Desktop Manager Question

Hello, i am using a 8700g currently which is running off of v4.1.0.346 (platform 2.0.0.143), with T-Mobile.
I purchased a new Bold online with AT&T due to bad reception at my home and i really liked the Bold.
My question is this: Which version of desktop manager do i download to transfer my 275 contacts to new phone? The newest one 4.7?
If i have left something out please ask for it. I was told this was the smoothest way to perform this task.

Problem solved. i went into ATT store and they transfered all contacts over in three minutes. i did not have any luck with pocketmac and wes that due to the sim card not being activated yet? that is all i can think of as to why it was working on the 8700 side and not on the Bold side. if you have "the" answer i would like to hear it, if not no reply is necessary.
thank you

  • Desktop Manager: language input question

My blackberry is bold 9700, and Desktop manager version is 5.0.1.18
I heard that OS 5.0.0.351 (east Asia) can support Chinese character input.
So I download it from: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=1905AEDAB9BF2477EDC068A355BBA31A
and install it in PC.  then I launch "Desktop manager" -> "Application Loader" -> "Add or remove applications".   But in "Language and Input Support" , there is no "Chinese" selection.
could anyone give me suggestion how to add this function?

I came across the same issue. It took me hours this afternoon to work out the solution. Here you go:
Preparation Step (optional, only if necessary): If there is existent data, like emails, contacts, etc. and You want to keep these, You have to backup it in some way. See Your BlackBerry manual for Backup.
Uninstall any previous BlackBerry device software. Go to the Control Panel and then go to Add/Remove Programs. There You can find any previously installed device softwares. Don’t confuse the device software with the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Download the latest BlackBerry OS for Your specific BlackBerry model from this site (I chose the south east Asian version, You can choose the language on step 2 on the BlackBerry website):
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=EEFC9E10EBDC4A2333B42B2DBB8F27B6
Install the files You just downloaded
Make sure Your BlackBerry device is connected to Your desktop PC and the BlackBerry Desktop Manager is NOT running.
Go to the folder of Your BlackBerry device software loader:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
There You can find a file named VENDOR.XML. Rename it or delete it.
Open a console window and go to the BlackBerry folder by entering:
    cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\
    enter:
    Loader.exe /nojvm
This should start the installation routine.
After a short while You see a window where You can choose what to install. See picture below.
Finish Your installation. The first reboot after installing the new OS software on Your BlackBerry might take half an hour, so You better drink some tea meanwhile.
If You reach this step, You almost made it. Pinyin and other input methods! Don’t forget to install the necessary fonts as well.
    Hope this helps, Tina. ;-)

I have not yet did the clean uninstall (that yall suggested in that post) since last night. after i did all that last night,i installed the driver and berry would not show up on windows explorer,so then i tried to install desktop again and it left that message on my original post up top,so I restored my commuter and desktop was there again and working (I only really use app loader)    then I uninstaled it again.(not the clean way this time) and started installing and unistalling the drivers ,which lead to no prevail.            I would like to be able to use the app loader, and I would REALLY like for my phone to show up on my PC again so i can juggle my media around from SD card to device and all that stuff.
what would u suggest I do first sir?
I have desktop software cd's  4.3  and 4.6        I like the 4.3 version better one more fact (don't know if will help u) this is my second bold my first bold everything worked it showed up on windows explorer and desktop worked  then it broke and I got another one and I changed nothing and this one will not show up on PC and media deal on the desktop software wont work, which I don't care bout that if it whould show up on windows explorer.
At the end of this install try connecting the Blackberry to the PC without Desktop manager running.
See if the device comes up correctly. If not run Windows update with the Blackberry plugged in. The
device should be recognized and the device drivers added.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Multiple instances of the same calendar events using Oulook and Desktop Manager

    BB Curve 8310
    OS 4.5
    Desktop Manager 5.0
    Theme = Dimension Today
     Outlook 2007 “full version”
Using two POP3 email accounts. One is a personal gmail and the other is most important a business email. I do not use gmails calendar.
12 Months or so back I would sometimes get duplicate appointments in my BB calendar after a sync but Outlook showed a single appointment. I had read that it was intermittent with the theme “Today” and the advice was “do not accept appointment invites in Outlook”.
I forgot and accepted several I the past week. Now almost all my appointments are doubled up in my BB and again, my Outlook seems fine. I just noticed that I can now select which calendar to “show” in my BB.
Is this caused by getting an email invite to an appointment?
     1)   Does anyone know what is causing this?
    2)   Could you suggest a quick fix?
    3)   Could you suggest a permanent fix?
     Thanks

