Desktop on TV is Extended desktop after wake in sleepmode(Closed Clamshell)

I use my 13" MBP in closed Clam Shell mode nearly all the time. I have it connected to my Sony 40" HDTV using the Griffin adapter and it works great most of the time.
BUT sometimes when it comes off sleep mode. All my desktop icons are on the extended desktop (TV) and the dock is on the main screen (Closed Laptop Screen)
So I have to Open up laptop. Make Laptop go to sleep. Close Laptop to closed clam shell again then everything is good on TV again.
Not sure why this is happening. Probably 1 in 10 sleeps it does this.
Any Ideas anyone.......

Yes it's perfectly safe and designed to be used that way, 90% of the time this one's used in a similar configuration. The only time the fans come on 100% is when I watch Flash-based items from YouTube or similar. I've never run it for any extended length of time with the fans at maximum I must admit but as long as the air flow is good there shouldn't be any problem.

ITunes breaks Airplay extend desktop via Apple TV

Hi there, using my MPBr 15in with Yosemite installed and an Apple TV.
I have been watching photoshop tutorials in an iTunes playlist via extended desktop (Video played on extended desktop on TV, I'm following along with Photoshop on my mac).
I had put my mac on charge and did some things for a while, came back and went to continue my tutorials. But for some unknown reason when I select play in iTunes, instead of just playing on the extended desktop like it was earlier, iTunes quits the extended mode, 'sends' the video to the Apple TV which is a bit of a bumpier process then I'd like. Not to mention it needs to 'buffer' the video each time the next one is played. The worst issue is that the video is zoomed in too far, meaning I cannot see the photoshop tools or the menus along the top and no way to change it (it seems at least). I could forgo the Airplay streaming if it didn't have that issue.
No Apple account is signed in to the Apple TV.
I have tried changing a couple settings in Apple TV (including overscan settings on/off) to no avail. Also changed iTunes setting of Airplay that appears next to the volume slider. No matter what I try when I play the video, extended desktop mode turns off and iTunes streams just the video to Apple TV, also meaning I have to completely disconnect from Apple TV and reconnect again.
So my question is, how do I force iTunes to not use Airplay streaming when I have specifically configured the computer to extend the desktop? I want to extend the desktop!! Using the multiple desktop feature is useful!
Why does it assume I want to stream it independently rather than keep the second desktop?
Why has it done it now, instead of before? I never pressed anything that I know of. It just decided to do it.
If for whatever reason there is no way to turn this auto configuration off, how do I stream the video so it does not cut off the edges?

our forms application : forms version 10.1.2.0 on windows & Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 on sun solaris
Recently some of our users got a second screen (extended desktop) installed , after this change in setup there is a considerable increase in the number of times the application hangs => up to 5 times a day (only the forms application has this problem, other applications still work fine). The forms application runs on the first window (main window) , the secondary screen is used for other application (spreadsheet , mail , ... ).
My question, are there people who work with a forms appliction on a extended desktop who noticed the same effect ? If so, have they been able to resolve this problem ?

There were known issues with Forms 10.1.2.0.2 and older when used with dual monitors. The known issues were corrected in 10.1.2.3 and newer. It is also recommended that you use a newer Sun JRE on the client. For example 1.6.0_13 or newer. These new JRE versions should only be used if you are on 10.1.2.3 or newer. Older Forms versions may not work correctly with these newer releases.

Setting as extended desktop won't take after a reboot

sorry to post in this forum, but i couldn't create a new topic in the bootcamp forum. on to my problem. i use an apple cinema display with my macbook. when i boot to mac os, the cinema display acts as intended, as an extended desktop. however, when i boot to windows, the external monitor is always reset to mirror the monitor on the mac book, even after i set it in the windows control panel to extend. the next time i boot to windows, it has reset agian. it was not always this way, however. there are to things i can think of that may have contributed to this, but i'm only speculating. i recently upgraded to 10.5.7 from 10.5.6. the other thing was that i also update the boot camp software on windows to version 2.1. could either of these be the cause?

Extended desktop with 2 LEDTVs and VGA?

Hi everyone,
I really need some help here.
I have 2 40" Samsung LEDTVs with the model UA40D5003BRXXM. They are docked on the wall side by side. Basically i want to achieve extended desktop (not mirroring) for my mac mini (if can). Assume I open a browser 1 on 1st LEDTV, i can drag that browser to the 2nd LEDTV. So i can see more stuff at 1 time.
However I am not using HDMI or DVI as the cables are too short. Based on my contractors, HDMI cable is max 2 meters. So we got them to work on VGA cables. The mac mini and the LEDTVs are quite far away. The cables are already connected below the flooring and hacked into the wall.
So few questions:-
a) how can i connect 2 VGA cables to my mac mini?
b) can I achieve dual LEDTVs for extended desktop here?
If i can't find a way to do it, then i will have to buy non Mac here i prefer mac if can.

