Desktop Mgr & importing contacts
I am a new user to BB, using the Tour. I'd like to import my phone book and contacts, and then keep them synchronized with my desktop PC. I've been reading the posts and the user's manual. I'm not an Outlook user, or Yahoo. I use ACT for a database, and feel confident i can build a suitable "PDA database" in ACT, and then transport it in to ASCII for import into BB Tour. The problem is that I can't seem to find anything that tells me what the proper format or syntax is? Would I need separate databases ( well, ascii delimited files, I guess) for the phone book and then again for the Calendar?
Can anybody please help?

I believe you will need separate files for contacts and the calendar, but I'm not 100% sure about this. I would test it out by backing up the phone first then fiddling around with it. If anything does go wrong you can restore the backup. I'm not familiar with ascii since I use Outlook for synching contacts, calnedar, memo and tasks but I hope this info helps a little bit.

I can't import contacts from Outlook to Address Book
I've tried to do the research before asking this question, but I can't get this to work. How do you import contacts from Microsoft Outlook to Address book? When I try to export from Outlook, the only option I have is .csv file, it doesn't give me an option to export as a vcard. I've exported to a .csv file and tried importing this into Address Book as a text file, and it opens up a window called Text File Import. When I click OK nothing happens. I'm new to the Mac world so I don't know what I'm doing wrong or what I'm missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
One way if you are still accessing an email account with Outlook is the following:
In Contacts, click the contact you want to send as a vCard or select all to send all, and then on the Actions menu, click Forward as vCard.
All contacts will be added to a new message created as separate vCard attachments. Send the message to an email account you are accessing with the Mail.app on the Mac.
Create a folder on the Mac desktop or in your location of choice and save all vCard attachments received via email to this folder.
Launch Address Book and at the menu bar, go to File > Import and select vCards navigating to the folder that contains the vCard files sent from Outlook. -
I have 400 contacts in my nokia phone I want to transfer them to my blackberry.. I have tried to send using Bluetooth but it shows error message UNABLE TO CONNECT.. How can I do this
First, find out from Nokia HOW to export those contacts from your old device to a simple ascii CSV file (or even an Excel file).
From there, you can import using the BlackBerry Desktop Software to the handheld device.

Desktop Mgr: Music services failed to load.
Hello, I've tried to reinstall the desktop manager, formatted the 16GB Media Card, in the Memory section of the Options (Compression - Disabled, Media Card Support - On, Media Transfer Protocol - On, Mass Storage Mode - On, Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connnected - Yes).
I can sync Pictures, Videos, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks. However, when I select Music from Media Sync I get "Music Services Failed to Load "An unexpected error occurred."

Importing contacts from pst into iCloud using Outlook 2010
I am trying to import contacts from a PST file into iCloud by importing it with Outlook 2010's standard import tool. I have set up iCloud on my desktop and have a node in my Outlook 2010 Contacts menu for iCloud. There are about 2000 contacts in the PST, but the import completes with only 511 contacts every time. The pop-up message at the end says "some items cannot be copied. they were either moved or deleted, or access was denied."
How can I troubleshoot this? Or, is there an alternate way to bring these contacts into iCloud for use also in Outlook and my iPhone 4?
Glenni'm not sure this is possible. as far as i know you can only get contacts onto the ipod from either outlook OR windows contacts (which i think is only available with vista.)
there is an app called funambol, which will allow you to sync your contacts to an internet server, your ipod, and your mobile phone, using wifi.