Thanks Bifocals ,,,,, I'm blushing just a bit. I'd put one of those red smiley faces but I would have to post another question to find out how!
BB Calendar CICAL = personal email
BB Messaging CMIME = work email
This is not correct the default services values need both reflect the main email associated account.
They need to both be your work address. This could very well explain the duplicates
Outlook has/uses only the work email address show it has to be the default one - I have long ago deleted my personal one from Outlook.
Outlooks Calendar Data File recurrence (none) 339, in Outlook 2007 I had to find them a different way but I think it's what your looking for.
    My BB shows a "default" = 217, "personal" = 185, and "work" = 309
The records in the device default calendar will not synchronize. The are in effect "orphaned"
records that at one time belonged to an email address. Usually caused by deleting the email account or losing the service books for the email account. We need to remove them
can you tell what email account they were created from? And where they would logically be moved?
A couple of notes - now that you have had me flipping through different areas I have noticed a few interesting things that maybe would be beneficial. While using Outlook 2003, I used several email addresses. Don't know if Outlook updates to 2007 or installs a new 2007 program using data from 2003. There was a time that I was sending emails in Outlook from my personal account, there was a slight hiccup and every so often it would revert back, hence I simply deleted it.
I would need to verify it, but I'm pretty sure that the email addresses would have to be installed again.
I'll split that one with you. I'll take the Blackberry knowledgebase. You take the Microsoft outlook support site
I'm now wondering if I delete all the calendars on my BB and do the one way sync? That seems simple enough.
We are gong to do just that, to repair what happened. It will not prevent another recurrence.
     You  asked for three things:
You wanted a a reason this happened, I think we found it in the default services setup.
You wanted a quick fix, It will be done in with an  hour's work.
You also wanted a permanent fix,  Want to go for all three?
If you have multiple calendars you will have problems. It's just the nature of the beast.
It's not an "if " but just a matter of "when" deal!
Personally I can't find any logic in the concept of multiple calendars.
People explain they use one for work appointments and one for personal appointments.
I always want to ask why they don't use two watches one for personal and one for work?
I do see the need for separating personal and work email accounts.
Here is I think the best of both worlds answer.
Leave your work email configured and use the work calendar as you would normally.
For your personal email install the Gmail for mobile application. You have access to your
personal and work emails, they are kept separate due to the nature of the Gmail app.
Here is the the cherry on the top. The Gmail app doesn't install a calendar.
So two email addresses one calendar, ain't life grand!
So here is the plan Stan, let me know what you think.
    1) On the Blackberry options advanced options, default services. Match both options to your work email.
    2) Decide what needs to happen with the 217 device default "orphans".
Also 185 personal records. Are they worth keeping, can they be sent to the work calendar, do they need to be on Outlook.
    3) Read this article you can see your options and  help you make the best decision.
KB19240 How to merge multiple calendars into one calendar on the BlackBerry smartphone
Read about the Gmail for mobile app see if you think it will work for you: Gmail mobile app
If you don't like it or don't think it's a good fit just let me know and we can go a different way.
Let me know what you want to do,

  • Remote Desktop Management service not starting. service-specific error: %%2284126209 - Event ID: 7024

    Hi Forum members,
We have a client that has intermittent issues with RDS on a 2012 R2 server.
As an overview of the environment, the client has a single VMWare host support 2 x Windows 2012 R2 VMs one is the File/Print/Email server and the 2nd is the RDS server used to allow the client to run MYOB Enterprise. Both servers have the AD DS role and
    DNS roles amongst others.
The 1st issue is that the RD Connection Broker shows the error: "The server pool does not match the RD Connection Brokers that are in it. and then "1. Cannot connect to any of the specified RD Connection Broker servers".
The above issue seems to be caused by the RDMS service not starting. When you attempt to start it, the service stops and the error in the title is logged in the "System" event log. Full transcript below:

I have been attempting to resolve these errors for some time, without success. I have read the many KBs and forum entries related to the above and applied a number of the suggested fixes, including the one which suggests to add the NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES
to the "Logon as a Service" in the "User Rights Assignment" of the "Default Domain Policy" which is linked to the domain level, that both servers are objects of.
My question to the forum is, can anyone come up with a solution to resolve the above issues and all the RDMS service to start which will then hopefully resolve the broker error?
    Regards,
    David West.