I have never personally used one of these DisplayLink adapters myself. According to their Mac software download page, you can have up to 4 of them on a single Mac. See http://www.displaylink.com/support/mac_downloads.php
I could not find specific mention of whether it supports using them as an extended desktop rather than mirroring, but as they support up to four screens (on a Mac) and mirroring only applies to using two, one can deduce this means extended desktop is supported.
Upate: Ok, the user guide does confirm extended desktop support is included, as well as mirroring.
Note: USB does not have enough bandwidth to drive multiple hi-res screens at the same time, DisplayLink gets round this by using the computers GPU to compress the data before sending it to the DisplayLink interface. They do say it supports playing movies. However I personally would expect that you may see some peformance hit and that the low end Mac mini with just an Intel GPU might struggle.
I could not find system requirements for Mac use other than that it currently is not Lion compatible - just spotted a beta version for Lion so you could use it.
If your VGA cable is not solidly embedded in plaster etc. i.e. is reasonably loose, you could consider (after testing the Cat5 HDMI devices) using the VGA cable to pull the new cable through.

Dual displays ("extended desktop") on the iBook

This is in response to a previous query that was strangely archived despite the original poster receiving no definitive answer.
The iBook G4 (and various other iBooks) does not support "spanning" dual displays (I believe Apple calls this feature "extended desktop") with Leopard. Evidence of this is the missing "Arrangement" tab in the Display system preference pane.
The Tiger version of Spanning Screen Doctor (http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html) does, indeed, work correctly on an iBook G4 running 10.5.4. After rebooting, the "Arrangement" tab will now appear in the Display pane.
Hopefully this saves some iBook users some time and effort in resolving this issue.

I thought the LCD TV was a good idea since it has all the input for all my DVD player, TV box?, Nintendo, and the VHS?, but I was told that LCD TV might not be too compatible for use with a computer.
How do I put all my stuff on a Apple 23" LCD display I only can find adapters that can only take one peripheral at a time, and I don't want to re plug a TV box each time I want to watch TV. It looks like I need a box for use with Apple display with 3~4 input and S video, and HDMI input for the HD stuff?

Extended desktop mode with external display

I use my Macbook with an external display. Sometimes I need to use extended desktop mode and sometimes I don't need the extra desktop space and prefer to work only with my external display. My needs change as I work throughout the day and I'm getting tired of having to close the Macbook to put it to sleep and then wake it up without opening the lid to just have one display (the external one).
I'm wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to put the Macbook built-in display to sleep while continuing to work with the external display, without having to put the Macbook to sleep first. I'm thinking that there's got to be a way to do this (maybe there's a piece of software out there or some other work around?).

Thanks for your suggestion. That's actually a workaround I've used. The only problem is, the display isn't really put to sleep. The result: I still get an extended desktop and occasionally I "lose" my pointer. A bit annoying, but thus far the only solution I've come up with.

Presentation plays in mirror mode but not extended desktop

My presentation plays in mirror mode flawlessly.
But when played in extended desktop has only one life. After 'escaping' out of a playing slideshow, I am then unable to play the slideshow again in extended desktop and must either quit out of Keynote or switch to mirror mode.
My computer is connected with a Sanyo PLC-XU74 data projector at our church. The problem also exists when I test it connected to my Panasonic LCD TV at home.
The problem is not specific to any particular file.
My older version of Keynote 3.0.0 works without this issue on both secondary displays (church & home) but will not play the file created in Keynote 09 (error message 'Keynote cannot open the file .... because it is damaged.')
My wife's MacBook plays the same files without issue in extended desktop mode on the same secondary displays.
Files created in her identical version of Keynote 09 (5.0.1) misbehave when I attempt to play them on my MacBook Pro - just a slightly different error message ... ('Keynote cannot play your slideshow because an error occurred.' )
Again the file will play initially, but when I exit out of the playing presentation there is no way to resurrect it without quitting and restarting the application.
My head is spinning ... should I reinstall iWork 09?

Seems that the original iteration of Keynote 09 did not like the hardware in my fancy new MacBook Pro. Whereas it was quite content with my wife's older MacBook. It would appear this bug is fixed ...
(Should have done this first - downloaded software update ... that's what you get for being stingy, or living in a remote part of Australia with a dribble of an excuse for broadband internet via satellite!!)

