Desktop Manager won't start

I'm using Windows 7, and I just updated my desktop manager to the newest version (6 or 7 I don't really remember  )
Then, when I tried to back up my files, the software just froze up, so I closed it, and now I can't seem to open it back up.
Anyone know what went wrong?

  • Sync on desktop manager won't start with new 9700

I am attaching my 9700, with a USB cable, to my laptop. The Desktop Manager software opens but it will not start the sync'ing process with my device.
    - the little "check" box - "automatically synchronize device and computer when USB connected" is switched on
    - I am using the latest version of Desktop Manager
    - the "Synchronize" tab is in grey. It's grey'ed out. When my curser hovers over "Synchronize" it won't light up, as in, it won't let me press the Synchronize button to initiate the process.
    - my 9700 is brand new. I had no synchronizing problems with my previous model, the Curve.
    - my laptop is a great device, I don't currently, nor haven't had, any issues with it in the past - DELL D420 Latitude. I seem to have all the drivers I need
    - I am running Windows XP
    - I am not linking to a server at work. My Blackberry is set is purely a directly link from the 9700 device, to my computer, and syncs with the calendar, address book and tasks list (MS Outlook 2003 from MS Office)
    - my new 9700 - I bought it 2weeks ago. It did sync in the beginning. About three times successfully. But not now obviously.
    - on my Windows bar at the bottom of my computer screen it pops up "new hardware added" and the 9700 device is no longer described by its identity number (PIN ref?), it says "new hardware added, 'memory device'"
    - I've searched through the Blackberry help pages and so far, all I can come up with is that my computer can't seem to recognise now, for some unknown reason, that it is connected to my 9700. Blackberry help suggested I go to the "pairing" pages of the Help guide, but I thought "pairing" was only a subject that involves Bluetooth activities. Not a USB cable connection.
    Anyone got any ideas?

    Hey Graeme0309,
If you disconnect the BlackBerry from your computer and open Desktop Manager, are you able to open Synchronize?
What version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager are you using?

  • Blackberry Desktop manager won't start

I cannot get desktop manager to run on a Vista Business machine.  DM appears in task manager but seems to hang and never appear.  There are no error messages or events in any logs that I can find.
I have completely removed DM and clean up any remaining reg entries or files and re installed it but still no joy.
The user running it is a local admin.
    Any ideas?

So here's how I fixed my issue.
    Delete the Rim.Desktop.exception.log located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data
Run the application, it will crash with the error message above and create a new Rim.Desktop.exception.log file. Open it in notepad and look through it.
In my case the exception was this.
Exception message is: The current build operation (build key Build Key[Rim.Desktop.Shell.MyBlackBerryApplication, null]) failed: Could not load file or assembly 'Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManager, Version=6.0.2.44, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies
I followed the suggestion of renaming the file C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Modules\Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManger.dll to Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManger.dll.old
I then tried to lauch the application and it crashed, you must do this! renaming it back without this step will not work. Then I went back and renamed the dll file back to it's original name Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManger.dll and sure enough the application worked.
Must be some messed up reference somewhere, it's stupid and RIM should figure this out before releasing updates. Obviously your issue may be different but the exception.log file should point you in the right direction.

  • Desktop manager won't start, sometimes

Edit: I have migrated from kdm to sddm and the problem is just the same.
I have a really weird problem with my laptop (Lenovo E335):
Sometimes, when I boot/reboot my laptop, kdm is started correctly, but other times (maybe more often) kdm won't start, and I need to login as root in a terminal, and run:
    $ systemctl restart kdm
After doing this, kdm is always restarted correctly.
Whenever I boot/reboot the system, before kdm is started or fails, I see always these text lines in the console:
[FAILED] Failed to start Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of backlight:acpi_video
See "systemctl status systemd-backlight@backlight:acpi_video2.service" for details.
Starting Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of backlight:radeon_bl0...
[OK] Started Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of backlight:radeon_bl0.
When kdm fails, the boot process ends with this screen, and then I have to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to open the terminal.
When this happens, these lines can be read in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
(EE) Screen0 deleted because no matching config section.
    (II) UnloadModule: "radeon".
(EE) Device(s) detected, but none match those in the config file.
    (EE) no screens found(EE)
What puzzles me is that this only happens sometimes, apparently randomly.