    Hi David,
If virtual machines on the server are Windows Server 2012, then it is not supported to install Remote Desktop Connection Broker on a Domain Controller.
    More information for you:
Remote Desktop Services role cannot co-exist with AD DS role on Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2799605/de
Guidelines for installing the Remote Desktop Session Host role service on a computer running Windows Server 2012 without the Remote Desktop Connection Broker role service
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839
If the VMs are Windows Server 2012 R2, I suggest you install RDS on a separate machine to see if the issue persists.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

  • Problems Re-installing Desktop Manager

New to the board here and have a question maybe someone can shed some light on for me.
I'm running Vista Home Premium on my PC.  I had problems with the BB Desktop Manager software so I decided to uninstall if and do a fresh install.  Somehow, there were two identical versions installed on my laptop, and I could not uninstall either one.  I had to download Windows Install Cleanup to delete the first copy.  The second copy did not show up in my programs list on the Control Panel, but there was still a shortcut on my desktop.  Clicking the desktop icon opened the second copy of BBDM!  I found it installed under a folder other than Programs.  I had to drag it to the recycle bin to get rid of it, as all un-instraller software was unable to find it.
Now...I went to download and install BBDM again and it will not install!  I have tried the CD and web download versions.  No matter what I do, I get the following message on the BB InstallShield Wizard shortly after the install process begins:
    InstallShield Wizard Completed
The wizard was interrupted before BlackBrry Desktop Software could be completely installed.  Your system has not been modified.  To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.  Click finish to exit the wizard.
I have tried numerous times to get the software to install, but no go.  Any ideas on how to get the install to work?  I appreciate any help you can give me.

  • Desktop Manager won't do two-way sync

    Hi,
Desktop Manager (2.2.1 build 7) seems to have gotten into a mode where it won't do complete syncs with my Curve 8100.  I'm only want to sync iCal and Address Book (Mac OSX 10.6.8), but DM seem to be in a write-only mode.   New events on my laptop get transferred to the Curve, but no calendar event I put on the Curve get pulled to the laptop.  Moreover, DM seems to push to the Curve events that I have already delete on my laptop.  For example, if I accidently create a "New Event" in iCal and delete it immeidately, it turns up on the Curve as "New Event" the next time I sync.
I suspect I've set some flag incorrectly, but I can't find anything.  I've "forgotten" the Curve in DM several times, deleted all its data, and reinstall DM, but nothing seems to help.
    Any thought?
    Thanks.

    Hey Wharton,
I certainly feel your pain on this, I've got the 9900 Bold and it won't do anything on the desktop software apart from back it up, annoyed doesn't even cut the surface of the frustration I've had with this after the hours I've spent searching the forums looking for an answer to this, mine won't sync, update, or do anything really. I'm really getting fed up with what seems RIM's very passive attitude towards this situation whilst everyone on the Windows platform seems to be getting on fine with it, I very much doubt they'll read this or even care if they did to be honest because I've had problems since I got my phone and it's got worse everytime they've released an update. I'm now at a point where I can't even look up music on my phone by artist or genre because it tells me there's no media available but yet when I go into all songs they're all there and play fine. Seriously RIM, sort this **bleep** out, it's getting beyond a joke, fed up with having a £500 smartphone that I can't update or sync with my Mac. Sorry this doesn't answer your question Wharton but I stay hopeful that RIM will sort this issue out or someone has a suggestion that helps us!

