Desktop Manager not detecting 8900 in Vista 64 bit

My new computer, using Vista Home Premium 64 bit, detects my phone, but DTM does not.  I have seen upwards of 30 posts describing uninstalling/installing DTM, hard booting the phone, checking USB device and driver in Device Manager, and running commands from the command prompt.  Nothing works.  Plus, my current v5.0 of DTM only has 5 applications (unlike v4.7 on my old XP Pro machine that showed 6).  I have done over 15 different variations on uninstall/install/hardboot, and all the troubleshooting suggestions.  Help!

Hello prot0fein,
So I take from your post that the device and the computer communicate but only through your VM on the computer or using mass storage mode on the host.  Am I correct about this?
Can you tell me what devices in device manager appear/disappear when you connect and disconnect your device on the affected computer?
Also, have you tried this article?

  • Desktop Manager not detecting device. Not a local administrator

    Hi there,
After a complete re-install of the software, there's no way for my desktop manager to detect my USB connected BB. The thing is that i am starting the Win session as a standard user (i have just enroled a new Windows Domain). If I start with the domain admin account, It recognizes my BB perfectly well.
How can I run my Desktop Manager and Desktop software in a non-Administrator user profile?
    Thanks a lot!
    Marcos

i am in the exact same position as you.  it is irratating and it seems this is a common problem and bb or mac are not addressing a solution.  looks like i have to get an iphone

  • Desktop Manager not detecting BB via USB

Ok I have an issue... this never happened before, but its really annoying now lol
I hope someone out there has had a similar problem... the friggen answer is probably staring me right in the face, but i'm just missing it.
Anyways only my Blackberry Desktop Software will not detect my Curve 8900 via my USB cable on WIndows Vista 64-bit.  When the cable is plugged in, the phone charges, I am able to access my memory card that I have in the phone within Windows without a problem.  Its just the Desktop Manager will not find the phone via USB.
The phone works fine connecting to Desktop Manager using Bluetooth.  I can sync up no problem there.  Its just the Desktop Manager will not find the phone via USB.
Let me stress the fact that use used to work... I don't get why this has happened.
Nothing appears in my Event Viewer, I get no error messages.  The same phone, with the same USB cable works just fine on a Windows XP computer.  Hell, it even works on the same computer, within a VMWare environment using the same USB port tried on the Windows Vista installation.
I have tried all the steps listed at this link:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02640&sliceId=SAL_Pub...
nothing seems to want to work
Does this make sense to anybody out there? lol
Let me list you my specs to make this clear
Operating System: Windows Vista Business 64-bit
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 810
    RAM: 8GB

  • Adobe creative cloud desktop is not detecting my internet connection?

adobe creative cloud desktop is not detecting my internet connection?

i connected with the adobe people through 'contact an agent'.
very helpful, they remote managed my desktop to fix the issue.
apparently something to do with permissions not activated for adobe, not sure how and why this happens though, or why it was fine earlier and suddenly stoppped.
they insisted it was to do with being on a wifi connection but that's not possible because i have my laptop right next to my desktop and that was working fine.
it took about four hours to fix though, so be patient!

  • Desktop Manager v5.0 Crashing on Vista 32-bit with BB Tour

    Hi,
When Desktop Manager stops working halfway through the synchronization process. It does not matter if the sync is autoamtic (when the device is connected) or if i start it manually.
I am not sure if it is device related (Black Berry Tour 9630) or Windows related.
This is the Event Log from Windows:
    Event ID:      1000Task Category: (100)
Description:Faulting application DesktopMgr.exe, version 5.0.0.11, time stamp 0x4a4bd539, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e03821, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000afaf8, process id 0x181c, application start time 0x01ca164d01177d90.
     Has any one encountered this?
    Any solution?
    Thank you in advance.

