Desktop Manager - no actions operational
I have recently bought a BB 9700 Bold through O2. This included the desktop software cd. I loaded this and made a connection to my pc via a USB cable. The BB was recognised by my pc, all the drivers seem to be in order, but when I call up desktop manager, it confirms my BB is connected, but I do not have any drop downs, there are six options in the window: Media, Aplication Loader, Back up and Restore, Device Switch Wizard, Synchronize and IP Modem. Double clicking on any of these options does absolutely nothing! I am trying to be more efficient with my time, so synchronising with contacts, calendar etc. within MS Outlook is my key option, but none of this is possible. I have downloaded the updated version of Desktop manager from the BB website, by invitation from my registration and this makes no difference at all. I have spoken to O2 technical team, who have no idea what is wrong and it is just impossible to make a connection with RIM as a single, non-enterprise user. There is probably a post out there giving me the precise instruction to kick my Desktop Manager into action, but maybe one of you good people could point me in the right direction.
You don't need to "double-click" the icons/buttons.
Just click. Once.

It worked once before but now it's blank.... the main menu is missing. It says my device is connected at the bottom and the options & help drop-down menu are there. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling but I still have the same problem.
A few questions for you,
1.what is the version of the desktop manager and what operating system are you running?
2. if you do not connect the blackberry is desktop manager still blank?
3. did you upgrade to the new desktop manager from a previous version and if so is the previous version still listed in your add and remove programs (programs and features for vista or win7)
4.what anti virus/firewall software are you using? -
BB Desktop Manager for PC hangs during start-up
My wife has a 2 years old HP laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit OS, at Service Pack 1 level. BB Desktop Manager for PC hangs during it's (BB Desktop's) start-up. Initially the screen with BlackBerry Desktop Manager and the BB logo appears but then it goes away and a smallish screen appears and never changes from a blank grey screen. If you mouse over the border it indicates it is not responding. She has been using this product on this PC with no major problems for several years. Looking in the Events Viewer, it seems the error first appears on 10/9/2011. Yesterday I tried to fix the issue by installing the laciest version RIM 6.1.0.36 (she was using .35) That made no difference. I have the program set to run as an Administrator and have told Norton to Trust it.
The Event log entry for the oldest such event contains the following:
The program Rim.Desktop.exe version 6.1.0.35 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
Process ID: 41d4

Since it is necessary to either task-manager the blank window shut or to tell it to force it to close, these errors may be generated by that action.
Today I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still no improvement. Any suggestions?I have just copied in the most recent attempt to start it. The full log is quite large

in the Windows System tray, you should have a BlackBerry icon. click on it to invoke the window. there will be several tabs, in one of them you can untick the option to load Desktop Manager at startup.

BB Desktop Manager no longer works with Mac Maverick - Need Help Urgently
I have been a loyal Blackberry user since the Government of Canada officially began using these cell phones. I feel, however, abandoned by Blackberry (they obviously don't believe that it is easier to retain an existing customer than acquire a new one). I'm using a Blackberry Bold (9900) with a Macbook Pro. Everything was fine until I upgraded my Mac operating system to Maverick; my Blackberry Desktop Manager no longer works, so I cannot sync the content (contacts, calendar) of my phone with my Mac, but that's not the worst of it.
I recently had a momentary lapse and exceeded the 10 password attempts to access my phone... this accidentally wiped my phone clean... and because Desktop Manager does not work with Mac, I do not have a way to recover my data. Rogers was of no help and had Blackberry updated its desktop software months ago, as it should have, this issue would have been moot. I do not know how or why, but I was able to recover most of my data, but I'm not sure just how up-to-date tha data is and am still going through it, but I'm having issues with some functionality.
I'm in the US for several months and have suspended my Canadian services. Prior to the wipe, I was able to use wifi on my phone to send and receive emails with no problem. After the wipe, I can't send emails or bbms. I checked my blackberry internet service and all email accounts are good to go. BBMs are another issue. I need help. Suggestions please.Apple has ceased synchronization with Mavericks. The issue lies with Apple, not with the desktop software. To mitigate the lack of sync capabilities in Mavericks you can sync your contacts and calender on your Mac with the usual suspects (Yahoo, Google). Create a backup (archive) for Contacts and Calender on your Mac first, then create one of those email accouonts that allow syncing. On your 9900 and with BlackBerry provisioning enabled create the new or existing email account. See which email accounts can sync with BB, I know Yahoo is working fine. For Yahoo, get the Yahoo Calender sync (a few bucks one-off payment required), Contacts sync works off the shelf within BB. If you reset the 9900 you should be able to restore all data with BB DTM. Please note that emails you received during the 9900 reset and the date of restore will not be available on the device. You will still not be able to sync contacts/calender over BB DTM. I hope that helps.