  • Uncaught error java nullpoint exception, email icons disappeared, application loader unable to back up data, desktop manager unable to connect

    Model:  Curve 8900
    Provider: At&t
    Platform: 4.2.0.108
I'm ready to throw this phone in the blender.... if I could only back up my data first. A couple of months ago the What's App application required an update. I updated it and ever since my phone has steadily had more and more issues. First, I kept getting this uncaught error message, shortly thereafter the 2 email accounts (both gmail) that I have linked to the account disappeared. The message icon shows that I have messages, but icons not there (I have tried the show all option). At one point the message icon started exponentially adding the number of messages until it got up to over 86,000. When I reboot the phone it goes back down and then steadily increases again... usually though it's more to 400 - 500 rather then tens of thousands. I have been trying to install updates and do a wipe of the BB so that I can start from scratch, unfortunately the application loader is unable to back up data. The desktop manager is unable to connect to the blackberry and indicates that an upgrade is required. I have tried doing the upgrade both directly from the phone and connected to the desktop manager, but nothing seems to work. If I try to upgrade the software directly from the BB, I get to the start download button and when I click, nothing happens. I have removed all applications except bberry app world and one game that I play, Pixelated Plus. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Do you want to save the messages?
If not (and I think they are the problem) open the Desktop Software > Device > Delete Data and click the "select Data" option. Select the Messages to remove. Complete the prompts and finish.
Then, return to backup the entire device, and see if that is possible to complete this time with no messages.
Now, once the back up is done and you have your data, you can disconnect the device.
Now, use BBSAK to wipe the device and subsequently load the new operating system.
**If you cannot complete the backup again above, you might have to do without it, OR you can use the Desktop Software to sync your Address book, calendar, memos and tasks to Outlook. OR, you can easily install and use BlackBerry Protect to backup your device over the air to RIM servers, then once wiped and the new OS reloaded, you can use Protect to restore the data back to the 8900. << This you should do regardless.
Good luck, post back here as you have questions.

  • Please help me: Failed 8310 OS update to OS 4.5 via Desktop Manager

    Hello BB Community,
As of this morning, I can't use my Blackberry curve 8310......for anything.
My problems started just as I was about to do a routine USB cable sync between my BB and Outlook.
I was informed by Desktop Manager v 4.7 that OS 4.5 is available.
I delayed the sync, and start the update process.
Everything............. except my BB restart and data reload.......... completed flawlessly.
Then a message says the update has failed, & the entire thing halts.
So, I wait a while then pull the USB cable & turn off the BB.
Turn on......the result was hourglass & white screen.
Removed & replaced battery....result was hourglass & white screen.
Restarted PC and connected BB...........result was hourglass & white screen & Desktop Manager does not recognise BB Connection, but Windows XP sees BB media minus folders.
Reinstalled Desktop manager....... still not recognising BB USB connection on the main screen.
Even though I have all the information saved in Outlook, I am getting desperate.
    QUESTIONS:
Is there anything I can do to get my BB curve 8310 operational again?
Should I consider reloading an OS?
My phone is unlocked, so not sure if trying to download and reinstall an OS will LOCK the phone.
The unit's previous startup screen used to show a T-Mobile image.
Should I download the UK T-Mobile OS upgrade?
    Blessed Regards,
    2121311berry

Good luck, this will work... I have done it many times.
Be patient with JLCmder. If it does not work at first, keep trying, I have seen it take 20-25 tries before it "connected".
Try it with and without the battery inserted if you must.

  • BlackBerry Desktop Manager on Mac OS 10.4.11

    Hi all,
I'm installing BlackBerry Desktop Manager for my MacBook (OS 10.4.11). However, the software requires at least 10.5.5 and I tried installing it with no success. It says it "requires OS 10.5". Does it mean I have to install 10.5.1 first and then install 10.5.5?
Basically, my question is we CANNOT skip version and install 10.5.8 (which is the latest) on, say, my 10.4.11?

Hello nrugkhapan, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Does it mean I have to install 10.5.1 first and then install 10.5.5?
That means you must purchase & install Leopard/10.5.x, which is freely upgradable to as far as 10.5.8, but you'll likely have to call Apple to get a cpy, since they no longer list it for sale on their site.