  • Fabric Manager won't Start

I upgraded to 3.1(2a) and then I reinstalled Fabric Manger and Device Manager. Fabric Manager won't start, error is "Unable to connect to server! Admin login from 127.0.0.1 failed". Device Manager is fine.

I am running into the same situation but with FM(3.0.2a) on a Windows Server 2003. We are using Citrix for FM client login. Looking at the windows services FM server services is in running status. The second login attempt would work, not sure why?
When log in locally via windows remote desktop connection we get these error dialogs "ERROR Open Fabric - Fabric Manager 3.0(2a) Error in register for events: Connection refused to host: 10.1.x.x;nested exception is:java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
    and
NoSuchOject: no such object in table
After clear these dialogs the second attempt with work.
I can see login issues from remote client but even locally on the server? Any suggestions?

Can anyone help me troubleshoot why the Blackberry Desktop Manager won't work when I plug my Balckberry Curve 9310 into the USB port.  The program freezes and shuts down.  If I try to use the device switch wizard I get this message "Fatal Error has occured while updating your device's software. Just got a new Bold and now Desktop manager won't configiure to sync with Outlook.  It gives me a "Not able to connect to internet" error.  Removing firewalls and Norton didn't help.

    Hi MarcBrittain,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
This article should provide more information on this issue. http://bbry.lv/mfgghx
There are some additional steps in it to try to diagnose the issue. If none of the steps in the article resolve the issue, you may want to try disabling your startup items in the System Configuration Utility and rebooting before trying again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgraded desktop software won't start

In a moment of complete insanity I allowed my desktop software to be updated - last time I did this I couldn't sync for over a month.
Naturally the install didn't do smoothly and now the software won't start.....
The processes start, and I can kill them in windows task manager, but the software crashes - I get the 'program has stopped working' message - before it even finishes starting.
Since all my email and calendar applications are web based I shouldn't need to sync at all, my Android tablet doesn't need to, I just point it at my online calendar and hey presto! it's all synced.

I have the exact same issue.  Have already tried reinstalling (repairing) by downloading from website to no avail. Can someone help please?

    Try following things as well:
         # Make casuser a member of adminitrators group.
#Make sure you have swap properly and manually configured (twice of RMA):
    1. Right click on "Computer" and select "Properties." Click on "Advanced System Settings."
    2. Choose the "Advanced" tab and click "Settings," under "Performance."
    3. Choose the "Advanced" tab and click "Change" under "Virtual Memory."
    4. Uncheck "Automatically Manage Paging File Size" for all drives.
    5. Click "Custom Size" and enter the amount of swap space in MB (megabytes). Click "Set" and then "OK" three times to return to the desktop.

  • BLACKBERRY TORCH - won't turn on and desktop manager won't recognise it - I can't get my contacts

    Hi all,
I'm new to this so please bare with me.
I'll try and be as brief as possible. Up until last week I had the Blackberry Torch 9800. I was due an upgrade and about two days before I went to contact my network provider my Torch battery died (it wasn't broken at this point, it just was drained and needed charged) so I went to charge it and it did that thing where the battery was so dead it wouldn't even switch on whilst charging.
I plugged it in and rather than charge like normal it was completely dead and the only activity it offered me was two red flashing lights as it 'charged'. From that moment on it has not turned on. Dead as can be. If I plug to charge (wall charger OR USB port) I get the two bright red flashing notification lights but it will not go on.
Anyway rather than send it to be repaired I opted for a new phone as I was due an upgrade anyway and intended on doing so whether the Torch was alive and kicking at this point or not. Cut a long story short I got my new blackberry (9360 curve) it is all set up with my e-mail etc, media card and same sim card swapped over but as Blackberry insist on your contact numbers being saved to the handset and not the sim my contacts are stuck in my Torch 9800.
When I go to plug the Torch in to Desktop manager to get the contacts saved to there and then sync over to my new handset the Torch is so dead that DManager won't even read/recognise it. My network say since this is not an issue with network etc they can't really help and gave me a number for Blackberry services in England somewhere (they are office hrs so can't phone until Monday morning).
Please can someone help? I have my new 9360 all up and running but my contacts are stuck in my Torch and that is the only place they are? DManager won't recognise the Torch because it is dead - except the two flashing lights - and therefore won't let me at the contacts that way.
ANY help would be appreciated - please not too techinal as not great with all of that side of things!
    Sorry for the long post.

