard55

    Close Desktop Manager.
    Then do this:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_wipe_the_BlackBerry_using_Jl_Cmder%3F
Then follow the instructions exactly in the first post of this thread to install the OS listed there.:
    http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-8900-series-discussion-javelin/227412-os-8900-v5-0-0-1168-5-...
Once you have that done, then you can use Desktop manager to restore the backup file that the original update should have made.

  • Desktop Manager won't back up 9800 Torch

I can not get Desktop Manager to back up my 9800 Torch. ALthough it  "sees" the device ( in that it identifies it as 9800 and the PIN number), when I try to back up the phone the option is grayed out. When I try to connect it gives me a message like " Can not connect to device. If battery is dead or it is rebooting, try to connect later"

  • Desktop Manager fails during launch

When I first got my Alltel Blackberry Pearl 8130 some months ago, I used BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.5 (installed from the included disk) to synchronize my Blackberry with my contacts, tasks and notes I keep with my desktop PC using Microsoft OutLook . Two days ago, I tried to re-sync my Blackberry with OutLook. Now, Blackberry Desktop Manager (DM) does not launch completely. After the icon is double-clicked, the "BlackBerry DeskTop Window" opens but it is not populated with the choice buttons. The program is non-responsive. The only action possible is to close the program by clicking the "X" in the upper right hand corner and then click the "Stop Now" buttom when the error (No Response) window opens. In the Task bar in the lower right hand corner, the icon of a Blackberry has an "X" through it and, when moused over, displays the message "Desktop Manager - Disabled."
Has anyone else experienced this. Is there a solution? Is there another program that be used to synchronize the Blackberry and OutLook.
Here's a list of what I have done to date in unsuccessful attempts to fix this issue:
    (I'm running Windows XP SP3 )
    1. Did a complete un-install of DM 4.5 and cleaned the registry of all references to RIM, Blackberry and Roxio before re-installing DM 4.5 from the disk.
    2.  Did a complete un-install of DM 4.5 and cleaned the registry of all references to RIM, Blackberry and Roxio before installing DM 5.0 that was downloaded from the Blackberry site.
    3. Tried a "clean" install of both DM 4.5 and DM 5.0 with all startup programs, anti-virus program and non-Microsoft processes disabled via MSCONFIG.
    4. Downloaded, Installed, un-installed and re-installed  in various combinations and permutations the " USB and Modem Driver" msi file available on the site and DM versions 4.5 and 5.0.
    5. Did a "clean" install of the 8130 device file available from the Alltel site. (Still not sure what that file does.It certainly installs and can be deleted via the Add/Delete control panel but does not add the DM files in a recognizable location.)
Any help, suggestions, etc would be greatly appreciated

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
This procedure may or may not be redundant to what you have already attempted...
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package (fyi...this modifies DTM so that it is customized for your BB on your carrier...there is no noticeable difference within DTM...it simply allows it to offer you appropriate updates)
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Desktop manager failing to synchronise

    Hi
When I try to synchronise my phone with Outlook (I'm on 2007) I keep getting the error message: "The operation terminated unexpectedly". This happened a month or so ago too, so I uninstalled the software, then reinstalled it which fixed the problem. However, this time I've tried doing this twice and it is still not working.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I am thinking the installation is corrupt. Here is the correct procedure for installation.
I have found 4.5 to be extremely stable with XP, I use it and it's rock steady.
    I would do the following:
Use this link to uninstall the current DM
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206&sliceId=SAL_Pub...
Download DM 4.5  without Media manager. MM is very unstable:

Download these USB drivers for 4.5
BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers ENG (DM4.5 B13)

    Date posted: 24-June-07
    Download Software
    Here is the manual:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/deliverables/3392/Desktop_enterprise_45_final_492431_11.pdf
Cold boot the PC. Turn of all virus checkers and firewalls.
Install the DM and configure for Outlook 2003.
    On the BB:
Pull the battery while the device is ON, replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min,
Start the DM and plug the BB into the USB.cable
    Sync.
Let us know how it goes.

Each time I try to back up my Curve to my Mac, it fails when backing up "RMS Databases". I have to shutdown the Curve and restart it after each attempt. I'm currently running version 4.5.0.160 (I see there is a newer version, but can't install till I get a good backup).
Has anyone got it to back up a Curve?
    Thanks,
    Des

Hm.. that is weird. I can backup my "RMS Databases" on my Bold, when I click on Backup, and then choose "Selected data", and check only "RMS Databases".. I'm not sure what that database is, but if it shows that it has 0 records, then you might not have to worry about it.
When you do a full backup, does it say "Backup data completed" though? It would say this at the bottom of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager window.... if it did, then it probably means it backed up everything except that database.
You can confirm by doing a backup, and choose "Selected data", and then check all the databases, except for "RMS Databases"

  • Is it possible to see my phone numbers and addresses that I backed up in the blackberry desktop manager

I know it may be a silly question -- but I finally was able to download the blackberry desktop manager and then back up all the data from my blackberry to my computer via the desktop manager.  For my peace of mind, I would like to see some of this data (addresses and phone numbers) just to insure that I did the back up correctly.  Is this possible?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
The file that contains the backup data is designed as proprietery to the Backup/Restore process. It is not designed to be read independently. There are some third party readers, can't recall the names (Amber-something-or-other?), but if you search for an application that can read an IPD file, you might find what you are looking for.
    Good luck!