BB Desktop Manager v4.7 error
I recently downloaded v4.7 for the desktop and was having issues so I removed it from my computer. I tried to reinstall but it won't let me. I am no longer getting the error code for the .msi file to be located, but I am now getting that "the wizard was interrupted before Blackberry Desktop Software could be completely installed. Your system at this time has not been modified. to complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click finish to exit." Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to get everything completely uninstalled and then reinstall it with no problems? I know that it is still showing up in the Add/Remove program but won't allow it to be removed. Not sure what all I need to get removed. Also have BlackBerry Media Sync installed. Any help would be appreciated as this happened yesterday and I am still fighting with it to get it corrected.
Hi and welcome to the forums!
Try this procedure to cleanly remove the desktop manager from your PC and then reinstall the software.

Model: Curve 8900
Provider: At&t
Platform: 4.2.0.108
I'm ready to throw this phone in the blender.... if I could only back up my data first. A couple of months ago the What's App application required an update. I updated it and ever since my phone has steadily had more and more issues. First, I kept getting this uncaught error message, shortly thereafter the 2 email accounts (both gmail) that I have linked to the account disappeared. The message icon shows that I have messages, but icons not there (I have tried the show all option). At one point the message icon started exponentially adding the number of messages until it got up to over 86,000. When I reboot the phone it goes back down and then steadily increases again... usually though it's more to 400 - 500 rather then tens of thousands. I have been trying to install updates and do a wipe of the BB so that I can start from scratch, unfortunately the application loader is unable to back up data. The desktop manager is unable to connect to the blackberry and indicates that an upgrade is required. I have tried doing the upgrade both directly from the phone and connected to the desktop manager, but nothing seems to work. If I try to upgrade the software directly from the BB, I get to the start download button and when I click, nothing happens. I have removed all applications except bberry app world and one game that I play, Pixelated Plus. Still nothing. Any ideas?Do you want to save the messages?
If not (and I think they are the problem) open the Desktop Software > Device > Delete Data and click the "select Data" option. Select the Messages to remove. Complete the prompts and finish.
Then, return to backup the entire device, and see if that is possible to complete this time with no messages.
Now, once the back up is done and you have your data, you can disconnect the device.
Now, use BBSAK to wipe the device and subsequently load the new operating system.
**If you cannot complete the backup again above, you might have to do without it, OR you can use the Desktop Software to sync your Address book, calendar, memos and tasks to Outlook. OR, you can easily install and use BlackBerry Protect to backup your device over the air to RIM servers, then once wiped and the new OS reloaded, you can use Protect to restore the data back to the 8900. << This you should do regardless.
Good luck, post back here as you have questions.

Please help me: Failed 8310 OS update to OS 4.5 via Desktop Manager
Hello BB Community,
As of this morning, I can't use my Blackberry curve 8310......for anything.
My problems started just as I was about to do a routine USB cable sync between my BB and Outlook.
I was informed by Desktop Manager v 4.7 that OS 4.5 is available.
I delayed the sync, and start the update process.
Everything............. except my BB restart and data reload.......... completed flawlessly.
Then a message says the update has failed, & the entire thing halts.
So, I wait a while then pull the USB cable & turn off the BB.
Turn on......the result was hourglass & white screen.
Removed & replaced battery....result was hourglass & white screen.
Restarted PC and connected BB...........result was hourglass & white screen & Desktop Manager does not recognise BB Connection, but Windows XP sees BB media minus folders.
Reinstalled Desktop manager....... still not recognising BB USB connection on the main screen.
Even though I have all the information saved in Outlook, I am getting desperate.
QUESTIONS:
Is there anything I can do to get my BB curve 8310 operational again?
Should I consider reloading an OS?
My phone is unlocked, so not sure if trying to download and reinstall an OS will LOCK the phone.
The unit's previous startup screen used to show a T-Mobile image.
Should I download the UK T-Mobile OS upgrade?
Blessed Regards,
2121311berryGood luck, this will work... I have done it many times.
Be patient with JLCmder. If it does not work at first, keep trying, I have seen it take 20-25 tries before it "connected".
Try it with and without the battery inserted if you must.

ATTENTION: Desktop Manager Has stopped working - SOLVED
Hey everyone!
I've finally, finally solved a
problem I've been dealing with for the past month (since updating DM to the
latest version 6.x.35)
I have a BB Bold 9700 with OS 6.0.0.600 ( by the
way the issue is not related to the OS as I had the error prior to getting this
version).
The problem is that when opening DM, everything is fine AS
LONG as I don't connect my phone. As soon as I do, DM crashes with the dreaded
"DM has stopped working" message. I tried literally everything... Browsed many
forums and found onyl questions without answers... Turns out hundreds of BB
users faced the same problem on various BB models. Out of these I can honestly
say, only 2 managed to fix the issue they were facing.
To start with and
to help people identify if my issue is similar to the one they are facing, I'll
paste the issue as shown in :
Rim.Desktop.Exception.log
14:47:54.860|FATAL|10|Exception|0|Fatal

