Desktop Not Recognizing Cursor

*Cursor Problems:*
- When cursor is moved in hidden Dock, Dock does not appear
- Can't open files, applications
- Can't use menu bar
The only thing that is working properly is the cursor moving about, other then that, it's useless. I've tried restarting and keeping it shutdown for hours upon hours... nothing.

Yes, the USB mouse replaces the problem. Even one touch onto the touchpad brings it all back to square one. I don't mind using a mouse until I get a new Mac but, I might as well just have a desktop if I'm going to be using a mouse for a laptop. Oh well. Thanks for the idea that worked.

Read some threads. Managed a cumbersome workaround by using Roxio to take songs from CD and transfer to MP3 format. Then using Explorer to drop into media card. Spent hours trying to figure out. Newly bought imac 27 desktop not responding, cursor moves only.

My setup did not go well as I was stuck in VoiceOver mode. Command f5 got me out of it but cannot do anything on the desktop, track pad moves cursor but by taping on it the icons do not respond. I am new to apple products, used to windows 7 pc.
Can anyone help me to get started as the computer looks great to use.

if it have a problem then you should
try holding in the power button on the left lower corner on the back untill it turn off
and then turn it on again
then you start with a clean slate

Finder/Desktop not recognizing/seeing external Hard Disks

For 2 weeks, I've used two external hard disks for Time Machine. Both have Mac partitions, with GUID Partition table, and Mac OS Extended (journaled) format. Things worked for 2 weeks.
Then today, the Mac wouldn't recognize one of the Hard Disks, i.e. the disk icon does not appear on the desktop, and the Disk Utility does not see them either.
I thought the problem was one of the disks, so I attached the other disk, and that one doesn't appear on the Desktop or Disk Utility either.
Concurrently -- and I don't know if these issue are related -- I see that the iMac doesn't seem to turn on automatically when I press the on-button. Instead, I have to keep it depressed for a long time before it comes on.

A few hours later, it started working again. No idea why it happened, and no idea why it resolved.

BB Bold - Desktop not recognizing my device

I have not had this problem previously. It just started today. I don't believe that I chanegd any settings, but now my Desktop Manager does not connect to my device. Phone shows charging, so the USB is working. Any help out there?

What version of the desktop manager are you using? have you tried switching USB ports?
If someone helped you give them kudos. Research all info!

Desktop not recognizing any web sites

We just moved to a new apt and our router is working fine with the wireless internet, but the desktop can not find any web sites. it is an active connection since instant messenger is working on that computer. please help?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Is there a way to restore photos from Drop box to my desktop iPhoto in a large batch instead of one at a time? I tried and a zip file was downloaded but won't open. Says file format not recognized.

I see how to do it one at a time with the "download" button in Dropbox but that's so cumbersome for lots of photos.

My iPod is not recognized by my Mac or iTunes... I have done the suggested "reset" and still no luck. I have also turned off Norton ... this hasn't made a difference either... Does anyone have other thoughts/ideas I should try?

USB flash drive not recognized on desktop or disk utility

I see a number of similar threads to this but nothing solves this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I am about to go crazy!
I have 3 USB thumb drives that all worked 2 days ago - now only one does. I have tried all drives in multiple ports and the same result. I have restarted the iMac (2009 Yosemite) a number of times and the same result.
This came about attempting to create bootable USBs with each of these. I was struggling with the process on my mac so took 2 (brand new 16GB PNYs) to a PC created the live boot USBs and they booted fine on the PC (knowing this wouldn't boot my mac). I did however plug them into my mac and they were recognized. I finally found success creating a Ubuntu live boot with my old USB. With that success I wanted to try with one of the new USBs on the mac.
Here is what I did:
1. Using Disk Utility - Reformatted the drive 1 partition MS Dos FAT 32
2. In Terminal unmounted the drive and ran a dd command to copy the linux .img file successfully
3. Box came up saying drive not recognized and selected to ignore (this happened on my old one that still works also)
4. Ejected drive from terminal
5 Restarted mac and attempted to boot from USB without success.
After this the 2 new USBs were no longer recognized in any usb port while the other still is. They do not show on the desktop nor in Disk Utility. I checked them on the PC and they are still both recognized and showing the FAT 32 format.
Help please!