How are you running this program? Is there a top level vi which calls the ones you posted? The Display image on screen.vi will display two images in succession, but according to the note on the block diagram the second image is blank. It seems as though this would intentionally create a flicker.
The sequence structure is unnecessary. Dataflow will determine the order of execution. The only exception is the time delay in the third frame. Since it has no data dependency, a single frame sequence may be useful to assure that the delay occurs before the picture is updated. A simple state machine might be a more versatile architecture for what you may be trying to do.
It is not necessary to write the FR.PanelBounds property immediately after reading it, nor is it necessary to read it a second time in the second frame. Just wire from the first read.

Can't set up extended desktop in Mavericks

I can't seem to join my two displays (MacBook Air display and external Cinema display) into a single extended desktop. Worked fine in Mountain Lion.
Does anybody have a solution? The onscreen help is no help.

OK ... after logging out and back in, the fix above from captfred worked. That fixed my main problem, in that I can now run Citrix Receiver across both monitors.
New problem ... I think. With the settings changed, when I go to fullscreen mode in an app (such as Safari), it fills up one monitor and the other goes blank, just like they did in Mountain Lion. Anybody else seeing this?
The new problem isn't a huge deal, but I can't believe that Apple didn't make the new fullscreen behavior in Mavericks work regardless of whether a space covers one or two monitors.

About the extended desktop on the Intel iMac?

Hi I was looking into getting the 17" Intel iMac, but after looking at the 20" G5 iMac, I think I want the 20" Intel iMac. I wanted to know what size external display can you use with the 17" & 20" Intel iMac as a extended desktop? I was told the reason that I only can use up to 20" external display with my 12" PowerBook was the graphics card in it. I think you can get 128 MB and 256 MB with a Intel iMac? what size display can I use with this type of card?
I want to put a 23" or a 26" LCD TV on the 20" Intel iMac if you can? Hoping to use a 26", but 23" is OK too.

Extended Desktop (Dual Monitors) on 13'' Macbook?

You will be able to run in any one of three different modes, whichever is to your liking:
- Extended Desktop mode where both screens are active and the TV will be an extension of the screen on the MB.
- Mirror mode where both screens are active but run at the same resolution and have the same image on both.
- TV only mode where only the TVs screen is used and the lid on the MB is closed. For this mode you need to have the MB plugged into its AC adapter and you need to wake it using a mouse or some other USB or Bluetooth peripheral.

ITunes visualizer and movie on extended desktop

I run iTunes 9 for my live show. I have a projector on stage set up as an extended desktop. I can play a video or visualizer on the screen and when it ends it displays my logo that I have on the desktop. I need to upgrade iTunes for my IPad and iPod but I can't loose this functionality.
Version 9 procedure:
Double click on movies tab creating a new iTunes window.
Drag iTunes main window to extended desktop
Minimize iTunes main window to dock
Click on movie on main screen. Movie plays on extended desktop.
Movie ends and desktop pic is displayed.
Same procedure woks on visualizer. It plays full screen on extended desktop then displays desktop pic when turned off.
With latest version of iTunes the iTunes main window pops out of the dock and is displayed on extended desktop after movie or visualizer ends.
Any way to stop this from happening? I can't have the audience see the iTunes window!

If it shows as 'downloaded' in the Purchased tabs in the iBooks app then it should show on the bookshelf in the app. If you select the My Books tab in the app (bottom left) and then tap the 'collection' name at the top middle of the bookshelf and select the 'All' collection does it then show on the bookshelf ?

Firefox behaves poorly on extended desktop screen

After version 5.x, when I put FF on my extended desktop, the browser behaves poorly:
I cannot use any kind of lists or the address bar. The best way to describe the problem is that the lookup/search in that field causes the field to appear then disappear.
It even occurs for the menu and drop-down lists. It makes it almost impossible to select anything. I have to almost exclusively use the browser on my main monitor. This truly impedes my ability to do work. (I just found it happens with the spell check pop-up). Basically it happens with any type of list.
And NO I did not apply ANY upgrades to the monitor drivers. However, I did apply Windows upgrades but I cannot tell you which is the fox and which is the hen house, and who stole the eggs!
I just want it to work again! And yes, I have applied new FF updates and it has not solved the problem.
Please ask questions at an intermediate-advanced level of knowledge because I do have more than a basic understanding so I have probably already tried something but forget to mention it.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
Your above posted system details show multiple Java Console extensions.<br />
You can uninstall and remove Java Console extensions, you do not need them to run Java applets.