  • Remote Desktop Management service not starting. service-specific error: %%2284126209 - Event ID: 7024

    Hi Forum members,
We have a client that has intermittent issues with RDS on a 2012 R2 server.
As an overview of the environment, the client has a single VMWare host support 2 x Windows 2012 R2 VMs one is the File/Print/Email server and the 2nd is the RDS server used to allow the client to run MYOB Enterprise. Both servers have the AD DS role and
    DNS roles amongst others.
The 1st issue is that the RD Connection Broker shows the error: "The server pool does not match the RD Connection Brokers that are in it. and then "1. Cannot connect to any of the specified RD Connection Broker servers".
The above issue seems to be caused by the RDMS service not starting. When you attempt to start it, the service stops and the error in the title is logged in the "System" event log. Full transcript below:

I have been attempting to resolve these errors for some time, without success. I have read the many KBs and forum entries related to the above and applied a number of the suggested fixes, including the one which suggests to add the NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES
to the "Logon as a Service" in the "User Rights Assignment" of the "Default Domain Policy" which is linked to the domain level, that both servers are objects of.
My question to the forum is, can anyone come up with a solution to resolve the above issues and all the RDMS service to start which will then hopefully resolve the broker error?
    Regards,
    David West.

    Hi David,
If virtual machines on the server are Windows Server 2012, then it is not supported to install Remote Desktop Connection Broker on a Domain Controller.
    More information for you:
Remote Desktop Services role cannot co-exist with AD DS role on Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2799605/de
Guidelines for installing the Remote Desktop Session Host role service on a computer running Windows Server 2012 without the Remote Desktop Connection Broker role service
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839
If the VMs are Windows Server 2012 R2, I suggest you install RDS on a separate machine to see if the issue persists.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

  • Desktop Manager won't do two-way sync

    Hi,
Desktop Manager (2.2.1 build 7) seems to have gotten into a mode where it won't do complete syncs with my Curve 8100.  I'm only want to sync iCal and Address Book (Mac OSX 10.6.8), but DM seem to be in a write-only mode.   New events on my laptop get transferred to the Curve, but no calendar event I put on the Curve get pulled to the laptop.  Moreover, DM seems to push to the Curve events that I have already delete on my laptop.  For example, if I accidently create a "New Event" in iCal and delete it immeidately, it turns up on the Curve as "New Event" the next time I sync.
I suspect I've set some flag incorrectly, but I can't find anything.  I've "forgotten" the Curve in DM several times, deleted all its data, and reinstall DM, but nothing seems to help.
    Any thought?
    Thanks.

    Hey Wharton,
I certainly feel your pain on this, I've got the 9900 Bold and it won't do anything on the desktop software apart from back it up, annoyed doesn't even cut the surface of the frustration I've had with this after the hours I've spent searching the forums looking for an answer to this, mine won't sync, update, or do anything really. I'm really getting fed up with what seems RIM's very passive attitude towards this situation whilst everyone on the Windows platform seems to be getting on fine with it, I very much doubt they'll read this or even care if they did to be honest because I've had problems since I got my phone and it's got worse everytime they've released an update. I'm now at a point where I can't even look up music on my phone by artist or genre because it tells me there's no media available but yet when I go into all songs they're all there and play fine. Seriously RIM, sort this **bleep** out, it's getting beyond a joke, fed up with having a £500 smartphone that I can't update or sync with my Mac. Sorry this doesn't answer your question Wharton but I stay hopeful that RIM will sort this issue out or someone has a suggestion that helps us!
    Craig