I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Desktop Manager is "DEAD" under XP 64-bit

    Greetings.
I am closing my other thread to open one here, because this category appears to be the more appropriate one.
I am using a brand new Perl Flip 8230 (black), along with the new software (the CD has a timestamp of 2008.12.18, well after the last update of 2008.11.17).
When I install the software, it claims to be the 4.7 version, but I am having quite a few issues with it. First of all, while all the drivers install nicely, and the phone is recognized by the connection software, I am unable to *properly* launch the Desktop Manager.
An inital launch (click on icon) of the Desktop Manager causes it to appear in the Task Manager, but it never ends up showing up on the screen. I even tried waiting for a good 1/2 hr, no dice. A second attempt at launching (without shutting down the process first) does cause it to appear, but it ends up completely unresponsive. There is still only one executable in the Task Manager (the second attempt did not launch a second copy), but what exists on the screen does not respond to any actions.
The window that appears is almost completely blank - the dark grey background-image is visible, but pretty well no other text or icons of any kind exist aside from a large "Menu" at the upper left, which is also nonresponsive. As well, trying to close the window by using the red X at the upper right is completely unsuccessful. In order to close the program, I need to go to the task manager, find the process, and "End Process Tree". Nothing else works.
Finally, the window that does appear also has a version number at the bottom in tiny text - version 4.5 of the desktop manager. HUH?!
I tried to install a downloaded version of 4.7 (in case there was a mix-up at the factory), but it claimed that a newer copy of the software was installed. Somehow "4.7" is older than "4.5". Strange, that. Selecting the "desktopmgr.exe" file to run in compatibility mode as plain old "XP" also does not work.
I tried to repair the installation, no dice. I have uninstalled the software and installed the 4.7 version straight from the Blackberry website. This version also does not function (same symptoms).
As a final note, I am running Windows XP 64-bit, with the latest service pack (SP2) and all the latest patches and updates (SP3 does not exist for XP 64-bit). I cannot install the software on a 32-bit version of XP because I do not have XP 32-bit on any of my computers. Nor do I have Vista (either 32-bit or 64-bit). I have Linux (5 computers), OpenBSD (3 computers), OpenSolaris (1 computer), Windows Server 2003 64-bit (2 servers), Windows Server 2008 64-bit (1 test machine) and several other experimental platforms (HaikuOS, BeOS, etc.), but no XP 32-bit. Sorry.
My other half's computer is an older 1Ghz PowerPC4 iMac (2nd gen iMac - "lampshade" model) running 10.4 (most recent update), but that computer is not one I want to use. I am also unsure if the Blackberry software is capable of running on PowerPC Macs, as it may be Intel-only (I haven't had a chance to check yet).
If someone has any idea why my Desktop Manager is completely unresponsive, please help.
And yes, I did reboot after installation. I seriously doubt that this is an ID-ten-T error. PEBKAC does not apply!!

Try DM 4.6 maybe it is more compatible with the 64 version.

  • Tips for getting BlackBerry Desktop Manager to detect the BlackBerry smartphone!

Here are a few tips that may help if your PC is unable to detect your BlackBerry smartphone!
    1.    Install the desktop manager software – when installing the Desktop Manager software that came with your device be sure to Not have the BlackBerry connected to the computer during this process.
    2.    Always use the USB ports from the back of the computer; never use a USB hub or a docking station USB port.
    3.    If you have another UBS cable you can try doing that to make sure it is not the cable causing the issue.
    4.    If you are using a laptop computer disable the power management settings.
        a.    For Windows-XP and Vista do the following to disable power management on the USB ports
            i.     On the computer, right-click My Computer and select Properties.
ii.    Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
iii.    Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
iv.    Right-click the USB Root Hub and select Properties.
            v.     Click the Power Management tab, and clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
            vi.    Click OK.
vii.    Repeat steps i. through vi. for each USB Root Hub listed in BlackBerry Device Manager.
    5.    If you have uninstalled and reinstalled the Desktop Manager Software trying using the following knowledge base article to do a “clean uninstall” of the software. http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
    6.    The existing USB driver installed is for an earlier model of the BlackBerry smartphone.
        a.    Manually upgrade the USB driver for the BlackBerry smartphone by completing the following steps:
            i.     Right-click My Computer and select Properties > Hardware > Device Manager.
ii.     Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, verify that the BlackBerry smartphone is found.
iii.    If an exclamation mark is displayed, right-click the BlackBerry smartphone and select Update Driver.
iv.    If the Hardware Update Wizard prompts you to use Windows Update, select No not this time and click Next.
            v.     Choose Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
vi.    Choose Don't search. I will choose the driver to install and click Next.
vii.    Click Have Disk and then choose Browse.
            viii.   Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers.
ix.    Double-click on RimUsbNT.inf, click OK, and then click Next.
    7.    If you have another PC try using that PC to see if you able to get the device connected
    8.    If you do not have another PC then try creating a new user account on the PC and then install the Desktop Manager software on that new profile.