Now my problem is
that unlike other error logs posted by users on various forums, mine didn't show
what the issue was... There is a gap between the 1st and 2nd lines in the log.
In all error logs I saw, that missing line was supposed to hold details on the
issue. In my case, the "invalid directory name".
I tried
reinstalling DM without success and after seeing that so many people on the web
had given up considering RIM was not taking any action, I joined the club and
even made the decision not to buy the 9900 once it is released.
Finally
today, for some reason while working on resolving an issue in an application I
use at work, I decided to use a tool for trying to solve the DM crash... The
tool is Process Monitor (procmon.exe) and is an AMAZING tool to see exactly what
happens when you run any process (executable or others).
Granted it's
not very accessible and users who don't work in IT might not be familiar with
many terms/features in this tool, but I honestly don't think there is any other
way to identify the problem you're facing in DM.
In my case I noticed in
the captured activity of Process Monitor that there were two "path not found"
issues just before the activity related to writing into the error log started.
The 2 paths were :
F:\BlackBerry\system\Media Sync\xxxxx.system
C:\Users\Nicolas\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Media
Sync\<mypin>.settings
First path is on the blackberry itself
and in my case I had a file named "media sync" but no folder. I renamed that
file and created the folder with that name.
For the 2nd path, which was
very strange, I could not find a file matching my BB pin... There was another
one matching my wife's pin. I just took a copy of it and renamed it to my pin
number.
After these 2 adjustments I reopened DM and I got a message
that a new device had been detected. I did a few settings and my BB connected
successfully... No crash... I tried syncing, backup and everything seems to be
working fine now.
I hope this helps others in investigating the
issues they are facing. By the way in Process Monitor be sure to first access
the Filter options and select process name as : "rim.destop.exe"
This will
monitor ONLY the activity related to DM.Hi Nicolas81...
Thanks for the detail here. just to let you know, we have logged a bug with the Desktop Manager development team to have this fixed for the next version.
Cheers

New BlackBerry Desktop Manager software for Mac
Let me know if there is a better "BlackBerry" forum to ask these questions -- but just wondering if this software will backup Address Book on my Mac to my BlackBerry without erasing everything I've already entered into the Blackberry by hand the past 2 years...
...also we have the Enterprise (corporate account) BlackBerry license (BB 8820) - if I use the newly released BlackBerry Desktop Manager software will that make a real mess of things or is it compatible.
Thanks for any comments or references to other forums or such. I come here because everything I've done with computers since 1989 is MAC - and this is a great discussion site-- and yet my latest job is using BB's... (and most others are on PC's...)
Saturday 3 October 2009As far as screwing things up, mine went fine. There were some comments about problems. If you go to crackberry. com, there is a Mac users area, under Forums/Blackberry Operating Systems and Desktop Managent.

Help Needed w/Desktop Manager 4.6 & Outlook Calendar Synch
Everything was working just fine prior to my holiday break. Came back this morning and attempted to synch my BBCurve (running 4.5.0.81) with my Desktop Manager (v4.6) and it is just skipping over the calendar sync portion. No error message. Everything else is synching just fine. Deleted and reinstalled Desktop software -- that didn't work. Disabled calendar sync and re-enabled -- that didn't work. cleared the BB Calendar of all entries and now have no calendar entries on the device. HELP!
I deleted the Intellisync folder, and reset the Desktop Manager configuration settings and I received the following Intellisync error message:
The operation terminated unexpectedly while reading from Microsoft Outlook Calendar
Then I tried to sync just from Outlook Calendar to Device -- that failed
Then I tried to sync just from Device to Outlook Calendar -- that failed as well
Then I deleted Intellisync folder again and rebooted my computer
Successfully synced from Device to Outlook
Tried to sync from Outlook to Device and it appears to be running, says one moment please and nothing happens and it returns to the Desktop Manager with no error message. Grrrrr..... -

9860 - Error 205 - Wont connect to desktop manager
Hello,
I have a 9860 that froze on me & rebooted, once it got past the black blackberry loading screen, it goes white and says Error 205 Reload Software.. Its on a constant loop of rebooting and this screen. i tried following the instructions giving on blackberry.com/205 however i cannot get my phone connected to the desktop manager. I tried taking this into Sasktel, but the guy behind the computer couldn't do anything with it, i think he was having this same problem because he told me to come home & do it instead. I have been trying to connect them for over an hour & I am getting very frustrated as nothing is working.. please help!Try using the steps located here:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Device-software-for-BlackBerry/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-S...
In your case, you likely won't be able to back up your data, but if you had BlackBerry Protect up and running, at least some of your data should be safe.
If you can't get the Loader.exe file to connect at the second screen (where your PIN should appear), remove the battery and disconnect the phone from the computer. Then reconnect your phone (without the battery). As soon as your PIN or USB:UNKNOWN pops up in the box, press next. If you miss it, don't worry, just unplug the phone and plug it back in to trigger another reboot. Once you've gotten your computer to catch your phone, you can reinsert the battery and continue with the OS reload process.
I hope this helps get you back up and running!