  • Windows XP SP 3 - Blackberry Desktop Manager 6.0.2 Will Not Open

When I try to start the desktop manager software I immediately get the windows message: "BlackBerry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  I've consulted many resources and tried several fixes, including taking ownership of the registry, renaming one of the library files, and downloading a .NET patch, so far no luck.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Got it to work.
    Here is what I did:
I took the advice to call Verizon.  Verizon obviously couldn't help, because it is a software issue, not a phone related issue.  After getting passed around to two Verizon Tech Support people, the last one connected me to RIM tech support and handed me off.  The first person at RIM asked VERY basic questions and didn't know what to do with this issue, so they connected me to the next level up.  The RIM tech support had me uninstall/reinstall DTM 6.0.2 and rerun, I think he was trying to get a recent event logged that would detail the problem.  Incidently, he asked about any security programs that might be running in the back ground and suggested shutting everything off.  After the uninstall/reinstall, the program still crashed before it started up and we got the familiar windows "Blackberry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close...".
At this point we went to the system log by going to "Run" in the start menu and typing %temp%.  There are two logs I emailed blackberry Tech Support: BB_Desktop and BB_DM.  We also looked at the event viewer in computer management by right clicking My Computer, selecting "manage", expanding "event viewer", selecting "application".  We looked at the errors associated with the software crashing.
    Here is what we learned:
It wasn't a blackberry software issue, but a microsoft .NET framework issue (which I had read about and thought I tried an update in some other threads about this issue, but clearly didn't carry the ball far enough).
At this point, blackberry Tech Support told me to contact microsoft to help fix the problem.
Rather than spending another 3 hours on the phone, I decided to try to repair/update the .NET framework on my own.  After several downloads and updates, the blackberry software now works like it should.
These are the resources I used, in order.
    1. Download the "Full Redistributable Package" of .NET Framework 3.5 full package near the bottom of the page of http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6&dis...
    2.  Uninstall using Add/Remove Programs all previous Microsoft .NET Framework programs (there were 3)
    3.  Install the "Full Redistributable Packge downloaded in #1 above.
    4.  Downloaded and Installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer) from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=9cfb2d51-5ff4-4491-b0e5-b...
    5.  Navigated to Microsoft Update at http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us and selected Express update
Several of these steps required a reboot, etc.  I just followed all of the instructions.  Of course I kept checking and hoping the blackberry desktop software would work.  It finally did after #5 above--the express update found I needed to install some high-prioirity update that I can only assume was a patch or something to the.NET framework.
In any event, the whole thing took about 45 minutes and now the desktop software is functioning.
To any real computer people who may evaluate all of these steps, I'm sure I have some redundancies, but whether or not this was the most eloquent way to solve the problem, it got me to the finish line.
If your issue is a .NET framework issue, this could help solve your issue.
    Good luck

  • ATTENTION: Desktop Manager Has stopped working - SOLVED

    Hey everyone!
    I've finally, finally solved a
problem I've been dealing with for the past month (since updating DM to the
    latest version 6.x.35)
    I have a BB Bold 9700 with OS 6.0.0.600 ( by the
way the issue is not related to the OS as I had the error prior to getting this
    version).
The problem is that when opening DM, everything is fine AS
LONG as I don't connect my phone. As soon as I do, DM crashes with the dreaded
"DM has stopped working" message. I tried literally everything... Browsed many
forums and found onyl questions without answers... Turns out hundreds of BB
users faced the same problem on various BB models. Out of these I can honestly
say, only 2 managed to fix the issue they were facing.
    To start with and
to help people identify if my issue is similar to the one they are facing, I'll
paste the issue as shown in :
    Rim.Desktop.Exception.log

    at
    System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionCon text executionContext,
    ContextCallback callback, Object state)
    at
    System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()
    Now my problem is
that unlike other error logs posted by users on various forums, mine didn't show
what the issue was... There is a gap between the 1st and 2nd lines in the log.
In all error logs I saw, that missing line was supposed to hold details on the
issue. In my case, the "invalid directory name".
    I tried
reinstalling DM without success and after seeing that so many people on the web
had given up considering RIM was not taking any action, I joined the club and
even made the decision not to buy the 9900 once it is released.
    Finally
today, for some reason while working on resolving an issue in an application I
use at work, I decided to use a tool for trying to solve the DM crash... The
tool is Process Monitor (procmon.exe) and is an AMAZING tool to see exactly what
happens when you run any process (executable or others).
    Granted it's
not very accessible and users who don't work in IT might not be familiar with
many terms/features in this tool, but I honestly don't think there is any other
way to identify the problem you're facing in DM.
In my case I noticed in
the captured activity of Process Monitor that there were two "path not found"
issues just before the activity related to writing into the error log started.
    The 2 paths were :
    F:\BlackBerry\system\Media Sync\xxxxx.system
    C:\Users\Nicolas\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Media
    Sync\<mypin>.settings
First path is on the blackberry itself
and in my case I had a file named "media sync" but no folder. I renamed that
file and created the folder with that name.
For the 2nd path, which was
very strange, I could not find a file matching my BB pin... There was another
one matching my wife's pin. I just took a copy of it and renamed it to my pin
    number.
After these 2 adjustments I reopened DM and I got a message
that a new device had been detected. I did a few settings and my BB connected
successfully... No crash... I tried syncing, backup and everything seems to be
    working fine now.
I hope this helps others in investigating the
issues they are facing. By the way in Process Monitor be sure to first access
the Filter options and select process name as : "rim.destop.exe"
    This will
monitor ONLY the activity related to DM.

