Desktop Mgr 4.6 fails to see internet

I just got a Blackberry 8330 and I installed  version 4.6 of the Desktop Manager for synching.  Even though I have tunneled a hole through the firewall for it, it says it can't find an internet connection and requires one for the first connection.  I tried turning off my antivirus and fireawlls and it still can't find the internet.  Obviously, I've got internet because here I am so what the heck?  I've on DSL always on connection at 12 mbps using Panda AV and Firewall on a Vista machine.  Thanks for any help

  • Desktop Mgr: Music services failed to load.

Hello, I've tried to reinstall the desktop manager, formatted the 16GB Media Card, in the Memory section of the Options (Compression - Disabled, Media Card Support - On, Media Transfer Protocol - On, Mass Storage Mode - On, Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connnected - Yes).
I can sync Pictures, Videos, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks.  However, when I select Music from Media Sync I get "Music Services Failed to Load "An unexpected error occurred."

    Also I'm running iTunes 10.4.1.10.

  • Desktop Mgr 6 - "Music services failed to load"

    I've got a T-Mobile Curve 8520.
This afternoon I uninstalled Desktop Mgr 5.0.1 and Office 2007 (with Outlook). I then installed Office 2010 (with Outlook), and finally installed the new Desktop Manager 6.0.0.
Almost everything works, but when I try to go to the Music page in the new Desktop Manager I see this:
    Music services failed to load
    An unexpected error occurred.
I've confirmed that the media card is enabled to act as a Mass Storage Device. I've rebooted the laptop, and shut down and restarted the 8520. I've closed and opened and closed Outlook and Windows Media Player. Desktop Manager is configured to use WMP, not iTunes.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Steve
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks, I didn't even think of looking there. (Sure feel dumb now! )
An error I see in the log states "INNER EXCEPTION: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException -- MESSAGE: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values". The parameter involved relates to a path. It occurred to me that the problem may be due to my music library being stored on a NAS and not the local hard drive, so I removed that library and only used a music library on my D: drive (same physical drive as C: ), but the problem remained.
If I set the Desktop Manager software to use iTunes the music pane loads without problem.
I've attached the log to this post. Thanks for your help.

really this is for desktop mgr 4.6 and 4.7 but i could not write to thread some time ago i purchased documents to go premium. unfortunately at first dataviz was insiting it would only be available OTA, after install, and later after os upgrade to patch .055 of RIM OS 4.5, at first it wanted to downgrade documents premium to go to the base edition that is included in the OS. then i was using desktop mgr 4.2 or 4.3 this cost me some 20 eur for reupgrade OTA, great, guys then i found the same solution which another thread quotes, i.e. to prevent downgrading by renaming the base alx/cod file for docs to go in the loader directory (common files, rim , shared or such, also there is a cache directory) this helped for a while then i met this text by dataviz, which was suggesting RIM had "fixed" the downgrading issue in desktop mgr 4.7 well cheers after installing it (and i have two pcs, on both of which i had to field the same obnoxious tragedy), the device was telling me it wanted to downgrade documents to go. dataviz smartly suggested i should rename the backupfile of docs to go, reboot the device and delete docs to go base edition and reboot again. now obviously, the base edition can t be deleted, since it is part of the OS base of RIM OS 4.5 (after uninstall) but even better: i was NOT able to reupgrade (i now had some desktop installer files for the premium edition) NOT AT ALL even reupgrading OTA would bring back the same stupid !requirement" from desktop mgr to downgrade docs to go dataviz was maintaining, their "fix" was crucial and works. but it does not. some 30 hours later, by accident i found the cause. my BB has OTA switched off. NOWHERE on the pc could i found traces of the old docs to go loader... really nowhere ? no, ALMOST NOWHERE. in temporary internet files there suddenly were some. and it had a url. so the app loader is trying to retrieve the old files from the BB OS vault. i unplugged the pc from the internet, and viola, the upgrade works again. and, sure enough, reconnecting it to the internet, the app loader immediately wants to downgrade the SW again. how abt fixing this. the user should be able to control, what version he wants to have, and also there should be control over whether i want the app loader to retrieve SW from the internet. (and of course dataviz should supply their SW for desktop installers, not just OTA, since the adventure cost me some 40 eur in total for useless OTA reupgrades, which i am not responsible for)

not exactly true is maybe this problem.
but in those 30 hours i was NOT able to erase the application AT ALL
pull on battery or legs. it CANNOT be highlighted for deletion, even after clearing cache and uninstalling pdf to go and documents to go either thru options adv options applications or thru app mgr.
but it absolutely can t be that RIM is leaving this matter as it is