  • Apps won't install: BlackBerry Desktop Mgr failed to validate your BlackBerry device update

Just tried out the new Desktop Manager for Mac and it seems to blow up when trying to either install or uninstall applications.
    I get the following error:
BlackBerry® Desktop Manager failed to validate your BlackBerry® device update.
Validation failed because a module marked for add (net_rim_platform_resource__pt) is not available on local disk
Some users have reported success with uninstalling an app first, but no luck with me.
Anyone have any ideas on this?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi,
I've had the same problem and I have figured it out...for me anyway.  Make sure you have the latest version of Blackberry Desktop Manager and obviously the lastest software for BlackBerry Torch also.  So, ths is what worked for me...
connect phone to computer and click on Applications (top right)
    click "Check for Updates"
click "Show Other Versions" (if there are no updates for phone)
    chose "BlackBerry 6.0  6.0.0.246 (Current Version-Reload)
    then select
Once this has reloaded and your device is restarted go back to Applications and add/delete (by checking or un-checking) what you want.
*Warning:  I had a fair amount of trouble with error messages or something having to be reset, but after going through all the red tape and turning my phone off and on again a couple times it worked!!
Hope this helps or at least gets you started.

  • Desktop Manager just erased my life.

When switching the option on the main page "data folder options", Desktop Manager fails to inform you that the location of the new folder will irrevocably delete the entire contents of the folder of the new location.
My blackberry contact backup was there.  RIM, you have cost me countless hours, important contact info, my appointments for the next several months.

The backup file was on E:\Backups.  The original Sync location was the default (C:\Users\Me\etc.)
My backup was in the E:\Backups.  I moved the Sync folder to E:\Backups because I thought that's where the backups were found.  Once done, Desktop manager wipes everything in that folder with no warnings.
Undelete didn't work, folder structure overwrote the sectors.
I've tested this after the fact to see if I was insane.  I threw a few MP3s into a folder, and switched the location again with dekstop manager to where the MP3s are located.  Sure enough, all files are wiped, and only those two folders (which are created by DM) are there.
Why is there no warning?  Why does RIM think they have the right to delete files off of our computers?  I'll be handing the EULA to one of my lawyers, and see if there's a case here.  I have my doubts, but we'll see.

  • Is there a way to back-up my phone to desktop manager without USB?

The port on my Storm has failed.  I cannot charge my phone or attach it to my Blackberry desktop manager via USB.  Is there  a way to connect to desktop manager using bluetooth?  I would like to get a good back-up of my phone before I take it to the Verizon store because I am pretty sure they are just going to want to replace it.  I don't want to lose all of the things on my phone since the last back-up.  Thanks!

Yes, look at page 167 of the user guide.

  • Desktop manager 7.1 fails to restore Contacts and Calendar from backups

Today I discovered that I lost my contact and calendar lists on my playbook after upgrading to OS version 2.1.0.1032.
As a precaution I backed up my device data and apps using desktop manager 7.1 and used windows explorer to duplicate my media folder using the Z:drive option before I started the OS upgrade.
Since I learned how to deal with lost device data and apps on my BB smart phone I was confident that I could apply this knowledge to my Playbook too, just in case something happened.
Well, something happened. My PlayBook backup file became a trap even so the desktop manager manual said: “To restore all your smartphone data or tablet data, click All device data and settings.”
If one ‘thinks’ the phone learning curve can be applied to the Playbook one is doomed as I found out today. The PlayBook backup function for the contact and calendar listing behaves differently than for the BB phone. There is no warning in Desktop Manager 7.1 which says: “This backup file excludes contact and calendar data files which were manually built by the user and are not part of a synced email server”.
So this posting is about letting other users know to be aware of some OS 2.1.0.1032 short comings. If your contact and/or calendar list was manually built, i.e. it was not linked to an email account you might encounter the above issue.
When I noticed that my contact and calendar file did not sync with my email account I started to use my contact list for everything useful to remember not just contacts. There were many extra fields available in the PlayBook contact list which could not be matched with the limited fields found in other synced contact lists. So I built a big ‘Good to Know’ file with all kinds of info hoping that one day I could use it also with BB10.
Unfortunately this OS version wiped my contact and calendar lists which none of the other OS updates were able to do and the ‘Restore’ option via desktop manger 7.1 did not work!!!.  So it looks like some engineering wizard at RIM is trying to upset the non-linked contact list users with this release version.
I hope RIM finds this ‘group of moles(?)' and deals with these engineers before they can do anymore damage. Remember RIM, the object is to enjoy new updates not to fear them. It would be nice if desktop manager 7.2 would alert us users with a warning or lets us export these files via another tip like: “How can I back up contact and calendar files for the PlayBook“. I realize as of today that this problem was with me all along but came only to light after this OS release wiped my 2 lists completely. There is also no hint in the PB or Desktop user manuals!
For the time being I will use only my phone’s contact and calendar lists via the bridge as a work around  but I hope the responsible RIM manager reads this postings and tells his engineers to go forward not backwards. Tell them to include a backup feature for non-linked contact and calendar data in 7.2. Not everybody has linked data files or if this is RIM’s intention then let us users know upfront that one could loose his/her data.
If you ‘liked’ this posting click the ‘Thumb up’ box near by even so this issue has no solution at this point in time. Let’s hope RIM deals with this issue eventually.