Importing contacts from windows outlook xp into leopard contacts
I am a PC freak, 25 years experience, that now is turning total MAC, have on mac pro, one all new iMac 20" and one macbook g4.
major item holding back from transition was the inability to find a way to transport several thousand customer info, stored in outlook, using Categories as vital selecting criteria.
for some reason ??? Entourage will not import, succfully, this information from outlook. after much ado I have finally come up with a working solution.
I will only do the transiotion once, but maybe others can benefit from my findings (when I browse the forums, I spot lots of frustrated users sitting in similar situations)
So here it is:
the ONLY way (that works)to transport contact from outlook is to
open one contact
save as vCard
send as attachment in mail or put on USB stick
+
in leopard
open mail /USB stick
save vCard to folder on mac
in adressbook import vCard from (that folder)
and repeat...
Now i had these thousands contacts so I found a utility for windows (Mouse and Key recorder 6.3 at www.kratronic.com, free trial for 30 days) that, after some trimmings did the "clicking" for me, storing the generated vCards in appropiate folders (some 400 at a time, for safety)
I emailed these to my .mac mail, and they arrived well. Put them into folders on the desktop and, from adressbook (I use Danish Leopard so not totally sure of english description) I choose Import vCard.
Now comes the distress point not vCards all were imported....
Only a bleak message that not all vCards were imported not the reason!
after several trials I found out that even the content in adressbook were shoving say 437 items, and I had offered say 950 items for import, I got the full quantity shown if i simply sorted the adressbook (first name or last name first....)
then
behold all items were in the adressbook.
I dont have to worry about Entourage, Its synced with the adressbook in Leopard, Grin grin. so no need as I thought to import into Entourage.
this last feature seems not to be used / known when looking in forums, so here it is for your use.

Probably the easiest way to sync contact information would be by first exporting your contact list from Windows 7 into a vcard file or an excel type file such as a .csv file. Then, by using Blackberry Desktop Manager, import that file and load the contacts onto your device. Personally, I spent a few dollars and bought a program called Data Pilot from Susteen. Data Pilot works with all sorts of phones and devices allowing you to easily transfer contacts from one device to another. I use it to regularly backup my Tour's contact list. It was worth the money to buy that program because it saves all of the fields in the phone such as addresses, email addresses, etc. Anyways, let me know if the above works for you.

8830 Calendar Synch Issue/Vista 2007/Desktop Mgr v5.0.1
I use Vista 2007; I have 5 e-mail accounts on my 8830 - none are linked to Microsoft Outlook. Somehow, my calendar on Outlook is using an e-mail address that is not the set default on the 8830 to synch (I had to list one e-mail as a default on the 8830's General Options) and so when I open an appt. syched from Outlook on the 8830 it shows the secondary address and I can't change it to the set default. When I create a calendar entry on the 8830, it shows the default e-mail but then it doesn't synch to the Outlook (unless I list the secondary e-mail). I have not been able to figure out how to fix this. Whenever I synch to Desktop Mgr v5.0.1 it synchs off of the secondary e-mail address. Any ideas on how to fix this? I've had this unit for years and this is the first major issue I've encountered. This has not affected my notes/tasks/contacts/memo sections, which is a good thing. Thank you!

Go to Solution.My unit is fixed - here's how we did it (thanks Verizon):
1. Back up data via Blackberry Desktop Manager
2. Under Options, Advanced Options, Default Services: Delete all the e-mail associated Calendars (CICM extensions, if I recall correctly). I only used Microsoft Outlook - not connected with an e-mail so this was just getting rid of the non-use calendars.
3. Wipe 8830
4. Restore the 8830 using the back up data file via Desktop Manager (note, this created duplicate entries again, because the unit took out the associated e-mails on the entries, and thus now I had one Outlook calendar on the 8830 with merged/duplicated entries from before - everything else synched fine).
5. On Desktop Manager, go to Back-Up/Restore Advanced options, and move the Calendar-ALL database over to the left hand side box called FILE (to create a back up file just for that)
6. On the right hand side, clear the Calendar-ALL database (the one from the 8830)
6. Go back to Synchronization, then set calendar synchronization this first time to go from Outlook-Device (change to dual synch later).
5. I did a full/regular synch and that solved the problem. -

BB Desktop Mgr Error Msg While Syncing
Hello all,
I have a BB Storm 9530 (all updated) and an using BB Desktop Mgr for Mac (iMac all updated). I am Syncing via USB with the standard Mac programs (Address Book, ICal, Media, etc.)
When Syncing, an error box appears when the sync icon is spinning/hanging by the Contacts. The BB Desktop software icon in the Dock jumps up. The error box (useless for troubleshooting) says "A Sync error occurred. Please retry the sync.) When I click "ok" the sync continues & finishes.
ANALYZING THE "LOG" FILE, I SUSPECT THE FOLLOWING:

Additionally, in the BB Desktop Mgr software screen, there is an asterisk/triangle on Calendar (only) that says "One or more of the selected calendars are read-only and can only be sync'd from you computer to your device". I suspect this is the "birthday" object (read only) which is unchecked. How do you deal with this? Why is it an error/warning?
I am disappointed to find that BB/Apple do not support this new software product with a telephone/chat/email submission. Hopefully, you all can help!