  • Failed to start internet tethering

    Hi
I recently bought a Torch 9850 from Sprint and use it here in the Philippines, my network provider is Globe Telecom. I'm using a prepaid SIM card with my 9850 and registered to BBMAX599 (Full BIS+Streaming+tethering+Network APN).
After my BIS and APN is all set-up, I grabed my 16GB PlayBook (OS 2.0) and tried tethering it to my 9850 using a custom APN Profile since Globe prepaid is using http.globe.com.ph not internet.globe.com.ph which is in the list of Carriers. So after I tried connecting an error "Failed to start internet tethering". So I tried tethering my Bold 9900 using my postpaid sim with internet.globe.com.ph and it connects.
So I was thinking that my Torch 9850 is locked to Sprint and won't allow me to Tether, so what I did is I swap my prepaid sim and put it to my Bold 9900 and my postpaid sim to my Torch 9850. I tried connecting to my Bold 9900 with my prepaid sim on it, this time it shows me the same error "Failed to start internet tethering" same error when my prepaid sim was on my 9850.
I tried tethering my postpaid sim with my 9850 (Sprint) and it connects. So this time I was thinking that the error was on my network. I called my network provider and they guide me through and ask me if I'm currently registered on BBMAX, if my signal indicator is on 3G with a BB logo on it, if my APN is set to http.globe.com.ph and enable APN is check. All of this option is activated, but to now avail they can't anser my concern and forward my concern to top level tech support.
I tried connecting my Torch 9850 with my prepaid sim and tried tethering using the Desktop Manager, to my surprise it works. So what I did is I grabe my PlayBook 64GB with the os 1.0.7 on it and tried tethering, I was thinking that it was a PB Tablet OS issue. Still same error "Failed to start internet tethering"
So my last resort is to ask from my girlfriend's Torch 9810 with her prepaid sim which before I successfully tethered it when the tablet was on OS 1.0.5. I grab both my 16GB (OS2.0) and 64GB(OS1.0.7) both gives me the same error.
Right now I don't know what to do and I'm out of options, I was thinking this is a 1.0.7 issue since I can't connect using my girlfriend's sim which before I did tether successfuly with os 1.0.5.
Any thought? I really need your help, sorry for the long post, I just want to cover all the aspects in my situation. Thank you.

    Hello Strider,
I like you to check out in device manager if you have under ports two ones named: RIM Virtual Serial Port v2(COMXX) where XX in my case is COM10 and COM11 but would be different in your case.
If you don't have these 2 virtual ports then somebody installed the DTM not under the 'Administrator' account. DTM will install also under a user account  and works OK except not for tethering which needs a standard modem driver via the 2 virtual ports.
I suggest to do a clean uninstall (see link)
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206
under the current user account and then re-install DTM 610_b034_multilanguage.exe  under an admin account and give the user a link to the DTM (it is probably still on his/her desktop).
If  this suggestion helped, please, click the blue 'like button' and select the 'resolved' option. Thank you, matt.

  • Desktop Mgr 5 not compatible w/ BB OS 6?

    Hello,
Wondering if there's known issue with BB's running OS 6 being incompatible with Desktop Mgr v. 5 (5.0.0.11).
We've run into this on multiple computers running Desktop Mgr v. 5, where when a BB running OS 6 is connected, the Desktop Mgr crashes.
I can connect a BB up running OS 5 and have no issues, but once I upgrade that same BB to OS 6 Desktop Mgr will crash - once Desktop Mgr recognizes the device, it freezes, then I get the pop up giving me the option to send an error report. Regardless of if I send/don't send the report, Desktop Mgr then closes. If I relaunch, it does the same thing.
I've reinstalled Desktop Mgr v. 5 but get the same result.
I don't have this issue with Desktop Mgr v. 6, but problem is is that we have a number of laptops out there with Desktop Mgr v. 5 along with BB devices on OS 6, that I won't be able to get to in a timely manner.
Is this a known issue, and might there be some sort of patch/fix we can implement to resolve?
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • HT1338 The Software Update function on my iMac mid 2007 with OS X 10.8.2 fails to see new software

The Software Update function on my iMac mid 2007 with OS X 10.8.2 fails to see new software ,not with /Apple/Software Update or /About this Mac or /System Preference/Software Update, the problem started already with 10.8 and I had to download the 10.8.2 Combo manualy, installation was succesful, but since iPhoto11 (9.4) is now available my existing iPhoto11 (9.3.2) will not detect updates using AppStore or all the other ways, Any idee is welcome.

