Desktop Manager Won't Connect -- USB unrecognized??

I have 2 new BB Curve 8330's.  I have loaded the BB Desktop Manager software onto my Acer laptop (Vista) and pc (Windows XP).  The software version is 4.5 and came with each phone.
The software will recognize and connect with only 1 of the 2 phones.  I've tried it on each computer with indiviudal software (no shared programs even though I checked the box during installation to allow anyone to use it) with the same results.
Using the provided USB cables, I plug in phone #1, it connects just fine and I can use the software with no problems.  However, when I connect phone #2, I does not recognize it at all.  One the laptop, I got a prompt that reads"  USB Device Not Recognized - One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."   On the pc, there is no prompt at all.  This does not happen when connecting phone #1 with the same USB cable on either computer.
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software and battery in addition to use the USB cable from phone #1.
HELP!!!!!

Very strange...I just upgraded to Windows 7 and I can not get they synchronization working.  I have a Curve 8900 and it worked fine while running Vista on the same laptop.
Now that I'm running Windows 7 I can not get the USB or Bluetooth to synchronize or backup.  You do see that the device gets connected and it looks like it begins to synchronize and just stops.  While in Desktop Manager none of the options are accessible.  The buttons are there but nothing happens when you click them.
I have uninstaller Desktop Manager and re-installed several times but still nothing.  I have also corrected the Bluetooth issues and it will not synch there as well.
Any suggestions????/
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
For the backup, where does it stop? I know that mine takes quite a long time on one area (something to do with BBM...can't recall specifically), but if I just wait long enough, it eventually completes. Not sure why it takes so long there, but it does.
Best!

  • Being asked to Reload Software but desktop manager won't connect

I have a curve 8900 and I run the BB destkop manager on a Mac probook. I plugged the curve into my mac this morning via usb and manager told me that for some reason there was an issue with missing software on the curve and asked me to download and reload software - I did this but after a short while of downloading it stopped and said it was no longer connected to the curve , even though it was still plugged in via usb.
In addition, the curve is displaying a white screen and the msg Reload software 507.
I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the phone to the Mac but all it ever says is that it is waiting for device to start and it will not recognise it or connect to it so I can't even reinstall the software or reinstall via a back up. I reinstalled BB Desktop manager and  I've tried moving the battery and sim on the phone but this also makes no difference.
    HELP!!

507 just means no OS.  You're going to need to find a PC and reload the OS.  Use the link below and follow the instructions in the first post of this thread:

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    I suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
    Good luck!

  • Desktop Manager won't sync Outlook

Just got a new Bold and now Desktop manager won't configiure to sync with Outlook.  It gives me a "Not able to connect to internet" error.  Removing firewalls and Norton didn't help.
Has anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks

    Hi MarcBrittain,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
This article should provide more information on this issue. http://bbry.lv/mfgghx
There are some additional steps in it to try to diagnose the issue. If none of the steps in the article resolve the issue, you may want to try disabling your startup items in the System Configuration Utility and rebooting before trying again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Desktop Manager does not recognize USB Connection

I have installed the Desktop Manager for MAC (v1.0.2) on my MacBook Pro Snow Leopard10.6.3.
When I connect my Storm 9520 the Mac OS recognizes the media storage drives in the 'Finder'.  I can copy files to and from the device media using 'Finder' but the Desktop Manager does not recognize that the device is plugged into the USB (yes I have tried both USB connectors).
    file:///Users/Nigel/Desktop/WaitingForUSB.jpg

I have an 8310, Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6 and the BB desktop v 1.0.2 build 8.  It recently stopped recognizing the USB connection as well.  I was able to sync my BB with the MAC but can no longer do so.  The MAC mounts the BB and I can access the SD card.  What gives here?

  • Sync on desktop manager won't start with new 9700

I am attaching my 9700, with a USB cable, to my laptop. The Desktop Manager software opens but it will not start the sync'ing process with my device.
    - the little "check" box - "automatically synchronize device and computer when USB connected" is switched on
    - I am using the latest version of Desktop Manager
    - the "Synchronize" tab is in grey. It's grey'ed out. When my curser hovers over "Synchronize" it won't light up, as in, it won't let me press the Synchronize button to initiate the process.
    - my 9700 is brand new. I had no synchronizing problems with my previous model, the Curve.
    - my laptop is a great device, I don't currently, nor haven't had, any issues with it in the past - DELL D420 Latitude. I seem to have all the drivers I need
    - I am running Windows XP
    - I am not linking to a server at work. My Blackberry is set is purely a directly link from the 9700 device, to my computer, and syncs with the calendar, address book and tasks list (MS Outlook 2003 from MS Office)
    - my new 9700 - I bought it 2weeks ago. It did sync in the beginning. About three times successfully. But not now obviously.
    - on my Windows bar at the bottom of my computer screen it pops up "new hardware added" and the 9700 device is no longer described by its identity number (PIN ref?), it says "new hardware added, 'memory device'"
    - I've searched through the Blackberry help pages and so far, all I can come up with is that my computer can't seem to recognise now, for some unknown reason, that it is connected to my 9700. Blackberry help suggested I go to the "pairing" pages of the Help guide, but I thought "pairing" was only a subject that involves Bluetooth activities. Not a USB cable connection.
    Anyone got any ideas?

    Hey Graeme0309,
If you disconnect the BlackBerry from your computer and open Desktop Manager, are you able to open Synchronize?
What version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager are you using?