    Hi Nicolas81...
Thanks for the detail here.  just to let you know, we have logged a bug with the Desktop Manager development team to have this fixed for the next version.
    Cheers

  • New BlackBerry Desktop Manager software for Mac

Let me know if there is a better "BlackBerry" forum to ask these questions -- but just wondering if this software will backup Address Book on my Mac to my BlackBerry without erasing everything I've already entered into the Blackberry by hand the past 2 years...
...also we have the Enterprise (corporate account) BlackBerry license (BB 8820) - if I use the newly released BlackBerry Desktop Manager software will that make a real mess of things or is it compatible.
Thanks for any comments or references to other forums or such. I come here because everything I've done with computers since 1989 is MAC - and this is a great discussion site-- and yet my latest job is using BB's... (and most others are on PC's...)
    Saturday 3 October 2009

As far as screwing things up, mine went fine. There were some comments about problems. If you go to crackberry. com, there is a Mac users area, under Forums/Blackberry Operating Systems and Desktop Managent.

  • Setting BB Pearl Flip clock to network? Desktop Manager asks for an update to languages.

The Flip looks appears to require manual time adjustment rather than pulling the date and time information from the local network, either by setting it through options on the clock function, or through the Options - Date & Time menu.
My Desktop Manager keeps asking, when launched, an update to the same Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish languages.  How do I turn it off?

I'll try to answer to some of your questions.
The Media Card is according to the OS verison on the BlackBerry. The model doesn't really matter.
Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.4.xxx".
    Maximum capacities:
BlackBerry Device Software Media Card Size Limit
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 -- Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 -- Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 -- Up to 4 GB

  • Desktop Manager - Reconcile Messages Grayed out....

Hi...I'm not able to configure my messages in the Synchronize tab because it is grayed out...any ideas what to do?  We've uninstalled and reinstalled the software, upgraded to 4.3 and its still grayed out...why? how can i fix this?  My previous blackberry had this function enabled. thanks

    Hi XENA0966,
We apologize that you're having continued difficulty finding a resolution to your problem. If you're willing to provide us with some additional information, we are collectively committed to do our very best to determine the root cause of this issue for you.
I'd like to step backward and confirm the options that you chose when you installed the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Is it correct to state that you chose to install as a user of 'BlackBerry Internet Service'? Are you familiar with how you installed the BlackBerry Desktop Manager for your previous BlackBerry? Perhaps we can harvest some relevant information by investigating the installation of the software itself, as well as the options that were configured.
Can you also confirm that with the BlackBerry Desktop Manager opened to the default screen, you see 'Server Status: Online' in the bottom left-hand corner? Additionally, are you able to access other resources on your network when you are experiencing this problem? Do you know if you're working offline when this occurs? This question may be important because the option for reconciling messages (discounting certain configuration options chosen during the installation of BlackBerry Desktop Manager) requires connectivity to your mail system. If no such connectivity is available, the software disables the ability to configure that option.
It seems as though there is one problem here but that it may be exposing itself through multiple symptoms. If you're a BlackBerry Internet Service user, there are certain things that you should be able to do from the BlackBerry (such as enabling message reconciliation) and things that you will not be able to do. There are also things that you will be able to do in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and things that you will not be able to do, depending on this. The software on the desktop and on the device are designed to behave in a manner that suits the user type and back-end mail system. If we can clear some of the symptoms, through confirming your installation behavior and the settings on your BlackBerry, I expect that we can isolate the true problem.
    We look forward helping you.