Pat S., NYThank you for your reply. The sync process "completed" (went past contacts and through the media) but an error msg appeared that said that there was an error and that I should re-sync. I do not know if each/every item was successfully merged. I wish there was a way to know what the error was and what did not sync. I was hoping someone would have an understanding of the two log lines I posted. Thanks!

Almost unable to import contacts from ASCII
Hi, I have 8220 and Desktop software 6.0.1.18 on Vista 32.
So I have a problem getting data from ASCII file. It is very strange, but when importing contacts, the intellisync (?) tool considers cyrillic letter 'я' as the end of the record and begins the next record. After the first record with this letter, all other records are being imported incorrectly. I had Desktop manager 5 with this problem and upgraded to 6 but nothing changed.
At first, I thought I changed originally-exported file, but then I made an experiment when I used the exported file and got the same result
This problem doesn't appear when synchronizing to and from Windows.
Originally, I had to change almost all phone numbers. I exported to CSV, opened in excel (open office calc) and saved as CSV. I did my best to preserve the structure of the CSV file. So, if I replace this letter 'я' by another character, I will be able to import my contacts.
I was also looking for "intellisync" but found Nokia site saying "page doesn't exists anymore"
BTW, Russian translation of the synchronization tool is terrible. Fortunately, they draw arrows and other well-known symbols.

I have also problem with importing from CSV files (BB 9800 Torch and the latest BB desktop software) as soon as it contains 'я' letters. If being replaced, those entries make no problem.
RIM team, an import function is a must for any phone. I expected a much more mature implementation from your sync product (sorry to say that).

Address Book / iCloud Deletes Imported Contacts Shortly after Import
I ran into a incredbily frustrating problem recently whereby attempting to restore a backup of my Address Book resulted all my contacts being deleted once I reconnected my computer to the internet and my Address Book began syncing with iCloud. I wasn't able to find a solution here but I was able to eventually find one online. I thought it was worth sharing.
Upon exporting a backup of your Address Book you have the choice of slecting to export the Backup as a "Address Book Archive" or as "vCard". If you select "Address Book Archive" and are syncing with iCloud when you attempt to reimport your backup, after about 15 to 30 seconds, iCloud will delete all of the Contacts you've just imported.
Exporting a "Address Book Archive" creates a ".abbu" backup file whereas exporting as a "vCard" exports a ".vcf" backup file. Apparently iCloud doesn't like ".abbu" backup files, but if you didn't know that and you're trying to import your backup contact file you're pretty much screwed!
To get around this problem do the following:
1) Disconnect your computer from the internet
2) Import the "Address Book Archive" ".abbu" backup file into your Address Book
3) Select "All Contacts"
4) Select, File > Export > Export vCard...
5) Save the file to your Desktop
6) Reconnect your computer to the Internet
7) Select "Import"
8) Select the ".vcf" file that you just saved to your Desktop.
Importing your backup as a ".vcf" file will prevent iCloud from deleting all of your contacts upon syncing.
... at least it did for me ( :I had the same problem on both my iPad & iPhone. I adding a contact on my iPad and now everything seems to sync properly. Hmmm, interesting..... THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION.

Cannot import contacts through link

I have been trying to import contacts from a Bold9780 to my z10 but when I connect the z10 to the link it says that can't connect to proxy.
Could you pese help me?You must use BB link to do a device switch from you old bb to z10. With the z10, make sure it is not on USB mass Storage mode or BB link wont recognize it. (settings, Storage and acces, USB mass storage to off.) If your contacts are on desktop outlook, the latest version of BB link allows you to transfer your contacts and calendar.
