Desktop Manager freezes when looking for device app. updates

I NEED to use the Desktop Manager because I want to remove apps from my 8130 that I believe are bogging my phone down and causing it to act wierd (like Yahoo Messenger!) So I connect my phone, click on DM. Instantly a gray box comes up saying "Searching for device application updates. Please wait." It runs and runs and never does anything. I allowed it to go for 20 minutes one time just to see if I was just being too impatient, but still nothing. I click "Cancel" and DM goes into "Not Responding".
I have repeated this cycle several times... decided maybe it was the software (v4.7) and went to do an uninstall. It goes to compute system space and comes back with a 1606 error, something to do with "network something or other". So I cannot even UNINSTALL it!
What gives? I have noticed several others says they have had problems with 4.7 crashing their computer, which hasn't happened to me yet... but has anyone else had what I just described happened to them. And if so, what did you do to fix it?
Nick

Possibly...but if the issues wind up being intermingled (as they so often do), then having them separated becomes confusing. The way these forums work is that there are many of us here volunteering in our spare time to help out. And that means needing to have clean hand-offs of information so that anyone can pick up from another (since, for instance, I need to dash out right about now...someone else will need to pick up). If one post here only has a subset of the total story, someone picking it up here will have no way to realize that other things were tried in another thread. The key for each OP is to keep it to one thread unless and until it can be determined that things should be split -- and then we can have the mods do that if we need it. For your issues, while it's so new and in the initial diagnosis stages, keeping it in one place would be cleaner.
BTW -- all of that is merely IMHO. I have no "power" over what anyone here does. I'm just a volunteer.

  • Desktop Manager 5.0 searches for device upgrades

Hi...yesterday, in my infinite wisdom, I decided to upgrade the Desktop Manager from 4.5. I started by upgrading to 4.7and I let it "check for upgrades." When it finished, it found 5.0,so, I upgraded again to 5.0--again, letting it check for upgrades. It found some upgrades that weren't real--and RIM tech support walked me through reinstalling the OS, which also deleted all data on my BB but not the 3rd party apps that were installed. So, I re-entered data and today, I've got things up and running just fine. Also, the Desktop Manager works just fine, synchronizing with Outlook and making backups.
I've begun to find this "checking for updates" behavior annoying, so, I read here and found that I can modify the installation from Add/Remove Programs (I'm using XP, SP3). I made the change (set "check for updates" to "not installed on this computer" and removed the check from the box on the final screen), and then I rebooted the computer.
The "check for updates" link no longer appears in the BB Desktop Manager, BUT, each time I plug in my device, it checks for Device updates. Is there some way to stop this truly annoying behavior? I'm guessing that my actions stopped Desktop Manager from checking for updates to itself but not to the device and I can't find any options to turn off this behavior.
     Thanks!!

Issues are resolved when software is doing something that is not inherent to its purpose.  This is a prime purpose of DTM.
That you don't want it to check for device updates does not constitute it being a software bug/issue.

Not other than parental oversight. On the computer you can implement Parental Controls on a separate user account that they would use. You can then block certain websites. But you cannot do that on the iPad.
You could change your iTunes account such that they cannot access it in order to buy or download apps.

  • Looking for an app that will manage all my business contacts (5,000 ) by company and then by name

I'm looking for an app that will manage all my business contacts (5,000+). Want the app to categorize by company and then by name, kind of like an organization chart

I just downloaded "FastContact" for free but its too slow while searching. After more research I saw "ABContacts" but don't want to pay $5 for something I may not be looking for.
    Any suggestions?

The only thing available to you is the restrictiions section in settings.  Due to sandboxing, apps cannot interoperate with other apps except for sending data files from one app to another if allowed.  There is no app that will help you.

I looked at Bento and at first glance I think it would do everything I want it to do, then I saw a review or something from a customer that indicated the information in Bento could not be exported (say to send out a mailing).  I may want a program that can do that as well, is there one out there? If not it does look like Bento will work.  When you save a picture to a customer in Bento can you open it up full size?

  • Looking for some app which send SMS when there is Sim change in Iphone 4 G. Do we have any such software which is free

looking for some app which send SMS when there is Sim change in Iphone 4 G. Do we have any such software which is free or even paid will work.

