Desktop Manager Seeing Phone

Hi,
I just bought an 8320 T-Mobile phone on ebay. I don't have a data plan and hope not to need one. My SIM card works and I'm on WiFi.
I downloaded the desktop manager software to my laptop. But, when I plug my phone into my laptop with the USB, the software doesn't see my phone. I tried "Connection Options" but can't see anything to do that helps. I'd really like to sync my Outlook calendar and contacts to the phone. I know I won't be able to use email and that's fine.
The ebay seller gave me the phone's PIN.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Here is the list of troubleshooting KB's...hopefully something will be useful:
KB02640 Troubleshooting USB connections
KB15486 Top 10 BlackBerry smartphone and BlackBerry Desktop Manager troubleshooting tips
KB11439 BlackBerry Desktop Software does not detect the BlackBerry smartphone when it is connected
KB00019 No PIN displayed in BlackBerry Desktop Redirector
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these.
Hopefully something there is helpful!
BTW -- when you say the seller gave you their PIN, do you mean to say that they gave you the device password? PIN, in BB-land, is a hardware-level identification...which can be seen on any BB in Options > Status. The device password, on the other hand, is how you protect your personal information from being accessed should your BB be stolen or lost.
Cheers!

  • Desktop Manager Says Phone Needs Update

I have Desktop Manager 5.0.1 installed on a Windows 7 x64 system.  The phone is plugged in and it says it needs a core update run on the phone.  I am running 5.0.0.328 on Verizon.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

lol, love that **bleep**. Is that like an alien? j/k
Verizon could be pusing an update, I doubt it, yet.
If you have upgraded the BBMessenger to v5, it likely sees the BBM 4.7 as being the update or something, which has been a glitch for some users. If that is the case, you could simply hit cancel and ignore it.
Otherwise, run the update and see what you get?

  • Desktop manager and Phone will not connect

Why will my phone not connect to my desktop manager? Please help me?

Are you still experiencing this issue? Have you tried using another USB port or USB cable to connect? If so, try uninstalling and reinstalling Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac. http://bbry.lv/cjrGPM
Once your BlackBerry connects with the Desktop Manager, you may want to do a clean application load to resolve the issues your device is having. http://bbry.lv/aKuQoN

  • Software update via desktop manager failed, phone will not boot

I used the Desktop Software (I had to update this first to version 6.00.43; anyway, that's what the Rim.Desktop.exe file properties in Windows Explorer says it is) to update my Curve 8900 's software. It went through the first two steps of downloading and installing; then just sat there stuck on the reboot step -- no kind of error message, just stuck, with phone displaying the AT&T sign on screen for probably a good chunk of lat night (started doing this a little before bed) and all through the day today. Only removing the battery will shut off the phone; once restarted, the white progress bar fills up over a number of minutes and goes back to the AT& screen again; hangup button will not shut the phone down. If I reconnect the USB and the Desktop Software is still running, status message continues to say "disconnected"; if I first connect the USB and then start the software, get a "connecting..." status message but it never connects. Windows 7 "Safely Remove Hardware" list does not display it.
    Any way to fix this?
    Bard55

    Close Desktop Manager.
    Then do this:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_wipe_the_BlackBerry_using_Jl_Cmder%3F
Then follow the instructions exactly in the first post of this thread to install the OS listed there.:
    http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-8900-series-discussion-javelin/227412-os-8900-v5-0-0-1168-5-...
Once you have that done, then you can use Desktop manager to restore the backup file that the original update should have made.

  • Problem with desktop manager/phone.

when i connect my blackberry curve 9360 to desktop manager, my phone screen has a picture with the phone and computer pointing each other with the arrows to show it is connected/connecting. when i start to back up my phone, these arrows go away. my phone is just 6 months old and works perfectly fine.

    Try these steps:
    1. Uninstall Blackberry Desktop with Media Manager
    2. Restart computer
    3. Install Blackberry Desktop with Media Manager
If your version won't work you may try different versions of "Blackbery Desktop With Media Manager".
You may download these versions here

  • Is it possible to see my phone numbers and addresses that I backed up in the blackberry desktop manager

I know it may be a silly question -- but I finally was able to download the blackberry desktop manager and then back up all the data from my blackberry to my computer via the desktop manager.  For my peace of mind, I would like to see some of this data (addresses and phone numbers) just to insure that I did the back up correctly.  Is this possible?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
The file that contains the backup data is designed as proprietery to the Backup/Restore process. It is not designed to be read independently. There are some third party readers, can't recall the names (Amber-something-or-other?), but if you search for an application that can read an IPD file, you might find what you are looking for.
    Good luck!