Glad you got your Mac fixed. But I hope you realize that an update can always go awry; corrupted download, stray voltage spike in your AC power, even a bug in the Installer of the Update. That's why it's never a good idea to update anything that affects your business for at least a week or even two AFTER the update comes out.
And this applies not just to the OS Update, it may be even more important with an update to one of the apps you need for your business! 8-| There's hardly ever a valid reason to make an Update while working on a clients task. Certainly no reason to make an Update during the work week. That's what Week Ends are for! LOL!
Basic rule for the OS Update, for me, anyway, is to NEVER use the Software Update version. I ALWAYS go to the Apple site and download the Combo Updater. It's often much larger, but it's never failed me. Maybe just that fewer people are hitting that server! Who knows? Who cares?
Second basic rule, WAIT a few weeks to see if there are problems associated with any update. What's the advantage of being the first one on the block with a problem?!
Third basic rule, try the download a second time. Bits/electrons are very slippery! Some have been known to fall out of the Internet "tubes!"

  • Pearl with memory card works until synch with desktop mgr

I have a Pearl 8130 and a 4gb MicroSD HC card.  The card has been formatted and I used the Roxio software from desktop mgr to move stuff to the card.  All was good.  Now each time I connect the pearl and sync with the desktop software, once I disconnect from the laptop, the phone doesn't recognize the memory card.  I have to "add" it each time and then it works fine.  Any idea why my connecting to the desktop software would somehow make the phone no longer see the memory card?  I searched in the support forums and nothing came up.
    Desktop Mgr ver 4.3.0.17, smartphone v 4.3.0.97
Media card support On, Mass storage mode On, Auto enable Mass Storage Mode Yes, Total space 3.7GB, Free space 3.4GB
    Thanks.

hi Sanj, you may try to delete everything form the memory card with a card reader under windows, or also may try to format the memory card to fat32, and then try use it again with your phone. I recommend to format the card with the phone after it started successfully.

  • Blackberry Desktop MGR update

How do you update BB Desktop Mgr?
With or without my 8520 Curve phone attached to the PC, it shows "Blackberry Curve 8520" and it seems to show on the 'home' page all the 8520 data. It says software version 4.6.1.286 (assuming this is for the 8520).
Where do view/update the Desktop Mgr software version?
    Thanking you

You may be confusing different things. There is only one Desktop Manager Software, and it is universal for all BBs. So the version of your device and the version of the Desktop Software are not linked. You see the version of your Desktop Software via the normal method in Windows -- via the "Uninstall a Program" link within the Control Panel.

  • No longer see "Internet Explorer Maintenance" in Group Policy Management Console

I am trying to configure Internet Explorer favorites on a GPO that I have already constructed.  I had already successfully created the GPO many months ago and wanted to go back and check on some things.
However in the GPMC when I navigate to User Configuration-->Policies-->Windows Settings, I no longer see "Internet Explorer Maintenance" listed.  This is where I had previously configured Internet Explorer favorites.
I uninstalled and reinstalled GPM using these instructions
http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-install-the-group-policy-management-in-windows-7/ but this did not help.
Previously I had two Windows XP computers in the OU that this GPO was applied to.  I had no problems at all configuring it and getting the rules and favorites to apply to these two computers.  I just recently upgraded one of the computers to Windows
7 and used the same machine name for the computer.  The computer gets some of the rules applied to it but not all.  In particular the IE favorites are not being applied which led me to check the policy in the GPMC.  However, as stated before
I cannot even see "Internet Explorer Maintenance" which has me confused on what to do next.  Please help.

I'm too tired at the moment to check all you already did, so just let me
ask some further questions on that item:
This is a user or a computer item? If it is a user item and "run in
logged on users context" is checked, I believe it will fail, because a
non administrator cannot add all users favorites.
I'm unaware whether all users favorites works at all - never used it...
For further clarification, I'd enable GPP debug logging:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2008/07/18/enabling-group-policy-preferences-debug-logging-using-the-rsat.aspx
NO THEY ARE NOT EVIL, if you know what you are doing:
    Good or bad GPOs?

  • Creative Cloud fails to see installed apps

I have installed Creative Cloud in a non-standard way.  I install the applications on a separate drive from the operating system (and indeed where Adobe insists that Creative Cloud installs itself), this is done for all of my applications as it means that, usually, a re-install of the operating system for whatever reason doesn't require re-downloading and installing everything again.
Recently the C drive failed completely and had to be replaced.  All of the CC (2014 versions) applications still exit and can still be launched from the drive they were installed on, but the CC application itself fails to see the installed app's.
I've tried changing the installation folder to the one where they all are;  changing the language;  signing in and out after each action;  and deleting/renaming the file in the OOBE folder.
    So, two questions :
Why does CC not have an installation path other than C drive?  There is nothing in it that requires it be there.
How do I make CC "see" all of the applications that are already installed?  (N.B. deleting the folders and re-downloading isn't a solution, it's a work-around that is clumsy and stupid, putting the entire onus on the customer)
Finally, am I the only one who finds the CC launcher to be the biggest PITA of the new version of CS?  Every other version I've used worked and updated faultlessly, the latest version just seems to be an absolute mess.