OH! So this isn't really a sync problem, but a connectivity problem between the BB and the Desktop Software (lack of sync is a cascaded symptom, but connectivity is the root issue)...much different! • BLACKBERRY TORCH - won't turn on and desktop manager won't recognise it - I can't get my contacts

    Hi all,
I'm new to this so please bare with me.
I'll try and be as brief as possible. Up until last week I had the Blackberry Torch 9800. I was due an upgrade and about two days before I went to contact my network provider my Torch battery died (it wasn't broken at this point, it just was drained and needed charged) so I went to charge it and it did that thing where the battery was so dead it wouldn't even switch on whilst charging.
I plugged it in and rather than charge like normal it was completely dead and the only activity it offered me was two red flashing lights as it 'charged'. From that moment on it has not turned on. Dead as can be. If I plug to charge (wall charger OR USB port) I get the two bright red flashing notification lights but it will not go on.
Anyway rather than send it to be repaired I opted for a new phone as I was due an upgrade anyway and intended on doing so whether the Torch was alive and kicking at this point or not. Cut a long story short I got my new blackberry (9360 curve) it is all set up with my e-mail etc, media card and same sim card swapped over but as Blackberry insist on your contact numbers being saved to the handset and not the sim my contacts are stuck in my Torch 9800.
When I go to plug the Torch in to Desktop manager to get the contacts saved to there and then sync over to my new handset the Torch is so dead that DManager won't even read/recognise it. My network say since this is not an issue with network etc they can't really help and gave me a number for Blackberry services in England somewhere (they are office hrs so can't phone until Monday morning).
Please can someone help? I have my new 9360 all up and running but my contacts are stuck in my Torch and that is the only place they are? DManager won't recognise the Torch because it is dead - except the two flashing lights - and therefore won't let me at the contacts that way.
ANY help would be appreciated - please not too techinal as not great with all of that side of things!
    Sorry for the long post.

  • Desktop Manager Won't Work

I have downloaded the desktop manager, and like the past version, this one still wont recognize my blackberry 8330 Smartphone, I am using Windows Vista and multiple USB connection devices. I have opened the DM first, then attached the phone, and vise-versa. The phone is recognizing the connection because it lights up as charging.
I did everything SpawnMod suggested on the other blackberryboard forum, using both the decimal and hexagonal values of 1. Nothing has worked can anyone please tell me how to get the desk manager to recognize my phone, it's very annoying that I have never once been able to upload any photos from my phone (and small memory too) let alone that its only SMS and no MMS texting.
    Thanks
(Here's what SpawnMod said to do and I did it all)
    http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-software/169912-desktop-manager-windows-7-a.html
"For anyone having the issue with Desktop Manager stating "Before you begin, verify that your current BlackBerry device is connected to your computer", this may resolve your problem (it worked for me even with Bluetooth):
    1) Make sure no "Desktop Manager" components are running. You may need to kill BbDevMgr.exe, RIMDeviceManager.exe, and DesktopMgr.exe using Task Manager
    2) Run regedit.exe
    3) Navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Manager
    4) Create a new 32bit dword reg value named "DeviceConnection" and set the value to 1
    5) Launch Desktop Manager
For me this was a new install in a VM I created to test this with. I noticed that there was no value named "DeviceConnection" where one does exist on a machine of mine that is working. Once I did this, then DM would at least start up and not show that stupid message screen where it then does not allow you to select the device. It appears that the programmers at RIM need to go back to school and learn how to test application updates and use FRESH computer images for their testing."

I have a new Bold 9650 (upgraded from a curve). My curve recognized and would sync with no problems. I used BB Desktop Manager to restore my new bold with all it's contacts and such. When showing up in DM, the options for restore and back up are available. When I click on applications it says I need a newer version of desktop manager. I have downloaded the most recent from the website and it still says this.
More importantly, the SYNC option doesn't even come up while the two are connected. It stays greyed out and won't let me get the option to sync. This worked fine with the curve, but the bold won't sync!!! Help please!!!

I have a recurring issues for 4 weeks whereby the desktop manager will not recognize my Playbook (PB).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled software.
My PB recognizes my PC upon connection.
My PC makes the standard noise when a USB is connected, but the D-Manager refuses to recognize the PB.  Z drive does not come up either. And in Network Connections I have a LAN3 which recognizes the Reseach in Motion unit.
Plus my BB Bold is recognized.
I have already unistalled and re-installed software.  Nothing seems to work.
I have spent 6 hours with RIM tech support going to the highest of levels and nothing.
    HELP! ;-)
    A

Is the PC a Windows based or MAC based?
What operating system are you using?
If you are using XP, you need to install Service Pack3.
With XP you need to install the latest Framework from MS.  Going from memory I believe it is Framework 4.
If you are on Windows 7 you need the latest Service Pack.
You will need the latest version of the Blackberry Desktop software package installed.
Some older PC computers have issues with newer software even with all the OS updates, and not only with RIM software. This is because of the BIOS and chip set on the mother board. In some cases a BIOS upgrade, plus the OS upgrades will fix this type of thing on an older computer.
I have a twelve your old PIII server using dual processors running on XP-Pro that I still use in my network. There is no possible way I was able to get the Desktop software to properly work on it. It turned out to be a mother board chipset issue. The RIM software works on every other newer computer I have in our system.

  • Torch 9810 and Desktop Manager won't talk

    Hi there,
I have a big problem connecting my torch 9810 with the Desktop Manager (6.1.0.35).
    The situation is the following:
If I go to the PC Device Manager (from "My Computer") I get the Blackberry device recognized and working properly, this means that the PC is understanding that I connected a BB.
But when I open the Desktop Software and the BB Device Manager there is no way they can see it.
    I tried everything:
    1) clean reinstallation of the software
    2) Update of BB USB drivers

Sometimes the Desktop Software will say "Connecting" in the lower right corner.
I was using a 6.something version and upgraded to the latest revision of 7 and I still have the same error.
Blackberry is recognized by the PC as a blackberry, but the desktop software always has the Backup option greyed out.