  • Desktop manager update and two phones

The wife and I both have8320 Curves. I synced my phone to the desktop manager last year she did not. Today I downloaded an upgrade for the phone software and the desktop manager. Now my phone has the new software and the manager has a new look but how do I get the new version of desktop manger to look and my wife’s phone? To install the upgrade to the phone it has to go through desktop manager but it will only see my phone. How can I change the pin# to the one for her phone?
    Anyone?
    Thanks for any help
     Gary

If all you're looking to do is to upgrade your wife's OS, you can run the Loader application by itself.
Click Start --> Run, and enter this (WITH QUOTES):
    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Loader.exe"
If you've installed Desktop Manager 4.7 you shouldn't even need to install the OS for the device.  The latest version (and possibly 4.6) will retrieve a list of carriers, the devices they support, and the latest OS available from them automatically, and if Loader determines that a newer version is available it will automatically download it and install it.
If you're not using Desktop Manager 4.7 or 4.6, you'll need to either upgrade DM or download and install the OS from the carrier.

  • Desktop Manager just refuses to see 8820.

Talk about frustration.  I never had any issues with my Treo 650 regarding this.  But what bothers me the most, is my BB 8820 used to work fine.  I don't know what changed.
Here is my log file from reading the forums, and the things I've tried:
I have a Blackberry 8820.  I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit edition.  I have turned the UAC in Vista OFF because it drives me crazy.
I cannot get the Desktop Manager to see my BB.
The Blackberry shows up in the Device Manager, so no issues there.  It is recognized and installs just fine.
The Desktop software installs just fine.  I am running version 4.7.  I ran the installation using "Run as Admin".  I did not install Media version.
I had to manually uninstall the software initially, by deleting the Research In Motion folder, and then using Regedit to delete all "blackberry" and "Research In Motion" entries.  Once I did all this, the software no longer showed up in "Programs and Features".
I reinstalled a fresh copy of 4.7.  It would not see my BB.  I rebooted, and it still does not see my BB.
I have tried the method of removing the battery and replacing it and it does not see my BB.
I have tried different USB cables to no avail.
Since I am on a laptop, I have made sure that all USB ROOT Hub Properties are not set to "turn off this device to save power".
I had my Blackberry working on this laptop before.
After all this, I tried to uninstall my 4.7 Desktop Manager, and I get the error "Error 2738.Could not access VBScript run time for custom action."  Ok, so I Googled this, and I had to go to my Windows\system32 folder using command prompt and type regsvr32 vbscript.dll to register that.  This fixed the problem and I was able to uninstall the software.
I always installed the desktop manager without the Blackberry being connected to the computer.
I disabled any Anti Virus software, just in case.  I removed the SD card from the phone, just in case.
Something weird goes on.  Each time I run the Desktop Manager, if I click on OPTIONS and then set connection type to USB, it's starts running an install.  It does this like 3 to 4 times.  Well.... finally my BlackBerry came up.  Then I went to option to change something else, and that stupid installation window popped up AGAIN.  Now it doesn't see my BB.
I decided to bag all this and figured I would try the BlueTooth.  I can pair the device with absolutely NO problem to my laptop.  My laptop finds the phone quickly and works just fine.  Then when I try to set the Desktop Manager to use Bluetooth, it won't just use what has connected to the laptop, it has to go out and search for a bluetooth device.  It never finds my phone and NEVER quits searching.
UPDATE:  Ok, so I uninstalled the 3rd party bluetooth drivers and I am only running the Microsoft Vista plain vanilla drivers.  Didn't make a different though, as the bluetooth STILL doesn't see my phone.  Yet my laptop see's and pairs with the phone via bluetooth just fine.
UPDATE #2: Ok, so I created a new Windows Login.  I had installed the blackberry Desktop Manager for ALL users.  I created a TEST login account for windows.  So, once logged into this new account, it see's the BlackBerry just fine with the USB cable.  The BlueTooth still doesn't work, but it see's the Blackberry right away.  Whereas when I log into my regular account, I keep getting this annoying installation windows that says "Please wait while Windows configures Blackberry Desktop Software".
Please, if you see anything that I overlooked, let me know.
    Thanks!