I thought that is what the big deal was that people did not know until they opened the box and started using the iPhone 5, that it not only worked with one carrier but several carriers.  I did not say it will work with any carrier at one time.  I was trying to find out the reason for this and why people were so surprised that the iPhone 5 had this function and the reason for it.  As stated in my post, is it there so that after your contract is up and you want to go to another carrier you do not have to purchase a new iPhone, you  cna purchase a SIM card that works with your new carrier.
The Otterbox Defender has a tendency to let too much dirt, dust, etc. in the cracks on the case. At least this has been my expereince.  I was thinking something more along some of the really durable cases at BallisticCaseCo.com
As far as the iPhone 5 having issues, I have heard that there were more than usual with the first couple of manufactured batches that were shipped.  For example the Map App by Apple, the scratches on the backside of hundreds of iPhones, etc.  I am hoping these will get to be less and less, but with the recent riot at the one plant in China where the iPhone 5 is assembled is supposed to increase the waiting time.

  • BB Desktop 7 freezes when it gets to 2190 contacts.

Can anyone help me out with my desktop manager freezing?  I'm using PC  BB Desktop software version 7.0.0.59 (Bundle 60) and every time it looks at my contacts and gets to 2190, it freezes and shuts down the BB desktop software.  I have around 3000 contacts so it's not even finished reviewing all of them.

"Reviewing"? Hmmm...do you mean it's attempting to synchronize with your Desktop Organizer (e.g., Outlook), and it's stopping on that record? If so, that record might be somehow corrupt. To find it, you need to export your Contacts from your Desktop Organizer...I have heard that the order they are exported will match the order that the RIM Desktop Software is working with them, which will allow you to find that record and then edit it in your Organizer to correct the corruption (you might have to copy the data to a new Contact Record and delete the old one).
    Good luck!

  • Desktop Manager Freezing... Please help.

    Hello,
I am new to the BB world and am having a problem with Desktop Manager (v4.6).  When I open the Desktop Manager and connect my device it just stays at the "Checking for device application updates. Please wait..." (I've left it here for at least 10 minutes one time and it shouldn't take that long, I assume) and when I click cancel the program becomes unresponsive. I've tried restarting my computer and re-installing the app and soft reboots on the phone, but still the same problem. What am I supposed to do to upload apps and backup/restore my phone, etc, if I can't get the program to load correctly?
    Thank you for any help.

    Solved!

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Do you have an Internet connection?
If not, you will have to down grade the desktop software.
If you do reboot the PC, disable all virus checkers, firewall programs (modem shark) if you have it,
Try running the desktop again. The desktop checks for device upgrades and application upgrades via
the internet. If it runs, then make sure your firewall and virus checkers have options allowed for
    the new program.
    Let us know,
    Thanks

  • Looking for a app that will go out and get all my credit card balances.

I am looking for a App that can go on all the web sites for my Credit Cards and download the balance Interest Rate Payment.....
Anyone know of a good one?

I recommend that instead of working on an iPad application you get a good web programmer in and set up a web-facing system that can be used from anything with a web browser --  an iPad, a smartphone, a laptop or a desktop.  Then your employees can access the system from any computer with a web browser, and you don't need to employ an expensive specialist programmer to produce a system which is useless for devices made by other manufacturers.  The only requirement for use will be that your devices must in range of either WiFi or a phone signal.
It will also mean that if you need to change your software at any time you only have to change one copy, back at headquarters, rather than update an App on every individual iPad.
Apple's web browsers (including the ones built into iDevices) allow a web site to request the user's location, so people using an iPad should be able to do the things you have asked for.

  • Looking for an app for my Tour

I'm looking for an app for my tour. I own a small lawncare/landscape bus and am looking for something when i get done with a job i can pull up the clients record and just click if they have paid or were billed. And when i get checks in the mail that i can just click the same thing, that they have paid. I would really like to be able to sync it up to my wife's tour also as she handles alot of the bookwork part. Any suggestions?

I'd set up a excel worksheet that syncs with your wife's/bookkeeper's worksheet of the same name at your office.  You may sync it either of a several ways - via remote central server/desktop, via hard line/wire during normal sync process or via him/her sending you the updated file and you overwriting it on your smartphone.  Whenever he/she updates your AR records, you'll have the latest details results provided you update the file periodically yourself.

  • Looking for an app that combines an equalizer with video out.

I'm looking for an app that has video out (like "Upsize" or the iPod built-in photo slideshow) with an equalizer (preferably like "Denon Audio" or "EQ Pro" so that I can listen to equalized music through my TV. Upsize is close, as it allows for album art to be displayed on my TV while the music plays however, it does not control volume and you must use the iTunes equalizer before you start the app. My TV is the type that will not play audio without an accompanying video signal when using a component cable to connect my iPod to the TV inputs.