I am running XP SP 2, on a Dell Vostro 1000, Palm OS Garnet v5.4.7 on a Tungsten E2. I have worked though issues relating to synchronization, Outlook 2007, Docs to Go, etc., in the past. Thank you board members!
Once I worked thru all the initial problems, my Tungsten E2 was sync' ing beautifully to my laptop until a few days ago. There have been no changes (I know of) to the configuration, but now I receive "The connection between your device and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." On the laptop I sometimes get "USB device not recognized." I am unclear why I get the PC message sometimes and not others.
I have tried the following: (not necc exactly in this order)
Double checked Hot Sync Mgr settings: Local USB (ver. 6.0.1)
Reset the Palm (multiple times)
Rebooted the laptop (multiple times before and after the Palm resets)

Followed Device Mgr Troubleshooter - went all the way thru with no solution
Tried all four USB ports - the PC's bell-like tone does not sound when I disconnect or reconnect the Plam's cradle like it does when I conn/disconnect other USB devices -I think that is a clue. ...?
Cleaned the Palm's contacts (and cradle's contacts with a old, dry toothbrush)
Read all the posts under "USB device not recognized."
OK, I'm at a loss, can anyone help me? Many thanks in advance!

Using a cradle with the Tungsten E2? Tried bypassing the cradle and just use the hotsync cable? Tried a different computer yet? Somehow, the PC is having problems getting a signal from the device. I assume you have the laptop charger plugged into the laptop during this? Not going through a docking station or port-replicator.
One crazy thing you can try is unplug the charger from your laptop, remove the battery from the laptop and leave it out for like 10mins and put it back in and reboot the laptop. This should not cause side effects but still contact your OEM to make sure that nothing else is needed after leaving the battery out for extended period of time. Keep me posted.

Lacie external HD not appearing on desktop but recognized in disk utility

Hi,
I have a Lacie 1Tb external HD. It worked fine when I first purchased it about 4 months ago but recently when I connect the external to my MacBook, it is not recognized in Finder nor does it appear on the desktop. However, when I open disk utility the external is recognized but I can't verify or repair it and there is no "mount point" associated with this drive. Has anyone encountered and fixed this type of problem.

Device not recognized by Mac Desktop Software

I have tried to sync my Blackberry 8830 World Edition with the latest version of the Mac Blackberry Desktop Software (v. 2.1.3, build 10), but the device is not recognized.
I am working on a MacBook Air running under OS 10.6.8.
I've tried changing USB cables, but this makes no difference.
Some postings advise restarting the computer with the "3" and "2" keys depressed, in order to boot into 32-bit mode, but this hasn't enabled the recognition of the device either.
Thanks in advance for suggestions/advice.

Do you mass storage enabled on the BlackBerry? Also does the BlackBerry show that it is charging? Try removing the battery and place it back in.

I have Firefox installed on both desktop and laptop. Firefox is NOT recognizing my settings (to open with previous tabs, etc) on the desktop only. How do I fix this.

I have opened/closed browser numerous times, after "updating" and resetting my preferences. The settings "match" on laptop and desktop. Laptop works like a charm; desktop not at all.

Since you have encountered the problem at other sites, not just Firefox, I'd bet that it is an Internet Explorer problem, not the web sites. Actually, I am sure it is an IE problem.
Try running Windows Update, perhaps there are some updates for Internet Explorer that might resolve the problem. If you don't know how to run Windows Update, use the Help on your system to look for information on Windows Update.
If that does not help, use Google to search for information on IE9 locking up when downloading.