Have you turned off the PC, and rebooted .
Same for the BlackBerry, except With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • PC Recognizes phone but Desktop Manager shows disconnected

New laptop running Windows 7 64-bit.  Version 6.x of BB Desktop Manager loaded.  First time phone is plugged in, it is recognized and Sync for Calendar and Contacts configured and executed successfully.  After that, any time the phone is connected to PC, it correctly maps drive to device and I can see the files on the phone from the PC, but Desktop Manager shows disconnected.  It shows phone, model, pin, and all the right information, but still shows Disconnected.  Sound familiar to anyone?  Any help?

  • Desktop Manager Doesn't Recognize My Phone

I've recently upgraded my computer from Windows XP to Windows 7, and on my original XP machine, I had DTM installed and it worked just fine with my Bold 9000. On my new Windows 7 machine, I've downloaded Desktop Manager 6.0, installed it, but when I plug in my phone into the computer, the Summary page in DTM still says "Connect your BlackBerry device". I know my computer recognizes my BB, because I can see it listed as 2 drives under My Computer (BB and my removable memory card). How can I get DTM to recognize my phone?

Hi There, I have a similar problem with my 9105. DM does not see my device. I have tried so many things that I am reaching the point where I go back to Windows Mobile. To make matters worse I paid for the Documents To Go upgrade so that I could sync my docs but that to can not see the device either. On the PC (XP) under device manager it shows as connected. And also as further below. Desperate

  • 8310 desktop manager won't see photos in mass storage mode to transfer to computer

Redownloaded desktop manager today. Wasn't working. Download complete - no roxio on my computer software - should it show up separately? Will sync. Tells me no photos to download. Mass storage mode is on. What am I doing wrong? Thanks - Launa

    Dear Launa
Do these things for your problem solution
AS you said re downloading completed an no roxio i dam shore that you donwload desktop manager 5.0 or 5.1 that will never work. Just follow the tips below
    1.     download latest software from the BB web site its free. the latest version is 6.1
    2.     Install and connect your device with PC using USB or Bluetooth. I preffer Cable (USB)
    3.     Run it go to My Videos, My Pictures which are appeared on the left hand side pan of the software screen.
    4.     Sync what ever you want.
If that does not work then do these
    1.     If your data is on the memory card (Mostly the pictures and videos by default on the memory card but some time it is by default the phone memeory. If on the memory card then
    2.     unplug you BB ad plug your BB again this time when you connect with the pc a message will be displayed on your BB screen which ask you to start Mass storage or not.
    3.    Start Mass storage and copy paste the pictures you want from BB to PC or PC to BB
    4.    For memory card instead of pluging the cable you can use a Memory Card Reader. But Mass Storage will be prefferd coz in that way you are able to browse both memories PHONE and CARD but in memory card case you just able to view card details not phone.
    5.   Some time the folders are hidden in your PC and on the card for that Unhide all by going
if wndows 7 or vista then
My COmputer - > Organize  -> Organize Folder and Stettings -> Scroll down and locate folder view and click the radio Show HIdden files and Folders. After that just beneth the Show Hidden Files and Folder Radio three options are checked "Hide Extentions for known file type and Hide protected operaing system files (recomended), just uncheck all of these and click ok it will prompt and message when unchecking just do it. and you see all the hidden files on the card. YOu can do it b going on Control Panel
    For XP Users
Go to My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Option and the options are same as above stated  and same here also you can do it by control pannel
Just let me know if this will solve your problem

  • Blackberry Password works for phone but not for Desktop Manager

    Hi guys,
I´m a first time user of BB and very pleased with the purchase. I recently setup a password to protect my phone. When it locks I simply type the password and it unlocks. To my surprise when I tryed to sync with the Desktop Manager it asks for the password but when I type it on my laptop it doesn´t recognize it and starts the 1/10, 2/10 tryes screen. The only solution was to remove the password from the device.
    Where am I going wrong?
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanx
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Please be warned that ten incorrect attempts of the password will wipe your device--be careful.
You probably have a common user problem where you "think" you have an uppercase character or number in the password, and you really don't, becase your password is masked by asterisks when you first entered it, and you have continued to enter the password ON your device as you think it is.
Does that make sense? This is a common mistake.

  • Updating Phone without using Desktop Manager

    Hi,
I was wondering is there anyway that I could update my blackberry without having to use the desktop manager as i don't actually have it installed and have never used it for my phone because i don't run windows or mac.