The install info is stored in the opm.db and caps.db files and those went down the drain with your system drive. There is no way to restore it without reinstalling. The rest is not worth debating. Things just are as they are.

I just noticed the exact same thing. It turns out that the httpd-ssl.conf file on my system is still the old v2.2 syntax, which means that the SSLMutex directive is still in there. This is an invalid directive after 2.2.
This is where things get interesting. At first, I simply thought I had forgotten to merge httpd-ssl.conf.pacnew after apache had been upgraded to 2.4. However, when I check my pacman.log, it appears that httpd-ssl.conf was never upgraded when apache went to 2.4 - (2.2.26-1 -> 2.4.7-1). There was never a pacnew file generated to be merged.
I took a look at the apache package via the abs and the "proper" httpd-ssl.conf is certainly in there, so why pacman never created a pacnew file is a mystery.
Anyway, to fix this: pull the httpd-ssl.conf from the apache package, either from your cache, using the abs and building it, or (I think) pacman may re-install it if you move the file to a backup location (not sure about this). Then merge your original httpd-ssl-conf with the new one.

  • Windows 8 Desktop Mode Apps have no access to internet

I've seen a couple people ask questions about their browsers not working in desktop mode for Windows 8, and none of them were answered.   I've got the same problem with mine, however it's any application that runs in desktop mode.
Problem:  NO application running desktop mode has internet, games, browsers, chat programs...nothing.
    History:
-Was running Windows 7 Ultimate and upgraded to Windows 8, choosing to migrate over all my applications files and personal settings.
-Metro style apps and browsers have no problems accessing the internet
    Attempts:
-attempted to reset IE 10 Desktop mode to all default settings, clearing browser cache, SSL slate, and resetting to default.
    -attempted to reinstall chrome.
-running CMD prompt in desktop mode, able to ping and use DNS as normal
-Windows 8 defender is disabled, running MS Forefront for AV.
-forcibly set my adapter DNS to a google dns 8.8.8.8
Any idea's what to try next?

hi there rebirth16 i had the exact same problem upgraded from windows 7 64bit to windows 8 pro and my desktop apps would not connect to the internet but the apps on metro did :-s. (strange) i upgraded with all my software and personal files intact im not
sure but some setting or some program caused the internet on the desktop to not connect. after a day of going through the pc my solution was to reinstal windows 8 but selected for it to just keep personal files i.e music pictures videos but not software after
that the finished the internet worked perfect well happy now down side you need to reintal your programs but this is the only way i could fix it.

  • I fail to see how Safari V 6.0 is suppose to be better

I have an iMac (early 2009) and I'm running OSX Lion 10.7.4. Safari 5.1.7 was working fine for me and then I made the fatal mistake of upgrading to V6.0. I left the ranks of Microsoft/Windows in search of a better product and although the higher price tag didn't scare me off I wanted a better, more reliable computing experience. I have noticed as of late that Apple products like Safari are not improving, but rather falling into the pitfalls like their competitor Microsoft. The word upgrade implies to me that something better (not just newer) is being offered in the latest release. You don't take away something that was working okay and replace it with bugs and glitches and then force your buying cliental to unwittingly become your research & development division. Test the product aggressively before releasing it to the public. And for Pete's sake live by the adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I don't want to take up anyone's time unnecessarily, but other improvements (for lack of a better word) have been made and I fail to see how it's better. The ripple video transition in iMovie was taken away. WHY?? No one was surveyed or asked what they liked or disliked, they just do whatever they want. The programmers are not the only ones using and purchasing these products, it's millions of folks like you and I that are paying the bills so we should have a say into it. Making cosmetic changes to give an old product a facelift is not reason enough to call the latest version an upgrade! Being innovative is what caused me to be drawn to Apple and away from Microsoft in the first place. Don't let me down!

    wayne --
Rapport has never really worked well with Safari.
They claim they have an update, but others who have applied it have reported continued failure.
Empty cache is now in the Developers Menu, which can be displayed in the Safari menu, if you check it in Safari Preferences.
It is also included with "Empty History."