i have looked everywhere for a solution to my problem and i simply cannot find a fix. my blackberry curve 8520 wont connect to my desktop manager. i have tried everything i could think of however nothing has proven successful.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Saw an earlier post which suggested the following:
I would try deleting the intellisync folder and then trying to sync again. This may or may not help. Below are the instructions:
Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager application.
Disconnect the BlackBerry device from the computer.
Double Click on My Computer> Local Disk (c>Documents and Settings>(username)>Application Data>Research In Motion>Blackberry>Intellisync
Note: If the Application Data folder is not present, click Tools>Folder Options at the top of the screen.
Click the View Tab, then click on Show Hidden Files and Folders.
Click Apply>Ok and continue through the remaining steps.
Delete everything within the Intellisync folder.
Launch BlackBerry Desktop Manager and attempt sync the device with the computer.
I have done this and sync seems to be working (for now anyway) - give it a go!

  • Desktop Manager doesn't run on Vista?

    Hi,
Desktop Manager can't run on my Vista. Each time I clicked it, it just flashes with a screen then closes it. Nothing is running.
    what might be the problem?
    thanks,

I too can confirm that DTM 4.7, 5.0, and now 5.0.1 all work fine on Vista64. I do not, however, use it for any synchronization...I am on BES, and all of that is OTA for me. But DTM runs fine and displays none of the oddness documented in this thread.

  • Desktop Manager Not Working

My desktop manager (DM) version 4.2 on my PC Vista is not working right.  I can open it and connect to my Sprint
8703e, but that is very little that I can do with my DM such as opening help.  The backup and restore option along with other options are no longer available in my DM.  What happened to these options?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks, John!  I updated my DM 4.2 to 4.3, but unfortunately when I did that, my OS 4.2.1.110 was automatically uninstalled so I had to install OS: 4.2.1.119.  Wow! there is a big difference between DM 4.2 and 4.3.  DM 4.3 showed updates so I clicked on that and found that there are other DM 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, and 4.7.  I assume that they are for other Blackberry devices.  John, can you explain what are the other versions for?  I am sure that others would like to know.  While I am happy with DM 4.3, but I am curious to what will happen if I download the later versions for my Sprint 8703e?
Yes, you answered my question in the other forum, but I am asking again in this forum to give you credit and users of this forum may not use the other forum.
    Again, thanks a lot.

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!
    Cheers!

  • IPod classic 160GB not detected under Windows Vista

    Hi,
I was trying to find something on that problem, but obviously all the problems with iPod and Vista are slightly different.
    Here's my story:
    Toshiba Portege R400
    Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
    iPod Classic 160GB
    iTunes 7.6.0.29
    USB 2.0
When I try to connect iPod to the computer NOTHING happens. Not that it starts searching for drivers or something like that. NOTHING.
The same iPod works fine with another computer but there's XP. I haven't tried it with different Vista so far.
USB ports are fine cause other devices like mouse or headphones work fine.
What else... I re-installed iTunes 3 times so far, didn't help. I also have the latest updates for Vista (at least Windows Update says that).
I know there are some workarounds to point different folder to look for drivers etc. But I don't even have the opportunity, cause nothing happens.
I've noticed one thing: when the iPod is plugged-in and I turn on the comp then, the iPod display flashes. It doesn't say it's connected but it reacts. And that's all. Later it comes back to normal "not working".
    Have anyone encountered similar problem?
    Regards
    Tomek

I have the same problem and I have Windows XP on 2 machines with iTunes. I plug the iPod in and it is not detected at all.
I plugged it into my girlfriends laptop (also XP) without iTunes and it is detected and works fine.
I have uninstalled iTunes and that does not help, it's like the iPod Classic 160GB is invisible on my 2 main machines...
